Politics / Counsel Exposes APC Interference In Metuh's Case by IfeyNeme: 5:16pm On Mar 20, 2018

Revealed: How APC is Lying Against Metuh

By Celestina Aham

It has been exposed that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is pushing undue interest in the trial of the former National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh.

Metuh's counsel had on Tuesday issued a statement detailing undue political interest and interference in the case including attempts to scuttle his treatment abroad.

The statement signed by Barr. Benchuks Nwosu reads:

In the past few weeks, we have witnessed statements, sponsored articles and comments by the All Progressive Congress (APC) and some federal government office holders and apologists in furtherance of the well- funded media trial against our Client, Chief Olisa Metuh.

More disturbing is the direct threat, harassment and intimidation of medical personnel and institutions involved in the treatment and management of our client's ill-health. We have instances and evidence of these APC controlled agents and agencies directly interfering with the various hospitals that have admitted Chief Metuh in the last two months but the latest is the letter written by APC to the Wellington hospital, London, U.K, depicting our client as an enemy of the Nigerian state and one that should not even access to medical treatment abroad.

A simple Google search on Dr. Adrian Casey would have revealed his profile including his references in the wellington hospital website. However these individuals were actually more interested in continuing with the ridicule and media trial of our client and to go further to create controversies even with his last hope for medical succour. Are they just more interested in ensuring that he must be denied access to medical treatment at all cost?

It should be recalled that the APC and government officials had launched a massive campaign to ridicule, mock and make cruel jokes of Chief Metuh's appearance on a stretcher and subsequently in a wheelchair in his obedience to the Rulings and Orders of Justice Abang.

These people are quite aware that the learned Judge had ruled that he will no longer accept medical reports from any doctor in Nigeria. On the same day, the Court ordered that Metuh must appear in Court at the next adjourned date and the only clear choice for a bedridden person would be to appear in Court with his hospital bed or in a stretcher.

The clear fact, as evidenced by his MRI report, is that Chief Olisa Metuh has severe spondylosis with disc herniations, cord and nerve root compressions in his Cervical, Thoracic and Lumbosacral spine. This has resulted in semi-paralysis and we have even gone further in open Court to request that the prosecution be allowed to conduct their own independent clinical examination of the person involved.

Our Client has not left the confines of a hospital or his own bedroom for the past 2 months except to attend Court proceedings. He spent several hours in Court on the 14th of March, 2018 and had to be taken straight to hospital to be sedated with pentadine injection and other strong pain killers. In order to be present in Court on subsequent days (15th and 16th of March 2018) he also had to take the strong pain killer injections early morning before the sittings. This however, resulted in our Client being semi-drowsy on the 15th and 16th and was clearly unable to even observe or follow the proceedings in open Court.

In any case, are these people not aware that it is only in Chief Olisa Metuh’s matter that the issue of release of passport for an accused person has been such an impossibility?

Just last week, a Court released the passport of an accused person being prosecuted by the same EFCC to enable him attend a conference abroad. Others have been allowed to go for medical check- up abroad and even for pilgrimage. The same Court had also granted some other accused persons facing charges the same indulgence being denied Chief Olisa Metuh.

We believe strongly that these media trials are geared towards convincing the public that a man whose charge is that he "reasonably ought to have known" that the money given to him was part of an unlawful activity of another individual who has not even been questioned, investigated or charged is already guilty and convicted even before he has given his evidence in the matter.

Our Client, Chief Olisa Metuh has pleaded not guilty to the charges and has been making his case on his innocence. He has applied the highest level of comportment in showing his respect for our legal system. His only worry remains his plea to be allowed to have a definitive treatment of his worsening ailment. He has suffered humiliation and pain simply by being obedient to court orders.

The fight against corruption does not imply persecution, manifest wickedness and lynch mob approach to particular individuals.

Ndigbo are not terrorists – Chidoka

By Anthony Ogbonna

The Candidate of the United Progressive Party (UPP), for the coming November 18 Anambra Governorship election, Chief Osita Chidoka, OFR, has, Saturday the 30th of September, 2017, officially launched his campaign in the state where he called for a new and united Nigeria founded on justice, equity and fairness.

UPP candidate, Chief Chidoka launches governorship campaign in Uli
Chief Chidoka who recounted the industriousness and patriotism of, especially Nigerians of Igbo extraction, also said that Ndigbo are not terrorists and neither are there terrorists in the south east.

Chief Chidoka who launched the campaign at the historic city of Amorka, the very home of the famous Uli Airport, said his choice of the location “signals the starts of a new engagement; a new dream nurtured by the essentials of our inner consciousness as a people in Nigeria.”

The governorship candidate said he has come under the UPP “platform and out of the ruin of the Uli airport” to “lift a new song; a new banner that galvanizes our collective energy in the renewed quest for a great nation where all are free, where no man is oppressed, subjugated or branded and where there is equality and liberty of self-expression.”

Speaking to over a thousand crowed of supporters gathered to witness the epoch-making event, Chief Chidoka also assured the people of Anambra state of his readiness to lead them into a state “where we will not alleviate poverty but overthrow poverty; a state where we will not reduce injustice but imprison injustice; a state where we will not reduce inequality but abolish all privileges that obstruct equal opportunities.”

Chief Chidoka launches governorship campaign in Uli
Below is the full speech:

“Ladies and gentlemen, my brothers and sisters,

We are gathered here today in the historic city of Amorka to launch a governorship campaign. Many people may be wondering why we chose this ground for this launch. This ground is historic by its significant position as the last standing territory at a great time in the history of a great people and their unconquered resilience in the face of all odds.

This is the home of the famous Uli Airport – an airport, which at some historic point, was the only link between Biafra land and the rest of the world. It remains a loud testimony and tribute to the Igbo ingenuity, innovation and the resilience for which we are known all over the world.

Uli airport remains one of our finest hours when in the midst of bombardments and gunfire; of injury, pain and death; we held forth and sustained an airport that was our support and our access to the whole world even in the midst of battle.

This blessed ground was our avenue for relief for our dying children and the very home of that fearless efforts to finish a war for which many of our finest gallantly laid down their lives for us all.

Chief Chidoka launches governorship campaign in Uli
Today, we stand to pay tribute to all those who died in the quest to build a nation out of the regions of Nigeria; we pay tribute to their courage, their valor and audacity of identity and self-expression.

Gathering at this ruin to launch this governorship campaign signals the starts of a new engagement; a new dream nurtured by the essentials of our inner consciousness as a people in Nigeria.

As we launch our campaign, we lift the “isi agu”, the very Igbo symbol of our courage, pride and undying consciousness as well as our composure and resilience as a people even in the face of adversity.

It is therefore symbolic that the isi agu is also the emblem of our great party, the United Progressive Party (UPP), which today is the political vehicle for our new consciousness and engagement as a people in Nigeria and which also has in its manifesto, the quest and right to self-determination

Upon this platform and out of the ruin of the Uli airport, we lift a new song; a new banner that galvanizes our collective energy in the renewed quest for a great nation where all are free, where no man is oppressed, subjugated or branded and where there is equality and liberty of self-expression.

In March 2015, our country went to an election that divided us greatly. Today the nation is still greatly divided, and almost back to her primordial lines. Our country is troubled; our people are afraid; our future is uncertain.

We cannot build a great nation without unity at home. We cannot be a nation where people are hated, branded and then hounded and ostracized. We stand here to declare that there are no terrorists in our state; there are no terrorists in our region and we do not feel terrorized as a people. Indeed, without further argument, we do not believe that those who are asking for a restructured Nigeria or even for dismemberment of Nigeria are terrorists. No! They are not.

How can Igbos be terrorists? We have always actively participated in the Nigerian project, yet in this country, we have suffered since June 1945 British inspired ethnic violence, nineteen incidents of pogroms, wanton killings, and violence against our people living across the country.

Even at that, we have continued to endure. We have continued, like no other group, to vote with our feet in support of a United Nigeria. We live, invest and raise families across the length and breadth of our country.

We are only asking for a fairer union; a union founded on justice, equity and fairness. A union where Emeka living and schooling in Kebbi, will not be judged as an Anambra indigene at the point of admission. The standard for Ahmed, who grew and schooled in Onitsha, should not be lowered because he is from Kebbi. We will advocate the abolishing of State of origin as a category of identification and replace it with state of residence.

On May 29 2015 the President swore to the oath of office of President of Nigeria, where he swore that He “will do right to all manner of people, according to law, without fear or favour, affection or ill-will;”. Mr. President now is the time to embrace history, heal the land. Become the father of the new Nigeria. History beckons. The alternative to peaceful engagement is too costly.

We cannot live in a country where people are repressed and citizens constantly misunderstand and mistrust one another. No! That is not the way to go. We need new understanding and peace and I, Osita Chidoka, today steps forth to appeal to ndị Anambra to work with me to not only rebuild our state but also re-engage the Nigerian state.

While we salute all those who through one legitimate way or the other had pursued the struggle, we state today that we are stepping into a new frontier. The Igbo voice against marginalization and injustice will not be achieved on the streets.

It will rather be won with a determined engagement of our institutions of government and with other Nigerians who feel aggrieved to redefine the meaning of Nigeria and remove the inequalities that have fanned the embers of discord, and restructure our nation along the lines of justice, equality and fairness.

To this end, my election as governor of Anambra State, will start off with a single agenda; an agenda to secure a new state for the southeast region to bridge the disparity we face. We will immediately, upon inauguration, in line with S. 8 (1) of the 1999 constitution get our National Assembly members from Anambra state, our elected House of Assembly members, and local government chairmen to sign a request to the National Assembly asking for a referendum for the sixth Southeast state.

We will vigorously engage our friends from other states in the National Assembly and other states House of Assembly for a new state. Nigeria must take a decision on the issue of additional state for the southeast before the end of life of the 8thAssembly and the 2019 election.

I will pursue this agenda with all dedication and drive; once it is accomplished, I will be ready for another election. I will not allow the love of office to obstruct our greater good. This is my cardinal covenant with Ndi Anambra.

I also believe that our dear state, Anambra is not achieving its destiny as a state. This state has some of the most educated minds across Nigeria and some of the most natural capabilities that would have turned it into a knowledge, manufacturing and logistics hub of West Africa, if we have the right type of leadership.

My goal as governor is to marshal and spur the God-given ingenuity of our people to create wealth and make Anambra state a self sufficient territory, a model of merit, equity and justice, while connecting our commerce and industry to the whole world.

We have worked out a strategic blueprint with timelines with a four step pyramid of Knowledge, Vision, Execution and Sustainability (KNVES) to make Anambra State work for everybody. Our plan will be underpinned by the Igbo values ofUche, Uchu na Egwu Chukwu. Our plan will be anchored on a program philosophy of monitor, Measure and Improve.

We will run a transparent and community based and all-inclusive system where institutions of government in all critical sectors run efficiently for the desired quality of life for all citizens and residents. Anambra state under my watch will be a model state, a home for all where the forgotten, the poor and the disadvantaged are reintroduced into our society by providing them the basic amenities. This is my promise and I will stand by it.

I stand on the platform of the UPP, a party that has given itself the clear mission to stand by the people and serve only their interest. UPP is the hope of the masses and we will ensure that its mandate of ensuring that all citizens have equal access to opportunity and resources in the state is fully achieved.

Finally, my dear brothers and sister; Ndi Anambra and Igbos, today, I step forward confident in the fact that in all, I have God and the good people of Anambra state beside and behind me. My aspiration to lead our dear state is a product of enduring prayers, abiding faith in God, painstaking planning, extensive mobilization, consultations and bonding among our people without barriers.

On that note I call on all ndi Anambra to rise up today and lift with me the banner of our pride- the banner of ‘isi agu’, and march shoulder to shoulder with this heroic step from the ruins of Uli airport to a glorious future for our state.

A state where we will not alleviate poverty but overthrow poverty; a state where we will not reduce injustice but imprison injustice; a state where we will not reduce inequality but abolish all privileges that obstruct equal opportunities. So help me God.”

South East Agitation: Chidoka Campaign Urges FG For Caution
…Flays APC, APGA On Killings

By Nneso Onyishi

The governorship candidate of the United Progressive Party (UPP) in the Anambra governorship election, Chief Osita Chidoka has called on the Federal Government to be cautious in the handling of matters related to the agitation of the South East region.

Chidoka spoke through the Director Media of his campaign, Viola Ifeyinwa Okolie on Sunday.

Press Statement

South East Agitation: Chidoka Campaign Urges FG For Caution
…Flays APC, APGA On Killings

The Osita Chidoka Campaign Organization calls on the Federal Government and security agencies to apply caution in handling matters related to agitations by the people of the South East region. We also caution against any act that may lead to further confrontation with the people and aggravate the already tensed-up situation in the region.

We hold firmly that rather than aggression and force, the time has come for Nigeria to pause and specifically listen to, understand and address the agitations of people of the south east.

The southeast has legitimate concerns; concerns that have been with us as a nation, for decades. Officials and agencies handling the matter must understand that this agitation has been a lingering issue, existing long before those leading it today were born. Silencing or subjugating them as individuals do not hold the answers, addressing the issues does.

President Muhmmadu Buhari had openly agreed, during his recent address to the nation, that there are “legitimate concerns” and that “every group has a grievance”. The President even acknowledged that “the beauty and attraction of a federation is that it allows different groups to air their grievances and work out a mode of co-existence".

It is therefore our take that the time has come for stakeholders in our nation to directly address these concerns. One of the ways to work out a mode of peaceful co-existence in a federation is when the underpinning issues of marginalization, repression and lack of opportunity being raised by any group; are fundamentally addressed without any forms of ethnic or political colorations.

On our part, this campaign restates that we believe in and will vigorously pursue the ideology of our great party the United Progressive Party (UPP); the ideology of self-determination and right to determine our role in a Nigeria where no man is oppressed; the ideology of hardwork, creativity and the fear of God, the restoration of our homeland and the rebuilding of our capacity as ndi Anambra.

We will pursue the reenacting of our people’s hopes and aspirations, and resist their dehumanizing relegation to a mere "5%", an agenda initiated and practiced by the All Progressive Congress (APC) in cahoots with the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

We invite all to hold the APC and APGA responsible for the escalation of hostilities resulting in wanton killings of harmless southeasterners in various parts of the country. While the APGA, a hitherto pan-Igbo party has since become ideologically vacuous and unable to adequately aggregate and explain the views of ndi-Igbo to other groups in the country, the atrocious silence of Igbo leaders in the APC has emboldened aggression against southeasterners.

The people hold them directly responsible for the killing of our unarmed brothers and sisters in Onitsha, Aba, Port Harcourt and Ekwulobia. No amount of rationalization can explain away their guilt and erase this bloodstain on their banners of wickedness and betrayal.

Most atrocious is that these parties in their impudence are further demonstrating their insensitivity to the feelings of the people by fielding themselves for the November 18, 2017 Anambra governorship election.

On the platform of the UPP, we restate our mission to restore the Igbo voice and end the reign of an ideologically bankrupt party in Anambra state. On this score, our candidate Chief Osita Chidoka stands shoulder to shoulder with the oppressed, the bereaved, the orphaned, the deprived and the betrayed; as we march to reclaim our state and restore the dignity of our people come November 18, 2017.

Signed
Viola Ifeyinwa Okolie

Anambra Guber: Chidoka Urges Preservation Of Catholic Monuments.

By Uzondu Nwokoma
Anambranewscom

Frontline contender and candidate of the United Progressive Party (UPP) for the November 18, 2017 Anambra governorship election, Chief Osita Chidoka, has stressed the need to preserve historic monuments and values of the Catholic Church.

Chidoka, who spoke on Sunday at a mass to mark the rededication of St Andrew’s Catholic Church, Adazi Nnukwu and the Silver Jubilee of Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Jonas Benson Okoye, also received accolades for his veneration of the values of the Church.

The former Marshal of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) said the monuments of the church serve for spiritual inspiration and edification and as such must be preserved. He narrated his one week experience while working at the Vatican as Adviser to Pope Benedict on Road Safety, during which he witnessed and valued the fact that the history and monuments of the Church were well preserved. He said having such historical preservation was not just for tourism, but also for spiritual enlightenment.

A statement by the media director of Chidoka's campaign organisation, Viola Ifeyinwa Okolie said Chidoka also congratulated the parish priest of the church, the Very Rev. Fr. Mike Onwukike for his labour in rebuilding and modernizing the church leading to its rededication.

Chidoka said when elected into office, his government will give priority attention to the physical and spiritual development of the state. He said the Church and clergymen play critical roles in imparting and upholding values and as such must be given their rightful place in the state.

Speaking, Bishop Okoye commended Chidoka for his interest in St Andrew's, which altar he said was built in 1923 by Rev. Fr. Albert Bubendorff and had remained preserved as a historic monument, despite the modernization the church had gone through.

He said he was happy that the UPP governorship candidate knows the importance of preserving the monuments of the church adding that such stood him out among other speakers at the event.

Other dignitaries at the service included former governor of Anambra State, Chief Peter Obi, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo and Igwe Prof. Augustine Obiekezie. Governor Willie Obiano was represented.

Recall that a day earlier, traditional rulers from the southeast region transferred the Ofor Igbo, the Igbo symbol of authority and power, earlier vested on Governor Willie Obiano during the 2013 Anambra governorship election, to Chidoka, an event which signified a transfer of leadership mantle to him ahead of the November election.

Anambra Guber: “It Is Certain We’ll Win” - Chidoka

…Says The People Stand With Him.

Former aviation minister and frontline contender in the November 18, 2017 Anambra state governorship election, Chief Osita Chidoka has said with the widespread support from the people and the soaring popularity of his party, the United Progressive Party (UPP), it is certain that he will win the governorship election.

The former Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), who has been on very extensive grassroots mobilization and tours of his campaign offices and structures in all the 326 electoral wards across the state, has since become the electoral face for the actualization of the aspiration and struggle of the ordinary people in Anambra state.

Speaking on Thursday while receiving some political associates and some professional groups in Anambra who visited his campaign office in Awka, the Anambra state capital, Chief Chidoka said “the game is already up for the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) which has since squandered the goodwill initially reposed in it by the people.”

Speaking further, Chief Chidoka said “the ordinary people of Anambra; who are the ultimate deciders at the polls are intensely yearning for an entirely new era; a government run by persons of proven experience, integrity and character; a new, transparent, resourceful and prudent administration that guarantees them full and equal access to resources and opportunities available in their state, and I represent that struggle and aspiration”.

“I stand for the people and they stand with me. We have since become a movement with an inevitable mission; a mission to take back the state to the rightful owners: ndi Anambra; a mission for a new order where resources and opportunities are not cornered by a privileged and corrupt few but for the benefit of all.

“We are fully mobilized in all the 326 electoral wards in the state. We have our supporters and volunteers everywhere; we are all working very hard and will not rest until we accomplish our mission. It is for this cause that the people will vote and protect their vote until the end,” he said.

Chidoka further noted that it was easy for the UPP to spread across the state because it was built and completely owned by the people themselves, after they have lost faith in other political parties.

“There is no way any other party can defeat UPP in Anambra state. It is a party built and owned by the people. APGA has completely failed them. APC has rejected, marginalized and dehumanized them as mere 5%, so it has no place here. The PDP has lost its bearing as a party and cannot connect with the people.

“Go and check, it is only the UPP that has genuine followership across Anambra. While other parties are busy chasing shadows, we have been working hard to build our structures. The people know that the UPP is that authentic political vehicle through which they can realize their aspirations. The time has passed when they can be bought or intimidated. They can no longer be deceived by those who believe they can buy their votes; or those who use the names and faces of our heroes past to get to power” he said.

Chief Chidoka however said that he is not unaware of the antics and political gimmicks directed to weaken his campaign but added that those behind such are jittery of the polls. He said they are fighting an already lost battle as the people, whose cause he represented, had since moved ahead in their mission to take back their state.

Finally, Chief Chidoka used the opportunity to commend the leadership of the party and delegates to Saturday’s governorship primary for their resilience in the face of attacks by anti-people forces who attempted to scuttle the exercise.

Anambra Guber: Chidoka Not Suspended In UPP

Our attention has been drawn to reports circulating in a section of the media that frontline contender in the November 18, 2017 Anambra governorship election, Chief Osita Chidoka has been suspended from our great party, the United Progressive Party (UPP).

This is totally misleading and aimed at destabilizing our great party ahead of our governorship election primaries scheduled for August 19, 2017.

For the avoidance of doubt and to set the record straight, Chief Osita Chidoka has not been suspended from the party and he is not facing any disciplinary issues whatsoever with the party.

While we are aware of forces outside our party bent at causing confusion within our ranks having realized our massive support from the people ahead of the elections, we state in very strong terms that they are fighting a lost battle as we are not in anyway distracted in our mission to return Anambra back to the people come November 18, 2017.

We therefore urge all our supporters to disregard the misleading report and continue working hard for the election.

Stop deceiving yourself. Look at paragraph 2. You said metuh chewed the paper but the Efcc testified in court that he did not chew any paper or even attempted to do so. So who is lying. In fact the efcc even admitted that the paper the alleged metuh tour was even unsigned. So why the torments

Guy stop being clever by half, here is the quote from the news source you quoted:

He said Metuh signed the first two pages but when he got to the third page, instead of signing, he (Metuh) tore the page.

He however said he did not take any statement from the defendant regarding the alleged tearing of statement. The PW1 also told the court that the accused did not chew or attempted to chew any part of his statement as reported in a section of the media.

Also at the resumed hearing, another EFCC investigator and Prosecution Witness 2 (PW2) said the former PDP spokesperson tore the unsigned third sheet of his statement after which he demanded a new sheet to continue his statement.

Nov. Poll: Anambra Women Groups Endorse Chidoka
...Say No Other Aspirant Ranks Him In Character, Performance

Vanguard news

A coalition of women groups in Anambra state has endorsed former aviation minister, Chief Osita Chidoka ahead of the November 18, 2017 governorship election in the state.

Chief Chidoka, a frontline contender in the election is contesting on the platform of the pro-people United Progressive Party (UPP), whose membership and support has rapidly spread across the state.

The women who were in Obosi, Chief Chidoka’s hometown on Monday for a solidarity visit said the endorsement was a product of very wide consultations and extensive appraisal of all the aspirants in the governorship race.

Leader of the group, Lady Oge Agu said apart from Chief Chidoka’s “experience, proven capacity and track record of performance and integrity in public service” the decision of the women on whom to back for the election was also informed by his effort in championing the course of the ordinary people as well as his respect and value for women.

She said though the other aspirants are also qualified in the sense that they are citizens of the state, none of them rivaled Chief Chidoka in “character, capacity, record of performance and sense of duty in public service”.

The women said it remains on record that Chief Chidoka made Anambra state very proud with his performance as the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) where he turned around an outfit that was on the verge of being scrapped for low performance, into a world class agency, noting that they are confident that he would in the same vein deliver as governor of Anambra state.

“We mothers and daughters in Anambra believe in you. We believe in your character, capacity and sense of duty. We have confidence in your ability to deliver based on your proven track record of performance in public service and we are assured that you would not only live up to expectations, but also be a good role model for the next generation in our state”, the woman leaders stated.

The women group also commended Chief Chidoka for the respect and value he placed on women, which he demonstrated by being the first aspirant to appoint a female as campaign spokesperson, a signal that Anambra women would be accorded their rightful place under his administration.

Speaking, Chief Chidoka thanked the women for their support and assured them of his unflinching commitment to not only turn around the fortunes of the state, but also to run a transparent and all-inclusive government that would redirect the resources of the state for the overall good of the ordinary people.

Chief Chidoka who is currently on tour of his campaign offices and structures in the 326 electoral wards across the state had a brief stop-over at the Obosi Town Hall to further appreciate a gathering of women supporters before continuing with the tours.

Your point is also valid but while Nyako was in charge of money and is being accused of stealing, Metuh was not in charge of money and the EFCC is not even accusing him of stealing. what the EFCC is charging Metuh of is that he the money he received from President Jonathan for a party assignment was proceed of illegal activity of another person altogether (sambo Dasuki). so from the onset the EFCC really has no case against Metuh. but since he has been charged like Nyako he should be at least accorded the same treatment

You made valid points...to me its not about Buhari and fight against corruption, but Justice Okon Abang shamelessly making his inclination towards APC open..how can you grant a man who stole N29b leave to travel out while denying the same request from another ( criminal) who stole N400m.

Anambra Guber: PDP Group Rejects Zoning
Battles Obiano For Alleged Meddling in PDP Affairs

By Bitrus Handan

The crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over Anambra governorship election has worsened as a group in the party under the umbrella of Anambra PDP Progressives Forum (APPF) on Friday issued a stern warning to the party not to give in to the idea of zoning the governorship slot to Anambra North.

The group, which made its position known in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Chief Ben Ukachukwu also warned Governor Willie Obiano to steer clear of the PDP, as it accused the governor of trying to compromise certain PDP officials to cause confusion in the party by sponsoring an aspirant in the forthcoming party governorship primaries.

It said the argument of zoning is completely “lacking in natural justice, equity and good conscience” adding that it is bereft of any basis in the political history of Anambra state.

It further accused Governor Obiano of using the funds meant for the development of Anambra state to bribe push the zoning agenda.

“The truth is that an APGA incumbent governor who has failed woefully to show evidence of even development except for Aguleri town where he comes from is busy using state resources in excess of N75bn inherited from the administration of the former Governor, Mr. Peter Obi to bribe and destabilize the National, Zonal and State officials of Anambra PDP as well as massively bribe and confuse traditional rulers and market leaders into emergency advocates of a non-existent formula in Anambra state politics”, it said.

Insisting that zoning has no place in Anambra politics, the group went down memory lane and posited that the idea was an insult to the majority of Anambra people.

“This argument is also a patented insult to majority of Anambra State political actors, especially those from the south senatorial zone who supported and voted for a candidate from the central zone even when Anambra South zone was yet to serve out their second four-year tenure during the Chinwoke Mbadinuju regime.

“In 2003, there was no clamour by Anambra South zone to complete their second term in office. In 2007, there was no such argument by Anambra Central zone to continue in office. In 2010, there was no blackmail and propaganda by Mr. Peter Obi to continue in office as of right, personal or zonal.

“In 2014, there emerged a sentiment for Anambra North zone to be considered for the governorship seat, which nobody took very seriously because the governorship of Anambra State has never been based on sentiments or propaganda but by merit and ability to perform.

“In this 2017 governorship election, the equity between Anambra North zone and Anambra South are equal. By November 2017, both zones would have served one term each from 1999. Prior to 1999, the equation was heavily in favour of the North zone in holding political offices meant for the entire state. They cannot therefore claim to be short-changed in holding political offices in Anambra State”, it said.

The group finally cautioned Gov. Obiano to bury any idea of destabilizing the PDP saying such would not succeed.

Some of the reasons he gave for granting Nyako leave to travel was that Nyako had always behaved himself in court, had not been absent from court, had never done anything to attempt to delay proceedings or show that he will not return. The questions are; has Olisa Metuh at anytime behaved unruly in court? Has he been absent from court except for the days he was admitted at the National Hospital?

So is the idea to kill Metuh before the end of the case? This is a man that the court is aware has been living with serious pain killers to be able to move around. What is wrong in allowing him to get medical treatment and coming back to face his trial. The issue of jumping bail does not arise. His passport will just be deposited at the UK embassy and he cannot go to any other place but the hospital and back to Nigeria. That is Justice unless the court has already pronounced him guilty before trial.

How Reno Omokri’s Post On Metuh, Nyako Sparked Outrage On Facebook

By Bismarch Adeyemo

Nigerians have descended heavily on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as well as Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court Abuja for what some of them termed as double standard in the handling of the on-going trials of former Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa state and former National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh.

Nigerians took to the facebook to slam the EFCC and Justice Abang for granting Nyako leave to travel abroad for medical treatment, when they earlier refused similar application by Metuh.

The facebook outrage was sparked by Reno Omokri, Special Adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan on new media, who claimed that Metuh was refused leave to travel for a delicate spinal chord surgery, despite valid medical report only because he is of the PDP and the disparaged 5% of Nigerians, while Nyako was freely granted leave because he is of the APC and the favored 97%.

Omokri’s post reads: “Murtala Nyako, an APC member belonging to President Muhammadu Buhari's 97% voting bloc was accused of stealing ₦29 billion. He applied to travel abroad for medical treatment before Justice Abang and the EFCC DID NOT oppose his application and it was granted. Olisa Metuh a PDP member belonging to President Muhammadu Buhari's 5% voting bloc is accused of having received NSA funds of ₦400 million and using it for campaigning for the PDP (note that he was not accused of stealing). He applied to travel abroad for a spinal injury to the same Justice Abang and the EFCC opposed his application and it was denied despite tendering reports from multiple neurosurgeons. Think about that before you come here to tell me that this current EFCC is not an arm of the APC.”

Omokri’s post sparked off comments from Nigerians who lambasted the court and the EFCC for what they described as double standard in the handling of the two cases.

Commenting, Tee Mac Iseli lamented that issues are now treated in Nigeria on the basis of ethnicity, political affiliations and religion. “Well in our country there are people who are more than equal. It depends from what area you come from, what religion you practise and most of all which political party you belong too…‬”.

Lamenting on the matter, another facebok user, Gamkat Dashe accused the EFCC and the court of unfairness. According to her. “I wonder why Justice Abang is so biased against Olisa Metuh. Has the judge concluded that Metuh is a criminal who will not return to the country if he goes abroad? Justice Abang has completely shown that he is a partisan judge and I pity all PDP members appearing before him”.

Also commenting Ikechukwu Onyia said the development only goes to buttress that the APC-led is punishing Metuh for the role he played as the spokesperson of the opposition PDP, adding that such double standards in the dispensation of justice is at the root of unrests and agitations in various parts of the country.

Commenting, Kamen Chucks and Musa Mikaya backed Omokri while describing the development as “not just mere injustice against Chief Metuh but also a malicious act of wickedness and clear exhibition of man's inhumanity to fellow man”. Musa Mikaya described it as “glaring injustice and inhumanity of man to man”

In his own comment, a facebook user Peter Oto related the development to the debate of inequality in the novel, Animal Farms, “I thought the rule of law applies to every body...let me go look for my novel Animal Farms, “what did Napoleon sayyyyyy!!! Yesssss!!! ''All animals are equal but some animals are ...."

Also commenting, Femowei Braye Friday said “One of my professor friend from Uganda Mamhood Mamdani calls it the "Bifurcation of the state " where a set certain sets rules and laws are meant for some of people, while another is meant for another set of people. However, I urge they remember that politics is a two edged game which is transient.” ‬

While some users insist that there is no way Metuh can get justice before Justice Abang, others lamented that the ill treatment of certain Nigerians on the basis of their tribe and political affiliation is the root of the growing unrest agitation in various parts of the country.

It would be recalled that Metuh was very vocal in his role as then spokesman of the PDP. There is a growing concern regarding the administration of justice on the Metuh as well as other members of the opposition PDP

Anambra Needs A Government With Conscience - Chidoka
…Says Leaders Must Be Responsible

Lead contender in the Anambra governorship election, Chief Osita Chidoka, has said that Anambra state deserves a government with a conscience and sense of responsibility towards the people and not a carefree and imprudent administration that lacks the presence of mind and capacity to provide the desired quality of leadership in the state.

The former aviation minister who is contesting on the platform of the United Progressive Party (UPP) stated this while commissioning his campaign offices in Orumba North and South Local Government Areas of the state, noting that Anambra no longer has a place for a government that cannot firmly stand for and defend the people when the occasion demands.

"Our people have had enough. Ndi Anambra cannot continue to be under a government without a conscience and a sense of responsibility towards the people; a government that has over time failed to stand up for the people when the occasion demands, yet continues with impunity. Our people are our greatest assets and deserve a government that upholds their interests and values", he said while praying for the victims of the Ozubulu killing.

Chief Chidoka said the time has come for the people to stand up and use the November election to redirect the course of governance in the state by electing a person with proven character, capacity and experience in public service as well as genuine commitment to the people, adding that that is why he is in the race.

While interacting with his supporters, Chidoka lamented the level of youth unemployment in the area but assured them that he has already designed a micro-financing system to empower hard working youth of Anambra state immediately he is elected into office. He said the scheme is part of his larger economic empowerment project that will ensure that the youth in Anambra are directly empowered to establish and create wealth in their respective endeavors.

He further assured that he will run an all inclusive government that directly impacts on the welfare of the ordinary people, with a cardinal agenda of redirecting the resources of the state to ensure the ordinary people are the ultimate beneficiaries.

Speaking at the opening of the campaign office in Umunze in Orumba South local government, a community leader in the area, Ichie Nwagboso Onyeagba commended Chief Chidoka for being on the side of the people at all times. He particularly applauded him for his boldness in speaking out for the people as well as the roles he played in ensuring the release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, at a time other leaders from the South East were afraid to take a stand.

Ichie Onyeagba said the people are aware that Chief Chidoka played that role because of his commitment to the Igbo spirit of brotherliness which is now largely lacking among Igbo leaders. He later led other elders in the area to offer prayers for Chief Chidoka's success at the polls.

Anambra Guber: Chidoka Commissions More Campaign Offices
…..Dedicates Resumed Tours To Ozubulu Massacre Victims

[sub][/sub]
Former aviation minister and frontline contender in the November 18, 2017 Anambra Governorship election, Chief Osita Chidoka on Tuesday resumed tours and commissioning of his campaign offices, as well as consolidation of his political structures in all the 326 electoral wards across the state.

Chief Chidoka who has since set up campaign offices and political structures in all the 21 local government areas across the state, out of which he has already toured and commissioned 12, announced that the remaining tours are dedicated to victims of the gruesome gun attack at St. Philips Catholic Church Ozubulu, Anambra state.

Speaking while commissioning his campaign office in Atani in Ogbaru Local Government, Chief Chidoka who led his supporters to hold prayers and a minute’s silence in honour of the victims insisted that their suffering and death must not be in vain but must be the “clarion call on all citizens of Anambra to stand up in one accord against any order that nurtures, promotes and endorses impunity and recklessness in our state”.

Chief Chidoka who is contesting on the platform of the United Progressive Party (UPP), said the incident is a clear indication of the erosion of values, moral standard and failure of leadership in the state adding that nobody should rest until those responsible for the Ozubulu attack and similar killings in the state are brought to book.

Stating that the coming election offers the people of Anambra the opportunity to institute a responsible and resourceful government that dedicates its energies to the good of the ordinary people, Chidoka lamented the level of government neglect and dearth of amenities in the Ogbaru area despite the rich natural resources and the commitment and contribution of the people towards the state.

“The level of government neglect here is very alarming. The failure of the government to open up the economic potentials of Ogbaru is unexplainable and unforgivable. Ogbaru is blessed with huge gas deposit, fertile land for agricultural activities, abundant aquatic resources and a waterway that connects the inland of our state to the rest of the world, yet we have done nothing to develop the resources for the benefit of our people. Clearly the people of Ogbaru have not been treated well”, Chidoka lamented.

He said his government will set up a special development programme to unlock the economic potentials of Ogbaru and other such areas across the state.

Chief Chidoka who later in the day commissioned his campaign office in Onitsha South Local Government, also restated the vision of his government to modernize markets in the state and boost small scale businesses with aids and international connection. He said the era where the benefits of government are restricted to a privileged few must come to an end.

Speaking at the event, a woman leader in the area, Mrs. Roselyn Okafor commended Chief Chidoka for his commitment and dedication to the developmental needs of the ordinary people. He said of all the aspirants, only Chief Chidoka is genuinely in touch with the people at the grassroot level, while sincerely championing the course of the ordinary people in the state.

Another Critical Look At Olisa Metuh’s N400m Case

By Mallam Umaru Idris

Participants on Channels TV morning discussion program, Sunrise Daily of Thursday, August 3, 2017 brought a new twist to the on-going prosecution of the former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olisa Metuh for receiving the sum of N400 million alleged to be “part of the proceeds of illegal activities” of Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd).

A legal practitioner, Mathias Emeribe who appeared on the Channels TV program queried the legal basis for prosecuting Metuh when Dasuki has not yet been charged for that particular issue or convicted by any court of law in the country.

According to Emeribe, “the case of the $2.1 billion arms deal money involving Col. Dasuki and that of the former PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh raises a lot of issues.

“If Metuh is being prosecuted for receiving N400 million money from the alleged $2.1 billion arms deal money, the first question that needs to be determined is; is there actually a missing $2.1 billion? Who does it lie on to say there was a missing or stolen $2.1 billion? In other words, the court must first of all come to the conclusion that $2.1 billion was missing, and then you talk about the issue of the persons who stole the money.

“The issue here is that if you go ahead to prosecute and find the man who received N400 million ‘guilty’ (in quotes) and it happens that the $2.1 billion we are talking about is not there and the main actor goes to the court and he is not found guilty, on what basis will the person who received N400 million be convicted?” he queried, stating that such is the reason such cases should be reviewed.

Another issue that bugs the mind in the Metuh case is the refusal of the Judge, Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court Abuja to grant Metuh’s application to compel Col. Dasuki to appear in court to testify on the matter, even when he is the central character related to the charges preferred against Metuh.

The question is, what stops the judge from ordering the appearance of Dasuki even when he has the jurisdiction and powers to do so in the overall interest of justice and fairness; and even when the constitution has guaranteed that an accused be provided adequate facility to defend himself? How would Abang determine that the source of the money is illegal if he does not put Dasuki in the box? Or has he precluded that the EFCC must be right simply because it is EFCC?

The worry here is the apparent politicization of corruption cases in Nigeria. The handling of Metuh’s case by the EFCC and the trial court evokes a lot of debates on the principles of justice and fairness, and may be a sour point in our justice system and question of national polity, especially given the controversial allusion to the 97% versus the 5%.

Politics / Anambra Guber: Bishops Pray For Osita Chidoka by IfeyNeme: 9:00am On Jun 27, 2017
…..Urge Spirit of Sportsmanship Among Politicians

Bishops from the Anglican and Methodist Church on Sunday offered prayers for frontline contender in the November 18, 2017 Anambra state governorship election, Chief Osita Chidoka while admonishing politicians to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship for the election.

While the Methodist Bishop of Onitsha, Rt. Rev. Biereonwu Onuagha in his charge, said only God knows who will be the next governor of the state, the Anglican Bishop of Niger West Diocese, Aguleri, Rt. Rev Johnson Ekwe described Chief Chidoka as the “icon of the new generation”.

Presiding at a special service to mark his 60th birthday, which was attended by Chief Chidoka, Methodist Bishop Onuagha prayed God to grant him the grace, strength and divine guidance as he pursues his aspiration. He also charged all those in the governorship race to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship adding that it is only God that knows who among them will be the next governor.

Earlier in the day, Chief Chidoka had attended the first session of the third synod of the Niger West Diocese, Aguleri where Anglican Bishop Ekwe described him as a worthy son of Anambra, who has made the state proud in various national assignments adding that God will duly reward him.

Addressing the Synod, Anambra State governor, Governor Willie Obiano who hails from Aguleri used the occasion to make clarifications regarding some projects by his administration and canvassed for the support of the church for a second term in office.

Speaking at the occasion, Chief Chidoka, who is contesting on the platform of the United Progressive Party (UPP) said he was not in the church for a political campaign but to attend the synod and show solidarity to the governor by supporting the church in his hometown.

He cited the story in the bible where God asked David to allow his son, Solomon to build a temple for him and told the congregation that the time has come for the new generation of Anambra sons and daughters to take over the mantle of the leadership and continue the works of developing the state.

Chidoka later commended the church for providing spiritual guidance to the people and urged the congregation to continue to pray for him as well as the wellbeing of the state.
