The contractor behind the bribery videos involving Governor Ganduje says he is ready to appear before the panel probing the matter - However, in a letter to the panel, he said certain conditions would have to be fulfilled before he can appear - He further demanded that the publisher of the Daily Nigerian, Jaafar Jaafar, and one Aminu Daurawa also be present at the panel’s hearing The contractor behind the videos showing Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano state allegedly receiving bribes says he is ready to testify before the state House of Assembly panel investigating the matter. The contractor, in a letter sent to the chairman of the investigative panel via his lawyer, Saeed Twada, stated that he would appreciate if Ganduje also appeared at the panel and that his allegations against the governor were “strictly personal”, The Cable reports. Legit.ng gathers that the unidentified contractor, however, said certain conditions listed in the letter would have to be fulfilled before he can appear before the panel. One of the conditions he listed is that the video clips be submitted to two experts for forensic analysis. He further stated that one of the experts must be a serving officer of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the other an expatriate, while their bills would be paid by the state. The letter read: “That a Certified True Copy of the report(s) prepared by the experts shall be made available to our client prior to his appearance. “That our client has undertaken to surrender to the experts, the device used in capturing all the events in the video clips submitted and others yet to be submitted for discreet analysis and scrutiny. “That all the proposed questions to be asked by the panel in the anticipated session shall not be more than 10 and shall be forwarded to our client in advance. “That the sitting be restricted to limited persons and that our client should be allowed to wear a mask, bear a fictitious name and receive protection from authorities for himself, family and business.” He further demanded that the publisher of the Daily Nigerian, Jaafar Jaafar, and one Aminu Daurawa also be present at the panel’s hearing. The National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), a parastatal of the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture, will on Saturday October 20 commence in the Adamawa State capital, Yola, a weekend edition of its Nigerian Indigenous Language Programme (NILP). Beneficiaries at the Yola Zone, with a lecture hall located at the Ahmadu Ribadu Square in Jimeta, are to be taught Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba and Fulfude every Saturday and Sunday from the starting date to December 15th, 2018, according to a poster announcing the programme. The Zonal Coordinator of the programme and Director of NICO, Yola, Mr Adeniyi Oladosu who shed further light on the programme, said registration for it would be this Friday October 19 while lessons will start on Saturday. “The schedule is Saturday, running between 10 am and 2 pm and on Sunday after church service, from 1pm to 5pm,” Oladosu said, adding that the four languages to be taught: Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba, and Fulfude would take one hour each every lesson day. He added that by the end of the programme in December, participants would be expected to be familiar with basic terms in each of the languages, such as terms to do with greetings, buying things in the market, naming common objects, as well as being able generally to weave some words together in comprehensible statements. Yola, home to the Northeast Zonal headquarters of NICO, is the only centre for the weekend indigenous language teaching programme in the Northeast. NICO which has ‘Harnessing Culture for National Development’ as its motto, is, from established indications, organizing the language teaching programme in furtherance of its mission which reads, “To consistently spearhead the provision of innovative training, research and documentation of our cultural heritage and assets (including indigenous languages), aimed at making culture the vector for national development.”

Boko Haram hunters burn another sect member in Maiduguri Volunteer Vigilance Youths Group (VVYG) otherwise known as ‘Civilian JTF’ on Thursday arrested and set ablaze an alleged notorious Boko Haram sect member at Gwange ward in Maiduguri, Borno State capital, residents and witnesses said. This is the second time the youths would burn a suspected member of the Boko Haram in less than a week. Some of the vigilante members who took part in the burning said the suspect had once killed and burned a soldier in the area sometime last year. The claim could not be verified from the spokesman of the Joint Task Force, JTF, Lt Col Sagir Musa but a security source confirmed that the youths had burnt the suspect. “This (the action of the vigilantes) is a serious source of concern to us…jungle justice is a crime in itself and we want parents to caution their wards against it,” the source said. Weekly Trust gathered that the suspected Boko Haram member had led insurgents in the killing of many people and perpetrated “many atrocities” at Gwange Sabon Layi. “The actions of the suspect who fled to the forest last December prompted soldiers to sack residents from the area,” a resident of Gwange said. One of the vigilantes also corroborated. “Only Allah knows how eager we were to catch that guy (burnt suspect) alive. As a result of his bad deeds, soldiers sacked and closed our area completely. But we were then told that the guy had escaped into the forest. Some even believed that he has been killed since. We were on operations when we saw him. “On seeing him, all the youths shouted ‘here he is’. Then everyone of us was jubilating, seeing our ‘wanted guy’. “So, we instantly reminded him of what he did last year, but to our surprise, he started begging us to pardon him. As he was crying, we tied him up, poured fuel on his body and set him on fire. No pity for Boko Haram sect members at all now. Thousands have been displaced and hundreds were killed because of his bad deeds,” the vigilante said. |
