Authorities on Monday were investigating the cause of a fire that swept through a home daycare in Erie, Pennsylvania, killing five children trapped inside.

Erie fire chief Guy Santone said the children, who ranged in age from eight months to seven years, were sleeping in second-floor bedrooms when the blaze broke out early Sunday.

He said firefighters arrived on the scene about 25 minutes later and found “heavy fire coming out of all the windows on the first floor, and reports were in that there were children trapped on the second floor.

“So firefighters, obviously, they started attacking the fire, but another group of firefighters laddered the side of the building and got up into the bedrooms,” Santone told news men.

“We were able to rescue or pull out the five younger children, but unfortunately they all passed away,” he said.

The woman who operated the daycare in her house, Elaine Harris, ran through the fire, and tried to drive herself to the hospital but crashed on the way, he said. She was flown to Pittsburgh for treatment.

Santone told the New York Times that one of the victims was Harris’s child and the other four were siblings, possibly left overnight by parents who worked night shifts.

Two boys said to be Harris’ sons, suffered minor injuries jumping from upper floor windows in the two story wood-frame house.

Santone said investigators were “leaning toward an electrical fire” as the cause of the blaze but had not yet concluded their probe.

He said investigators had found only a single smoke detector in the house, and that was in the attic.

DJ Arafat, a popular Ivorien entertainer died on Monday August 12, after being involved in a motorcycle accident and subsequently rushed to the hospital on Sunday August 11.

The "coupe-décalé" star died as a result of the injuries he sustained from the accident at a hospital in Abidjan. It was learnt that his motorcycle was hit by a car driven by a journalist from Radio Côte d'Ivoire. DJ Arafat was unconscious while being rushed to the hospital and sadly didn't survive the incident.

His death has been confirmed by Nigerian superstar Davido, who penned down a tribute to him on Instagram. He wrote;

Police in Tanzania have comfirmed that at least 57 people have been burned to death after a fuel tanker exploded in the eastern town of Morogoro.

Regional police commissioner Steven Kabwe told the local Azam TV that 57 bodies have been recovered and added that many others who suffered burns are being treated.

Witnesses in Morogoro, which lies about 120 miles (200 kilometers) from Tanzania’s economic hub of Dar es Salaam, told The Associated Press that scores of people had gathered around the fuel tanker after it was involved in an accident trying to siphon fuel when the tanker burst into flames.

A Nigerian man shared a heart-wrenching account of his mum's death, 7 days after he launched a search campaign for her on Twitter. HiTNG reports.

Five men have been arrested by the Nigeria Customs Service Onne Area Command, for stealing tramadol and other drugs from a sealed 40-foot seized container which they loaded in two vehicles.

Area Controller of the command Aliyu Saidu, revealed that the five suspects are being investigated and have been detained alongside the vehicles. The seized drugs include 14 cartons of Time tablets, five cartons of Really Extra analgesic and two cartons of tramadol.

“It is regrettable to note that while the Nigeria Customs Service is working round the clock to free this country of illicit goods, some recalcitrant and unpatriotic citizens are not relenting in their desperate urge to sabotage our efforts by spreading harmful drugs,” Aliyu said.

The suspects who will be charged to court allegedly tried bribing a Customs officer with N1m for an easy escape with the drugs.

One of the victims of the ATBU Bauchi bridge collapse has been identified as Salamat.

Salamat, a 200 level student studying Chemistry Education, was killed alongside four others when a pedestrian bridge at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Gubi Campus, collapsed last night during a heavy downpour.

Salamat and other students were on their way back to the hostel when the bridge linking the lecture rooms to the hostel collapsed, killing 5 and causing others to suffer various degrees of injuries.

Salamat's sister had gone on Twitter to ask for help in locating her sister after the bridge collapsed. Hours later, she returned to the platform to inform that her sister was one of those who died.

Five students of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Gubi Campus, have been confirmed dead after a metal pedestrian bridge that links one of the hostels and another building containing lecture rooms, collapsed last night during a heavy downpour.

The students were on their way back to the hostel when the bridge collapsed.

The students of the University are currently protesting and blaming the bridge collapse on negligence by the school authorities.

Iretiola Doyle has condemned the Nigerian government for deploying armed policemen to discourage unarmed protesters from carrying out a peaceful protest, yet doing nothing to armed bandits who wreak havoc in the country.

Armed policemen and soldiers clashed with unarmed citizens yesterday, August 5, as they set out to begin the planned #RevolutionNow protest. During the clash between uniformed men and citizens, Nigerians were teargassed and one photo purportedly showed a man shot in the leg. Some protesters were also arrested and taken away in a Black Maria.

Also, prior to the protest, Omoyele Sowore - the organiser of the Revolution Now protest and former presidential aspirant - was arrested by the DSS and is still in custody.
These, combined, created tension in the country and has been the topic of most conversations.

Reacting to the chaos, actress Iretiola Doyle tweeted; "It doesn't matter where you stand politically, you have to admit (at the very least) that it's a curious case when a nation deploys its security apparatus against unarmed citizens while armed bandits roam free; killing, stealing and destroying at will."

A Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH) graduate, Isaac Atamba has been shot dead in a gang related violence in Calabar.

Atamba, a native of Igwo village Obudu LGA in Cross River State was gunned down on Friday August 2, while working at his laundry shop Atimbo, Calabar Municipal.

It has not been established which gang he belonged to and the rival that killed him.
