How to Relocate to Canada from Nigeria Via Express Entry Route

Did you know that Canada plans to welcome 1.45 million permanent residents into the country over a 3 years plan; from 2023 - 2025?

On November 1, 2022, Canada Immigration Minister, Sean Fraser said "Canada is aiming to welcome a total of 1.45 million new permanent residents over three years across all immigration categories.”

Yes, and the beauty of this is you'll be given permanent residency even before your arrival. You’ll be eligible to start work immediately after you land. If you’re married, your children will enjoy free education, health care, as well as child support from the Canadian govt.

In my previous post, I talked about the 7 legit ways to move to Canada in 2023.

The first route I will be talking about today is the Express Entry route.

This is because it is one of the cheapest and fast ways to relocate to Canada from Nigeria as a SKILLED WORKER without spending a lot of money.

If you have up to 1-year full-time working experience in a skilled job, you're eligible to apply.

However, you need to meet other criteria such as language tests, education, Canadian connection, etc.

Once these criteria are met, the next step is to submit your profile online on the Express Entry portal. Once that is done, you'll be placed in a pool alongside other applicants.

Canada Express Entry makes use of a point-based ranking system called CRS. Once a draw is done, the Canadian government will send you an “invitation to apply” if you meet the cut-off point.

As I said earlier, the Express Entry route is one of the best, fasted, and legal ways to immigrate to Canada from Nigeria. However, there are a few things you should know.

This route is favourable to young professionals below the age of 30

You need to have a minimum educational qualification. The higher your qualification you have, the better your chances.

You need to meet a minimum English language test (IELTS) of at least 6.0 band.

You’ll need a Canadian connection. A Canadian connection means someone that is permanently resident in Canada and is related to you.

In summary, the express entry route favours younger people, say 30 years old and below with a Master’s degree, one year of work experience (in qualified jobs), and an IELTS score of 6.0+.

You may have heard that the Canadian government needs a lot of people to come to their country.

That is very correct! Canada has an aging population with a low birth rate leading to a shortage of manpower in the country. So, they need a lot of immigrants to survive but they also want to be sure that only quality immigrants are allowed into their country.

An overview of the Canada Express Entry Application process

Before you can create a profile in the Express Entry pool, you need to satisfy the following.

Step 1: Familiarize yourself with Canadian immigration policies, rules, and guidelines. You can find more information on the IRCC website.

Step 2: Evaluate your education credentials/qualifications. The first thing to do is to evaluate your education to Canadian standard (equivalent) using an ECA body; like WES, IQAS, etc.

An Educational credential assessment (ECA) is used to verify that your foreign degree, diploma, or certificate (or other proof of your credential) is valid and equal to a Canadian one. There are different types of ECAs. In this case, you need to get an ECA for immigration purposes.

Step 3: Study and sit for IELTS. IELTS means International English Language Testing System. It is very compulsory if you plan to relocate, and work as a skilled worker in Canada. If you plan to go through the study route, then you do not need an IELTS.

Step 4: Create an Express Entry profile.

Step 5: Your profile gets ranked in the Express Entry pool depending on your points. This is done using a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS)

Step 6: You’ll receive an “Invitation to Apply” (ITA) if you meet the cut-off point.

Step 7: You can get a job from a Canadian employer after you get an invitation to apply (ITA) for Canada.

Step 8: Get your Medical done, Biometric, Police Character Certificate, and other Documents.

Step 8: Apply for a Canada visa and migrate to Canada.
