Good day all,

As we enter into a new year, I would like to drop some advice here about career growth and opportunities in Germany.

If you are coming to Germany please have an open mind. It is possible to get Paid Professional English-speaking student jobs, whether internships or work-study (Werkstudent) in your field of study, contrary to what people may say. I am living proof. I have lived in Germany for almost 5 years now. First 2 years I did warehouse jobs. I could feel my body deteriorating due to stress, and I couldn’t continue living life that way so I decided to break barriers, long story short, I now have a professional full-time job and I don’t speak German fluently. I didn’t let that get in the way of my success.

Some advantages of professional student jobs:

- [ ] You are learning and getting experience in your field of study, thereby increasing your chances of getting a full-time job after graduation.
- [ ] It is an opportunity to integrate and expand your professional network
- [ ] You get paid anywhere from 850€ - 1,200€ monthly (net) and you can use the contract or payslips to extend your study visa.
- [ ] You are not compromising on your health.

And yes, companies in Germany hire Nigerian students but you need to be consistent in your search and have a resume that stands out to make that application. This is where some miss it. Your resume and cover letter are what gets you seen and one step in, make it count!

If you need assistance with writing and enhancing your resume & cover letter send an email to resumeguide.space@gmail.com or follow @resumeguide.space on Instagram.

Good luck and I wish you guys all the best in 2024!

Hello.
which city in germany are you??

Good day house pls I have a question... assuming I travel to Germany on a study visa and then like 4 or 6 months after I get there I decide to switch to Ausbildung, is it possible to do that without having to come back to Nigeria to apply for Ausbildung again?...your answers are much appreciated in advance.

Ausbildung is a full time occupation and as student you can't work full time because your student work permit doesn't allow that. to do Ausbildung, you finish your studies, get your 18 months job search permit. with it you can do the Ausbildung.

You can list 10 German schools and I can guarantee you prolly only 2 will give that option. As an Anglophone nation, they don't ideally trust our "study in English". So we have to prove it by writing those exams.
oga many schools in germany accept letter of English proficiency...almost all the schools in Bavaria accept it... I applied to more than 20 schools and they accepted it.... few school don't

Yes you do. That, or a Letter of Sponsorship.
Having the Deutschland Stipendium is just a means for you to be qualified to apply for Category A and also to fund your studies when you arrive but you’ll also need to show them a proof of your fully funded Blocked Account or your Letter of Sponsorship, so they’ll know you can sustain yourself during your stay in Germany.

This is totally wrong! if you have Deutschland Stipendium, You don't need any block account or sponsorship.
The letter of scholarship is your means of sustainance.

if you want to fund your block account... Just go to a bank like access and open an euro account. buy euro from aboki or anyhow you want to do it, deposit it in the bank account and transfer it to your block account.

It's really infuriating. I got the same email. 1 year 6 months to get a an interview at the German embassy for Nigerians is just an insult to our government.

From my observation, they are trying to stop Nigerians from taking advantage of their free/cheap education system but what they don't know is that lots of people are admitted to private universities and they are a lot of genuine scholars from the applicants.

Category A wait time is within 4 weeks while B is over 1 year and 6 months. It doesn't make sense. It is better they scrap the Category B thing and make it known that you can only study in Germany if you meet the requirements in Category A instead of frustrating the dreams and aspiration of genuine people. but they wouldn't do that as that would expose them.

We all know that in a decent country they will not be doing this. Our government is lackadaisical about issues like this and that is why we have to so something about it by letting the whole world know how Germany treats Nigerian students.

If we don't put an end to this, everyone that comes after us will have to go through the same treatment or even worse.

Collectively if we put sufficient effort with the right resources, we can put this issue in front of the whole world and get a good reaction from the German embassy without risking our chances of going to Germany. The way I see it, it's a win-win situation for us.

I'd like to hear you guys opinion about this so we can get into discussions about the plan and execution.

I totally understand your frustration and sentiments bro. I was once in your shoes. but there's nothing you or Nigerian government can do about it.
protesting would even worsen the whole issue.

My advice is if you can't wait... you follow the route other people follow (going to neighboring countries to do your interview)..

or you consider going to other countries.... there are some European countries whose schools have affordable tuition fees... example is Finnland.
Some Finland schools their tuition ranges from 5000euro and above or even less..... Finland is one of the best countries in Europe to study... I have friends who left germany for Finnland.. and their doing fine.

another good thing about Finnland is after graduation... you can get permanent residency with any type of job be it cleaning job or professional...

unlike germany....

One of the schools I'm applying to requested that applicants should notarize their documents at the embassy. For people who notarized their documents at the embassy, I want to ask if there's any special invite required before one could go to the embassy to notarize documents?

You have to go to the embassy's website and book appointment for certification.

Search for.. Hamm-lippstadt hochschule (Bsc electronic engineering)

They have a very simple admission process. At least as the time I applied... They accept letter of English proficiency from your former school

Whose mandate was stolen? Is it the Peter Obi who was getting less than 5k votes when Tinubu and Atiku were getting hundreds of thousands of votes in the core north? You think getting 95% of the votes cast in the southeast wins you a Presidential election in Nigeria? Lol

BTW, are you aware that the total valid votes in Kano and Sokoto States alone dwarf that of the entire southeast? Are you also aware that Peter Obi didn't get up to 35k votes in these two states while Tinubu secured more than 800k votes? So when next you're crooning "mandate stealer", take it to Instagram where most people are more concerned about big front and back.

If you believe tinubu got the 800k votes legitimately in the north as you claim then you are very gullible and domb...
All the votes the votes he got in the north were manipulated and rigged.

Tinubu can never get half the votes he got in a free and fair election... NEVER

I'm currently about to complete my MSc here in Germany 🇩🇪.

I'm looking at moving to the US for PhD.

My field is ecology, zoology, biological sciences in general.

I'm looking for recommendations for schools where I can get a fully funded PhD position in the US...
Links or contacts would be highly appreciated.

Hey buddy,

In my own case, I didn’t defer my admission.

I got an admission for the summer semester 2023 and I booked for an appointment 2 months ago. I knew I’ll be called probably next year for my interview, so I wrote my school about the whole visa delay thing and they told me I can resume classes any time when I arrive in Germany as long as I keep on enrolling in each semester till I arrive.

Also, they gave me a certificate from the Office of Admission of Foreign Students to submit to the Embassy confirming that my letter of admission for this year summer semester will be valid till the 2024/2025 semesters. So I don’t have to worry about submitting an updated letter of admission when I’m going for my interview at the embassy. In other words, this my current letter of admission for the Summer Semester 2023 also serves as a letter of admission for the Winter Semester 2023, Summer Semester 2024 and Winter Semester 2024.

I’d suggest you do the same just incase you can no longer defer your admission. Write your school and tell them about the visa delay in your country and tell them to write a letter for you to submit to the Embassy just like the one my school gave to me.

Thanks

It has been a while since I came here but then I have time today so I want to encourage you guys with a short story (my story of the German adventure). I started checking this thread in 2012 when I read almost from the beginning to the end. However, during those times I remember many people complained that those that travelled to Germany do not come back here to give updates on their life during and after their studies. I and many others made a commitment to come back once in a while to update those willing to take our path. I came back on this thread about two years ago when I got a job here in Germany to talk about it but here today, I would like to talk generally about my path in Germany. I hope this would not be too long and boring for you. My journey started in 2015, when I came to study Agricultural Economics (Masters program), without a scholarship, To tell you plainly, it is not easy as a self-funded student in Germany, although very doable. Many times I remember I go for a night shift and resume for another morning shift the following day so that I can pay my bills. Now, Imagine what it would be like now for students when prices are skyrocketing. That is why these days, I try to help students with scholarship information and that was the reason why I shared the video I quoted. Moving forward, I graduated with an above-average grade and immediately after I got my first interview, I thought life is so easy. The interview went excellently well but I never heard back from the company despite sending a few more messages. From that time, it took almost 6 months to get the next interview after paying for different professional CV editing services. Still no show. It took 1 year and a few months after I finished before I finally got a break. Mind you, many of my colleagues already left Germany for the US and many other places because their 18 months expired and for many other reasons. Fast forward to 2022, I applied for a permanent residence permit because once you have worked for 2 years after studying here you are entitled to it. After several bureaucracies, I got the permit. With the permit, the possibilities here are endless, you can even become self-employed. My advice for you when you are coming are:

1. PLEASE LEARN GERMAN LANGUAGE if you are really serious about coming here. I had 2 interviews in the past where I missed out at an advanced stage because I couldn't speak German then. It is better and cheaper to learn in Nigeria before coming to face the ever-moving life here.
2. Another piece of advice is please do not come here just because you want to leave the country, make sure you research about your course of study very well before coming here. Some programs are designed for you to go back to your country and develop it not to stay here. If you come for such a program, your chances of getting a job before 18 months are limited
3. Try to apply for scholarships if you can, it will make your life easier when you get here and your grades can be enhanced.
4. There are many opportunities for you here if you can associate yourself with the right group.

That's it. I am talking too much already and I apologize for that. I just realize that for me to also try to catch up since the last time I was here, there is a need to paint the whole picture. So guys, all the best

Were you doing a professional job during the two years to get the permanent residency??
