In the spirit of giving back, here is DW POE story:

Booked Emirates and boarded on 3rd May. Meanwhile Emirates told DW that she doesn't need the MEDIF fit forms as she is below 36weeks. DW went with a fit to fly from a private hospital dated a week to her travel date.

Emirates flight was okay as she got a row to herself to sleep both on the dubai and houston legs of the trip. Fast forward to IAH; met with a black CBP:

CBP: Good afternoon, your passport and why are you in US?
DW: (Hands over passport) For childbirth and vacation
CBP: Okay. When is your due date
DW: June 2017
CBP: why come to the US for childbirth?
DW: For better health care (in a tired voice after like 24 hours trip)
CBP:What happened to the healthcare in Nigeria as you were there for 8 months
DW: Nothing, I just want a better health care as recommended by someone I know
CBP: Or are you expecting something to happen to the baby
DW: Nothing is going to happen to my baby
CBP: did you come with foodstuffs? Meat?
DW: Yes, egusi, dried fish, etc No meat
CBP: You didn't declare currency on this paper
DW: cos I don't have up to 10k cash on me
CBP: have you prepaid any bills
DW: hospital and doctor don't accept prepayments
CBP: do u have any family in the US? why this address on your slip?
DW: The address of my host as I'm using a paid accommodation. I don't have anyone in US at the moment.

Stamped in for 6months. I was directed to Agriculture. Bags were scanned but not opened. Na so DW enter America. The funny part was that DW was expecting that the people around the agriculture section would be nice considering she was heavy. They would not even offer a seat not to talk of assisting to lift the bags on the cart. Thank God the queue wasn't too long.

Naija people are nice in their way o, nobody will see a pregnant woman in Nigeria nd not try to fast track the queue for her or offer her a seat.

DW is chilling for the arrival of LO.

@ Chanbaby
on the fee for first visit, was it paid at the doctor's office. I thought the doctor's fee is all inclusive (scan, visits, tests, etc)
Chanbaby:
Just summarize my bill based on the pm I receive. Sorry I missed out the induction and epidural bill

DR Xydas- 1700
HNWMC- 2000 (discharged after 2 days)
Epidural: $650
Induction - $200
Pead Visit - $714 ( had to call several times and battled with them cos initial bill given was $1428). I told them that I'm a self paying patient not insurance and I'm paying the complete money.
First visit- $30
Birth Cert $23 (for 1 copy)
Passport 165
VOA $200

Please a quick one, DW applied for B2 and stated during interview that it is for childbirth....meanwhile B1/B2 is what she has on the VISA. Is it supposed to be stated specifically as "B2" asking just for clarity sake.

Call them to reconfirm. I'm flying Emirates this weekend and I'm 36weeks. Also download their Medif form. All the info is on page 3 of that form. Hope this helps.

When did you confirm this please? Just worried about the new info

chiprettie:

I'm flying with emirate at 35 weeks and some days. I called them and told them my destination which was more Dan 8 hours. I was told to bring along a doctor report and a medical certificate that I'm fit to fly. But once u are at the end of your 36 weeks I'm nt sure they can fly you. The medical certificate is gotten at the airport from port health for 1500 or so.

Thank you for your response, the time interval between the time I will be travelling and that of his is just like 3 weeks, and the deadline for change of exam venue would have passed as at the time I will be travelling (what if, he was denied...not praying for that though) the exam is not written in Nigeria...It is only written in 2 countries in Africa.

KaptainAfrika:

1. Apply separately.
2. If you get the visa, and only when you have travelled, should your husband appear at the embassy for his interview.
3. He should state that he intends to first attend the exams and then later be with you, during your childbirth.
All the best.

I want to apply for visa for childbirth....and DH also want to apply for vacation to write a professional exam in the US and to assist me through the rigours of childbirth. It happens that the date of the exam is close to my EDD and he will be around in the US by then. Do you advise that we apply together for visa or we apply separately? I want to be careful so that I don't get bounced cos of this no social ties thing...and this is our first time, and haven't travelled before.

Please for those who has used Houston Northwest Medical Center, are there any other doctors' bill apart from the normal obstetrics and padriatrician? From my correspondence with the hospital, pathologist and radiologist were mentioned, and the lady doesn't want to give clarification on this.

Abeg, I don't want extra (hidden) charges ooo. the padriatrician bill is already over $1,000 though hospital is cheap, and got a cheap price with a doctor affiliated to the hospital. Some lab tests were mentioned to be part of the package, but she said they will be taken to a licensed pathologist and the bill is separate....Abeg, in this recession period, planning is key.

Please help....

Thanks for the information but...
We like the stress thank you!
smiley smiley smiley lol
That is the point of this thread... so we can learn from others, "stress" ourselves without paying extra for "professional" services... it's a "do it yourself" thread and it's boldly written on the first page!

However, if the "professional" advice can guarantee us PTA, BTA or $10,000 at official rate then even me wey don go US fit reconsider!

Please tell the agency to pay for advert on NL so that people who're interested can link up with them directly.

Thank you again eh.

I also contacted them, but mine is still May/June 2017, the estimated list of the Pediatrician fees was quoted for me. We really need a first hand information from those that have used the Hospital.

Which doctor is that please? I am yet to contact a doctor.

DerinDee:
Hello all..this is my first time on nairn land. grin Happy to be on board. Please I would really love info from.someone (or if you know anyone) who has used Houston northwest medical centre. I've found a doctor whose fee is 1700 and the hospital is 2000 for vaginal delivery. But don't have an idea of pediatrician fees

Please I would love to get any information especially with regards pediatrician fees and also cost and time frame in getting baby's documents. Thank you so much.

What are the actions to take now, and the milestones to plan for? When does she need to start contacting a doctor in the US?

Will they ask for all the budget spread thing and account statement if we apply for VISA now? As we don't have enough money that will cater for the total birth fees now
TOKNOW:

If you read through this thread, you will know that the best thing to do is never to conceal the pregnancy, make sure you tell them at the embassy that you are going for childbirth. It does not matter if she has travelled before or not, just read through to know what are required. It is also a good option to apply now for the visa, so that even if denied ( I do not pray so) you would have enough time to reapply.
Travel / Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 4 by idonhear: 2:39pm On Oct 14, 2016
I am also thinking if we can apply for VISA before the pregnancy becomes so obvious...what do you think?

Hi peeps!!!

My wife is just 4 weeks pregnant, this is our first. I wish she delivers the baby in the US. A friend recommended that I follow this tread. She hasn't travelled out before, kindly advise on what step to take (to include when to apply for VISA).

Thank you
