Education / Re: Do Or Don't: Studying While Listening To Music by hilario8898(m): 2:01pm On Feb 09, 2016
charix:
Reading is monotous, so is bricklaying. Brick layers blast music to take their minds off the repetitive nature of their work and so did one of my room mates in school who studied 24/7, 3 months per semester. He graduated with a First class honours.

I was never a serious student but found listening to classical music improved my concentration while carrying out research for my project - I experimented to discover if the Mozart effect was real or a made up theory. These type of articles made me try it because the volume of study carried out then made me look for any means to better my productivity.
Thanks for sharing!
My results? The Mozart effect, if real, is not something you'd notice. Music is good for studying but as a form of caution, reduce the volume of music to the barest minimum where you can hear it but doesn't cause distraction. At least from my experience I was always able to squeeze in an extra two or three hours of study time every night.
Thanks for sharing!

Education / Do Or Don't: Studying While Listening To Music by hilario8898(m): 11:09pm On Feb 08, 2016
Researchers and college students have often wondered whether listening to music has negative or positive effects on the student’s studying habits and whether studying while listening to music is a “do” or “don’t.”

Studies have shown that listening to music before studying or performing a task can be beneficial as it improves attention, memory, and even your ability to do mental math as well as helping lessen depression and anxiety.
Many researchers, as well as students, who think listening to music helps memory have called the practice the “Mozart Effect.” Of course, nowadays many students are not actually listening to Mozart, but pop or other music, so the effect may not be the same.
These studies and researchers seem to indicate that music can actually help you study and those who listen to music while studying may actually be better off for it.
However, there have also been several studies that have shown that music can actually have negative impacts on your studying effectiveness — particularly when it comes to memorizing something in order.
Dr. Nick Perham’s 2010 study, “Can preference for background music mediate the irrelevant sound effect,” explored how music can interfere with short-term memory potential.
“We found that listening to liked or disliked music was exactly the same, and both were worse than the quiet control condition,” Perham discovered. ”Both impaired performance on serial-recall tasks.”
Listening to music may diminish your cognitive abilities in these situations because when you’re trying to memorize things in order, you can get thrown off and confused by the various words and notes in the song playing in the background, Perham theorized.
Stanford University professor Clifford Nass had similar thoughts.
“Music with lyrics is very likely to have a problematic effect when you’re writing or reading. Probably less of an effect on math, if you’re not using the language parts of your brain,” Nass said. “In my day, there was no way you could take music to the library. When [today's students] go to the library to study, they bring their noise, and music, with them.”

Today, it’s easier than ever to bring your music with you wherever you go as music has become inherently portable. We listen to music while we walk, cook, drive — when we want to feel happy or relaxed. Music has become a fundamental part of our lives, which is why students are so eager to know whether it will negatively or positively impact their studying.
Because music can impact and regulate your mood and the best mood to study in is a more relaxed mood, choosing music that helps you relax but also with enough beat or rhythm to ensure you don’t zone out while studying is crucial. But music that’s too loud or with too much of an upbeat tempo can also be distracting, so having a playlist or specific artist you turn to for studying music can really help.
If you’re the type of person who has more difficulty multitasking and is easily distracted, listening to music while studying may just cause your attention to drift to the music rather than help you concentrate on your material.
If you’re really set on listening to music while studying but know your focus will probably end up divided, choose classical music or more acoustic music with minimal words to distract you. Movie scores, which typically consist of a bunch of orchestral pieces, may also be good background music for you to study to.
So basically, the final decision about studying while listening to music is up to you — do you feel you concentrate better with Taylor Swift or Hozier singing in the background? Or do you find yourself thinking of the lyrics to the song rather than what you’re supposed to be studying?
Music’s effects on study habits will vary from person to person, and can also be affected by what you’re listening to — the genre of the music, how loud it is, etc.
Personally, when I need some background music to study to, I’ll usually make a more acoustic playlist consisting of songs by Joshua Radin, Cary Brothers, and Ed Sheeran, with some of The Fray and Goo Goo Dolls thrown in, too.
But in order for you to study the most productively, you need to figure out the effect music has on your studying ability, and then tailor your studying playlist — be it silence or music — to best suit your needs and efficiency.

Computers / Solution To Laptop Black Screen Of Death by hilario8898(m): 5:39pm On Jan 29, 2016
I have noticed that most laptops tend to have this problem, well it can be fixed with this solutions below, remember that the proper thing to do in times of having this problem is to take it to a laptop engineer...

Let's begin...

Fix 1: while powering the PC, hold the D button along with the power button....repeat continuously until it displays, when it displays, it would show a variety of colours until your PC boots up normally.
N.B: you can use Fn or F8 if the D does not work.

Fix 2: Uncouple the whole PC down to the motherboard, then unscrew the heat cover on top the graphic ic, then heat it up with a blower, or you can use a hair dryer for about 10 minutes, with intervals for cooling to occur.

Fix 3: Sometimes, it makes some beeping sound, about 8times continuously, this is to signal that something is not connected properly in the system. You have to unplug all cords, hardisk, ram, screen monitor, clean with a soft brush and fuel or spirit, then allow to dry before connecting them back.

N.B: You have to take extra care not to damage any important part of the PC

Hope this helps....

Do You Know Your Whatsapp Can do This? (with Pictures)

Have you ever wondered of you could use your WhatsApp for other purposes apart from "chatting".

Well, Now you have...

You can have a "wiki" contact on your WhatsApp list, where you can inquire about any information that you want, just think of it as a cooler form of dictionary.

Step 1: Save this number as wikipedia +91 90434 89211

Step 2: Create a new group and insert only the wiki contact and save.

That's all....

All you gotta do is type "wiki" before any question and get your immediate answer...

Its really cool, you can get Live scores, meaning of words e.t.c

Enjoy...

Health / The Latest Misused Drug Among Nigerian Students - TRAMADOL by hilario8898(m): 3:01pm On Jan 18, 2016
Tramadol is used to treat moderate to severe pain.

The extended-release form of tramadol is for around-the-clock treatment of pain. This form of tramadol is not for use on an as-needed basis for pain.

Tramadol may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

You should not take tramadol if you have used alcohol, sedatives, tranquilizers, or narcotic medications within the past few hours.

Tramadol can slow or stop your breathing, especially when you start using this medicine or whenever your dose is changed. Never take tramadol in larger amounts, or for longer than prescribed. Do not crush, break, or open an extended-release pill. Swallow it whole to avoid exposure to a potentially fatal dose.

Seizures (convulsions) have occurred in some people taking this medicine. Tramadol may be more likely to cause a seizure if you have a history of seizures or head injury, a metabolic disorder, or if you are taking certain medicines such as antidepressants, muscle relaxers, narcotic, or medicine for nausea and vomiting

Tramadol may be habit-forming, even at regular doses. Take this medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Never share the medicine with another person. MISUSE OF NARCOTIC PAIN MEDICATION CAN CAUSE ADDICTION, OVERDOSE, OR DEATH, especially in a child or other person using the medicine without a prescription.

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant. Tramadol may cause life-threatening withdrawal symptoms in a newborn.

Do not drink alcohol. Dangerous side effects or death can occur when alcohol is combined with tramadol.

Do not crush the tramadol tablet. This medicine is for oral (by mouth) use only. Powder from a crushed tablet should not be inhaled or diluted with liquid and injected into the body. Using this medicine by inhalation or injection can cause life-threatening side effects, overdose, or death.

I've always had it in mind to create this thread.

It pains me most times when some girls yab and mis-yab the kind of boxers guys wearangry like say na their own clean pass grin

Let's jump right to it....

I kindda learnt it during secondary school, it was a unity mixed boarding school, so anything can happen when taking your bath, and you don't wanna be caught unclad...

It's quite simple...

You have to own at least 2 boxers

In the morning, you have your bath with the current one from the previous day... All you gotta do is bath normally while sponging and foaming everywhere including your boxers, you also make sure you wash it very well, you finish up with your thorough rinsing...

I know you're time conscious, it shouldn't take you more than 10 minutes....

After bathing you can leave the wet boxers to dry...You then put on the fresh clean one.....voilawink

When you get back home probably in the evening to freshing up, all you gotta do is repeat the same process.

Cons: You may end up using a bar of soap for a week or less.

Pros: Fresh clean boxers all day everyday...

Hope this helped!
I don't know If lalasticlala has told fynestboi how bros seun keeps his boxers all neat and clean with this method...Now you know cool

Religion / Why The Hatred Between Christians And Muslims by hilario8898(m): 10:05am On Jan 05, 2016
Right from time memorial, there have always been war between the two renowned religions. Both have claimed to do it for God. A lot of people have lost their lives in this war for God.

No matter how we try to twist it, the facts are clear...

They both follow the Holy book

Muslims believe that all should serve Allah and if you don't, you are termed an infidel.

Christians believe that all should serve Jehovah and if you dont , you'll die a sinner and won't make Heaven.

And so it begins.....

Much Hate, violence, scorn, discomfort, and yet we claim to do it for Love of God.

What say you?
Health / Re: How to cure darkspots on the face left from pimples by hilario8898(m): 9:18am On Jan 05, 2016
Dear Horoyeencar

I feel I owe it to you to comment...
One thing I advice you to do, is not to be discouraged by people who don't really understand what you're going through. I urge you to find a solution no matter what.

No one who has experienced acne is never truly free from it, they do get breakouts once in a while...

I have used most of the creams mentioned...
They were all below #1000

My bro who is a doc adviced me to get one with tretinoin, I got one called Retin A cream, costs about#2600 from a renowned chemist store...You can't see it in most chemist stores.

Used it for years, kept on renewing....

Not that it didn't work....it did! Just that you have to keep on using it to get continuous clarity of your face.

I then came to the conclusion that all this so-called acne clearing agents being produced to help people are not really helping in the long run, all they do is to provide relief at that particular point in time, and keep on making more money off you.

Time: it would take some time but always believe that it would be over...

Mine was more of a case of bums on the face, so black that it was noticeable, it looked like horns smiley ....worse than yours...

Solution: I had to go to a skin care office to get them removed, laser was used to burn them out of their root, spent about #10000 to get it done. Months later, face all healed....no more bums!

Don't bother about that cause, I've looked at your picture and the immediate solution I can give you is this.

Check in the market for chimek aloe Vera cream for stubborn pimples, barbers usually use them on clients after a shave....

Useful tips: Anytime you relax your hair, allow the relaxer water to wash around your face then wash off fully with soap, I don't really know why but it kindda makes the face smooth, and makes the pimples to fall out.

+ The rubbing of cream on the face every night can be really annoying and tasking, but don't get discouraged because I believe there is a time for everything...

A time for pimples and a time for it to be gone...

I wish you well on your travail journey....

Although we are often encouraged to wash our kids’ hands, it is also important to know how to wash hands well. Here are the steps:
1. Wet your hands with clean water. 2. Rub soap on their hands, and then rub their hands together to create lather for about 20 seconds. Make sure it goes into their nails, between their fingers and on their wrists. 3. Rinse thoroughly with water. 4. Dry with a clean towel.

Religion / A Message To All Christians, Atheist And Agnostics by hilario8898(m): 11:55pm On Nov 08, 2015
3. If someone you know who died rises from the dead to give you a message, will you believe?
Luke 16: 30

The rich man answered, “That is not enough, father Abraham! But if someone were to rise from death and go to them, then they would turn from their sins. But Abraham said, ‘If they will not listen to Moses and the prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone were to rise from death”.

I tell you solemnly, If you have ever experienced the darkness in this world, you will cling to God in all desperation and fear.
Most Great Men of God were strong unbelievers until God opened their eyes.

Time is Ticking……Tick Tock!....Tick Tock!

No matter how an Atheist or Agnostic person may detest and argue about the supremacy of God, they always will came a time in their lives, where they feel so much depth of emptiness, that they can’t explain or fathom.
To all believers out there, do not be afraid to stand up to any question being thrown at you about the word of God, try and answer what you know, and the one’s you do not know, you try as much as possible to find out from the Bible and theologians such as priests and evangelists of the word.
Do not be afraid to help out an atheist to accept the truth, which would set them free.

Religion / Reasons For Some Of The Doctrines Of Various Churches Today by hilario8898(m): 11:37pm On Nov 08, 2015
1. Deeper Life: Why women don’t wear earrings
Genesis 35:4

“ So they gave Jacob all the foreign gods that they had and also the earrings that they were wearing. He buried them beneath the oak tree near shechem”.

I would advice one to read the whole passage to understand what led to such actions.

2. Protestant Churches
Luke 9:49-50

John spoke up, “Master, we saw a man driving out demons in your name, and we told him to stop, because he doesn’t belong to our group.
Do not try to stop him, Jesus said to him and to the other disciples, because whoever is not against you is for you.

I used to be a firm believer of “If you are not a Catholic then you can’t make heaven” syndrome. But now, I know better!
As long as you are a Christian and acknowledge God as your personal Lord and savior, then you can be saved. Everyone has sinned and come short of the glory of God. Do not be hateful towards other churches teachings, as long as they teach that which is most important; which is the Love of God and our neighbours with all our heart, mind & spirt. Obey God’s commandments & flee from Evil.

But cain had long gone, before Seth was born to Adam & eve, and even if such marriage happened, why was reference not made in the bible.
One thing is for sure though, if anyone really needs to find out such answers for themselves, they need to go to the secret archives in the Vatican, I guess all passages cannot be found in the bible.
