WHY THE CURRENT POLITICAL CONFIGURATION IN ETHIOPE WEST L. G. A NEEDS TO BE RESTRUTURED

Many would agree that since the wake of the present political dispensation, Ethiope West Local Government Area has remained a point of reference in terms of the strategic political understanding and connection that exist among the people of the local government area, particularly among its political leaders in the three clan that make up the local government area.
We could say that this political connection and relationship dates back to the 4th Republic in 1991, during the Gen. Badamasi Babagida orchestrated transition program. The relationship ensured that every section of Ethiope West L. G. A was represented in the political configuration of the local government area.
As a people aware of how this political understanding and bond could play a key role in the overall development and well-being of Ethiope West L. G. A and its people, this understanding was sustained into the present political dispensation in 1999, as every segment of the local government area was made to have a sense of belonging through patronages in the form of political appointments, elective positions, infrastructural and human capital development.
The benefits of that political understanding and relationship are evident for everyone to see. Apart from the fact that, it has brought about unprecedented attainments and success in terms of human capital and infrastructural developments, it has also played a key role in strengthening the unity, solidarity and cohesion among the people of Ethiope West Local Government Area.
It is apparently as a result of the above factors that it has been the hope and prayers of many in Ethiope West L. G. A, that this understanding and relationship should be sustained, going by the fact that, it has proven to possess the capacity and potential to drive the overall development, growth and progress of Ethiope West Local Government Area and its people.
However, political developments in Ethiope West Local Government Area over the last three years clearly suggests that, the understanding and relationship that has hitherto existed among the people of the local government area and that has been remarkably responsible for theur enviable place in the socio-political dynamics delta state is been threatened, a development that could have grave implication for the political fortunes and the future of the people and the future of the people of Ethiope West L. G. A if not nipped in the bud.
Let’s look at political developments in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for example, elective and virtually all appointive political positions meant for the local government area, ate presently being occupied by a section of the local government area.
For instance, the chairman of Ethiope West L. G. A is from Oghara, so is the chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) of the local government, and as well as the member representing Ethiope West State Constituency at the Delta State House of Assembly. This is in addition to the fact that the current Managing Director of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) is also from Oghara, and as well as the chairman of the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission(DESIEC).
There is no doubt That the current configuration of Ethiope West L. G. A clearly undermines and destabilizes the political understanding and connection that has existed among the people of the local government area before now, and it obviously smacks of insensitivity and inconsiderateness of those behind it.
While this writer finds no pleasure in saying this, the truth however remains that, unless this lopsided political configuration is addressed with the seriousness it demands, the ruling party in the State should be rest assured that, this clear act of injustice, prejudice and self-centeredness is capable of wreaking havoc for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the up coming election in the local government area.
No one needs to be told that the people of Ethiope West Local Government Area are aggrieved with the current political developments in the area. It is the opinion of this writer that everyone in Ethiope West L. G. A should be treated as equal stakeholders. Whether we like it or not, the current political situation in Ethiope West L. G. A is already taking a toll on the unity and Concord that has until now existed amongst the three clans that make up the local government area.
It is against the above background that I want to call on His Excellency, Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa, His Excellency, Chief James Onanefe Ibori, former executive Gov. Of Delta State, Hon. (Chief) Ighoyota Amori, Hon. (Chief) John Nani, Hon. (Chief) Emmanuel Ighomena and all political stakeholders and all people of good conscience in Ethiope West L. G. A, to rise up to confront this stark injustice that seeks to destabilize and disunite us as a people.

Mr Goodluck Igho Omene was born on the 28th of may 1974, into the humble, peaceful, hospitable and royal family of the Omene’s of Mosogar, Ethiope West L.G.A of Delta State.

Educational background.

I attended Nana Primary School, Warri and as well as Federal Government College Warri for my secondary school education. In 1993, I gained admission into European University in the Hague, Holland where I graduated in 1998 with double honours, bagging Bachelor Degrees in Business Administration (B.B.A) and information system (B.I.S). I also bagged my masters Degree in Business Administration (M.B.A) from the same institution in 1999.

Professional Background.

By the grace of God almighty, I am the MD/C.E.O of Transit oil Nig ltd, leading company of the Oil and Gas sector of the Nigerian economy. I am also the Board Chairman of Southern Petroleum Gas Company and a Director in several companies that spans finance and oil and gas, which includes Southern Petroleum Exploration and Production Ltd.

Why I am Running on the Platform of PDP.

I am running on the platform of PDP as a result of the fact that the party has been able to bring development to our people, both human and capital development. This also coupled with the fact that the party has provided a sense of belonging among Deltans, which is clearly reflected in its fair treatment to minority group in the state. I also believe that the PDP has been remarkable in uniting Deltans in spite of the different ethnic nationalities that make up the state. It is clearly against this background and in spite of the fact that, most members of my larger family are in the APC, I have chosen to remain in the PDP. Personally, I am doing everything possible to convince my family members that there is no better alternative to PDP in Delta State.

Why I Choose to Run Now.

I am a loyal party man and as someone who would never go against the guidelines of the party, I decided to wait patiently until it is the turn of Mosogar to produce the candidate to represent the good people of Ethiope West at the State House of Assembly. Jesse has had three representatives in the past, in the persons of Hon. Halims Agoda, Hon.(Engr.) Anthony Akpomiemie and Hon. (Chief) John Nani. Also Oghara have had three representatives, which include Hon. (Engr.) Ighomena, Hon. Ben Ibakpa, and the incumbent, Hon. Erhiatake Ibori. Of note is that there has been a tradition of one tenor for each person. Sadly Mosogar has never produced a representative in the Delta State House of Assembly. Hence, I believe that this time around, and by the grace of the almighty God, the party will do the right thing by choosing a candidate from Mosogar to represent the good people of Ethiope West at the Delta State House of Assembly for fairness justice and equity.

My Vision for the People of Ethiope West L.G.A.

Part of my vision and plans for the people Ethiope West L.G.A as a legislator is to work with the Executive Arm of Government to ensure that the dividend of democracy is felt by the people of my constituency. To this end, I intend to sponsor Bills that will focus on development and social Welfare for my people, with the aim of creating employment opportunities for the teeming youths in the local government. I also intend to focus on the educational development of our people. I believe that if our people are educated, they will have the opportunity of unlocking their latent potentials, and this will in turn make them useful to themselves and the society in general.

URHOBO IN TEARS:
In 2014, Olorogun Otega Emerho boasted to me in my house that if the UPU after due consultations with the Urhobo Elders and Leaders headed by Justice Dugbo , Chief Ogbetuo, Dr Salubi, Forum of Kingdoms President Generals headed by Dr Obakponovwe, The Eghweya headed by Mrs Unukeguo and the Ighele headed by Comr Ovie Igho Anthony dare ask him to step down for Chief Great Ogboru he ll make sure that the UPU WILL BE DESTROYED AND WILL NOT EXIST ANY MORE. This is a Union that has existed for over 86 years being threatened by a single individual. Since then, he has in collaboration with his Urhobo Social Club in Lagos, the so called Urhobo Urhobo Historical Society known for the distortion of Urhobo history to bring a self confessed Ijaw man to head the Urhobo Union. A mission that is doomed to fail. There is also the PDP angle with the Governor Sen Dr Okowa using the might of his Office positioning over 600 police men to forcefully conduct another election when an election has been conducted in accordance with the UPU constitution. In trying to give the impression that his man is the " PRESIDENT GENERAL " he used his connection to organize a meeting between The President and some Kings of Urhobo who went to endorse Okowa as Governor come 2019 even though there are Urhobos contesting under Apc, though he claims to be an APC. We in the UPU know where his interest lies. Urhobo has a way of punishing his erring children. He was detained by the DSS and was not even allowed to see Mr President. What a shame. The President did not even want to see the delegation if not for intervention of a prominent Urhobo in the Presidency that was why the meeting was so brief and without color. This is how our kings have been bringing shame to the Urhobo nation. Without reasoning they endorsed Okowa PDP and still go to the President an APC. Mr President knows them as unserious monarchs. When I visited the Presidency as President General in 2014, apart from granting us audience President Jonathan granted me private audience for about 25 min where crucial matters concerning Urhobo interest was discussed. The real UPU will soon visit Mr President and not the Pdp UPU.

The delegation was made up of Chief Moses Taiga, the Ijaw man that Gov. Okowa of Delta State is using to Balkanize the UPU and some of the traditional rulers who supervised the violation of the UPU Constitution on 2-1-17 in second election within one month. As a result of their actions, they are defendants in Suit No. FHC/CS/10/2017 coming up again on 17-7-2018. The visit was a celebration of brigandage, impunity and disregard for due process. Nemesis caught up with the chief organizer of this infamy Chief Emerhor Otega who should know that everyone reaps what he sows and those who have sworn to break up the UPU will end up harming themselves. The other members of the hurriedly assembled treacherous Urhobo visitors to PMB are made of the Lagos wing of Taiga's group who are attempting without success to reconstruct Urhobo as matrilineal instead of the patrilineal ethno society that it is. The rest part of that querulous delegation is made up of opportunistic political upstarts and misguided adventurers who were fattened by the PDP yesterday, who today claim APC born again status in the day time but remember and work hard with the Okowa Delta PDP machine at night time. APC beware of powerful internal moles who are desperate politicians who have no principles and are willing to sacrifice everything for power.
