Car Talk / Re: Enquiry: Cost And Ease Of Modding A 1980s Peugeot 504 Interior. by Ideylook: 11:33pm On Nov 21, 2019 |
Easy to do. I just completed a 504 that now looks like the one in the picture you put here, just a different colour. I left mine completely original and didn’t change a thing. I would leave the exterior, any changes would just look weird. 504’s are great because they were well designed in the beginning and the shape is now so familiar that any external changes would just look odd. The interior seating I would leave the same. The seats are incredibly comfortable. The infotainment system could be a single DIN unit that has an automatic slide up double DIN screen. This would fit in the space provided in the dashboard. These units all come Bluetooth ready and with car play installed. A great stereo system can be easily installed in a 504, easy to configure with heaps of space to do it in. This way there is minimal change to the car. Very easy to also add key fob central locking. Some subtle interior LED lighting could be added. As for performance parts I’m not sure what you mean as that mainly pertains to the engine performance. I rebuilt mine as stock but went through everything. I was lucky as the engine in mine was good when I acquired the car. Either way good luck with the project. Finding a non abused original 504 is not easy but not impossible. Be ready for a lot of work if you buy an aged and abused one. You will have to rebuild It completely if you want it to look fresh and original again. Tips like if you want all the doors to line up like new you must change every door hinge for a new one as these are what make the doors sag. It was a lot of work but the car is beautiful and always draws people to it. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Car Talk / Re: Camry 2007 Model Shakes Badly At 80-100km by Ideylook: 4:18pm On Mar 27, 2019 |
A car will shake at those speeds for a variety of reasons, most of them to do with the wheels, tyres and brakes. In order check the following : Number one culprit is tyres. If a tyre has a slight warp to it, it will make the car shake at those speeds. This tyre warping may not be obvious but should show up when run on a wheel balancing machine. Number two culprit could be a bent wheel rim. Number three culprit could be a bent brake disc Number four culprit could be wheel balancing Of course it could be a combination of one or more of these things so check them all. |

oliverjiad: Surely the value is what is paid for it on the auction site in this case ? the average value of an old car like this that will still need a lot of work is actually between $2000.00 and $4000.00. Its just a basic 6 cyl 280SE. 1 Like |

Car Talk / Re: Why Does Car Car Headlights Change Color After Few Months Use In Nigeria by Ideylook: 9:40am On Jun 13, 2018 |
Part of the reason for this is that there is a lot of dust on the roads in Nigeria. As you drive, this dust in the air hits the headlight lenses and causes abrasion and scratches. It is these many small scratches that trap fine dirt and before you know it your headlights are starting to look "yellow" This process is called "oxidation" At the factory, a (UV) coating is applied to your factory Auto headlight lenses to help protect these newer Poly-carbonate headlight and taillight lenses from the elements as well as the suns harmful (UV) rays. In time this UV coating develops a layer of so-called oxidation over the surface, a combination of oil, dust, road grime and other air-borne contaminants is what the oxidation is made up from and is cooked onto the lenses from the heat of the lights themselves. This is why in most cases I've seen, if a car has turn signal lenses that are separate from the headlight lenses the turn signal lenses will usually have no oxidation build-up at all. The toothpaste solution actually works. Toothpaste is a mild abrasive, so it naturally works well to polish things, including metal and fills small scratches. Just don't use any kind of whitening toothpaste or ones with cooling crystals or anything like that, as they can scratch the surface badly. I used regular toothpaste, and it worked just fine. Use a toothpaste-laden cloth - Firmly rub the surface of your headlights with the toothpaste-laden cloth in small circles. Add water and toothpaste as needed, and expect to spend up to five minutes cleaning each affected light. Rinse - Next, rinse with water and allow to air dry. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Updating this thread, took some time but after looking at quite a few i finally found my 504. As stated originally I was specifically looking for one that drove very well and had a good engine and drivetrain and found one. I was amazed on inspection of the engine to see all new O.E.M service parts and the engine sounded like it had been assembled the day before at PAN. The tyres were new and it drove perfectly. The former owner really looked after these components. Body is a bit battered but thats easy to deal with. It has never been painted before and is all original. I will upload video and pics as soon as i can. Now the task of turning it into a fully refurbished 504 begins 1 Like |
Car Talk / Re: Does Running The AC In Your Car Use Additional Fuel? by Ideylook: 3:40pm On May 27, 2018 |
Because the A/C in your car system is powered by your engine, it pulls energy from it during operation, which can have an effect on engine performance. You’ve likely noticed your car’s engine RPMs increasing at idle when the compressor kicks on. It does this to offset the power drawn by the air conditioning system. How much power is variable and depends on the car. A small engine will have its power sapped much more by the A/C system than a large engine. On average it is said that an A/C system running will sap up to 10-15% of the engines power. The net result is that the car will use more fuel as it uses more power to offset the A/C to maintain the same revs. 1 Like 1 Share |

Somatic: Somatic - thanks, what I'm trying to specifically find out is if the black plastic panels on the bestline doors and front panels once removed will i be able to have the doors fully panel beaten and painted or if when removed they leave an indentation. I guess they can as they must be standard doors underneath the plastic panels. I know i can change the bumpers and mirrors etc, its just the side panels. i will look for a bestline to inspect 1 Like |

Car Talk / Re: WANTED - Peugeot 504 Saloon by Ideylook: 2:34pm On May 12, 2018 |
Asking all the 504 gurus out there : Can the black plastic lower side panels that run along the doors and front wing panel on a 504 bestline be removed and can the doors and front wing panels then be painted when they are removed ? i am assuming there will be holes that will need filling in. Can the front and rear bumper on a 504 bestline be changed to the older chrome ones and if so can the two front indicators that are inside the bumper on the bestline be relocated into the front panel under the headlights like the older model ? Thanks for all the feedback to come |
