the military is not making them irrelevant.
it is the police force that has refused to perform it duty as suppose

My brother there is hardly money for patrol vehicles not to talk of maintenance/fueling. What happens to equipment, training, operational expenses, etc. Will they use their salaries to protect civilian.

The last time my car was stolen, I went to the nearest police station which was maitama and the policeman in charge asked me to buy credit to recharge in order to call other units. To tell you how bad the situation is within the force. It happened right in side the station.

The military picked up the role of the police and got extra funding. You will even see them with better patrol vehicles and no issue with black market operator in the area. The one that surprises me most is the air force personnels mounting road blocks. The truth is army is army and police is police. Police just need manpower, better training and funding and they will do the needful.

You have valid points here but...... Don't you think a decentralized police force(I know state police has disadvantages but it still has lots of VALID advantages too) would reduce the handicap of the NPF?
Secondly, is the NPF really doing their job or are the more interested in bribe collection and VIP protection? Is the situation where the army responds to armed robbery, kidnapping, BOKO HARAM, drug smuggling...even VIP protection acceptable? Are customs, immigration, NDLEA. civil defence etc actually doing their jobs to the best of their capabilities? I don't think so.

We are having a problem of low manpower but..... Let those with jobs do the jobs they are being paid to do properly first....... Then we talk of their equipment, condition of service, political interference then decentralize the NPF before we look at employing more people.

My humble opinion sha.

For a country with the kind of population we have should have federal, state and community policing in order to be effective.

If the policing structure is effective am sure we would hardly even remember the military.

For you to know the police can never be effective just study Nigerian budget over the last 15 years and tell me if you can make any difference with it.

The military killed the police force back then in the 70s and they are still trying to make police irrelevant even in mordern days. This is why sometimes I don't pity them.

First the root of the problem need solution.

Security Manpower in Nigeria

NCS 17,277
FRSC 20,000
NDLEA 5,300 (unsure)
NPS 27,992
NIS 21,357
NSCDC 40,000
NPF 370,000
NN 20,000
NAF 15,000
NA 162,000
DSS + DIA + NIA 5,500
*Total = 698,926 security personnel*

*Population = 201,989,640 Million (estimate)*

DailyTrust.

And we have so many graduates ready to be recruited.

How many DSS operatives will help gather intelligence considering the current security situation in the country.

Even the entire security manpower is less than what we need for police alone.

On Sipri the AW-139 delivered to Nigerian navy is missing, also the 3 helicopters for Nimasa/navy are also missing.

Although the CJ3 maritime patrol aircraft was mentioned.

I am not sure if NIMASA aircraft can be added to navy inventory.

According to Sipri arms transfer for 2021, Nigeria received/ will receive the following;

- 12 Super Tucanos

- 3 SH-2 (122mm)

- 2 SH-5 (105mm)

- 6 units of VT4

- 6 units of ZTL-09

- 2 CH-3

- 4 CH-4

- 2 Wing Loong-2

- 2 FPB-100

- 1 FPB-72

- 6 A109k ( 4 delivered)

- 2 FCS-3307

- 1 LST-100

- 3 JF-17 Thunder

- 300 9M114 Anti-Tank missiles for MI-35M

- 12 units of MI-35M (7 units delivered)

- 3 units of Marauder MRAPs

- 5 units of KLTV-181

- 8 units of Phantom-2

- 2 units of Citation-3 maritime patrol aircraft

- 400 units of APKWS anti tank missiles for Tucano

I find the acquisition to be quite underwhelming and uninspiring, especially for the Nigerian army.

We pick one here and we pick one there.

Notably missing is NNS Lana, and the C-falcon boats.

MI-35M is 18 remaining to be delivered ( see attachment). Probably additional 12 orders have been made.

M346 also on pipeline.

6 Mi-17 on order

Was unable to add the file but check flight international.

When last did you get a press release from the DSS with suspects been arrested, tracked down or killed?, they are neck deep in politics while the security runs aground.. Please we should be matured enough to counter with facts or look and pass undecided

PR is what makes DSS glorious? For me that was the period DSS operatives were moving around in maiduguri with camouflage and land cruiser jeeps forming big boys with our money under the protection of soldiers.

If only you know how much I hate that period you just mentioned. Even getting timely intel on Abuja was a big deal.

My major challenge with these rumours is, how do you hide a purchase of a ship, Frigate or Corvette?

The only new ships apart from the confirmed LST and NNS Lana I know are a brief mention of an OPV purchase by Thisday newspapers and a possible new order for a new ship from Navy monthly.

Now for the statement from the lawmaker, we cannot afford US ships, they will also not sell to us, except in the event they are transferring a decommissioned ship, Nigeria has never bought a ship from America before, so why now all of a sudden?

This rules out America.

Germany is also out of it for me because when you place an order for military equipment from Germany, 90% of the time that contract is made public. Germany is not Israel.

It's easy to do those hide, hide deals in many countries apart from Germany, and the US.

All the same, I'll be very delighted if we get new ships from either Germany or the US, but I find it unlikely.

You're very right bro.

Only decommissioned ships comes from US.

I wonder how my country do this thing in this mordern age.

Beegeagle likes to speculate, and most of the time his speculations are wrong.

I don't think anybody knows what we are getting from Germany, it could be engines for the LST, it could also be a new vessel, it could also still be nothing.

But Beegeagle sourced his comment from this statement.

GAGDI ON FOREIGN OVERSIGHT DUTY, INSPECTS LST 100 WARSHIP OF THE NIGERIAN NAVY IN AJMAN STATE OF THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATE.

In pursuance of his legislative function to oversee activities of the Nigerian Navy, and his innate desire for a robust Navy and improved security of Nigerian waterways, the Chairman House of Representatives Committee on Navy, Rt Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi was in Ajman State of United Arab Emirate to inspect a Warship of the Nigerian Navy under construction by Albwarsdy Damen, a reputable warship Construction Company in the UAE.

The lawmaker, who inspected the multimillion dollar project, was taken round the facilities of the company in order to further appreciate the technical competence of the company to deliver the project.

Tagged LST 100 Warship, the project is expected to be completed on the 18th May, 2021 and be delivered to the Nigerian Navy on 9th March, 2022. The project was at 75 percent completion when the parliamentarian inspected the Warship. Meanwhile, the company has assured of a timely delivery of the Warship in accordance with the terms of the contract without let or hindrance of any kind.

The essence of the foreign oversight inspection of the facility was to ensure finances appropriated for the Nigerian Navy are expended as provided in the budgetary allocation of the armed force.

Expressing delight with the quality of the project, the lawmaker maintains that Nigerian Navy has been one of the most vibrant armed forces in Nigeria, with a near excellent performance record; hence the need to encourage them with the required facilities for optimal discharge of their responsibilities.

The lawmaker had earlier in 2020, led his committee members to oversight visit of all Naval formations across Nigeria in order to be fully abreast with the successes, challenges and future projections of the Nigerian Navy, thereby capping the oversight duty with visits to various ongoing projects of the armed force outside the shores of Nigeria.

Foreign oversight visits to other projects of the Nigerian Navy in the US, Germany, South Africa and UK are in the offing.

Gagdi is expected to be back in the country on Friday, 8th January 2021.

Signed:
Gagdi Media Team

There are rumors of NN getting a ship from Germany but the funny thing is that no one as ever mentioned the type/class of the ship .

Well I like the way you discard rumors until something concrete shows up. But to be sincere with ourselves, Nigerian lawmakers can't go to Germany and US for site visit even if they are supplying parts for the LST because that contract is not between NN and the suppliers.

Let's assume Germany is supplying engine for the LST what will US be supplying?

Nigeria Confronts Second Mass Kidnapping Of Schoolchildren In Nine Days - WASHINGTON POST

FEBRUARY 26, 2021

By Danielle Paquette
and
Ibrahim Garba

ABUJA, Nigeria — Gunmen raided a boarding school in northwestern Nigeria early Friday and kidnapped hundreds of girls, marking the third mass abduction of children since December in Africa's most populous nation.

The assailants struck the Government Girls Secondary School in Zamfara state in a predawn ambush, teachers and residents said, waking up the town as shots rang out.

By daylight Friday, community members continued to tally the missing — it remained unclear how many girls were forced into the nearby woods — while security forces scoured the area, which has been plagued by kidnappings in recent months.

No one has asserted responsibility for the attack, but criminal gangs known as “bandits” are increasingly seizing groups for ransom — a menace that has prompted some Nigerians to call for a national state of emergency.

The latest high-profile targets across the country’s north: Schoolchildren.

One of the girls’ guardians, Saidu Kwairo, said he watched from his window as pickup trucks roared into the town of Jangebe. The gunmen were firing their weapons into the air.

“We could hear the helpless voices of the girls screaming,” he said, “amid the sounds of dangerous rifles.”

The kidnapping comes less than two weeks after attackers stormed another boarding school in north-central Nigeria, abducting more than 40 people, including 27 students. The Niger state victims all remain in captivity as authorities attempt to negotiate their release.

Taking hostages is a growing business in the country.

Between 2011 and 2020, Nigerians paid at least $18 million to liberate themselves or loved ones, according to a report from SB Morgen, a consulting firm that crunched data from open sources.

Sixty percent of that amount was spent in the last half of that time frame, reflecting a troubling acceleration, the authors noted.

Kidnappers formerly focused on wealthy people or foreigners — targets that dangled bigger rewards. Over the last three years, though, the pattern has shifted: Practically anyone can be ripped out of their dwellings or off the streets in a string of northern states. Gunmen have even stopped public buses.

“Bandits have realized that the authorities cannot protect the people,” said Isa Sanusi, spokesman for Amnesty International in the Nigerian capital, Abuja. “That is lucrative. Ordinary people will give up all they have to save their families.”

Striking boarding schools in poor areas is seen as a savvy financial move.

“The schools are almost always in a squalid state without much fencing,” Sanusi said. “Kidnapping the children gets them worldwide publicity, and governments are always looking for a quick way of rescuing them. Ransom payments are one of the only options.”

In December, Boko Haram claimed responsibility for capturing more than 300 boys from a school in the northwestern state of Katsina. The classmates were released days later under murky circumstances. Officials rarely say how they negotiate the abductees’ freedom.

The extremist group garnered notoriety for kidnapping more than 270 school girls from the town of Chibok in 2014, sparking a viral social media campaign calling for their safe return: #BringBackOurGirls. More than 100 are still missing.

Although Boko Haram normally operates in the country’s northeast, analysts say gang members hundreds of miles away maintain relationships with fighters. The group has killed at least 36,000 people and displaced millions over the past decade from its stronghold in the Lake Chad Basin.

Authorities are not sure if the recent abductions were carried out by co-conspirators or copycats.

Nigeria’s defense minister, Bashir Salihi Magashi, set off outrage earlier this month after advising people not to “be cowards” and defend themselves against kidnappers.

“In our younger days, we stand to fight any aggression coming for us,” the retired army major general said in a statement. “I don’t know why people are running from minor things like that.”

But in Jangebe early Friday, residents said they feared for their lives.

The eruption of gunfire seemed intentional, several said. Perhaps the attackers wanted people to hide inside their homes.

No one had the arms to strike back.

“We thought they had come to attack residents as they usually do, but this time, unfortunately, they aimed at the students,” said a neighbor, 52-year-old Bello Maikusa Jangebe, who was startled awake by the sound of bullets. “We’ve noticed that only a few of the students were left behind.”

Garba reported from Kano, Nigeria. Ismail Alfa in Maidurguri, Nigeria, contributed to this report

CGTN Reporter was there and the report was that total population of students in the school was about 450 and after the headcount they can't account for about 300 students.

Nigerian media houses that can't even pay reports and depend on fabricated news will never change their ways.

Why will 300 suddenly turn to 600 if not because some media houses have hidden motives.

Bestman2021:
It was a Nissan Murano 2005 SUV. I bought the car for 700k.

The fan belt cut thrice on its journey. Estimated journey of 6 hours took 12 hours.

When it arrived, I took it to a mechanic to change all the fan belts. It was done.

After that, I noticed the throttle could not accelerate the car. The car drags slowly and cannot climb the culvert in front of my house.

I started looking for a Nissan specialist. There was none in my state. I settled for a mechanic that had high recommendation from colleagues and friends. We changed the fuel pump, the air flow meter, the spark plugs, installed a new alternator, and and a new Korean battery 75amp.

The thruttle wasn't still working. You'd have to press the thruttle to the floor of the car before the car will start rolling.

We scanned the car and it threw up several codes.

I made enquiries and hired a mechanic from Osogbo coz they said he's good. He made estimate of things to change and took 120k to get to work.

It's a common problem with Murano. You shouldn't have bought it since you don't know about Nissan and you also don't have a mechanic that understand the car.

The car have problem with a sensor (Airflow meter) or it could be the exhaust that is blocked. The funny part is you hardly fine new sensors and the old one you buy might also be faulty. You have to keep changing it till you get a good one.

I use a Murano and Nissan Altima. I will tell you to Never use a mechanic that specializes in toyata or honda. You will keep spending money and even spoil the car more.

Nissan is a very strong car and I've been using mine for almost 10 years now. It was really rough at first but with time I got people who understands them

It is the other way round
IF an officer RC 33 becomes COAS then officers ranging from RC29-33 will be suspect to Retirement pending two crucial details,
1) At the President's discretion who may decide one of them will be promoted to CD hiS that happened with the New CDS
2) Most COAS will keep a couple of his course mates that he is familiar with their abilities around because their is a certain level of comfort knowing who is competent and who is incompetent again those will be his RC33.
Rc34, 35 ,36,37 are in no danger of being retired because of a new inaugurated COAS
LT.GEN K.T. Minimah acknowledged himself at he time he was made COAS He was one of the most senior Maj.Gen . He was one of Ten. He got promoted the other (cool did not and were made to retire . The one who did got promoted to LT. GEN ( I believe his name was OBI) because he was appointed to serve in the UN as a commander and the designated post required the Rank of A 3- STAR GEN
LT. Ihejirika
He was coursemates with the current SULTAN OF SOKOTO
He admitted during the course of his career at the rank of LT. Col he got held back while his RC got promoted to the rank of COL. This wrinkle would show up when he was made the COAS, as he himself explained when eventually got made a Major . General he was one of the most senior Army officers in the ranks .
Soon to be LT. Gen Irabor is one of the most senior officers in the NA He cannot become a junior the Major .General ATTAHIRU.

Irabor will be 4 star general while Atahiru will be Lt. Gen

The simple truth is your juniors can't command you so you have to leave the force.

Even those in service know there seniors even if they happen to be on the same rank. That's why you see major-generals salute another major-general. A good example is the case of Irabor and Atahiru or Buratai and Adeosun who were both Lt. Generals.

They don't joke with seniority.
