Sports / Ghana, Cameroun Accuse Equatorial Guinea Of Playing Men At Africa Women's Championship! by Helives: 5:15pm On Nov 12, 2010
A GENDER cheating row is currently brewing against Equatorial Guinea, which both Ghana and Cameroun have claimed is fielding men in the ongoing African Women’s Championship (AWC) in South Africa.

Two Black Queens’ players, Diana Ankomah and captain Florence Okoe, claim that Guinea used three men during their final Group B game on Monday. Cameroun has also filed an official complaint against Guinea for similar age and gender claims.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is refusing to comment on the issue, as this is the second consecutive tourney at which the Guineans have been accused of gender cheating. Salimata Simpore, Bilguisa Simpore and team captain Genoveva Ayonmang were in 2008 suspected to be boys.

Indeed, against Ghana, both Simpore and Ayonmang were looking too strong for their opponents, with the latter’s goal for her team’s second of the game a shot any male goalkeeper could have found difficult stopping. Black Queens’ captain, Okoe, said no one would make her yield in her belief that Simpore was “a boy playing in a girls’ game.”

She said: “It is not as if we are throwing sour grapes just because we have lost. Rather, this is the fact and it is up to the organisers to do something about this. It is not good for African women football.”

Ankomah also said that despite their disappointing finish, they were only feeling unhappy with the gender of the opposition. She echoed to NAN the claim that at least two of Equatorial Guinea’s players were not girls, saying: “To lose a football game is not something we don’t know how to take, that is now normal for us as footballers.
“But losing to unequal opposition like in this case of Equatorial Guinea is painful. You only need to have physical contact with them to know this, and we can tell from what happened most times during the match.”

The allegation had reverberated during the last edition of the competition as host, Equatorial Guinea, romped to the title, with Nigeria one of the two countries to raise a complaint then. The competition organiser, the Confederation of African Football (CAF), had, however, waved the allegation then, saying its investigation revealed that the “boys” were really girls.

Efforts to get CAF to comment on the allegation yielded no fruit, as the Match Commissioner, Souaadatou Kalkaba, told NAN that she was not competent to speak on the issue. Hours after their exit from the ongoing tourney in South Africa, the Black Queens are feeling that their loss in their final match was not “ordinary.”

Ghana lost 1-3 to Guinea on Monday evening at Daveyton’s Sinaba Stadium in Johannesburg to crash out of the continental event. The Ghanaians had needed a win to progress from Group B to the semi-finals, but the second match day’s 1-2 loss to Cameroun put them in a difficult position.
Religion / Re: Top 10 Reasons Why Jesus Christ Is Not God by Helives: 11:20am On Oct 29, 2010
Jo 2:18 Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.
1Jo 2:19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would [no doubt] have continued with us: but [they went out], that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.
1Jo 2:20 But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.
1Jo 2:21 I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth.
1Jo 2:22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.
1Jo 2:23 Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: [(but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also].
1Jo 2:24 Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.
1Jo 2:25 And this is the promise that he hath promised us, [even] eternal life.
1Jo 2:26 These [things] have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you.
1Jo 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
1Jo 2:28 And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.
1Jo 2:29 If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.
Religion / Why I Took 65-year Old Wife, By Kumuyi by Helives: 11:23am On Oct 28, 2010
General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi took a new wife last week in London. When the news broke, it sparked mixed reactions. While some felt it was in order, not a few wondered why the 71-year old cleric needed a new wife. The church has opened up on the turn of event, reports Assistant Editor (News) OLUKOREDE YISHAU

Dressed in a modest suit, Pastor William Kumuyi and Esther Blaize , clad in a pink and purple skirt suit, exchanged the marriage vow last Wednesday. Guests were later ushered into the Crowne Plaza Hotel, London for a reception ceremony. And just like that, the General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry got married for the second time. Two days ago, key leaders of the church across the country, who were not privileged to attend the modest ceremony, were made to watch the video of the proceedings.

Pastor Kumuyi lost his first wife, Biodun on April 11 last year. He took the news with calm. He even went on to handle the convention and shocked many by preaching at the funeral of his late wife.

At the time of her death, Kumuyi was 70 years old. When asked last year if he was going to take a new wife, he said it was too early to think of that. With his age, not a few also thought he might just stay unmarried for the rest of his life.

A statement by the church yesterday said Kumuyi’s decision to remarry was not entirely his. The statement endorsed on his behalf by the church’s Secretary, Pastor L Nnadozie said his marriage to Esther sparked joy and spontaneous happiness among members of the church.

The statement reads: “Pastor Kumuyi had lost his wife, Biodun in April last year. The death of the woman affectionately called ‘mummy’ or ‘mama’ by members of the church, became a cause for concern for leaders in the church as she was almost inseparable from her husband. The church leaders were so concerned that the pastor must not remain lonely, that they led a delegation to encourage him to begin praying to God to give him another wife. The leaders also began praying for their pastor to get another partner. Although initially reluctant, Pastor Kumuyi later prayed and testified to the leaders that God had answered their prayers. This is what culminated in the marriage ceremony in London.”

The statement revealed that the new wife, whose other names are Folashade Aduke, is the National and International Woman Co-odinator of the church. She is 65. And wait for this: she was never married, because, according to Nnadozie, she committed her life to the Lord.

Religion / Obasanjo Donates Chapel by Helives: 2:35pm On Oct 26, 2010
Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has redeemed his pledge to God by building a church which will be commissioned on Sunday in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.

Mr Obasanjo vowed to build a chapel while in prisons in Yola, the Adamawa state capital, under late Sani Abacha who was the head of state then.

Addressing a press conference yesterday in preparatory for the dedication, Victor Durodola, the chairman Board of Trustees of the church, Chapel of Christ The Glorious King, lauded the former president's role in building the chapel.

The chapel, located inside the premises of the Presidential Library in Abeokuta, was solely funded by former Mr Obasanjo. "It is part fulfilment of his pact with God when he was in prisons in Yola."

Mr Durodola said that Mr Obasanjo is a Sunday School teacher in the chapel built for interdenominational worship, adding that, "it has no restrictions, and is open to all Christians irrespective of their affiliation."

"Its vision and mission is to save humanity by promoting the kingdom of God on earth through the belief in, and acceptance of Jesus Christ, the glorious King, as the Saviour and Redeemer of mankind."

Mr Durodola said the chapel can conveniently seat 1,000 worshippers and is equipped with facilities such as children chapel (which will be used as Crèche on weekdays), a baptistery, modern electronic church bell, organ, wooden pews, altar and glass pulpit, vestry, conference room, and offices for the chaplain and staff.
