So no more youth abi?

The Arsenal still has a "younger" squad compared to other premiership teams. However, we dont have enough depth to hold out for a whole season of premiership games, champions league and the other domestic cups.

@ bumpy john,

Please listen to what Mr Pataki, Akolawole, funkybaby and others have said concerning the working issue. Please dont take chances!!! As long as you have NI, your income can always be traced, except of course you are paid in cash. Working more hours than you are permitted used to be overlooked, but make sure you take a good look at the new visa forms that are being issued from this year.

Etsako negba!!!

I dont think there is anything wrong in Benins/ Ishans or whoever rules the state, as long as they are responsible and accountable. However as almondjoy says, what is the assurance that Mr Adams will not do more damage/steal more than his predecessors? We need to begin to see beyond my clan/tribe/state issue if we will ever progress. Any joy derived from this may be shortlived so no need to be too excited.

Fair play to Man U, they know how to win when it matters. To lose the lead and come back strong, they deserve all the praise they get.

larryA:

Do you know that the attraction you have will be questioned by the situation around you one day, the ladies want a man that will guide and protect them not the one that will be a bag to Carry allways, do not allow your emotional feelings draw you into perpetual bondage for life.

That is a rather immature way of thinking about issues. The ability to "guide" is not merely defined by age. You seem to imply that an older man will always be more sensible than a younger man. Look around you, you will probably find that isn't always the case. I would rather go with a "younger" man who knows what he wants, than an old cargo who is a waste of space. There is no fool like an old fool. If the ability to exercise authority, or simply boost your ego by getting hitched to younger women is what you want, then by all means. knock yourself out. Having said that, some young men unfortunately also never mature, and will thus always act like children and may never become a "man". As long as the young man is not meant to be a toy, then it may work

@ Topic,

Relationships conducted in this day and age are more or less unconventional, alot of people are breaking from stereotypes and finding happiness in previously uncharted paths. I believe age should not be an issue between two matured people. . . key word here is "matured"
Politics / Re: New Speaker Dogded Nysc? by Imani(f): 10:45pm On Nov 07, 2007
While the NYSC was a nice idea at the start, it is however, a flawed project.

Do people really gain much by "serving" apart from those that meet future partners etc?

To make it even more ridiculous, NYSC only applies to citizens that are have gone into further education. What is the sense in that? If it is supposed to be a "national" service, then criteria must be set that allows everyone to partake and not just a selected portion of the population.

Why should the speaker of the house not carry out his duties, because of an NYSC programme that has lost a lot of support from students. Maybe next time national "advisers" will think more deeply before just making certain programmes mandatory.

However, I do agree that the leaders should set the right example at all times. What is the point of publicly supporting the NYSC programme and then appointing someone who hasn't completed his NYSC. A classic case of hypocrisy which has paralysed our country for many decades. Our leaders talk about good healthcare system and then travel abroad for treatments both minor and major. The chancellors talk a lot about education, then send their kids abroad to educate them mostly on public money. I wonder when we will actually wake up from our slumber and actually begin to take matters into our own hands.

The government should be decisive, the NYSC should either be maintained or scrapped. We need a decision one way or the other. Indecision is no decision!!

I can't seem to understand the mentality displayed by our "law makers" or rather martial artists undecided.

Must we always resort to violence at every slight provocation? angry

Maybe when more reps start to die during the meaningless free for all fights which can also be resolved by dialogue and people actually standing for truth and justice, rather than being cowards, then maybe they would start to reason like the matured adults they are supposed to be.

"Honourable" senators who are grown men, fighting like area boys, uncouth in attitude are an eyesore.

I wonder what kind of values, if any, they pass on to their children, and more importantly, younger aspirants for political positions.

Lets not be deceived by the nice outfits they wear, most of the senators are a disgrace to the nation.

Politics / Re: Why It May Take Eternity For Nigeria To Move Forward by Imani(f): 7:49pm On Aug 22, 2007
Afam:

Baffles me how positive changes being experienced right now in Nigeria is being watered down by some Nigerians especially those living outside Nigeria.

Who is afraid of a better Nigeria? Sometimes it seems that Nigerians living outside Nigeria prefer to see Nigeria remain backward.

Yar'adua is in charge of the train and he does not intend to apply the brakes until he takes Nigeria to its destination or close to it.

If you can't live with the reality today, kindly take up foreign nationality and leave Nigeria alone, enough of the bad mouthing.

I speak for myself, i would like to see a forward and progressive Nigeria. Nigerians in the diaspora seem to be quickly accused of not supporting the country. That is just generalisation. I see more nigerians in Nigeria say lots of negative things. That is not to say there are no bad eggs on both sides.
The fact we are abroad and have a chance to see how "things are done" maybe makes some more critical of the government and the electorate. As long as criticisms are positive, they should be taken on board.

In terms of living the reality, do you know that many of the so-called leaders that are supposed to move the nation forward have many of thier relatives as foreign citizens too and some of them sponsor their loved ones with the country's money? Please do not believe everything you see or hear. When Yaradua was ill before the elections, he had to travel out to get a check up. Imagine that, does that mean he has no faith in the medical facilities including the ones run by the government?

Please, let us criticise fairly. Nigeria is making progress at least with successive "elections" with minimal problems, never mind the validity of the elections. But we are having a go and trying to make things work. Nigeria will be great again. . .it will just take time and requires commitment from the leaders and all Nigerians whether in nigeria or elsewhere.

Vicjustice:

Imani, i've always respected you, and i regard your thoughtful posts. But, i must admit that i'm beginning to get upset with you for your undue accusations based on your suspicions.
1. By the way, what makes it hard for you to believe that i could have a friend in Nairaland?
2. Would it interest you to realise that you're a close correspondent (in this forum) with my own brother in Canada?
Well, it's not an ideal to identify him to you, anyway.
I was considerate enough to tell about Armedlion, but you're rather getting on my nerves: I respect you, and i'd expect you to do the same. Goodday

1. If, that is the case, then i apologise for my claims. But i am sure you will agree the fact that the exchanges were getting a bit out of hand, and it was hard to distinguish the two identities especially as both were taking on one person. That is not to say that funkybaby wasn't rude as well.  The point is we are adults most of us anyway on this forum and should treat each other as such.

2. I am surpised i am a "close correspondent" to somebody on nairaland. I only have a few people that i keep in touch with outside nairaland. the only nairalander that i know that is based in canada, is your brother? shocked. Oh well, it is a small world.

Once again, sorry for my accusations if untrue.
Travel / Re: Funkybaby Help Pls! by Imani(f): 12:11pm On Aug 22, 2007
@ Funkybaby, Armed lion or is it Vicjustice?

Please everyone should calm down. The original poster wanted "advice" from funkybaby. So how come all of a sudden Armed Lion appeared and attacked Funky when she had previously had issues with Vicjustice.

I stand to be corrected again. I noticed Vicjustice and Armed lion were always contributing in the same threads and more important had the same writing style. Of course Vicjustice denied being Armed lion and claimed armed lion was his "friend". So which one is it? Vicjustice or Armed lion?

So, the point of my sermon is this, if either of you has a problem with one poster, the other doesnt need to join in.
