A police officer near the scene, who did not give his name, said there were two survivors, including a child, but could not say how many people were on board or give further details. Travel / Breaking News !! 224 Perish In Russian Airline Plane Crash In Egypt by henryc4: 11:19am On Oct 31, 2015 |
A Russian plane carrying more than 200 passengers from the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh has crashed in central Sinai with all on board feared dead. The jet, operated by the Russian company Kogalymavia and branded as Metrojet, was “completely destroyed with all on board likely to have died”, a security officer from the search and rescue team said. Destined for St Petersburg, the flight was carrying 224 people, including 17 children and seven crew members. Most of those onboard were Russian, sources in Moscow said. The crash site was found on Saturday morning in southern Arish, a mountainous area of central Sinai, but poor weather conditions were making it difficult for rescue crews to reach the scene, the security officer said. Northern Sinai is home to groups of Islamist militants, many affiliated to Islamic State, but there were no indications the plane was shot down, Egyptian security sources told Reuters. A statement from the Egyptian prime minister’s office said Sherif Ismail had formed a cabinet-level crisis committee to deal with the crash, which was believed to have been caused by a mechanical failure. The plane, which had a tail number of EI-ETJ, lost contact 23 minutes after takeoff while flying at more than 30,000 ft above sea level, according to the plane tracker website Flight Radar. It had begun to make a steep descent at a rate of 6,000 feet per minute shortly before communications were lost. Russia’s aviation authority, Rosaviatsiya, said flight 7K9268 had left at 03:51 GMT and was due into St Petersburg’s Pulkovo airport at 12:10, it told TASS news agency. The plane had failed to make scheduled contact with Cyprus air traffic control and disappeared from the radar. The Rosaviatsiya spokesman Sergey Izvolsky said: “According to preliminary reports, the Airbus A320 belonging to Kagalymavia, en route from Sharm el-Sheikh to St Petersburg has taken off at 6.51am Moscow time. “At 7.14am it failed to contact Larnaca [in Cyprus] and disappeared from radars. The plane carried 212 passengers and seven crew members.” The Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh is a popular destination for Russian tourists. REACHING OUT TO YOU VIA http://www.gistrendy.com/ |

Romance / 5 Things Every Woman Should Do Before Going To Bed by henryc4: 1:11pm On Feb 15, 2015 |
Nighttime makes the perfect time to engage in beauty routines as we're protected from the elements making products all the more effective. After a long day out and about, nothing beats returning home to a hot meal and a nice, warm bed. But before embarking on the also compulsory 8 hours of beauty sleep, its important that we replenish nutrients which the skin and body would have lost during the course of the day. As a general beauty rule of thumb, beauty products tend to be more effective at night because we are indoors and protected from the elements and some of the hazards they can cause to the skin. On that note, here are 5 things every lady should do before she goes to bed. Remove make-up: This is not in any way optional but an absolute must. Sleeping with make-up does all kinds of damage to the skin including clogging the pores and invariably making the skin look dull and unattractive not to mention, aged. Don't be found wanting ladies. Cleanse, tone and moisturise: Another necessity, it's important that the skin is thoroughly cleansed after a long day of being exposed to the elements. After this toning and moisturising should follow as this nourishes the skin, helping it recover. Exercise: The benefits of exercise are endless. Asides keeping the body fit, exercise is also beneficial for the general well-being of the body. It needn't be anything overtly strenuous, a couple of sit-ups or sets on the skipping rope should do the trick. Drink plenty of water: In addition to using skin care products, it's also important to cleanse the skin from within. Water is great for hydrating the skin as well as promoting body metabolism so its an all round great habit to drink water all through the day and again at night before sleep. Use hand cream: It is said that you can tell the age of a lady by looking at her hands. Moreso, the hands are exposed to the elements all day so take the time to properly nourish and hydrate them every night. Your hands will look much more supple by morning. GISTRENDY..COM |

Nairaland / General / SAD>> 35 Policemen ‘missing’ After Boko Haram Raid by henryc4: 12:31am On Aug 24, 2014 |
Thirty-five Nigerian police officers deployed to a training academy in the remote northeast are missing after a Boko Haram attack on the facility earlier this week, a spokesman said Saturday. The Islamists attacked the academy just outside the town of Gwoza on Wednesday. Boko Haram seized Gwoza earlier this month, but the military has said it is preparing an offensive to retake the town in Borno state. “Thirty-five policemen who are still missing from the facility as a result of the latest attack are being searched for with very promising prospects of locating them,” national police spokesman Emmanuel Ojukwu said in a statement. He separately told AFP that it was premature to speculate on whether the officers had been taken hostage by the militants who have kidnapped hundreds of people during a five-year uprising. Some may have been killed with their bodies not yet found while others may have ran to safety during the Islamist onslaught but have not yet reported their whereabouts, Ojukwu said. He added it was possible that some had been abducted but that investigations were ongoing. Boko Haram, blamed for more than 10,000 deaths since 2009, has repeatedly targeted the police and the military throughout an insurgency aimed at creating a strict Islamic state in the north. The crisis has intensified in recent months. Boko Haram is believed to be in control of large swathes of territory in Borno, its historic stronghold, as well as at least one town in neighbouring Yobe state. President Goodluck Jonathan declared a state of emergency in the northeast in May of last year and the military launched a massive operation to flush out the Islamists, which showed some initial success. But analysts say top brass failed to sustain the pressure, allowing Boko Haram to regroup and recapture a group of towns and key roads in the region. Nairaland / General / Live Snake Found On A Plane In Australia by henryc4: 12:19am On Aug 24, 2014 |
A snake on a plane has left hundreds of passengers stranded overnight in Sydney. The eight-inch (20cm) Mandarin rat snake was discovered by staff in the doorway of a Qantas 747 jet due to leave Sydney for Tokyo. The reptile was spotted just before passengers began boarding. Some 370 passengers were booked on the flight but all had to spend Sunday night in Sydney hotels thanks to the slippery customer. Australia's Agriculture Department said the snake, a species that grows to an average length of 1.2 metres (4ft), had been euthanised "as exotic reptiles of this kind can harbour pests and diseases not present in Australia". The department said the snake had arrived aboard the jet in a flight a day earlier from Singapore. In January a large python hitched a ride on another Qantas flight "The Department of Agriculture is looking into how the snake came to be on the plane, but isn't able to speculate at this time," it said. The mildly venomous Asian snake was about the width of a pencil and did not pose a threat to humans, but it had the potential to cause ecological havoc in the Australian environment if it had escaped the plane with a mate, Canberra Reptile Zoo herpetologist Peter Child said. A replacement flight was scheduled to leave on Monday morning for the delayed travellers. One of the stranded passengers, Noah Harris, told Australia's Channel 7 news: "We got a night in a nice hotel and we lose a day of our trip to Tokyo, but what are you going to do? It's a good story." It is the second "snakes on a plane" drama for Qantas this year. In January a three-metre python hitched a ride on an early morning flight from Cairns to Papua New Guinea. The reptile was spotted trapped on the plane's wing and did not survive the journey. SOURCE>>> http://medianewsng..com/2014/08/snake-found-on-plane-in-australia.html |

Nairaland / General / Armed Men Invade Mortuary In Enugu, Cart Away Corpse by henryc4: 11:38am On Jul 31, 2014 |
The corpse of Chief Theodore Ezeobi, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), who died about four months ago, was yesterday morning stolen from the mortuary of Mother of Christ Specialist Hospital in Enugu. Before the sudden disappearance of the corpse, the family of the deceased had been having a running battle over his burial that pitted the first son, Theodore (Jnr), against his mother and other siblings. A burial announcement, which was published in the newspapers, fixing the burial for July 31, was quickly disowned by another advertorial signed by daughter to the deceased, Chinelo Ezeobi, who advised well-wishers and the public to disregard the publication as the correct information for the burial would be made public at the right time Chinelo, who spoke to media on phone, said they were shocked to learn yesterday morning that their father’s corpse had been removed from the mortuary. She said unknown persons broke into the mortuary and took away the corpse. She also confirmed that the family had been having issues with the first son over the burial. Following the development, the police in Enugu had invited the hospital mortician, some security men from the hospital and some top management staff for questioning. A close hospital source alleged that the mortician had gone to the mortuary to deposit another corpse shortly after midnight when he discovered that the mortuary had been burgled. Sensing trouble, he searched and discovered that one of the corpses in his care had been removed. Consequently, he raise the alarm and at the same time informed the bereaved family of the development. The source also disclosed that there was a standing order that nobody should be allowed to see the corpse apart from few identified members of the immediate family. A letter was also made available to media, in which the hospital through its counsel, Chief Charles Ogbo, in reply to a letter from one of the sons of the deceased demanding the release of Chief Ezeobi’s corpse to him, stated that it was not the practice of the hospital to release a corpse to persons who did not deposit it in their mortuary. The letter read in part: “Our clients will release the corpse to your mother who deposited same, you have the option of coming in company of your mother and on production of the receipt, our clients will release the corpse to you if she consents. “Your late father was brought to Mother of Christ Specialist Hospital in Enugu on January 20, 14 by your mother, Iyom Bernadette Ezeobi, who stayed with him until his death on March 28, 14. Your mother deposited his corpse in our clients’ mortuary and was issued with a receipt. “You never showed up in hospital for the whole period your late father was hospitalised. On April 25, 14 (almost one month after his death), you went to our clients demanding to see his corpse and they rightly refused on grounds that you did not deposit the corpse.” Efforts to reach the first son of Chief Theodore Ezeobi, Theodore Junior, failed as at the time of this report as his mobile phones were not reachable. Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ebere Amaraizu, said the police were trying to unravel the mystery behind the missing corpse. When media visited the Central Police Station in Enugu, the mortician, who was in handcuff and some management staff of the hospital were seen in the station SOURCE>> http://gistreporter..com/2014/07/armed-men-invade-mortuary-in-enugu-cart.html |
