Jorginho crowned UEFA

Jorginho has been crowned UEFA's Player of the Year following his double European triumph.


The 29-year-old Italian midfielder won the Champions League final with Chelsea before helping Italy to Euro glory as they became Euro 2020 champions.


And on Thursday, August 26, he completed a hat-trick of accolades as he was crowned UEFA's best player of last season.


The midfielder beat Chelsea team-mate N'Golo Kante and Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne to the top prize.


Chelsea's No 5's big moment was officially announced during Thursday's Champions League group-stage draw.


Jorginho said: 'I've very sorry I can't be there at his important moment due to the restrictions but I wanted to say that I'm very happy with this award.


'I would like to say thank to you all the people who made their contribution to making this happen, a big thanks from the heart to all the people who helped me on this journey, from family to friends, to the supporters and my teammates and to people who didn't believe in me.


'They motivated me to work even more so thanks to them as well. I've very happy, a hug to everybody.'



Jorginho, Kante, and De Bruyne had made the final three-man shortlist ahead of the likes of Lionel Messi and Robert Lewandowski.

Singer Katherine Jenkins was left shaken up and in tears after she intervened in a street robbery, only to then fall victim to a mugging herself.
The 39-year-old was on her way to perform at the Straubenzee Memorial charity carol service at St Luke's Church when she witnessed a street theft in London yesterday. She had been walking down King's Road in Chelsea at about 3.15pm, on her way to the event, and witnessed an old woman being mugged.
Jenkins then stepped in to help the woman, in what witnesses described as an "extremely violent" incident.

As a result of her intervention, she was mugged too.
The singer was visibly close to tears as she waited for officers to arrive at the scene. When police arrived, she helped them to identify the thieves. She was seen giving details to the officers as shoppers walked by.

Two 15-year-old girls were arrested on suspicion of robbery, the Metropolitan Police said.
Three officers led away one suspect wearing a hooded jumper and trainers, who appeared to be protesting. A second girl wearing glasses was also seen in handcuffs near the scene as police spoke to her by the entrance to a building. One of the suspected attackers was then put in the back of a van, which drove off with its lights flashing.

EFCC's first witness in the trial of Naira Marley has said he was not involved in the singer's case investigation.

Premium Times reports that the first witness called by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in the trial of popular music act, Azeez Fashola aka Naira Marley, has denied being involved in the investigation of the matter.
Nuhu Buhari, the head of the forensic department, EFCC, Lagos zonal office, said this during cross-examination by the defence counsel, Olalekan Ojo, on Thursday.
The EFCC arraigned Naira Marley on an 11-count charge of conspiracy, possession of counterfeit cards and fraud.
Mr Buhari, while being cross-examined before Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court in Lagos, said he only did a forensic analysis of devices presented to him.
“Apart from the digital forensic examination, I did not play any role during the investigation of this case. ”
He also agreed to the statement of Mr Ojo that he was not specifically asked to investigate the ownership of the device but he did so because it was a part of the standard procedure for analysis.
“I was never instructed to investigate the ownership of the device but my standard is that I confirm the ownership of the device.”

Mr Ojo then argued that Mr Buhari had no right to tell the court that the owner of the device is Azeez Fashola. But Mr Buhari disagreed, maintaining that he can.
Mr Ojo then asked the witness if the name Azeez Fashola appeared anywhere in his report marked exhibit E. Mr Buhari answered “No.”
Mr Ojo also asked if the witness would confirm as a communication technology expert that a computer device can be set up with particulars as desired by the purchaser.
Mr Buhari confirmed this and the counsel went ahead to suggest that anybody could have set up their device, using the name Naira Marley, a question Mr Buhari promptly answered with “of course.”
Questioning the choice of words used in filling the report, Mr Ojo asked the witness to define what it means in his kind of profession to use certain words, including ‘obvious’ and ‘appears’.
In response, Mr Buhari explained that ” appears doesn’t connote certainty. Appearance in tech is not a certainty. Something can appear this way but it’s not exactly like that.”
Following up, Mr Ojo asked the witness to read page 6, line 10 of his forensic report marked as exhibit E. It reads:
“Finally, based on the analysis of the device, it appears that the user purchased credit card information from the sites analysed and used them for online shopping.”
The cross-examination was interrupted by an argument amongst lawyers over sitting space in court which led to the adjournment of the matter at the instance of the court to December 11 and 12 for the continuation of cross-examination of the prosecution witness.
During the examination in chief at the last hearing, Mr Buhari had informed the court that stolen credit cards information were found on a laptop alleged to belong to Mr Fashola. He also told the court that some of the card information was cards which allowed cardless transactions without requiring a pin for transactions up to $12,000 with only the card number and the Security.
He had also informed the court that the five most visited sites were sites where stolen credit card information could be sold and bought.
Naira Marley is being prosecuted by the EFCC on an 11-count charge of conspiracy, possession of counterfeit cards and fraud.
His co-defendant is one Yad Isril, said to still be at large.
He was arraigned on May 20 and pleaded not guilty to all the counts.
He was also granted bail of N2 million with two sureties in like sum.
According to the charge, the defendant committed the offences on different dates, November 26, 2018, December 11, 2018, and May 10.
The defendants allegedly conspired to use different Access Bank ATM cards to defraud their victims.
They allegedly used Access Card number 5264711020433662 issued to other persons, in a bid to obtain fraudulent financial gains.
Naira Marley was said to have possessed these counterfeit credit cards, belonging to different cardholders, with intent to defraud, and which also constituted theft.
The offences contravene the provisions of Section 1 23 (1) (b), 27 (1}, 33, 33(9) Cyber Crime (Prohibition) Prevention Act, 2015.

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, has alerted the United States and the United Kingdom to the alleged plans by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to collude with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to rig the November 16 governorship election.

He also raised concerns over intelligence reports indicating that the main opposition party was planning to intimidate voters and unleash violence during the election.

Diri spoke on Wednesday in Yenagoa after meetings with officials of the US Embassy and the British High Commission.

The US delegation was led by the Consul General, Claire Pierangelo, while the Second Secretary (Political), Mr. Sarabjit Singh, led the British High Commission team.

The Director, Media and Publicity Committee of the PDP Campaign Council, Dr. Jonathan Obuebite, in a statement quoted Diri as saying that the APC is not planning for a free, fair and transparent election, but rather plotting to intimidate, threaten and kill voters.

“They are planning to collude with INEC to undermine democracy in our state. All that we hear is that the APC already has the result sheets, which will be filled in and that INEC will only announce those results already written.

“We also hear that the APC will use the military as they did in Rivers State during the governorship election where soldiers were drafted in to intimidate voters and a lot of people were killed.

We hear that the APC will collude with INEC to ensure that Bayelsa is taken by force whether the people like it or not.

“These are very serious concerns for us. So, we urge you to send your observers like you have always done.

All we are asking for is a free, fair and transparent election. This is why we are connecting and campaigning with the people as well as lobbying them.

We do not want violence or crisis. Elections are not for the use of guns but the ballot.”
The PDP standard-bearer further alleged that the APC was recruiting militants and criminals within and outside the state to unleash violence and ensure they get a result that is favourable to them.

He stressed the importance of a credible poll, noting that the PDP was a peaceful party that had produced a former president from the state, produced all the governors of the state and is poised to repeat the same feat on November 16.

“All that we are appealing for and want is a level-playing field, for INEC to be fair and the security agencies to be professional in handling the electoral processes,” Diri said.

World famous footballer, Cristiano Ronaldo's DNA has matched the evidence of his r*pe case.

Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo’s DNA matched evidence collected in the rape case against him in America, according to a report from English tabloid The Sun UK.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner was accused by American citizen Kathryn Mayorga of rape last year, which she claims took place in a hotel room in Las Vegas in 2009.

The criminal case, which has since been dropped, was widely publicised, with the 34-year-old Portuguese forward protesting his innocence on social media following the accusation.

Among the 100 emails sent between police and criminal prosecutors in America, Las Vegas detective Jeffrey Guyer said that “DNA is back and is a match”, referring to the Juventus star.

The Bianconeri vowed last year to support Ronaldo and discredited the claims, suggesting that he is a professional.

Last month the Portuguese star told British media personality Piers Morgan that he was embarrassed about the allegations and protested his innocence once again.

The former Red Devils boss felt the way his old side set up at Old Trafford did not help the Premier League leaders to play their best football.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp "didn't like the menu" Manchester United served up in a 1-1 Premier League draw at Old Trafford on Sunday, according to Jose Mourinho.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side continued to frustrate the leaders, who saw a potential equaliser from Sadio Mane ruled out following a video review, but were unable to hold on for a win as Adam Lallana tapped in with five minutes remaining.

Former United boss Mourinho felt Solskjaer's game plan and three-man defence troubled Klopp, with Liverpool unable to match a Premier League record with an 18th win in succession.

"[Klopp] didn't like the menu - he wanted meat and got fish," Mourinho said on Sky Sports.

"They are happy playing against opposition who give chances on the counterattack. Of course, United, with the limitations they have at the moment, played a different profile of game.

"They tried to stop the transition, played always with three centre-backs in position, always compact. Liverpool didn't like the menu.

"Liverpool missed the quality to play against a low block. I have to admit I'm really happy they didn't win because the other record [Chelsea's nine-match winning streak to start a season in 2005-06] is mine, not theirs.

"Sometimes they have limitations against teams with the low block. They have fantastic results but sometimes they win just in the limits.

"They can smash opponents who play the way they want to play against. Jurgen, clearly a bit of frustration. Old Trafford is a special place for Liverpool to win but he's never done it."

Former Liverpool captain and manager Graeme Souness, meanwhile, felt there was a lack of ‘cuteness’ from the visitors’ midfield trio of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum.

Souness said: "Liverpool have a midfield that will outwork anyone, but they got outworked in the first half which is very unusual.

"When they get to the last third, they haven't really got any cuteness in the midfield but what they do have is workaholics, with Fabinho, Henderson and Wijnaldum.

"That's why they huffed and puffed for large periods today as United sat so deep. It's very harsh to be too critical on the Liverpool midfield."

David Luiz has opened up on the “honest” talks with Frank Lampard, before leaving Chelsea for Arsenal.

The Brazilian swapped Stamford Bridge for the Emirates in the summer, following the appointment of his ex-Blues teammate, Lampard.

Luiz insists the decision to leave Chelsea was made before Arsenal declared their interest in him, despite only penning fresh terms in west London in May.

“I decided to leave Chelsea before there was contact with Arsenal,” he told The Telegraph.

“People do not know that but I decided early to leave Chelsea. After that I had contact with Arsenal and I took a decision which everybody knows was not easy.

“Me and Lampard, we had honest conversations. Man to man, me and him. His ideas of football were different to mine. We just agreed: ‘OK, we move on’. In an honest way, in a mature way.

“We played together, we won together. We won the Champions League, the Europa League, everything together. It was done in a mature way.”
