Politics / Re: How Jonathan Defeated Obasanjo by idarakelvin: 1:45pm On Apr 03, 2015 |
Marvin67: I never understood what people meant whenever they said GEJ never loses a battle until I saw the outcome of the elections. The 2015 presidential election wasn't just a battle between GEJ and GMB, it was also a battle between GEJ and OBJ. Everyone who knows Nigeria well, knows that OBJ spent his time in office, trying to create a name for himself in Africa. Eventually, he left office and became one of Africa's most respected former leaders. GEJ however had more issues on his neck while he was Nigeria's president, and I'm sure he almost had no time to think of Africa. But after losing the elections, GEJ performed an act that made him leap frog OBJ to being one of Africa's greatest. His singular act of congratulating the winner, made the whole world and all of Africa respect him. In some quarters he's been described as the father of modern democracy in Nigeria.
Even the APC which I never thought would ever use the name Jonathan and commend in the same sentence has this to say through Alhaji Lai Mohammed by that singular act, which went a long way in dousing post-election tension, the President had snatched victory from the jaws of defeat. It also noted that Jonathan had written his name in gold in the annals of Nigeria’s history and catapulted himself to a statesman.
Also, Mo Ibrahim a man who has never said anything about OBJ had this to say about GEJ; Thank you Mr President. If you are seeking a legacy, you have definitely achieved it.” If GEJ eventually wins the Mo Ibrahim award for 2015, then he'd definitely be smiling all over Africa, far more than OBJ is smiling. When the UN, AU, Commonwealth, etc looks for an African democrat to use an example, they'd definitely use GEJ, while OBJ falls into the category of so many former presidents.
Lastly, as my warri friend said "who God don bless, God don bless, Jona no dey ever lose. Him lose Aso Rock, but him win Africa".

dealslip: All I know us that we Nigerians should stop whipping up sentiments on behalf of our preferred candidate. If violence should erupt after this coming election. They will simple up into their private jets to stronghold they have prepared for themselves, their family and generations unborn while they leave us to tear ourselves up having successfully divided us along religious and ethnic lines. While we are at each others in throat, they will be negotiating with the foreign powers on how to share our resources. Even the militants have private jets to get them out of this country. Our voting power doesn't end at the polls. It should first be activated in our private lives as well by first separating ourselves from their mudslinging which is their ploy to distract us while serious negotiations are going on behind back doors. Various media outlets is being used to manipulate us into thinking we decide what goes on in Nigeria. The forthcoming election is just a struggle between the old cabal and an emerging one. This people have no respect us, see the way they throw recharge cards, noodles, rice and T shirt at us as if that is our immediate need. Litter the whole streets with their election posters. people decide to vote not because they see photo shopped posters but by the work such politicians have done. Don't be used, we are not ignorant of the devices of the enemies.
we as citizens should equally shun corruption; from helping to manipulate figures to rejecting bribe to rejecting gifts from politicians. politicians are not successful in their corruption because they are smart but because we support them through our complacency, ineptitude, selfishness, favouritsm, indiscipline and sometimes laziness. We are the root of corruption, if we can stamp it out of our lives, politics will stop been interesting to them. I believe it is possible to stamp it out but it first starts with me then you. They are not our salvation we are, they are not our messiah we are. Let each man instruct himself first and his household then the change will come, the tribalism and religious sentiments we display was inherited from past generations, let our children inherit love, hard work, respect and integrity from us. It is possible to change Nigeria. |

Revamping the railway system is a step in the right direction but our government has never been good in maintaining it's infrastructures. Corruption has kept us where we are now,all government owned businesses have a short life span because of corruption. Where is nigeria airways, nitel, mtel and a host of others. I understand he's trying to revamp agriculture too, where is our cocoa? Nigeria will not become dubai when we keep recycling leaders and corruption is still entrenched in the system. |
