How are you enjoying your m271 sir?

Am using M111 not M271. However M111 has not given me any trouble, that engine always answers my calls.

What a tiring process. So if car is overheating one will have to park and follow this process to be able to even detect?

You must not park, you can navigate through while driving. If am on a long journey, I navigate to have my temperature displayed for me.

Engine temperature please

Navigate with the buttons on steering by your left hand side, so that it can lead you to odometer. Press either of the buttons where the yellow arrow is pointing until you get to odometer. Afterwards, press where the black arrow is pointing to display the temperature .

Seniors pls how do I know if my car temperature is normal/okay since there's no temperature gauge like the regular Japanese vehicles?

What I've starting my car in the morning was +27°C but sometimes this afternoon it rose up to 40°C and then came down to +34°C and has been there for some time now on the dashboard.

Is this the way to check, if yes, at what temperature do I have to be worried??

Are you talking about the outside temperature or your engine temperature?

Bought this car direct tokunbo, W203 C200 kompressor M271 engine

On trying to gas up the AC system the technician discovered the air isn't blowing into the cabin, which is the air is not coming out from the vent especially through the centre and back vents. And even the one on top of the dashboard facing the windshield directly so he recommended an electrician.

Elerectrician said its the AC fan, possibly not blowing towards the right direction. After some troubleshooting, brought down the dashboard and the fan (blower) he said we have to get the one that blows to both directions.

Got another from ladipo, fixed it yet problem persists.

I was frustrated, after spending money and time... This job has taken 2 whole days yet no tangible result.

I asked him to couple everything and after that the steering wheel refused to turn. B4 that while he was coupling back the dashboard I'd noticed that the steering wheel nokkle below the steering neck doesn't push in and out again so the steering neck can't even easily do it's normal up and down adjustments. I complained to him he said he waz going to fix that later.

So right now, the steering neck can't adjust easily, that nokkle below it is stiff can't even go in let alone come out and the worst of it all the steering wheel doesn't turn.

So I'm confused and frustrated right now but I'm calm, this is first time to own and use a MB so no experience whatsoever.

So please anyone with experience or advice should kindly help.

Could thus be some sort of security or something, if it's some sort of security car wouldn't have start na.

CC: ibbabah, nakoks, OfficialDJ, weyreypey and other gurus in the house

NB: It was discovered car was converted in Europe by some professionals b4 car was brought into nigeria, I must confess they did a professional job leaving no trace unless by someone who has had an experience b4.

Pls tag anyone that can as well help especially with the vent issue

So sorry that you went through all these issues with your ride. Is really unfortunate that a toks car will begin to swallow money when is yet to cover enough kilometers. Most of these dealers are evil, they are just after profit and not after sales satisfaction. He knew about the conversion but will tell you all manner of sweet words at the point of purchase.
I bought a toks MB C180 in 2019 and the car kept overheating. I had to change gasket and fixed radiator but the problem persist. I had to go and dump the car with the car dealer. I requested for my former car. A toks car will definitely have some minor repairs but not a massive one that takes over a N100k from you and still counting. There maybe unfolded issues yet to be known. Only God knows what is warming up to pop out again. For peace of mind and value for your money, please return the car now that the damage hasn’t gone far. Let him find another car that will give you value for your money. This time around, please do take a competent fellow who knows in and out of that particular car you are going for. Doing this at all times helps to safeguard our pockets from those evil dealers and Kazeems ready to make us daily customers.

Am not, is just an interest. Am not in Lagos but Gombe.

I already bought it but yet to register it and soon, probably this week.

This is what I've notice today as I just returned from the mechanic workshop not too long ago.

Car has been moving well but I noticed the stabilizer linkage needed a change... After leg check we replaced the two linkage and breakpads (both front). The mechanic boys didn't suspend the car well so the front was leveled towards the ground.

Started car after work done then I noticed vibration even while in idle, this vibration is normal especially when I'd to connect the batter terminal heads well as they're not well fasten. But this time the vibration wouldn't go off instead an engine check light came up.

Just this morning a malfunction information added to the one's I posted earlier on the dashboard with the caption "service exceeded 546days". Bla bla bla

Lastly, a break pad signal also came out after the change of the pads.

Please kindly assist.
My plan is to carryout the servicing tomorrow

Sorry am replying you very late. Get the car scanned to be sure what causes the vibration. I believe you have done the service A. Normally service is done after 10,000 miles or a year, whichever that comes first. That’s if you are using the recommended synthetic oil. Service B can come around 20,000 miles (32,000km) or one year after the previous service. Your service indicator should be reset after every service. When that is done you won’t receive any of service being exceeded.
You can join the Mercedes Benz WhatsApp group for quick response.

Oh yeah... Got it now... But what does he meant by the statement below.

I'll be using my C200 M271 2003 for Uber in Lagos. Should I be worried about anything?

I've a good maintenance culture off cource

Have you bought the car already? If yes, continue using it for some time then give it out. The price of the engine is also not funny now in case anything happens. Baba is still the president and dollar is on the rise. If no, go for the C200 M111 2.0L kompressor with red top. This engine is way more cheaper compared to M271.

Tell me more about this balance shaft issue with the M271 engine is it a factory defect, can it be manage or its lack of human maintenance because I'll be doing approximately 800miles weekly with the car what should I be worried about and what should I do to minimize any major problem.

The M271 has nothing to do with balance shaft gear failure but M272 and M273. V8 are also not left out of this failure. The balance shaft is a sprocket in the engine that helps to eliminate vibration at higher speeds while shifting gears. It does this by acting as a counterweight to these engine components as the vehicle accelerates, keeping them as still and secure as possible.
These are the possible signs of balance shaft failure.
Rough idling, engine stalling or misfiring, loud rattling or vibrating noises from the engine and the check engine light is turned on.
To fix the failure, it requires the whole engine be brought down and is also an expensive repairs. The M272 engine price has gone up, is about 600k or so.
The M271 has its own funny problems. A friend changed his engine three times last year. You could be lucky nothing may happen to yours.

I presently drive M111 planning to upgrade to M271. What is your advice concerning M271 engines in terms of reliability and ruggedness?

To be frank, people I came across who used M271 regretted coming in contact with that engine. Some of them downgraded to M111, while some upgraded to M272.
To the best of my knowledge, M271 is not as reliable and rugged as M111. Currently am on M111 and if upgrading I would go for M272 2007 in order to bypass balance shaft issues mostly found in M272 2006.
You can go for 230 M272 2007 or one with M112 V6 (bulletproof engine).

Yeah 06/07 model of the C230 is V6.

Please any knowledge of what the C200 03/04 model engine is called?

Like the one in the picture

Also, I've find it very difficult to open the oil cap, any head up?

The engine is called M271 1.8L, that’s what you attached to your comment. The C200 2000 - 2002 has M111 2.0L. After some modifications, M271 replaced M111 in 2003.

I'll try to add up to what officialDJ has done up there.

1) Very good
2) it's a 1.8L, so very good
3) budget from 2m and above for automatic and clean title
4) full synthetic oil.

Good luck in your search for one.

230K 2005 is 1.8L M271 4 plugs
230 2006/2007 is 2.5L M272 V6.

Apart from its fuel economy which is the main reason am going for it what other things is good about the car, are parts available and will the cost of maintenance break my pocket, please I need urgent answers from everyone

Instead of the A class, why not go for C180 or C230 2000. They also have the economy u are looking for.

If you are buying Benz, don’t think about fuel consumption. If you are thinking about fuel consumption, don’t think about Benz.

You are right about the fuel issue. When driving a MB forget fuel and enjoy the moment. Enjoy the performance and comfort.

My people your opinion on 2005 Mercedes Benz C230 kompressor 1.8liters 4cylinder car....

Though you haven’t told us if u are going for toks or fairly used. However anyone u go for ensure that you use the recommended oils. Avoid flooded areas too. Take care of it properly and you will enjoy it.

NB: Don’t go for a fairly used that has been abused or else you may end up regretting what u bought. You know some Nigerians don’t have maintenance culture. .

Ehen, 2 years is a long time, that means it's not that bad, I usually don't expect things such as supposed original car battery to last, I just have it at the back of my mind that I'll change it sooner or later

I change my breakpad today and my guy bill me 25k just for the breakpad alone, then adding his bill

Abeg how much dem dey sell breakpad cos someone else confirmed to me that same mech guy told him 15k for an oil which actually costs 7500 from other peeps in the market

25k for brake pads? I find it difficult to believe this from ur mechanic. I think is necessary we also do our survey once in a while bcus it won’t be funny that ur mechanic will use u as his ATM machine.

I greet you my people. Hope we are good? This thread or group has given or exposed us to more knowledge about the kind of cars we drive. But of recent, we have had more of fights than attending to people who needs urgent help. You will all agree with me that, whatever we argue upon here adds no penny to anyone’s pocket. Whatever brand of car we defend, remember that the manufacturers don’t know you and won’t pay you for buying their cars. Those who wish to buy a car of 20 years is their business not ours. And those who drive a car of 2015 and above is their business not ours. We all have our priorities, our priorities can’t be same. All of us were not born same day and even twins never came out same time. That’s to tell you that some sort of argument is very insignificant in our lives. When God created us, he did not come looking for any of u here to consult. We must not buy a car to impress people. Even if people keep praising the car from today until the world ends, that won’t gain you anything not even a ticket to heaven. So what is the argument about? We put our ourselves into seriously problem bcus we want to impress people. Those who praise or sing how beautiful ur car is, how much have they given you to maybe buy fuel or replace a broken part in ur car? So you can see that is baseless. We don’t buy cars bcus of people, we buy car bcus we are in need of it. If anyone here perceived that older cars with age of 20 years shouldn’t be patronized, the person can quickly seek for the ban of such importation through the National Assembly. Now for those who think buying a car that is not more than five or seven years, let me tell you it is bcus u have the means or that’s ur priorities. You think bcus u drive a car of less than five or seven years u are exempted from road crashes? Or the FG will call you and pay you? Whatever car we go for is based on our income and priorities. We all started from the scratch, no one was born and became rich over night. A process was involved in this growth.
I still want to remind us that, whatever kind of car we drive can never win us a ticket to heaven. We shouldn’t buy cars to impress people. Anyone who mocks you about the age of ur car is on his own and doesn’t have work to do.
Lastly, I want to implore us to respect people’s option. For one to come and seek your advice means such an individual has made up his mind for the car brand. All he’s asking is, which model among the brand will fit him. Let us fight less and enjoy God’s given grace.
Regards.
