BluntCrazeMan: Question: did you have to have any forms (or passport photos on forms) stamped by a bank, before submitting the form? |

Apologies as I think this has been thrashed here before, but as I'm late to the party I'll throw it out: apart from a bank to bank transfer, what are other ways, if any, of transferring money directly to a Nigerian bank account? Thanks. |

To everyone who answered my question about sending airtime, thanks; much appreciated. |

Question- is WorldRemit a good way of sending airtime for a person’s phone to Nigeria? Or is there a more recommended way of doing so? Thanks. |

Sodiano: It seems you are about to enter into some sort of arrangement with an agent who has promised to get you a visa to Canada for unskilled work. The truth is, you are about to be scammed. There are a number of threads in the travel section on traveling to Canada. You can read through and ask questions and learn the ropes by yourself. The official Canadian government immigration website, cic.gc.ca, will also tell you exactly what you need to do, so that you can do everything yourself as long as you qualify. It’ll be best for you to ask lots of questions and do lots of research by yourself about traveling, before you give away your money. You may find that Canada is not a viable option for you right now, given your circumstances, but that there are other good options which would work for you (e.g., scholarships for studying in other countries, etc.). In sum, please take your time and do not lose your money. That unskilled Canadian job offer is definitely a scam. Ask questions, search the web, and read through the travel section. All the best. 4 Likes |

Please accept sincere condolences for your loss. If you can give a rough idea what sort of help you are looking for, that might help relevant readers get a sense of whether or not they have the ability to step in. Is it with respect to things like temporary care of the two children he had custody of, or funeral processes, etc? Also, if you have a number or email which people can reach for more information, perhaps mention it briefly and then delete it. |

travelland: Just to add, absolutely nothing wrong with putting in temp or part- time hours even alongside a full time job. Some P/T work pays surprisingly well, e.g., teaching once a week all year at a uni could gross you +30 grand. Even an extra 100 every weekend for retail work adds up over the year. Stick it in your retirement fund, pay down your mortgage, stock up your savings, etc. Move yourself ahead. Every dollar counts. 39 Likes 8 Shares |

Lexsuave: Check their website. If it’s not possible now, do it when you arrive. It’s worth casting your net wide: Amazon, grocery stores and the like (such as food / grocery delivery services like Instacart; etc.) are all facing high temp labour needs, and will be for at least the next few weeks. Check company websites, temp agencies, go to stores, etc. Note that their supply chains (the guys who actually make the high demand items, or package them, or transport them to the stores and warehouses) are also facing the same increased labor demand. That could be another option as well. |

For anyone with time on their hands, or looking for some extra cash, Amazon is hiring, to deal with the high demand... 8 Likes |

dtush: An entry point into IT for non IT auditors is typically the GRC space (Governance, Risk and Compliance), a subset of Cybersecurity. One pathway: Start in the audit area you are experienced in (financial, operational, etc), public firm (big 4 preferably; helps you stand out; facilitates entry to industry) or industry (multinational preferably; more likely to have IT auditors; more scope for getting where you want, great for your resume). Get CISA, CISM done. AddIng in CISSP will help you go far in GRC and Cybersecurity. Build rapport and credibility within your team, with your team lead, with the IT area. In other words, do a crazy good job at everything and do it with courtesy, professionalism, diplomacy and a good attitude. Take on any available IT aspects of your audit scope, which will be basic but nevertheless help you build knowledge and start building skill set. Introduce yourself to the CIO and CISO. Do a great job whenever you interface with them. However, respect the org structure. Don’t go over your own boss’ head or behind his/her back. Don’t let your boss hear from the CIO about your career goals. Also, don’t start talking about your gray eagerness to switch teams from day one. Your boss hired you for his / her team. Build credibility first, and your boss will support you, because if you go far, they will also look good. As you do your job, look for opportunities to either do secondments in IT/ GRC, or with the IT auditors, or put forward that kind of suggestion to your team. If you can make an internal move, that will likely be an easier entree than applying externally. Keep talking about your goals and the exams you’ve passed, so that the right people know (remember, you do the talking at the right time, to the right people). Keep doing a great job on your projects and most of all, keep being a great person to work with. You don’t have to be a super skilled, highly experienced IT auditor to start in the GRC space especially since there’ll be an expectation that you’ll be learning constantly in IT anyway. However, if you don’t work well with people, you’ll make it very hard for anyone to take a chance on you and give you that first break. Do a good job, keep pushing and your dream job will find you. All the best. 24 Likes 11 Shares |

Temeetee: On the one hand, It could be nothing. On the other hand, he now has everything he needs to do 'bad things' (e.g., identity fraud) using your data. Given the red flags you already noted (calling out of the blue, history of bid fraud, etc.), you might want to research protecting yourself against such. Get your courage up and tell him you have had other plans come up and wish to withdraw your application; that may prompt more information from him as to whether you are the principal applicant and therefore he cannot withdraw your application. If you start getting requests from him to pay multiple 'fees' in support of the visa issuance, you know what that means. If you decide not to do anything (fear of offending him, etc.) and you eventually hear the visa was denied, insist on getting the GCMS notes to find out exactly what is going on. However, you should ideally take charge of your destiny and take action, long before then; rather than wait for things to 'happen' to you. You will need to know how to do that, to be successful in life long term. 2 Likes 1 Share |
