Strategies to Strengthen the Nigerian Naira against the US Dollar: T. M. Ogboye
The Nigerian naira (NGN) has faced significant fluctuations against the US dollar (USD) in recent years, impacting the country's economy and trade. To address this challenge, this article explores strategies to strengthen the naira and potentially rise above the dollar.
1. Diversify the Economy:
Nigeria's economy is heavily reliant on oil exports, making it vulnerable to global market fluctuations. Diversifying the economy through investments in agriculture, manufacturing, and services can reduce this dependence and attract foreign investment, stabilizing the naira, (African Development Bank, 2022).
2. Fiscal Discipline:
According to the International Monetary Fund (2020), Implementing fiscal discipline by reducing government spending, increasing tax revenues, and managing debt can help maintain a stable macroeconomic environment, boosting investor confidence and supporting the naira.
3. Monetary Policy:
The Central Bank of Nigeria can implement policies to manage inflation, maintain a stable interest rate, and regulate the foreign exchange market to prevent currency speculation and stabilize the naira.
4. Investment in Infrastructure:
Investing in infrastructure development, such as transportation networks, energy systems, and telecommunications, can enhance economic productivity, attract foreign investment, and support the naira.
5. Promote Export-Led Growth:
The Nigerian Export Promotion Council in the year 2022 call on the federal government to encourage export-led growth through incentives and support for non-oil exports to increase foreign exchange earnings, reduce the trade deficit, and strengthen the naira.
6. Manage Foreign Exchange Reserves:
Effective management of foreign exchange reserves can help maintain a stable exchange rate, prevent currency fluctuations, and support the naira.
7. Encourage Foreign Investment:
According to the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (2022), promoting a favorable business environment, simplifying investment procedures, and offering incentives can attract foreign investment, increase foreign exchange inflows, and support the naira.

12 Ways To Maintain Positive Mindset During Stress: T. M. Ogboye

Mindset encompasses your mental state, influencing your thoughts, emotions, and actions. It's your outlook on life, shaping your perception of the world. A positive mindset, or optimistic attitude, entails believing in favorable outcomes and anticipating goodness. Conversely, a negative mindset entails expecting unfavorable events and struggling to see the positives. Embracing a positive mindset empowers you to believe in yourself and your potential, serving as a catalyst for success in various aspects of life, including academics, career, and personal growth.

According to Kendra Cherry (2017) “Positive thinking means approaching life’s challenges with a positive outlook. It does not necessarily mean avoiding or ignoring the bad things; instead, it involves making the most of the potentially bad situations, trying to see the best in other people, and viewing yourself and your abilities in a positive light.”

Maintaining positivity during stress can be challenging, but there are some strategies that can help:
1. Deep breathing exercises: Take slow, deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth, focusing on the sensation of the breath.
2. Positive self-talk: Encourage yourself with positive affirmations, such as "I can handle this" or "I am strong and capable."
3. Gratitude practice: Reflect on the things you are grateful for, no matter how small they may seem.
4. Physical activity: Engage in some form of physical activity, such as a short walk or some stretching, to help release tension.
5. Mindfulness meditation: Take a few minutes to focus on the present moment, without judgment.
6. Connect with others: Reach out to a friend, family member, or colleague for support and connection.
7. Reframe stressors as challenges: View stressful situations as opportunities for growth and learning.
8. Take breaks and practice self-care: Make time for activities that bring you joy and help you relax.
9. Practice positive visualization: Imagine yourself handling the stressful situation with ease and confidence.
10. Get enough sleep and nutrition: Make sure you are well-rested and fueled to help manage stress.
11. Laugh it off: Watch a funny video, read a humorous article, or hang out with people who make you laugh.
12. Practice forgiveness and letting go: Release any negative emotions or thoughts and focus on moving forward.

It's okay to feel stressed, and it's important to acknowledge and validate your emotions. By incorporating these strategies into your daily life, you can better manage stress and maintain a positive outlook.

Nairaland / General / Effective Anger Management: T. M. Ogboye by Illume: 4:45am On Mar 31
Effective Anger Management: T. M. Ogboye

Anger Connotes Insanity; it is the cousin of madness.
Anger is an aggressive emotion capable of significant damage, which is why you must learn to manage and control it effectively. Feelings of dissatisfaction, frustration and unhappiness leads to anger and these sensations usually arise because of disliking someone or an unfavourable situation or perhaps innuendoes used against you.

Anger elicits a negative reaction that is detrimental to physical and mental health and social status. I have seen highly literate and well-meaning folks lose it in the spotlight of public attention because their temper got the better of them. I have done unspeakable and foolish things, and taken wrong decisions due to anger, and this had cost me alot.

Moses once referred to as the meekest (humblest) man on earth, yet could not enter into the Promise Land because he failed to militate against his preponderance of angry outbursts. Anger must be avoided in totality if one wishes to be successful and prosperous.

How to Avoid Anger:
1. Avoid places, gatherings and situations that can make you angry
2. Don’t argue, if a conversation is turning into an argument, shut your mouth up or leave that environment
3. Don’t be around friends that criticize, mock or make fun of you
5. Thinking/Reasoning; if you are aware of the drawbacks of anger, you will not get angry. You should think more positively and avoid negative thoughts
6. Always listen and think before you speak, do not talk much.
Nairaland / General / Was Jesus Christ A Christian?: T. M. Ogboye by Illume: 4:36am On Mar 31
#Was Jesus Christ A Christian?

#A father doesn't bear the name of his children, it is the children that bears the name of their father as a form of identity.

"Was Jesus A Christian?"
It may sound strange to say, but no, Jesus was not a Christian.

A Christian is a person who has faith in Jesus Christ as his or her Lord and Savior (Romans 10:9–10). Jesus is the foundation for the Christian faith, but, based on the definition of the word, He could not Himself be called a Christian. Christianity is built upon His identity as the Son of God (John 19:7), His perfect life (Hebrews 4:15), and His substitutionary death and resurrection for the forgiveness of sins (2 Corinthians 5:21).

#Jesus did not come into the world to start another religion. The world has more than enough religions. He came to complete the work of God in redeeming sinful mankind (Galatians 4:4). He came to defeat our enemy, Satan (Genesis 3:15; John 12:31). He came to seek and to save the lost (Luke 19:10). He came to fulfill the righteous requirements of the law (Matthew 5:17). He came to establish a new covenant between God and mankind (Mark 14:24). He came “to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good” (Titus 2:14).

#Christianity is the result of Christ’s finished work of salvation, and He now builds His church (Matthew 16:18). Christianity is not a religion in this sense: religion is man’s attempt to reach up to God, but Christianity teaches that God has reached down to man. The Son of God, the second Person of the Trinity, took on human flesh and, during His time on earth, was literally God reaching out to us (John 1:14; 3:16–18).

#Jesus was not a Christian; He was a Jewish rabbi. Jesus followed the Jewish law God had given to Moses (Matthew 5:17–18). He lived perfectly under the law in order to present Himself as a sacrifice without blemish, acceptable under that law (Leviticus 9:3; 1 Peter 1:18–19; Hebrews 9:13–14). Christianity is the culmination of God’s plan, the completion of what God instigated when He set apart the Hebrew people for Himself (Deuteronomy 7:6–cool. For centuries God had promised that He would send His Messiah to rescue His people and reign over them forever. The coming of Jesus was the fulfillment of that promise.

Another reason that Jesus cannot be called a Christian is that the term Christian was not coined until after His resurrection and ascension into heaven. Believers were first called Christians in the city of Antioch in Syria (Acts 11:22). The term means “little Christs.” It was originally used in a derogatory way, but believers came to embrace it as a badge of honor. Christians today should obey the voice of their Master and still consider themselves “little Christs” in the sense that they imitate the Lord Jesus. Jesus cannot properly be described as a Christian, but He is the Christ from whom Christians get their name.
Nairaland / General / Choose Purpose Over Profit - T. M Ogboye by Illume: 1:34am On Sep 17, 2023
The statement "At times you have to choose purpose over profit. Some profit may last only for the moment while the dividends of purpose may leave a lasting legacy" emphasizes the importance of prioritizing meaningful goals and values over short-term financial gains.

While profit is typically associated with monetary returns and financial success, purpose refers to having a deeper sense of meaning and direction in one's actions. Choosing purpose over profit suggests that there are situations where pursuing a greater purpose, such as making a positive impact on society, personal growth, or contributing to a cause, holds more value than solely focusing on financial gains.

The statement also suggests that the benefits derived from pursuing a purpose-driven path can be long-lasting and have a more profound impact compared to fleeting profits. While profit may bring immediate gratification or material wealth, the dividends or rewards achieved through purposeful endeavors can leave a lasting legacy. This legacy can be in the form of personal fulfillment, positive influence on others, or meaningful contributions to society.

In essence, the statement encourages individuals or businesses to consider the long-term impact, fulfillment, and significance that purpose-driven actions can bring, rather than solely prioritizing short-term financial gains.

Nairaland / General / Darkness Has Never Shone Over Light, Will Never And Cannot - T. M. Ogboye by Illume: 8:27am On Sep 16, 2023
"The light shines through the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it."- St John 1:5.

"Darkness has never shone over light, will never and cannot" - T. M. Ogboye

The statement "Darkness has never shone over light, will never, and cannot" is a metaphorical expression often used to represent the concept that darkness represents negativity, ignorance, or evil, while light represents positivity, knowledge, or goodness. In this context, it suggests that light will always prevail over darkness.

Metaphorically, light is associated with enlightenment, understanding, and positivity, while darkness is associated with ignorance, confusion, or negativity. However, it is important to recognize that this is a figurative concept and not a literal truth.

In reality, darkness and light are physical phenomena that exist in the absence or presence of light. Light illuminates and disperses darkness, but darkness itself is not inherently negative or evil. It is simply the absence of light.

Metaphorically speaking, the concept of light overcoming darkness can serve as a symbol of hope, growth, and progress. It can imply that positive actions, knowledge, and understanding can overcome negative or destructive forces.

Religion / Forgiveness, Love & Humanity: T. M. Ogboye by Illume: 8:22am On Aug 15, 2021
Your love for God is an expression of your love for humanity. The truth is, how you relate to- and with- people determines how much you love God. If I buy a product for 1000 Naira, this reveals the value I have placed on the want or need that drove the purchase of the said product.
God placed so much value on humanity that He gave something so precious to Him, His Son, Jesus Christ to redeem humanity whom He values and requires a relationship with.

Therefore those who love humanity are expressing gratitude to God and are blessed by Him in return.

Love for humanity can only be expressed through giving.

Then God said, “Let Us (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) make man in Our image, according to Our likeness [not physical, but a spiritual personality and moral likeness]; and let them have complete authority over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the cattle, and over the entire earth, and over everything that creeps and crawls on the earth. - Genesis 1:26 AMP.

You are not a biological accident; you are a god created in the image and likeness of God to be a solution to the challenges of the world and to have dominion over your environment.
Many are poor, failing, in lack and want, unable to fulfill their destinies; not because they don’t have what it takes to succeed, but because they haven’t recognized and maximized their God-given inherent abilities, discovered the geographical location God has designated for them to succeed and/or deciphered the right people they need to climb to the top.
Nothing in life is accidental; everything around and within you is designed to give you what you need and want. It is in your power to define what you want or need and use these forces to actualize your dreams and fulfill your purpose here on earth.
What you have is far greater than what you lack, that which you can do is more than that which you can’t. It is easier to succeed than to fail only if you can discover the special and hidden treasures deposited in you by your Creator.

Nairaland / General / #forgiveness Influences Kindness, Happiness And Success: T. M. Ogboye by Illume: 4:26pm On Apr 10, 2020
Forgiveness influences kindness, happiness and success

“Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamour and evil speaking, be put away from you with all malice, and be ye kind one to another, tender hearted, forgiving one to another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you” - Ephesians 4:31–32.

God makes us happy by answering our prayers. It makes our Creator happy when we are doing well. Every father is happy with a child that is doing well. But God is not happy with His children who do not have a forgiving heart. A forgiving spirit is the key to happiness. The Bible has asked us not to be angry, speak evil of others and have malicious attitudes.
Bitterness is like cancer that kills slowly, like a virus that kills gradually by spreading and consuming the individual. It minimizes one’s potentials, destroys reputation and personality, as well as kills relationship. Until you free yourself from bitterness, anger and resentments, the light in you will never shine. No one gets successful in isolation, creating synergies is very vital on your journey to success, but how can you create synergies if you can’t relate effectively with people, due to bitterness, anger, pride etc.
Forgiveness births prosperity while bitterness brings hardship. You can’t chew bitter leaf and expect it to be sweet; rather than doing you good and harming your offender, being bitter and holding grudges against someone is harming and killing you slowly while your offender may be living happily. It is how you treat and pass judgment to others that God will also pass judgment on you (Matthew 7:1-2). Your inability to forgive others for the wrongs done to you is passing judgment on them. Not forgiving your offenders is a sin; God can’t forgive you your sin until you have forgiven others. Rather than holding grudges, you should walk up to that person and tell them their fault(s) and sort out your differences. (Matthew 18:15). Until you forgive your husband, wife, boss, partners, child, relative etc., God will never give you whatever you ask for from Him. It is only when people that are connected are in agreement that God hears their prayers (Matthew 18:19). It is only a fool that will put his/her hands in fire because they are angry. You cannot claim to love those you have resentment and grudges against.

Believe in yourself: Toyin M. Ogboye

Self-belief is trusting in your instincts, gifts, talent, and having the confidence to utilize it appropriately. It is the self-assurance that your visions, dreams, purpose and goals are achievable. Self-esteem and worth are functions of self-belief, the more you believe in yourself, the more your self-esteem and worth increases. Low self-esteem is as a result of lack of self-belief. You can’t be truly happy, love and successful without first believing in yourself.
Self-confidence is doing what you believe is right despite the opposition or criticism. It is the courage to take responsibility for both your rights and wrongs, taking risks and going the extra miles to achieve a desired task. It is those who are aware of their identity that becomes uniquely great in life. Until you are confident of your abilities you can’t utilize them to attain success. For you to control your destiny, you must have a strong belief in yourself. People will never take you serious in life if you lack confidence in yourself.
