Career / Tech Job Or U.K Fully Funded Scholarship by Iboyx: 8:42am On Aug 05, 2023 |
Hi guys, So I'll keep this as short as possible hoping to get your advice.
So I landed a software engineer role in one of the most popular fintechs in Africa, a remote role and it pays about 200k for a start.
I also have a fully funded scholarship to the UK(biological sciences) with stipends of about 900£ monthly but you must come back to Ng if at the end of the programme you do not already have a job.
I know that all things being equal in the software job in a couple of years say 3 years I should be able to triple that amount, I know guys that have done similar.
The risk of going to the UK is being stranded at the end of the programme. Worst part is the msc is not in the I.T industry. I know guys that have picked up second msc degrees cause of no job and they don't want to come back
I'm very passionate about the IT industry, I literally thought my self
What do you guys advice.ooking forward to your input. Thank you 10 Likes 1 Share |

you are displaying entitlement. there are people with the requirements, why should they lower their standards for you. If you want to employ a driver will you employ a learner driver because driving school was closed? We are talking of professional institution (Nerc) and graduate u are talking of driver... do u know who a graduate is at all? AGAIN DONT BE INSENSITIVE,,,. Are u telling me there are no positions for fresh graduates? .... The most high flying institutions in the world today go into schools to persuade fresh graduates to come work and learn from them....giving the young opportunities and giving themselves(the institution) opportunities to "catch them young"... I just hope this system does find a way to reward people like you and put u in critical position... if not we are in for another buhari if not worse..... If the HR of Nerc cannot find a way to recruit fresh graduates and fit them in then they have failed. 1 Like |

Dont be annoyed but all that one is story. Now you understand the impact of bad governments in your lives and future. I dont mean to sound harsh or brutal but welcome to the real world!!! Nobody is going to care about your personal circumstances, an employer needs a graduate with 9 years experience aged 30-32, hundreds will apply, your application will most likely never be looked at because once they see your age or years of experience they will discard it and if it is a digital application and they are using HR software, the software will discard your application and not shortlist it. it is only if they dont have applicants that they will start to look therough those who dont meet the requirements but in a country where there are no jobs, that is unlikely...... thats the reality of recruitment and the job market. So instead of complaining, try and make up for your deficiencies, nobody cares it it was your fault or not. You dont meet the requirements, you dont meet the requirements.
i am not being insensitive, i am telling you the hard realities of life!!! You seem to have a sense of entitlement. If any1 has any sense of entitlement that's u... Well I don't blame u at all....I know the reality but the truth is the truth..... Its crazy to ask for such requirements knowing the situation in Nigeria..... I doubt any sane climb puts age requirements as a means to filter down applicants. God Da and we go make am sooner rather than later... with or without white color jobs very legally..... DONT BE INSENSITIVE... Remember same way it was easy to climb up same way its easy to fall down... |

clearly you are not qualified for the job. if you are a graduate and you actually got a quality education, you will realize that if you have 9 years experience you will be at least 30. There is nothing illegal is asking for a certain number of years of experience.
Young Nigerians should realise no one owes you a job and an employer has a right to dictate the requirements for any position he wants to recruit. The employer knows the role and what qualifications/experience will satisfy the role.
It is incumbent on young Nigerians to know the job market is very competitive, you are competing with people who studied abroad that graduated at 20-23 and went straight to work. It is up to you to make sure you dont waste your youth....again no one owes you a job!!! Oga i graduated from a federal skul with an excellent grade at 24 due to strike(never had any issues in school)... my school a federal skul posted us for nysc after few months of graduating last last finished nysc 25-26.... now applying for a job from not just any employer (the same federal government) who knows all dis and setting all this requirements.... it is pure wickedness....why didn't da set same requirement For Npower?? Well I'm not surprised is it not the government of Nigeria again, anything is possible.... If ur on same boat with me don't let insensitive comments lyk this deter u, keep hustling don't wait for white color jobs like this,,, remember it is a race to fend for ur self and family. GOD DA, GOD GO BLESS OUR HUSTLE..... if u go find this guy out wherever he is today na through connect. He doesn't know what we are going through |

It still remains the best method because Africans we are naturally stubborn. Compare African and Asian secondary school students to those in the USA and you'll discover when it comes to Maths, English and Science, we outpace them by a huge margin. Go to Japan and China, see how their kids are dealt with if they don't perform well in their studies, it makes them highly competitive, no wonder na dem dey dominate I.T and mathematical fields. Sometimes when I want to hire a new team member, I'll interview 20 black and white Americans only for them to be blown away by the only African candidate or that Raj guy from India. It still amazes me till date. In as much as we outpace them it doesn't necessarily mean it's cause of those punishments. |

jlomz: How are we sure they'll consider OSS this year?
I'm only asking because PTDF's normal Modus operandi is once they've sent out invites to shortlisted candidates, those not considered will be locked out and can't access their accounts.
And moreover, why refuse access to someone when you also plan to invite such later?
Mind you, those that applied for both LSS and OSS, and got the LSS interview invite do access their portal and can view their OSS application (except they're saying I'm wrong, which I doubt).
I'm not trying to put doubts in people's mind sha, just had these thoughts flash through my mind. I only thought to share to see if anyone has info on the plans with OSS, and if it is that they've got no plans for it this year, that people kuku move on to other stuffs.
Happy Eid in advance. One question though Usmanbaro who got the invite for LSS said he can't access his OSS page. |

Happy Eid in advance. I think there should be a publication if there won't be OSS this year. I thought OSS usually comes after LSS, if so may be we should be patient I saw a comment here that it may be next week. One has no choice but to be hopeful 2 Likes |

07kjb: The Nigerian youths brain have been bastardised, everybody is shouting go and learn a skill which they borrowed from our useless leaders.....has it occur to you guys that Nigeria has the highest self employed population in the world yet we are the poorverty capital in the world
Why won't government employ it's own quota, they don't create job, even in the USA today they are still creating millions of job even for immigrants
A government is a circle of public employment, private employment, indirect employment, unskilled then self employed you tax...... shouting there's no job up and down is a lie from the pit of hell.
Finally Africans are naturally dull you can't hold your leaders accountable is a shame
Note: I'm not discouraging not learning any skill, I'm just stating how it ought to be The question is self employed doing what, by the way I'll like to see where dat stat is from by the way after searching what I can see is Chad, Nigeria, Burundi, e.t.c. Not just self employed, self employed doing what are u doing it out of passion or out of survival If the former is the case u will always be thinking how u can expand. If the later is the case ur doing it cause u need to eat. From the list of those countries one will observe those countries are still developing stand to be corrected. |

I think I am the only one asking this question, in my locality, I ask some children attending public schools if they are being fed, the answer is NO! Where I am currently serving it is being done, have a friend who is also serving in akwa ibom and he co firmed its also being done. Infact they make use of corps members for the programme |
Business / Is It Advisable To Start A Cybercafé Business by Iboyx: 1:32pm On Apr 12, 2022 |
So I'm rounding up my nysc and I've been able to gather small cash from my side hustle(web dev). Im thinking of starting a cybercafe, I've done my research on good locations, cost of computers and printers and all that. I feel its cool instead of job hunting or begging, but I'm wondering especially for those who has ventured into this kind of thing is it a buisness that's profitable ? what are the biggest challenges I'm likely to face. Thanks |
