Crime / Afgan Woman Stoned To Death For "Adultery". (pixelated Photo) by ictrepublic: 8:22am On Nov 04, 2015
A young Afghan woman was stoned to death after being accused of adultery, officials said Tuesday, a medieval punishment apparently recorded in a video that harks back to the dark days of Taliban rule.
The 30-second clip run in Afghan media shows a woman in a hole in the ground as turbaned men gather around and hurl stones at her with chilling nonchalance.
The woman, named by officials as Rokhsahana and aged between 19 and 21, is heard repeating the shahada, or Muslim profession of faith, her voice growing increasingly high-pitched as stones strike her with sickening thuds.
The killing took place about a week ago in a Taliban-controlled area just outside Firozkoh, the capital of central Ghor province, officials said, confirming the video which was sourced and released by international broadcaster Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.
"Yes, the footage shown in the media is related to Rokhsahana, who was stoned to death," a spokesman for Ghor's Governor Seema Joyenda said. Joyenda, one of only two female governors in Afghanistan, said Rokhsahana's family had married her off against her will and that she was caught while eloping with another man her age -- seen as tantamount to adultery.
The man was let off with a lashing, Joyenda's spokesman said.

Crime / Husband To Be Jailed For Forcing Wife To Have Sex With 2700 Men by ictrepublic: 4:24am On Oct 23, 2015
A husband 'hired out’ his wife for sex with 2,742 different clients in just four years, a court heard on Thursday.
The 54-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, made the equivalent of more than £5000 a month through the suburban prostitution business.
As his wife, who is 46, welcomed clients, he would sit outside their home in Meaux, north of Paris, in the family car, along with their five-year-old child.
Emmanuel Dupic, prosecutor at the town’s criminal court, said: ‘The husband exercised a psychological power over his wife, preventing her from stopping submitting herself to the sexual needs of customers who were sometimes very tough.’ - Read more about the couple at http://kiakiamedia..com.ng/2015/10/husband-forces-wife-to-have-sex-with.html

Business / Devalue The Naira! IMF Urges Nigeria by ictrepublic: 2:25am On Oct 23, 2015
The IMF is pressing Nigeria to further devalue its currency amid uncertainty over the political and economic outlook for Africa’s biggest oil producer and economy a news agency has reported. The report quoted Antoinette Sayeh, the International Monetary Fund’s Africa Director who had alleged that restrictions placed on 41 items access to foreign exchange was “quite detrimental saying that in Nigerians they “are already making it harder for the average person to buy milk,” at the IMF annual meeting that ended in Peru two weeks ago. But Mrs Antoinette Sayeh openly avoided Nigeria reporters who asked her to name one country in the world that export crude and import refined products. She was also not forth coming when asked to name one country that would import anything that could be produced locally. Her assertion that it was becoming difficult for Nigerians to buy milk in the open market did not go down well with those who are familiar with the Nigerian situation at the Africa region press briefing. - Read more at http://kiakiamedia..com.ng/2015/10/devalue-naira-imf-urges-nigeria.html

Phones / Mobile App That Protects All Your Accounts From Hackers by ictrepublic: 3:29pm On Jul 16, 2015
By some estimates as many as 1 in 4 people claim to have had one of their online accounts hacked.A mobile app (currently Android, with iOS to follow soon) that promises to monitor an array of online accounts for suspicious login or attempted login activity. It is called Logdog and it works in part, by building a profile of your usual log in parameters, such as sign-in locations, times, and device types, and then alerts you of any suspicious activity. It’s then up to you whether or not to change the password for that particular account, ignore the attempt or, in the case of a false-positive, tell LogDog that it was in fact you.
Technically the way the app works is that you give it permission to log in on your behalf to the accounts that you wish to monitor — Facebook, Dropbox, Gmail, Evernote, Yahoo!, and Twitter are supported — and from there it continually monitors those accounts via their own respective activity logs for anything suspicious. - See more at: http://www.ictrepublic.com/2015/07/a-mobile-app-that-keeps-all-your.html#sthash.HXotPYDD.dpuf

Politics / Most State Governors Lack Creativity by ictrepublic: 2:56pm On Jul 15, 2015
It is no longer news that some state governors requested for financial bail-out to pay salaries of their workers from the federal government which has been granted. What most Nigerians don’t know is that most of these governors are not creative and proactive in finding lasting solutions to their so called “Financial problems”.
I am not here to condemn any governor but to make them see governance from another perspective. All governors sit in their respective offices and wait for monthly allocations from the federal government but only few of them think out of the box in generating revenue in their respective states. There are so many ways governors can generate revenue without solely depending on the federal government and these ways (media) will not have adverse effect on the residents of their respective states. So why wait for wait for excess crude account revenue to pay salaries? Why do we need state ministries and workers if they can’t create creative means of generating funds?
Creative Ways of Generating Revenue
1 Through diversification (Making use of the natural resource in your state). The fact is that four states which are Jigawa, Zamfara, Abuja and Kebbi possess less than three mineral resources. All other states have three or more mineral resources. Read more on states and their mineral resources.

Politics / Buhari Is Totally Wrong by ictrepublic: 4:30pm On Jul 14, 2015
The caption above happens to be my view when the news broke yesterday and it is all over today’s dailies. The news is “Federal Government Approves N160 per $1 for Christian Pilgrims”.
The issue of religious sentiments has been in the front burner since I was born. I know some of you reading this piece will not agree with my standpoint. The day Nigerians begin to see religion holistically the better for us. As at the last minute of publishing this write-up, Naira is 198.95 as against one dollar officially but N235 at the black market and just yesterday our president (President Muhammadu Buhari) approved that any Christian who pitches his/her tent with the Christian Pilgrims Board on the holy journey to Jerusalem will get a “subsidy” of N160 to one dollar.
For those who can reason with me, this are my arguments;
1 Who pays for the difference of N38.95 (Do the mathematics).
2 What will happen when Muslims demand the same?

Jobs/Vacancies / Internet Is The Fastest Way To Reduce Unemployment by ictrepublic: 2:13pm On Jun 26, 2015
It is shocking and alarming the rate at which unemployment is thriving in Nigeria and the world at large. The blame game has been ongoing for several decades as to who is responsible for this disgusting cankerworm called “UNEMPLOYMENT”. Many say it is the government, some say it is the system while others say job seekers themselves are responsible for the state they have found themselves.
I am not writing to announce who is right or wrong but to proffer a unique solution that will help both government and society at large. The fastest way to reduce unemployment is the “INTERNET”. This is a statement of fact. Job seekers are not looking at this area rather; they channel all resources and time seeking saturated white collar jobs which are gradually going into extinction.

Celebrities / Michael Jackson's Children Gets $8m Yearly Allowance by ictrepublic: 2:01pm On Jun 26, 2015
Michael Jackson's three teenage children are afforded a reported yearly allowance of $8 million - owing to school tuition, regular vacations and major spending sprees - as the pop legend's fortune continues to generate revenue and increase in royalties, five years after his death.
Since the singer died of drug intoxication in 2009 - when he was said to be $500 million in debt - his estate has ballooned to an estimated $1.5 billion, a portion of that from the 50 million albums that have sold post-posthumously. - See more at: http://kiakiamedia..com/2015/06/michael-jacksons-children-gets-8m.html#sthash.uMM4lfZr.dpuf

Politics / OBAMA To Host Buhari In White House July 20. by ictrepublic: 9:49pm On Jun 25, 2015

US President Barack Obama will welcome his Nigerian counterpart to Washington next month, the White House announced Thursday, a symbolic show of solidarity after the country's first ever democratic transition.
"President Obama will host Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari at the White House," on July 20, the White House said.
The visit will mark "our support for the Nigerian people following their historic democratic elections and peaceful transfer of power," a statement added.
Obama's administration had faced criticism for not planning to visit Nigeria during a two nation Africa tour, also slated for July.
That trip will take in Kenya and Ethiopia, countries which have held highly questioned elections in recent memory.
May elections in Ethiopia resulted in the ruling party gaining all 546 parliamentary seats.
A presidential visit to Kenya had been put on ice while President Uhuru Kenyatta faced charges -- now suspended -- of crimes against humanity for his role in 2007-2008 post-election violence.
Obama and Buhari themselves will have a packed agenda........

Tagging has always been a controversial Facebook feature. When originally introduced, it was beloved—waking up Sunday morning to tag notifications meant you had a great weekend and there was documented evidence. But very quickly we all realized that perhaps photos of our faces weren’t always a good thing. In fact, the fact that Facebook’s engine was learning what we looked like and could suggest inserting our identity into images came with some consequences.
The scope of Facebook’s facial-recognition abilities has been growing, and fast. This week, it was revealed that the network can identify you by far more than just your face. According to New Scientist, Facebook’s artificial intelligence lab is working on an algorithm that can identify people even if their faces are hidden. Things like your hair, your clothes, your body shape, and beyond can give you away - See more at: http://www.ictrepublic.com/2015/06/amazing-facebook-can-now-recognize-your.html#sthash.L3j03Yis.dpuf
