Politics / FG To Build Housing Estates Across The Country by harbyj1(m): 3:12pm On Apr 29, 2016
The federal government said it had designed mass housing estates which would be built in the six geo-political zones in the country, adding that the project would commence as soon as the 2016 budget was passed.

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, who disclosed this at the 9th Architects Colloquium conference in Abuja, explained that the designs of the estates took cognizance of the different environmental factors of each region.

The minister, who was represented by Mr. Sani Gidado, stated that in the past, mass housing estates were built uniformly without consideration for the peculiarity of the environment and the location of the project.

He said for over 16 years, the government had stopped financing housing projects directly, but the present government has reversed the trend and is bent on financing mass housing across the six geo-political zones.

Fashola said, “Over the last 16 years, the government has deliberately stopped financing housing projects, but that has been found to have created problems, especially for the low and medium income groups. For that reason, the present government intends to provide adequate funding for provision of houses projects directly. That is not to say the private-public partnership would be discouraged, no.”

The President, Architects Registration Council of Nigeria, Umaru Aliyu, called on the Federal Government to stop deploying architects on national service in secondary and primary schools, saying this was affecting the years of pupillage the young professionals were supposed to have in order to sit for the professional competency examination.

Jokes Etc / Hilarious: 7 Names You Don't Want To Give Your Child In Nigeria by harbyj1(m): 8:46pm On Apr 18, 2016
Firstly, this is Nigeria and there is the need to carefully review the kind of names we give our children. We are a nation with a deep rooted belief for culture and value. While many people prefer to give their children foreign names, many people do not want to lose touch with the culture we have tried to preserve for years.

That being said, there are some indigenous names you dare not name your child in this present age and day. Not only are these names bastardized, they have become a subject of ridicule amongst people. Some names in Nigeria depict stupidity and go on to portray the bearers of such names as people who are not smart and are naturally silly.

It should be known that the names you give a child go a long way in that child’s future. A child named after wealth could become immensely rich people would start to marvel at his or her success. Give a child a name that means bitterness and you would be surprised to see that child goes through trials and tribulations all through his life.

Without wasting much time, check out some of the names you may not want to name a child in Nigeria:

1. Akpos
Please if your wife is expecting a child, do not include Akpos when you are compiling names to give that child. Akpos have become the joke of the century in Nigeria and is being used wildly in the entertainment world.
People who bear this name are so dumb they could hardly make sentences that are filled with good points. This character may stick to your unborn child as he may never be taken serious.

2. Sule
This name has Islamic background. Many Nigerians now use it when they want to mock people. A person being called Sule may not necessarily have that as his original name but then it means the person is not smart or intelligent.

Calling a person that is aimed at making him or her know he is acting silly or actually silly. If you go on naming your child that, don’t say we did not warn you.

3. Alice
This is the name most maids bear in Nigeria. We are sorry if that is your name but then, we are sure you would not want to name your child that too. Moreover, the name is becoming archaic so why bother naming your daughter that? Or do you want your child to become somebody’s maid in the nearest future?

4. Ekaette
This is a Calabar name and if you are familiar with people from this part of Nigeria, you would know they are wonderful cooks. There is really no problem giving your daughter this name if you have dreams of her becoming a cook.

Most of the girls portrayed as Ekaette are not just good in the kitchen; they have an added advantage when it comes to bedroom skills if you know what we mean.

5. Muri
This is a bit sad as we have a hero with the name Muritala. Yes we know people are trying to make the name sound more ‘Behind’ by coming up with ‘funkified’ versions of it. But forget that, Muri would always be Muri in Nigeria. And you definitely do not want to be called that or make an innocent child go through the agony of being mocked.

6. Dejo
This is a popular character in the Yoruba film industry but you do not want to have a child named that. Like all the other names mentioned here, this name has a meaning and it is rather unfortunate that the beauty of this name is being replaced with chronic stupidity.
Call your son Dejo and watch people add ‘Tufulu’ as the suffix.

7. Okoro
This is an Igbo name but people generally believe that a person called this has to be bald or someone with receding hairline. Why do you want your child a name like that? But then, you could ignore this and wake up to see your hairy child bald. Please do not go challenge your mother in-law abeg oh!

Politics / China Loan: APC Told The U.S Not To Sell Arms To Jonathan - Fayose Reveals by harbyj1(m): 6:12pm On Apr 18, 2016
Special assistant to the Ekiti state governor on public communications and new media, Lere Olayinka has described the All Progressives Congress (APC) national chairman, Chief Odigie Oyegun, deputy national chairman, Chief Segun Oni and others’ criticisms of governor Ayodele Fayose’s letter to the Chinese government on the $2 billion loan sought by the federal government as brazen display of political hypocrisy.

He described President Buhari’s non-signing of any direct loan agreement with the Chinese government during his visit as a vindication of the governor’s position, maintaining that:

“what Nigeria needs is the collaboration of the Government of China in the area of technology transfer, rather than granting loan that will be mismanaged under the guise of building infrastructure.”

In a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Monday, the governor’s spokesperson said: “people like Oyegun, Oni and Prof Itse Sagay lack moral rights to complain even if President Mohammadu Buhari is called whatever names because they never complained when as a sitting president, Dr Goodluck Jonathan was called unprintable names by APC stalwarts and leaders.”

Olayinka, who said governor Fayose only exercised his rights as a Nigerian, asked: “where were the likes of Oyegun, Oni, Prof Itse Sagay and others when APC promoted crude politics and anti-Nigeria posturing to an unprecedented level when Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was in power?”

He said: “It is on record that APC wrote to the United States of America not to sell arms to Nigeria, reported the country to the European Union, United Nations and went to the bizarre extent of reporting the then Chief of Army Staff, Azubuike Ihejirika, to the International Criminal Court (ICC), not for committing the kind of genocide committed against the Shiite Muslims in Zaria and Agatus in Benue, but for killing Boko Haram insurgents.

“On one occasion, a certain APC stalwart insinuated that Jonathan’s visit to Chad was to plan further attacks on the North, tweeting that; ‘Boko Haram: Jonathan visits Chadian President Idris Deby for the second time in two months, to plan further attacks?’

“It is also on record that instead of lending his voice to the federal government efforts to dislodge Boko Haram insurgents, President Buhari opted to describe the clampdown on Boko Haram as injustice against the North. He went on to accuse the government of killing and destroying houses of Boko Haram insurgents while the Niger Delta militants were given special treatment by the government.

“Even when Oni was Ekiti State Governor as a PDP member, Action Congress (AC) as APC was then, wrote against his government move to obtain a N5 billion loan. Isn’t it then funny that because he is now in APC, the same Oni is now against Governor Fayose doing the same thing done against him by the APC elements in Ekiti State?

“Isn’t it also funny that in Oyegun, Oni, Sagay, others political dictionary of hypocrisy, it was right for APC stalwart to have reported the federal government to ICC but wrong for Fayose to have written to the Chinese government on the federal government’s plan to mortgage the future of Nigeria and its people?”

The governor’s spokesperson said since the federal government claimed it has recovered and still recovering trillions of Naira allegedly looted from the treasury, there was no need to borrow money from anywhere to finance the 2016 Budget.

“With the $200 billion they claimed is coming from Dubai, $700 million raw cash they said was found in Diezani Alison Madueke’s house, N3 trillion said to have been saved from the Treasury Single Account (TSA) and N4.5 trillion the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) said it will generate this year, what then is the rationale behind the federal government seeking any loan?

Celebrities / Iyanya Pictured In A Romantic Position With A Strange Woman (photo) by harbyj1(m): 5:39pm On Apr 18, 2016
Finally, Iyanya seems ready to take his love life public again as he has just shared a photo of himself snuggling up to a mystery woman. "No days off," he captioned their cute photo, leaving fans guessing who the lady is.

The rumour of a breakup between Iyanya and Freda Francis started in January after fans found all the typical signs that point to the end of a relationship: he deleted all their photos, except for a selfie of Ubi Franklin and Lilian Esoro which Freda photobombed, and he unfollowed her on the photo sharing platform.

For Ms Francis, she still held onto their photos, but following the backlash from fans, she left the platform only to return weeks later saying that she went to find sanity.

Since then, the former couple have not been seen hanging out like they used to. Iyanya has also kept a low profile until hours ago when he shared the first photo of himself and a new woman.

Now, we can't wait to find out who the new woman is.

Crime / Shock As Police Officers And Others Are Arrested For 'armed Robbery' In Lagos by harbyj1(m): 5:15pm On Apr 18, 2016
The Police in Lagos have arrested some of its personnel including one Sergeant Victor Omorokai, who allegedly hijacked a 20 feet container at the weekend in Ogun State.

Also arrested were three civilians, including a supposed buyer of the container laden with auto spare-parts. It was gathered that the policemen numbering four, all attached to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Panti-Yaba, on Saturday night blocked the container with their Sienna car.

According to The Nation, they pretended to be officers on duty and flanked the heavy duty vehicle down. As soon as the driver stopped, they were said to have pointed a gun at him and his conductor, ordering them out of the trailer.

The suspects were said to have detoured the container to Abbatoir, where they contacted a prospective buyer who came and inspected the goods but did not buy.

Unknown to the suspects, the trailer conveying the container had a car tracking device and was being monitored by its owners.

It was learnt that a distress call was made to the police informing the agency about the incident and notifying it that the trailer had a tracking device.

“The police then started monitoring their location as they were moving and tracked them to Agege. Three police units made of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Safer Highways and the Okokomaiko Police Division were deployed.

“The teams blocked the various entry and exit points. The suspects contacted another buyer and was moving towards Okokomaiko when the police stopped the container.

“At first, they pretended they were policemen who arrested the truck but when they saw that they were in trouble they started shooting. While three of them managed to escape, Sergeant Victor Omorokai was arrested. Three civilians have also been arrested in connection with the crime,” said a police source.

The Nation reports that an Inspector was among the fleeing suspects and that the case was transferred to SARS for discreet investigation.

Confirming the arrest, the state command’s spokesperson, Dolapo Badmos said: “They (suspects) were trailed to Okokomaiko where they were arrested. The case is still under discreet investigation.”

Politics / Senator Stoned For Supporting Saraki, Leaves Hat And Slippers Behind In Escape by harbyj1(m): 5:04pm On Apr 18, 2016
A Senator, Isah Misau, who represents Bauchi Central district, came under attack by irate youth on Saturday in Ningi, part of his constituency, two persons who claimed to have witnessed the incident told PREMIUM TIMES.

The two sources said Mr. Misau was in Ningi for a social function when he came under attack. It was at the social function that the Senator was pelted with stones and bottles, the witnesses said.

One of them, Isa Sa’ad said Mr. Misau was attacked because of his support for the embattled Senate President, Bukola Saraki, who is under public pressure to resign because of his ongoing corruption trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

Mr. Sa’ad also said Ningi youth considered the Senate President as opposing President Muhammadu Buhari and that “anybody supporting Saraki is anti-Buhari”.

“You are aware Isah Hammah Misau is supporting Saraki who is corrupt and against the change agenda of President Buhari,” Mr. Misau said.

“And you see, Misau was sent to the Senate because we wanted him to support Buhari. But after getting to the Senate, he has teamed up with other people to support Saraki. Anybody supporting Saraki is anti-Buhari.

“That’s why people were throwing stones and bottles at him. He brought four cars but left with the smallest because others were damaged.

“He left his cap and shoe while trying to escape.”

“I was in Ningi but not attacked – Senator Misau.

This report was delayed for 24 hours as we were unable to get through to Mr. Misau for his reaction.

A correspondent was able to talk to him eventually Monday morning. He said it was true that he was in Ningi “as part of my constituency tour” on Saturday.

Besides political reaaon, he said he was in Ningi to condole with one Captain Ningi who is bereaved.

He, however, said he was not attacked.

“You know when we go like that, we give people money,” the senator said. “So it may be that the violence started after I left when they were trying to share money.

“But there is nothing like that (that he was attacked). I am not aware myself. I read the report online too.”

See photos of his cap and a pair of slippers he allegedly left behind during the attack:
