Special forces have stormed a five-star hotel in the Malian capital Bamako after gunmen stormed it and took at least 170 people hostage.
Mali's state broadcaster reported that 80 of the hostages have been released with commandos going floor to floor inside the Radisson Blu Hotel. Later, the company who owns the hotel said in a statement that 125 guests and 13 employees were still in the building.
"The attackers are still inside. We're hearing gunfire from time to time," a witness outside the Radisson told the Reuters news agency.
Gunman shouting "Allahu Akbar" earlier on Friday opened fire outside the luxury hotel in the centre of the capital before storming it.
Reports said they drove up in vehicles bearing diplomatic licence plates, thereby gaining easy access.
About 10 gunmen arrived early in the morning and shot all the guards in front of the Radisson," business owner Garba Konate told Al Jazeera.
Another witness said he helped a wounded guard to safety.
"I started hearing gunshots coming from the hotel," said Ibrahim, 28, who works at a cultural centre 40 metres away.

Two suspected members of Boko Haram sect who disguised as members of the Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’a Wa’iqamitis Sunna (JIBWIS) First Aid Group based in Zaria, Kaduna state, ‎have been arrested and handed over to the police. Daily Trust reports that the Police Area Commander in charge of Zaria headquarters, Muhammad D.‎ Shehu, confirmed the arrest and said the suspects will be‎ transferred to the police state command.

Interior ministry says cell was led by Lebanese man who raised funds and provided logistical support for the group.
Kuwaiti security authorities have busted an international cell that was sending air defence systems and funds to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group, the interior ministry said.
The cell's chief, a Lebanese man who was not named, confessed that he raised funds and provided logistical support for the group, which carried out deadly attacks in Lebanon and France last week, the ministry said on Thursday.

2 children aged three and five, were staying with their father, Ayodele Ekundayo, who worked in a cement factory in the Fagba area of the state. Their father reportedly left the sisters in the care of his five co-workers, who also lived in the factory with him.
The men, whose ages ranged from 24 to 33, allegedly took advantage of the girls and raped them.
Ekundayo said he discovered the rape after his daughters started complaining of pains in their private parts.

A Belgian official tells AP that raids are linked to a suicide bomber who took part in attacks that killed 129 people.

Belgian authorities have launched six raids in the Brussels region linked to a suicide bomber who took part in the recent attacks in Paris, according to the AP news agency.
An official in the Belgian federal prosecutor's office told the agency on Thursday that the raids were taking place in Molenbeek and other areas of Brussels.
