This are NA ‘Combat unit, Fighting with motorcycle’. A recently re-modelled version of locally available civilian motorcycles which can be armed with an AK-47 or a light machine gun. It carries two soldiers and was designed to support hot-pursuit operations against criminals in the North West/central.

Personally i am not aware of any such general beliefs

Country A can have all the AESA and country B with PESA will still win the war since having
AESA is not enough the quality of the AESA is important eg if the AESA radars have low MTBF than its downtime will be more

Same as country A can have superior fighters on paper and still lose the air war bec its sortie generation rate per day is lower than the supposed inferior fighters with country B

Its not even the collection of whole system available the military at that time, its more than that , near impossible to summarise every aspect

Tactics is part of every weapon system which helps to enable it but than there is also something call luck however rare , how does one include it

End of the day its best not to compare . why do i always say not to compare ?

Those in the business will never compare without having access to corresponding technical data which in the first place will be classified

Long story short non technical comparison is the exclusive domain of armchair analists, keyboard warriors

Best is not to look at all , far or close wont make any difference IMO

You are on point.

The SU35 is practically an AWAC. It uses PESA radar and can detect aerial targets 400km away and engage the enemy 300km away.

How many fighter jets with AESA radar can give that advantage?

The Luck part is also very important.

A F117 stealth aircraft got shot down by old SA-3 SAM isnt it ?

End of the day any aircraft is vulnerable provided systems are capable enough and at the right place at the right time with the right tactics etc

Only armchair analists believe in the so called invulnerability

Heck a farmer with a hunting rifle shot down a apache with a single bullet lol

Eg USA strives for full EM spectrum control of hostile airspace post and pre aerial deployment of assets for both kinetic and non kinetic effect , even than there are instances of vulnerability

Only few countries have assets to try to take control of EM spectrum either on ground or through air

For me it's about the collection of whole system available to the military at that time.

When country A have aircraft with AESA radar and country B with PESA radar, the general believe is country A would win any confrontation with country B without thinking out of the box. What happens if county B have AWAC? What of pilots training and tactics, Area of engagement, what of the flaws and gains of individual weapons carried, etc.

Argentines showed the British what tactics is all about. Technology is a good thing to have but in real war it's about taking advantage with whatever you have.

I just prefer looking at everyone from far.

Listen carefully and don't misunderstand me.

I said, any SAM can easily track and destroy any aircraft on a one on one basis, provided the aircraft doesn't destroy it first. In other words, no aircraft can evade ground radar systems. Of course the F22's signature would buy her more time and through advanced radars and warning from other sources, it is very unlikely that a common SAM will destroy it. But for JF17 2, a standard SAM will likely take it out.

You should just stop commenting on the current discussion. You just dey mess anyhow and the mess don dey smell.

Imagine the very small strike squad that was equipped and managed by a South African war lord. How much impact they made back during GEJ. Now compare that to the whole frigging south African military. Bunch of evolution favored bad asses whose balls where never meant to be left dangling cus of the sheer weight of it.

I am not here to glorify another man's military I am here to say that we are not there yet. We have a lot to learn from the Southies. It is not a bad thing to accept that the Southies and the Algerians even the Ethiopians are a military power houses in Africa. While Nigeria struggles with managing small poorly equipped militias within its territory.

While Nigeria is buying Tucanos to chase around terrorist in a noisy and antiquated ww2 manner. Giving them more rooms to practice their plane downing skills. Algeria on the other hand is placing orders for 5th generation jet fighters that will defend its territory...

Stop saying rubbish.

I wonder how you people believe 100+ men gave the victory we got before 2015 election.

The war was largely fought by the Nigerian military. A lot of our SF came back during that period from different countries in thousands and you decide to give the glory to a man that controlled just 100+ men over a territory as large as some countries.

At least we now have them in Mozambique. The whole world would see their black ass.

There is a place for JF17 Block 3.
For the Block 2, it is always going to be a transitory role. The only threat area that the JF17 Block 2 is closing is naval threats from the gulf of Guinea area. The capability that closes that gap is JF17 Block 2 launching C802 missiles to take out enemy ships
There is not much threat northwards that 3 to 6 units of JF17 Block 2 and upgraded F7s cannot handle
In 2025, theNAF can stock up 2 squadrons of JF17 Block 3. AESA radar is everything now.
How many countries do you think have this AESA radar? How many countries can boast of it and what percentage of their fighters use AESA radar?

KC-390 was inspected by our former minister of defence when he was invited to Brazil.

However Jet engine transport planes seem to me like a more expensive proposition than propeller driven transport aircrafts.

I think the C-130J should be our target, considering we have experience flying the C-130 already, there is manpower on the ground to fly & maintain the aircraft.

I would only consider the KC-390 when Air Peace finish building their MRO facility. They are the largest user of Embrear aircrafts in Africa.

C-295 was also offered to Nigeria through the Air Force, former CAS, S.B Abubakar said he was going to move the proposal up the chain for approval at that time, but we have heard nothing since then.

We need additional MI-17s for real, with these new fighter aircrafts, A-29 , CH-4 & M-346FA, do you think NAF would still purchase additional Attack Helicopters? I don't see that possibility.

I really have doubts about additional JF-17s, but we would have to wait & see.

Nigerian navy has gotten approval to purchase 2 additional OPVs.

As for the Frigate, the Navy said they would lobby to get funding to buy a replacement for Aradu, no funding received yet.

They also said when the LST is delivered, they would place order for an additional unit.

For me, I would prefer NN get a minimum of 1 Frigate & 2 Corvettes.

However let's see how things progress.

You are on point about the KC-390 but few of them will still be appreciated.

I don't see NAF buying additional attack helicopters. Except they are getting the remaining 7 MI35m. That is because of NA Aviation coming up and it seems something big is coming out of that unit soon.

The Air force will focus more on fixed wing aircraft for attack role while army will focus more on dedicated Attack helicopters.

I'm really praying for the Navy too. I hope we get good stuff too for the Navy.

I think before NAF goes for any new JF-17s, they most likely go for a Transport plane.

Our C-130s are getting really old.

The air force kept getting funds because they keep proving the war can't be won without them and they will keep getting more.

I wish we can get KC-390 and mi-17 in good numbers. I really think jf-17 will come before transport planes because the deal have reached advanced stage and it will be the only strike role left unattended to.

Transport aircrafts are also on the pipeline and the likely type that will be bought have been looked into ( KC-390, C-295, not sure)

I feel sorry for the navy sha but buying 1 frigate, 1 LST, 1 hydrographic ship, etc is crazy to me but when it comes to patrol boats you will see 300+. I wish they can prove why they are important.

Single engined JF17 is a misfit for the role you are ascribing to it. Nigeria may only by JF17 Block 3 in appreciable nos. I don't see much of a future Block 2.

Single engine F16 or single engine gripen E/F or the single engine J10 will fit am sure.

JF-17 has it role to play and that role can only be fill best by a single engine multirole fighter jet. It's very normal for NAF to go for the latest block available.

Advance trainer aircraft can't fill the role of a multirole fighter jet even if it has 4 engines.

I still don't see how the procurement of m346 means JF17 is not giving satisfactory performance.

They are not meant for the same role. We all knew the procurement for both aircraft were in the pipeline already.

M346FA is needed just as the JF-17 is also needed. It's left for air force to determine which is more urgent due to lack of funds.

It was always going to happen when you put a decent radar in a LIFT, add capability to fire AA missiles, two engines and ordnance capacity above 2500kg. I think M346 FA is more than just Alpha Jet replacement.
It's GRIFO346 radar can see > 90km

That makes it one of the best if not the best aircraft for LIFT.

BUT definitely not in the same league with JF-17 thunder

JF-17 thunder can track targets > 110+km
Can carry cruise missile
Anti-ship missiles
Air to Air missiles
several air to surface missiles
Different varieties of guided and unguided bomb
Carry heavier weapons at greater speed. Block 3 is not even what we talk about.

If I may ask, what do we need these for? The A29s can perform the role of this aircraft.

M346, JF17 thunder and tucanos are all different aircrafts with different roles.

M346 is a good replacement for Alpha jets will be used for LIFT and light attack

JF-17 thunder light multirole fighter jet

Tucanos for COIN operations and ISR mainly.

The good thing is that these guys are bringing new capabilities to the Nigerian Air force in their various ways.

Truth is we need all of them.

A few things to set the scene:
Sala da Paz is an NGO funded by and close to the governing party FRELIMO. So it carries some credibility, in as far as government sources and thinking is concerned.

On to the claim, the FADM (MOZ Army) generals are saying Rwandans are claiming credit for:
1) joint actions with the Moz Army as being Rwanda alone;
2) inflating the numbers killed; and
3) not acknowledging that some towns were taken without a fight, after the insurgents simply melted away into the bush.

I personally am less concerned with the veracity of the claims. Far dangerous, down the line, is what this reveals about the continuing internal fights within the upper echelons of the Moz govt, ruling party and security services.

That is Chad in the case of Nigeria.

I think we would first look at the globally accepted parameter which is used to classify 5th Gen.

Then we can measure if this aircraft fits into the bill or not.

Who set the parameters first of all?

That one no concern Russia. They might even have better parameters. Even China is not building theirs to fill such requirements.

Every nation knows what's best for them.

But What change will this Super Tucano bring in this terrain. What are the advantages over the normal jets NAF have been using in this combat.

A lot have been said about the capabilities of the super tucano already but just imagine an aircraft that can give support to ground troops for up to 5+ hours before refueling is required.

Doesn't really need ISR platform to give coordinates/guidance cos it can serve as ISR and take enemies out immediately without waiting for other jets to arrive.

Most importantly, it carries some of the most advanced weapons in the world. Accuracy of the weapon will also be a game changer.

Their are other capabilities that makes it better to use for COIN operation like slower speed, day and night visibility, cost of operation, weapons can be fired from greater distance, etc.

We are happy cos we expect a lot to change just like the MI35m changed a lot of things when it arrived too.

I no get strength for argument jawe.

At some point in 2014 BOKO HARAM was considered the second deadliest terrorist group in the world after ISIS.

How do you think Nigeria managed a group that was said to be more deadly than Taliban few years ago?

Terrorist gets more powerful if they are not properly managed and their power and influence reduces if properly managed.

Today Talibans are suddenly more powerful than almost every terrorist group.

Your post IMO makes no sense it's irreverent and takes matters out of context.

What is the relevance of domestic crime in the USA to the insurgency in the NE

The Taliban have budget and access to finance that exceeds many states put together in Nigeria.

They make billions from illicit drugs they get $billions in funding from Qatar, indeed they have an Embassy of sorts in Doa.

In addition Pakistan has given huge amounts of military and infrastructure support to the Taliban and created a safe haven for them. You should know they share a common border.

Your post is more senseless because it is without substance and is not anchored anything beyond sentiment and prejudice based preference.

I will give one example of comparison efficacy between the USA and Nigeria.

Just one US citizen, Mr Philip Walton, not two or three or even hundreds of citizens. Was kidnapped by bandits ( militants to me) and taken to Sokoto state.

Within hours of his location being ascertained Seal team 6, night time mission, great stealth helicopters, drones, etc all kidnappers smoked and Philip was on his way home. That was right in our backyard.

Now compare the response of our security infrastructure to the almost daily kidnap of citizens in the North. We even descended to dialogue with militant bandits.

I rest my case.

I wish I had the time to respond to your post.

If you are talking of support from Qatar and Pakistan. What happens to support from Britain, France,Canada , Australia etc. How many billions of dollars went down from their own end? Can you even compare Qatar's donation with what US spent? Did they get support from the government too? What about the tech, and abundant equipment they got.

Pakistan providing safe heaven for terrorist is another funny thing I don't want to go into because US messed up big-time in Pakistan killing innocent civilians with the little opportunity they got.

The US citizen was not just an ordinary citizen bro. Go online and see how US police kill their citizens even on their home soil not to talk of others killed by misuse of firearms.

See Nigeria have challenges but don't make it look like US is heaven.

I don't really have time to explain anything cos am really busy.
