You currently have 300,000 Nigerian refugees living in Niger. You did not consider that before sending the NAF to attack Niger. What is the fate of those 300,000 Nigerians whom you couldn't protect?

If the Nigerièns use them for reprisal, what will happen? Una dey craze?

Politics / Sit-at-home Order: Shops Shut In Imo by Insecurity(m): 3:14pm On Jul 31, 2023
Sit-at-home order: Shops shut in Imo

Shop owners and traders on Monday shut their businesses in Imo state, in obedience to the sit-at-home order of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, led by Simon Ekpa.

At the time of filing this story, it was gathered in Owerri, that the streets were empty.

In doing this, they ignored the state government’s order of threatening to close down shops that obeyed the sit-at-home order of the IPOB.

Not only that, banks, eatery outfits, supermarkets, and transportation companies also closed shops. Some filling stations could not open for business.

Affected areas, included the streets of Ikenegbu, Mbari, Egbu, Orji. Also, the Owerri-Port Harcourt road, Owerri-Onitsha road, Owerri-Aba road among others.

Some of the residents who spoke they “attributed the cause of the sit-at-home to fear of attack by hoodlums who usually attack residents for not obeying sit-at-home order. They will come shoot and escape freely. We are afraid.”

“Just like the one that happened at Akwakuma area located at Orlu road. Two people were reportedly killed. We all saw it. The hoodlums finished operation and they went back to their base.

“We need full assurance of the security of lives and properties. We want to be in a safe environment. It is not only the government telling us to come out what are the measures put in place to protect the people anytime there is an attack,” they said.

Tinubu Not A Magician, APC Did Not Promise ‘Miracle,’ Says Oshiomhole
“They know they were not electing a magician. And nobody promised a magical solution."

Adams Oshiomhole is urging Nigerians to be patient with President Bola Tinubu’s government, saying the former Lagos State governor is not a “magician” that will solve the country’s problems in one fell swoop.

He spoke as a guest on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.

“They know they were not electing a magician. And nobody promised a magical solution,” he said.

“You don’t need to give me an example. I know what we (APC) promised more than you who was reporting it. Whatever you reported, we were the source. We did not promise a 24-hour solution. We did not promise miracles. We did not promise an overnight solution.

“You show me any document that says in 48 hours, this will be done. In 14 days, this should be done. In 21 days, this should be done,” the Senator representing Edo North argued.

“I think you are the one who has the illusion that once a promise is made, automatically once you get into office, either spiritually or by miracles, solutions will emerge,” the former Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) president said.

Criminal Wage’
According to him, what Nigeria needs is a courageous leader and Tinubu is that person. The former governor said since the removal of subsidy on petrol, the president has taken steps to address the impacts of the decision.

“What Nigeria needs is what President Tinubu has demonstrated – the courage to make decisions and to be humble to admit some of the unintended consequences of those decisions, and, the will to deal with those consequences,” he said. “And he has put in place instruments to deal with them.”

Oshiomhole also faulted the N30,000 minimum wage in the country, describing it as a “criminal wage”.

“What we call minimum wage is a criminal wage,” he said. “If you exchange N30,000 at N800 or N700 to the dollar, what does that translate to? So, the value of that minimum wage when it was N125 – when it was first introduced under, I think, (Shehu) Shagari’s government – is about two times or three times the value many years later, even in the public service.”

Politics / Despite Govt’s Assurance, Enugu, Imo Residents Observe Ipob’s ‘sit-at-home’ Orde by Insecurity(m): 8:55am On Jul 18, 2023
Despite govt’s assurance, Enugu, Imo residents observe IPOB’s ‘sit-at-home’ order

Residents of Enugu metropolis and its environs yesterday complied with IPOB’s Monday sit-at-home despite assurances from security agents and the state government.

The Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, had told the residents that there is no such thing as a sit-at-home on Mondays or any other day; hence they should defy the order.
Mbah also lamented that N10 billion is lost every Monday due to the sit-at-home order enforced by a faction of the Indigenous People of Biafra in the South-East.

In a recent development, it was observed yesterday that banks, filling stations, schools, shops, and major commercial transport companies were all shut.

A resident who preferred anonymity stated, “Ordering workers to work on Mondays is not the problem, but the means of coming is difficult. Commercial drivers don’t work today because of lack of passengers.”
Greg Ezike, a retired civil servant, said, “The only way to end this is the unification of South-East governors to negotiate Kanu’s release. If the Appeal Court has acquitted and released him, why are they still keeping him there? That is why people are angry. Our governors are not committed to his release.”

For Uche Okafor, a trader,” Gov Peter Mbah has done well, but the spirit of the residents is low.

“Using force on the people to work and do business on Mondays will likely not succeed. Difficulties in the land are also contributing to the inactivity of the people,” he said.

Imo shut down

In Imo State, economic activities yesterday were shut down by the sit-at-home order of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

It was gathered within and outside the Owerri metropolis that a good number of the residents stayed at home.
The reason was because of the reports of killings, burning of vehicles, houses, and threats. Banks, shops and other businesses were shut. The movement of motorists was limited and the roads were scanty.

At the time of filing this report, the affected areas were Owerri-Aba Road, Owerri-Port Harcourt, and Owerri-Onitsha Road among others. The Mbari, Wethedral, Egbu, and densely populated Orji roads experienced little or no activities.

Politics / Many Kwara Communities Rely On Dirty Water Sources Shared With Animals As Over 7 by Insecurity(m): 6:39pm On Jul 17, 2023
Many Kwara Communities Rely On Dirty Water Sources Shared With Animals As Over 70% Of Residents Lack Clean Water, Electricity, Primary Education –Report

A larger percentage of residents of Kwara State have no access to basic amenities as should be provided by the government, a report by the Elites Network for Sustainable Development has revealed.
According to the report, many communities in the state have no access to clean water, electricity and primary education.

The report sampled 2,810 communities across the three senatorial districts in the state. 944 communities were assessed in Kwara Central, while 1,105 and 761 communities were visited in Kwara North and Kwara South respectively.

Kwara State has a population of 3,259,613 people, according to the National Bureau of Statistics 2016 data.

The report revealed that residents of communities where any form of water facility can’t be found rely on other distant communities for access to potable water. Most of these communities also rely on dirty and unfit groundwater sources shared with animals.

It was disclosed that many of the communities visited were littered with uncompleted and abandoned boreholes, roads, and electricity projects.

The data showed that 342 communities across the state have no access to clean water with communities in Kwara North hugely affected.

“A total of 146 communities were without any water facility in Kwara North senatorial district, out of which 81 (55.48%) were in Moro LGA, 14 (959%) were in Patigi LGA, 5 (3.43%) were in Edu LGA, 4 (2.74%) were in Baruten LGA, and 42 (28.77%) were in Kaiama LGA. A total of 852 communities had existing boreholes that were no longer functional and needed to be repaired.

“80 communities in Kwara South had no access to water due to the non-existence of an infrastructure for it. It is important to note that fifty-four (67.50%) of these communities were in lfelodun LGA, 15 (18.75%) of the communities were in lrepodun LGA, 6 (75%) communities were in lsin LGA, 4 (5.0%) communities were in Oyun LGA, and 1 (1.25%) community was in Offa LGA. A total of 447 communities in Kwara South with existing boreholes had trouble accessing adequate potable water due to damage to their boreholes.

“In Kwara Central, 116 communities across the four LGAs in the district had no existing water facility. This senatorial burden was carried by 109 (93.97%) communities in Asa LGA, 6 (5.17%) communities in llorin East LGA, and 1 (0.86%) community in llorin South LGA. In another seven hundred and seventy-two (772) communities visited within the district, there were damaged boreholes that needed to be repaired in order to keep serving the communities,” the data stated.

The data revealed a worsening situation in the area of electricity as 922 communities have no access to electricity and been cut away from power supply in the state.

“A total of 508 communities were without any electrification facility in Kwara North senatorial district, out ofwhich 241 (47.41%) were in Moro LGA, 92 (18.11%) were in Patigi LGA, 27 (5.31%) were in Edu LGA, 103 (20.28%) were in Baruten LGA, and 45 (8.86%) were in Kaiama LGA.

“A total of 133 communities in Kwara South senatorial district did not have any electrification facility and had never been connected to electricity source.

“A total of two hundred and eighty-one (281) communities in the district had been in darkness for decades, as there were no electrification facilities in the areas. This senatorial burden was shared by all the LGAs in the district, though mostly by Asa LGA that had 259 (92.17%) of such communities,” the report revealed.

The situation is not so different in the education sector as 602 communities have no access to primary education while 1,559 communities have no secondary education facility.

Kwara North is mostly affected with pupils from 272 communities having to walk a long mile to attend primary and school due to the poor state of education in the state.

Also, in regards to primary health, 1,801 communities lack access to primary health care centres.

“A total of 272 communities in Kwara North had no primary school. A total of 771 communities in Kwara North had no secondary school.

“A total of 75 communities in Kwara South senatorial district had no primary school. A total of 322 communities in Kwara South senatorial district had no secondary school

“255 communities in Kwara Central had no primary school. Invariably, the citizen had to depend on the nearby community's primary school to get access to primary education. A total of 466 communities in Kwara Central had no secondary school. Invariably, dwellers, after completing their primary school education, had to seek secondary school education elsewhere.

“Out of 1,105 communities assessed by our team in the Kwara North senatorial district, a total of 896 (representing 81%) communities lacked access to primary health care centres.

“The outlook of healthcare in communities is quite worrisome in Kwara South with 316 communities lacking easy access to primary health centres to cater for their medical needs.

“589 communities in Kwara Central do not have primary health centre and have difficulty in assessing distant ones,” the report revealed.

Politics / Don’t Fall For Ipob’s Antics, Kanu Must Face Trial, CNG Tells Tinubu by Insecurity(m): 3:19pm On Jul 16, 2023
Don’t fall for IPOB’s antics, Kanu must face trial, CNG tells Tinubu

The Coalition of Northern Groups, CNG, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu not to fall for the antics of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, insisting that the leader of IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu must face trial.

CNG in a statement on Saturday by its spokesperson, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, lamented the level of insecurity plaguing the south-eastern part of Nigeria, calling on the federal authorities to resist campaigns of blackmail using Kanu’s release as a precondition for sustainable peace in the land.

Suleiman further charged the federal authorities to disregard the unpatriotic calls by the Igbo leaders for Kanu’s release, and to remain resolute in seeing through his prosecution.

The statement read: “The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has taken stock of events unfolding in Nigeria, noting especially, the unrelenting disturbances created by certain interest groups in the South-East, ignited and incessantly fanned and executed through the force of arms and terrorist tactics by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and co-authors of mindless violence and separatism.

“CNG has carefully watched and studied these events and actions being perpetrated against the Nigerian state, against Nigerians collectively, and against northerners in particular, with considerable restraint and maturity.

“Of late however, is the brutal enforcement of a week-long illegal stay-at-home order that mostly affects other Nigerians living as minorities in South-eastern communities, and the renewed resolve by Igbo leaders and elders to secure the unconditional release of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu. Matters have reached a point whereby silence has become complicity and inaction no longer an option.

“The Federal authorities must resist the Igbo campaign of blackmail using Kanu’s release as a precondition for sustainable peace in the land; and to ask the following questions: How would the relations of the over 500 personnel of the various paramilitary organs who were indiscriminately attacked and killed while on duty posts at various checkpoints as a result of the incitement by Kanu.

“As the Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces how and what words would Mr President use to encourage and retain other officers and men of the various forces if the man who incited the killing of their colleagues were to be released without even a trial?”

The statement questioned further: “What would be the status of the families and community members of those killed, dispossessed or displaced as a result of the hate campaigns and propaganda conducted by Nnamdi Kanu and sponsored by his regional and ethnic collaborators?

How would the authorities react were other regions and people to be encouraged to take the law into their hands in the same manner as Kanu and IPOB?

What would Nigeria become if leaders and elders of other ethnicities chose to shied their errant sons from justice by demanding their unconditional release from custody?

“We call on the federal authorities to disregard the unpatriotic calls by the Igbo leaders for Kanu’s release, and to remain resolute in seeing through his prosecution along with his sponsors, backers and collaborators for the heinous crimes against the Nigerian state and innocent Nigerian citizens; so as not to set the wrong precedent of regional leaders interfering with the course of justice.

“We remind the President that by acceding to the demands for Kanu’s release, his government would be exposed to questions as to the status of the innocent Nigerian citizens of other regions killed, dispossessed and displaced as a result of Kanu’s incitement.

Hence, we call on the Federal Government to intensify ongoing action to disband all militias and armed groups in the South-East and other parts of Nigeria, by resorting to the use of force if need be, to ensure that no group has the capacity to challenge the state in its prerogative to maintain law and order, and protect citizens’ lives and properties.”

Politics / Seychelles Banned Nigerians Over Bad Image Of Drug-trafficking, Internet Fraud: by Insecurity(m): 9:24am On Jul 15, 2023
Seychelles banned Nigerians over bad image of drug-trafficking, internet fraud: Vice President Ahmed Afif
Nigeria’s drug

Vice President Ahmed Afif of Seychelles has confirmed his country’s decision to impose far-reaching restrictions on Nigerians seeking to travel to the West Indian Ocean country.

Mr Afif said his Seychelles immigration authorities had been instructed to permit Nigerians with diplomatic passports and residential permits access into the country. Nigerians seeking to enter Seychelles as tourists or new immigrants have been banned indefinitely, the vice president said, according to Seychelles News Agency.

Mr Afih said his country was able to link Nigerians to numerous criminal activities, especially drug-trafficking and online fraud syndicates.

“We have seen a clear link between this with certain people from Nigeria. In the past two weeks, for example, 13 people coming from Nigeria have been arrested when entering Seychelles because they were carrying drugs into the country,” Mr Afif said per Seychelles News Agency. “In one case, 62 Nigerians who said they were on holiday used false credit cards and the money was never credited to the accounts of these establishments.
These establishments have lost money. These people spent free holidays in the country at the expense of the establishment owners, and there is nothing that can be done for them,” he added.

Mr Afif’s comments came days after controversy broke out on social media after some Nigerians alleged being denied visas for no tenable reasons by Seychelles. Nigeria has faced visa bans from other countries in recent months, including the United Arab Emirates, which added the West African nation to a list of 17 African countries not welcome.

Nigeria’s drug-trafficking perception spanned several decades, but it was recently amplified around the world after the country elected Bola Tinubu as president. Mr Tinubu, 71, was accused of doing drugs and money laundering in the United States in the 1990s.

He was ordered to forfeit about $460,000 by a federal judge in Chicago, after the funds were traced directly to drug dealing. He has not denied the allegations, but relentlessly avoided answering related questions until he was successfully elected president of Nigeria in February 2023.
It was unclear whether Seychelles authorities considered Mr Tinubu’s background in drug business before imposing the broad restrictions on Nigerians this week.

Mr Afif said Seychelles does not necessarily have any issues with Nigeria and Nigerians, saying the country was only concerned and needed to do something about a recent spike in criminal activities linked to Nigerians.

“We do not have a problem with Nigeria or its people though we do not tolerate such criminal activities in our country,” Mr Afif said. “There are other online scams originating from Nigeria. We have seen that these people are also coming to Seychelles and doing those scams.”

“When we checked the payments made for them to come to Seychelles, it is from only one source. This is for different people coming on different days, which shows an organised syndicate,” the vice president said, adding that some Nigerians recently swindled some institutions for up to one million pounds.

A spokesman for the Nigerian foreign ministry did not immediately return a request seeking comments, but the Seychelles media said a meeting between the country’s foreign minister Sylvestre Radegonde and the Nigerian ambassador there had been scheduled over the matter.

Mob Beats Butcher To Death Over Alleged Blasphemy In Nigeria’s Sokoto State

Abutcher identified as Usman Buda has been killed in Sokoto, Northwest Nigeria for allegedly blaspheming Prophet Muhammad.

According to Daily Trust, the butcher allegedly made the comment during an argument with another trader at the Sokoto main Abattoir around 8 am on Sunday.

“Our leaders made a fruitless attempt to save him but they could not contain the crowd. They initially rescued him and hid him before they were overpowered.

“He was beaten to death by his fellow butchers. His corpse was later taken away by the police,” an eyewitness told Daily Trust.

Another account said some of Buda’s closest business partners who attempted to rescue him sustained injuries and “are currently receiving treatment at the hospital”.

The deceased reportedly hailed from Tambuwal local government area but resided at Gidan Igwe in Sokoto North local government area.

He sold cow entrails at the Sokoto Fish and Vegetables Market.

One of his neighbours identified as Malam Yusuf described his death as painful.

“Usman is my immediate neighbour. He is very religious; in fact, he belonged to Izala sect. We prayed and attended Tafsir together at primary board quarters. There is no way he could make such a statement against the Holy Prophet.

“There must be a reason behind his murder because he is very popular in his business of selling cow entrails and was envied by many of his colleagues,” he said.

A trader who sells perishable goods at Kasuwan Dankure meat and vegetable market whose stand was next to that of Buda also expressed shock over the tragic incident.

“I have not been myself since I heard about what happened. I know Usman liked arguments on religious issues but I didn’t hear him even for once using derogatory remarks against the Prophet’s companions,” he said

However, the specific statement made by Buda which was considered to be blasphemous was not stated in the report.

Meanwhile, the state police command has confirmed the mob killing.

The command said it received a distress call at about 9:20 am that one Usman Buda of Gwandu local government area, a “butcher at Sokoto Abattoir allegedly blasphemed the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and as a result, he was mobbed and attacked”.

“Upon receiving the information, the Commissioner of Police, Area Commander Metro and DPO Kwanni led a team of policemen and all other operational commanders to the scene.

“On arrival, the mob escaped the scene and left the victim unconscious where he was rescued and taken to Usmanu Danfodiyo Teaching Hospital Sokoto (UDUTH) for treatment and was later confirmed dead,” a statement signed by the spokesperson for the police command, ASP Ahmad Rufa’I, said.

“Meanwhile, Investigation is on to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to book,” it added

In May 2022, SaharaReporters reported how a female student of Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto, Deborah Samuel, was burnt to death by her colleagues for allegedly insulting Prophet Muhammad.

She was beaten and killed by Muslim students who dragged her out of her hostel.

Meanwhile, her gruesome murder was connected to a voice note the deceased sent to her class WhatsApp group.

According to a Twitter link as seen by SaharaReporters, the female student was said to have sent a voice note, protesting against the incessant sending of ‘unnecessary messages’ to the group by her mates.

Her death attracted the outrage of many Nigerians including the Sultan of Sokoto State, who condemned the unwarranted attack and called on the police to investigate and arrest the perpetrators.

However, over a year after her gruesome murder, the police have yet to arrest any of her killers.

Tinubu Fails To Join Live Economic Session On Stage At Paris Summit, Delegates Task To Nigerian Ambassador

President Bola Tinubu was represented by the Nigerian ambassador to France in a live economic session at the ongoing summit of world leaders in Paris.

The Peoples Gazette reported on Thursday that Tinubu asked the ambassador to represent him instead even though his office had announced that he was in France to attend the summit and participate in a debate about Africa’s economic prospects.

SaharaReporters exclusively at the weekend reported that Tinubu would engage on his first official trip as Nigerian president since his May 29 inauguration this week.

However, top sources in the presidency also revealed that the president's visit was also a “strategy” to see his team of medical doctors.

“BAT is to attend the Global Financing Pact Summit in Paris, France, next week. This will be his first official trip outside Nigeria since his assumption of duty as President,” one of the top sources disclosed on Saturday.

“The trip is to check his health too. It is a strategy to go to hospital,” another source noted.

SaharaReporters had weeks ago reported how Tinubu, after the May 29 swearing-in became exhausted and travelled to France to seek medical care.

SaharaReporters had also exclusively reported that Tinubu returned to France to see his doctors, weeks before his inauguration on May 29.

Meanwhile, the new global financing pact summit is a two-day event at Palais Brongniart in Paris, and organisers said it was aimed at finding efficient solutions to reduce poverty and the adverse effects of climate change on the world’s financial system.

Tinubu was scheduled to join other participants on stage at 6:00 p.m. local time (7:00 p.m. in Nigeria) on Thursday, with his aides saying he was fully prepared for the event as his first since becoming president on May 29, Peoples Gazette reports.

However, President Tinubu was represented by the Nigerian ambassador Adamu Ahmed, who was on stage with David Craig, co-chair of the task force on nature-related financial disclosures (TNFD); Mark Carney of the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ), Mary Schapiro of global public policy at Bloomberg, Sabine Mauderer of the Network for Greening the Financial System; and United Nations special envoy Catherine Mckenna.

In a prepared speech, Mr Ahmed said: “We believe we’ve more pressing social issues in Africa. The argument has been that world leaders should elevate social issues just like environmental issues. I must commend President Macron who has brought the issue of poverty to the table. This summit is about climate, people and diversity.

“The severe financial and economic crisis that African countries found themselves in after COVID-19 is all over. There are economic difficulties, and we’ve all realized that public resources would no longer solve the problem, we need to track private capital and for us to track the capital, and we need to compete with other countries around the world.

“It is no longer business as usual for African countries, we now need to join the discourse. We need to compete with the rest of the world. We welcome the idea of President Macronto develop Net-Zero Data Public Utility (NZDPU) because we feel it is an open free repository that will greatly help African countries.

“The message from the African continent is that we are on board, we want to join the international community. We are now seeing movement from mere commitment to concrete transition plans.

“For example, in Nigeria, we enacted the Climate Change Act in 2021 which enables us to establish the Climate Change Council in which the president (Tinubu) is the head. It enables us to establish a climate change fund and National Action Plan on climate change which clearly reels our road map to the net zero target. We put our target to 2060 because we are aware of the enormous challenges we are confronting. We have tried to form regional partnerships as African countries.”

Nigeria: Muslims slaughter 700 Christians as ‘farewell gifts’ to outgoing president

If one believes that the one true god has commanded such killing (cf. Qur’an 2:191, 4:89, 9:5), then to engage in it is a blessed act, and such killing would be a fitting gift to others who also believe it to be divinely commanded.

“Farewell Gifts To Buhari, Ors: 700 Christians Slaughtered In May, 1,100 In 60 Days And 2,150 In 160 Days Of 2023,” by Emeka Umeagbalasi, International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law, June 12, 2023:

Fulani Jihadists Slaughtered 700 Christians As “Farewell Gifts” To Nigerian Radical Islamic Leaders

The Nigerian radical Islamic leaders who marked the end of their civilian office tenures on 29th May 2023 were wished “farewell” by Jihadist Fulani Herdsmen who marked the end of their office tenures by slaughtering not less than 700 defenseless Christians in May 2023 (month of handover). In a detailed investigation by the International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law, it was gathered that not less than 300 Christians were slaughtered in Plateau State (Mangu county, etc) between 15th and 17th May 2023 alone. The second worst hit State is Benue where not less than 110 Christians were slaughtered in May-early June 2023 including 40 slaughtered between 3rd and 4th June 2023 and 18 defenseless Christians hacked to death on 21st May 2023 as well as 28 others slaughtered between 7th and 10th May 2023. In all, Benue State accounted for over 190 Christian deaths between 12th April and 12th June 2023.

The third worst hit State is Kaduna where not less than 100 Christians were slaughtered between 12th April and 12th June 2023. The out-gone Government of Kaduna State-backed killing of Christians as “farewell gifts” had included slaughtering of 33 Christians by Jihadist Fulani Herdsmen on 15th April 2023 in Runji village in Atyap, Zango Kataf LGA of Kaduna State, during which 42 houses were burned down or destroyed. Between March and April 2023, not less than 68 Christians were slaughtered in Atyap Land alone; with less than 10 Christian school children abducted on 4th April from Government Secondary School Avon in Kachia LGA of Kaduna State who were taken into Jihadists’ captivity. According to the Southern Kaduna Peoples’ Union (SOKAPU), not less than 245 Southern Kaduna communities have been sacked and violently occupied by Fulani Terror Jihadists in six years (2017-2023). In Nassarawa State, no fewer than 38 Christian residents of Takalafia and Gwanja communities in the Karu Local Government Area of the State were hacked to death by terror herdsmen who stormed the area on Thursday night (14th May 2023).

Not less than 1,100 defenseless Christians were hacked to death by Nigerian Government backed Islamic Jihadists in the past 60 days or between 12th April and 12th June 2023; translating to daily average of 17 Christian deaths. The period under review also represents one of the bloodiest in anti Christian attacks in Nigeria. The breakdown of the 1,100 Christian deaths in 60 days (12th April-12th June 2023) shows that Plateau State is the worst hit with 350 Christian deaths, followed by Benue with 200 deaths, Kaduna 100 deaths, Nassarawa 62 deaths, Niger 50 deaths and ethnically and religiously related killings by the Police and Military personnel in the East 50 deaths. There are also 200 Christian deaths representing “dark figures of crimes” including over 80 Christian deaths omitted in places like Kaduna State, covering 1st January to 10th April 2023 and 10% (70 deaths) of the 700 abductees representing those abducted who are incapable of returning to their families alive. Also In two months gone by, not less than 700 Christians were abducted in Kaduna, Niger, Borno, Taraba, Yobe, Adamawa, Benue, Plateau, Kebbi, Nassarawa, Edo, Osun, Kwara, Kogi, FCT, Ondo, Delta, Enugu, Anambra and Abia States. In all, therefore, it has been investigated and found that a total of not less than 2,150 defenseless Christians have been slaughtered by non state actor/Nigerian Government backed Islamic Jihadists in the past 160 days or 1st Jan to 12th June 2023. Over 1,400 others were abducted; out of which 10% or 140 may be incapable of returning to their families alive. Kaduna State top the list of the abducted with at least 700, followed by Niger State with 300.

Ondo communities protest incessant killings, kidnappings by herdsmen

Residents of Ose Local Council Area of Ondo have cried out to the state government to protect them from incessant attacks, killings, destructions and abductions by suspected herdsmen.

The aggrieved residents in a “save our soul” protest to the state secretariat of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Akure, on Thursday, decried how the suspected herdsmen have been terrorising their communities.

They identified the communities as; Ijagba, Imoru Arimogija, Ute, Molege, and Okelusi, among others.

Sunday Ogoh, a spokesperson for the protesting communities, revealed that the unwholesome activities of the armed men have become worrisome.

Mr Ogoh described the attackers as terrorists, saying the residents of the communities, who are mostly farmers could no longer sleep.

“As we speak, we can’t even visit our farms because of these attacks. These gunmen who are herdsmen have taken over everywhere. They always hide by the farm road and swap on our people and abduct them for ransom,” he told reporters.

According to him, their protest was triggered by a fresh attack on one of the residents of the community.

He said the victim, Ohiremen Isaac Odeh, a local farmer in Ijagba, was waylaid and kidnapped by the gunmen and later killed after ransom of four hundred thousand naira.

While stressing that the sad incidents have destabilised the community, Mr Ogoh noted that many residents now live in palpable fear due to threats from the attackers.

“In the last two years, we have lost over 20 community members to the incessant attacks. Aside from Mr Odeh, we lost one of our brothers, Bola Adelegbe to the attacks by the gunmen.

“As a result of this, we are appealing to the state government to give urgently come to our aid. They should give us a strong military base that would be manning our roads to reduce this incessant kidnapping and killings in our communities,” he added.

He further noted that there was a need to allow the state government and the whole world to know what was going on in the affected communities.

Mr Ogoh, however, revealed that the incessant attacks and kidnappings by the gunmen have forced the farmers to abandon their farmlands.

“We have written the state government on several occasions but we are not getting the response we want. So, we want security provide for us because we are tired.

“And one of their hideouts is the tick forest in Okeluse, which they use as their den.”

He added, “Anytime they are kidnapped, they will always ask for ransom and if you don’t give them the money within two days, they will kill the victim. We have been experiencing this for the last two years now.”

Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the spokesperson for the police in Ondo, confirmed the attacks on the residents of the communities.

Mrs Odunlami-Omisanya said that the police had been after the perpetrators, vowing that “they would be brought to book soon.”

Terrorists Kill Medical Doctor, Abduct 10 Residents In Zamfara State Community

Terrorists locally dubbed as bandits on Monday killed a medical doctor and abducted 10 people including members of the slain doctor’s family in an attack on Jangebe community, Talata Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Residents said the armed men stormed the community around 1am and began to fire shots from several directions.
Jangebe community has suffered series of abductions. From January to date, there have been at least four cases of bandits’ invasions of the community according to the residents.
In February 2021, more than 200 schoolgirls were abducted from a secondary school in the community.
In December 2022, the family members of a lawmaker representing Talata Mafara LGA were kidnapped in the community.
In the Monday’s attack, the criminals broke the wall of the doctor’s house to gain entrance.
According to Daily Trust, they reportedly shot him dead immediately they forced themselves into the house and took away his family members and some other residents in the neighborhood. They also burnt a military vehicle near the victim’s residence.
“We are battling to come to terms with what would have led to the killing of the medical doctor. The whole community was thrown into mourning because the doctor had been very helpful to us.
“Some residents reported hearing a heated argument between the armed men over the killing of the doctor. We heard a voice of one of them scolding those who shot dead the doct,” a resident, Hamza, said.
The spokesman of the state police command ASP Yazid Abubakar could not be reached for comment.

Bandits on Rampage in Niger State, Kill 38 and Kidnap Scores Within 48 Hours

Bandits have gone on the rampage in communities in the Rafi local government area of Niger State, killing not less than 38 villagers and kidnapping scores of others within two days.

The gunmen raided Katako village in Rafi local government area on Friday, where they killed 25 people before raiding Kusherki town in the same local government killing 13 people on Saturday.

Also on Saturday, the terrorists stormed the popular Mariga Market in Mariga local government area attacking and injuring scores of traders as well as rustling their cattle and making away with the sales of the traders.

The number of people kidnapped could not be immediately ascertained, but one of the traders who escaped with injuries said “they are many.”

The witness said the bandits stormed the market riding three of them on motorcycles with each clutching AK-47 rifles.

“They shot sporadically into the air to scare the traders with the bullets hitting and injuring some of the traders” the eyewitness said on condition of anonymity.

Niger State Police Public Relations Offiicer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, said the police in collaboration with the military have been dispatched to Yakila, Tegina, Kagara, Pandogari, Kusherki and other villages in the local government area to restore normalcy in the affected areas.

Abiodun did not however confirm the number of casualties or people kidnapped.

In a statement at the weekend the Senator representing Niger East Senatorial District in the State, Alhaji Mohammed Sani Musa, cried out that armed gunmen have taken over communities in his constituency, saying not less than 20 villagers had been killed in the last couple of weeks while about 70 others were kidnapped.

Musa, in the statement made available to newsmen in Minna, also said the bandits were raping women and girls apart from stealing their valuable items including money.

The federal lawmaker disclosed that the villages mostly affected were in Kwagana, and Kaffinkoro wards in Paikoro local government area, Sabo Kabula in Munya local government area and Pandogari ward in Rafi LGA and others in Shiroro LGA

“The saddest aspect of this saga is that the victims are being subjected to inhuman treatments with some chained together to forestall their escape from their captors,” he said, adding that the bandits were also demanding ransoms of between N1.5 million and N4 million, “from the beleaguered families of their victims at times collecting these huge sums of money and failing to release their captives.”

Musa added: “The insecurity in the senatorial district attained alarming proportions in the last few weeks, a development that means that the bandits are testing the will and capacities of the Federal and Niger State governments to secure the lives and property of Nigerians.”

He, however, contended that he believes “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration will deal decisively with the criminals in the coming days.”

Musa therefore challenged the security agencies in the state and at the Federal level to “live up to their responsibilities by combing the forests to free those detained there” so that they can begin to live normal lives especially now that “we are in the rainy season when those kidnapped are supposed to be on their farms doing what they know how best to do to earn a livelihood.”

He commiserated with the families of the captives, assuring that “very soon your loved ones will regain their freedom.

Secession: Officers injured as Yoruba Nation agitators storm police station in Lagos

Police authorities in Lagos said some of its personnel were injured after Yoruba Nation agitators stormed a station in the early hours of Sunday.

The spokesperson for the state police command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said two agitators were arrested in the Alausa area of Lagos.

“The agitators, numbering 15, stormed Alausa Police Division at about 5:35 a.m. today, chanting, ‘Yoruba Nation has taken over,’ and injured some police officers who attempted to disperse them,” Mr Hundeyin said.

He, however, said the remaining agitators fled following a response from the police.

“The suspects, who were arrested with charms, dangerous weapons and different offensive insignias bearing Yoruba Nation Army, stormed Alausa Division along with others at about the same time another group was attempting to take over a radio station in Ibadan, Oyo State.

They claimed they came to officially inform the police that the United Nations had granted approval for the take-off of Yoruba Nation,” he said.

He said the arrested suspects are currently assisting the police in the ongoing investigation into the subversive plans of the group.

“The suspects are assisting the police while their network of sponsors will soon be unveiled and brought to justice in the overriding internal security interest of the State,” he said.

The police image-maker said the state Commissioner of Police, CP Idowu Owohunwa, has warned subversive elements to steer clear of the state or face the wrath of the law.

“The command is fully ready and has the strong will and operational orientation to bring the full weight of the law to bear on them or on any other elements that might attempt to disrupt the stable security order in Lagos.

“The command will effectively suppress any ill-advised persons or groups under any nomenclature who might be attempting to test the will of law enforcement operatives of the command before, during and after the May 29, 2023, inauguration,” he said.

Nigeria Police Arrest Five For Hijacking Ibadan-based Amuludun Radio Station To Declare Freedom For Yoruba Nation

The police in Oyo State, southwest Nigeria, have arrested five of the Yoruba Nation agitators who hijacked a government-owned radio station in Ibadan on Sunday.

Amuludun 99.1 FM, one of the stations owned and managed by the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) or Radio Nigeria, was hijacked early Sunday morning by the agitators, who reportedly took control of transmission for about one hour.

A source told SaharaReporters on Sunday morning that the individuals identified as Yoruba Nation agitators arrived at the station around 5 am, pretending that they wanted to make some enquiries.

“They gained access to the station by pretending that they wanted to make some enquiries. When they entered, they told the people there that they wanted to air their views but that was denied.

“That was when they brought out charms and threatened the workers. Then they started making some announcements, saying in Yoruba that the people who sent them to take some actions should come out. They said after asking them to do those things, they abandoned them.

“They were there for about one hour before the police came to disrupt their plan. Normalcy has returned to the area and some of them were arrested,” the source said.

However, the state police commissioner, Adebowale Williams, disclosed later on Sunday that the agitators forcibly hijacked the station to declare freedom of the Yoruba Nation from Nigeria.

But according to him, the police command swiftly restored calm and arrested the suspects.

Williams described the action of the agitators as criminal and an act of terrorism.

He said the people behind the group would be found and unveiled by the police.

Amuludun FM is a community station located at Moniya, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. It was established on October 10, 2007, and commenced transmission on October 22, 2007. Its programmes are in Yoruba language.

JUST IN: Armed Herdsmen Sack Benue State Community, Kill Scores Of Residents, Four Soldiers, Burn Houses

Armed Fulani herdsmen have attacked yet another Benue State community, killing scores of residents including four Nigerian soldiers and burning down villages.

SaharaReporters reliably gathered on Monday that the attack took place on Sunday at Iyer village in Uvir Council Ward in Guma local government area of the state.

Community sources told SaharaReporters that the terrorists Fulani herdsmen invaded the community at about 5pm on Sunday and opened fire on the residents.

Many people according to sources were burnt alive inside their houses.

One of the sources, who gave his name simply as Barnabas told SaharaReporters that the four soldiers who were killed, came to the community after they received distress calls to repel the attackers but they were outgunned by the herdsmen numbering over 50.

"This is seventh times Fulani herdsmen would be attacking communities in Guma local government area in one month. This very attack happened at about 5pm yesterday (Sunday) Fulani herdsmen with suspected Nigeria soldiers accompanying them launched an attack in Iye village in Uvir council Ward, Guma local government of Benue State. They killed several people including four soldiers. Ten bodies have been discovered and so many houses have been burned."

Another source who did not want his name to be mentioned in print, decried the instant killing of residents and burning of the corpses.

SaharaReporters reported on May 11 that Fulani herdsmen reportedly killed no fewer than 28 people in renewed attacks on Mbawa Council Ward in Guma Local Government area of Benue State, North Central Nigeria.

Sources had told SaharaReporters that tens of people had been gruesomely killed by the jihadist terrorists’ herdsmen in the local government area in recent months.

Meanwhile, SaharaReporters’ efforts to get the reaction of the Benue police command were unsuccessful as the Command's spokesperson, CSP Sewuese Anene, did not take calls.

Politics / You’ll Be Lucky To Escape Lawsuit, Tinubu’s Team Tells Chimamanda Adichie by Insecurity(m): 8:07am On Apr 09, 2023
2023 Polls: You’ll be lucky to escape lawsuit, Tinubu’s team tells Chimamanda Adichie

Mrs Adichie had alleged in a letter to President Joe Biden of the US that INEC Chair, Mahmood Yakubu, may have been compromised by Mr Tinubu, who won the recent Nigeria's presidential election.

Dele Alake, the special adviser communications to President-elect, Bola Tinubu, says Chimamanda Adichie may face a lawsuit over an allegation she made against the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu.

Ms Adichie, in an open letter to US President, Joe Biden, said “Many believe that the INEC chair has been “compromised”.

“…but there is no evidence of the astronomical U.S.-dollar amounts he is rumoured to have received from the president-elect. The extremely wealthy Tinubu is himself known to be an enthusiastic participant in the art of “compromising”; some Nigerians call him a “drug baron” because, in 1993, he forfeited to the United States government $460,000 of his income that a Chicago court determined to be proceeds from heroin trafficking,” she added.

Mr Alake, in a rejoinder issued on Friday, said the novelist will be lucky to avoid being asked to prove her allegation in court.

“Chimamanda will be lucky if she does not have to prove this weighty allegation in court,” he said.

INEC has not responded to the allegation.

Ms Adiche supported the candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, who came third in the presidential election.

Mr Tinubu, the ruling APC candidate, polled a total of 8,794,726 votes to defeat Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who scored a total of 6,984,520 votes and Mr Obi of the Labour Party (LP), who came third with a total of 6,101,533 votes There were 18 candidates in presidential election which held on 25 February.

Why Tinubu won
While trying to prove the credibility of the election, Mr Alake stated that the decisions of Mr Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso to defect from the PDP to LP and New Nigeria Peoples Party respectively helped Mr Tinubu to win the election, a task that would have been almost impossible.

“It is instructive that Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso broke away from the PDP to contest the election on the platforms of the LP and NNPP respectively. Had the PDP contested the election as one with Obi and Kwankwaso in its fold, winning the election would have been an uphill, almost impossible, task for the APC.

“But contesting on three separate platforms against the ruling party as they did, the victory of the APC was logically and empirically inevitable,” he wrote.

Messrs Obi and Kwankwaso dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) just before the primaries.

Meanwhile, Messrs Obi and Atiku are currently challenging the outcome of the presidential election in court.

Afenifere Leader, Adebanjo Sacks National Secretaries, Ajayi, Omololu Over Unauthorised Statements Tackling Iwuanyanwu

Afenifere states that it never issued any statement and dissociate the Organisation from any such statement against Chief Iwunayanwu.

Two principal officers have been suspended by pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere over "uncouth activities and unauthorised” statements issued in the name of the organisation tackling a South-East leader, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, over a statement credited to him referring to the group as political rascals.

The group on Tuesday suspended the National Publicity Secretary, Jare Ajayi, and the National Organising Secretary, Abagun Kole Omololu.

The announcement was made in a communique jointly signed by the group's leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo and Mr Sola Ebiseni, the Secretary General of Afenifere and issued after a meeting held in Isanya Ogbo, Ogun State, the country home of its leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo.

The apex Yoruba group, in the communique, maintained that the Presidential election held on February 25, 2023, in the country was fraught with irregularities, saying the outcome of the polls was not a reflection of the will of the people and not in compliance with the Electoral Act.

“After due consideration of the unending embarrassing conduct of the two officers, the Meeting resolved that they be and are hereby removed immediately from their respective offices and their membership be suspended sine die pending further decisions after their appearance before and recommendations by the Disciplinary Committee,” the communique read.

Speaking on the statement credited to Iwuanyanwu, the apex Yoruba group said, “We received a message credited to Chief Emmanuel Iwunayanwu in a viral video alleging indictment of the Yoruba as political rascals on account of ethnic violence deployed by politicians of the ruling party in Lagos State.

“On the analysis of the video and information at the disposal of Afenifere by people at the Anambra State gathering, we are convinced that Chief Iwunayanwun rightly asserted that the Yoruba and Igbo were not at war and truly condemned the shenanigans of some political rascals.

“Flowing from the above, Afenifere states that it never issued any statement and dissociate the Organisation from any such statement against Chief Iwunayanwu.”

The group, however, maintained that the Presidential election held on February 25, 2023, in the country was fraught with irregularities, saying the outcome of the polls is not a reflection of the will of the people and not in compliance with the Electoral Act.

“That Afenifere reiterates our position that the Presidential election held on the 25th of February 2023 was characterised by all forms of primitive manipulations and noncompliance with the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Electoral Act 2022 and the Guidelines and Regulations made pursuant thereto with concomitant legislative force.

“Reiterate that “the results of the lawful votes at the Presidential election available to the Afenifere through credible sources confirm that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, won the said election and we, thus, support his decision challenging the contrary declaration by the INEC.

“We re-assert that for equity, fairness, national cohesion, and peaceful corporate existence, the next President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria shall be a person of its southern part and specifically the South-East.”

“Condemn in the strongest terms, the campaigns of calumny and acts of ethnic violence deployed by some politicians and their hired criminal gangs in several parts of the federation during the gubernatorial election particularly Lagos State where the election was made to appear like an inter-ethnic war between the Yoruba and Igbo which greatly led to voters’ suppression and other forms of deliberate disenfranchisement through brigandage,” the statement added.

Politics / APC Supporters Protest In Abuja To Demand Congratulatory Messages For President- by Insecurity(m): 10:40am On Mar 27, 2023
APC supporters protest in Abuja to demand congratulatory messages for President-elect Tinubu
We have to defend the mandate freely given to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu because it is the right thing to do,” a supporter said.

Supporters of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress have called for a demonstration in Abuja on Monday.

Billed to defend the mandate of the party’s leader and president-elect, Bola Tinubu, the protesters said the failure or refusal to congratulate a new Nigerian leader could continue to fuel doubts over his mandate.

Suleiman Raji, one of the organisers who said he came in from Ilorin to attend the protest, said it was to condemn those who have been silent because their action or inaction could put Mr Tinubu’s mandate in jeopardy.

“They are refusing to congratulate him and that is why we keep seeing people coming with all manner of attacks on the president-elect,” Mr Raji said on Monday morning. “It is very wrong because he was elected by Nigerians in a free and fair campaign.”

John Onaiyekan, a frontline Christian leader in Nigeria, President Joe Biden of the United States and several other religious and political leaders in Nigeria and beyond appeared to have withheld congratulatory messages to Mr Tinubu.

Mr Tinubu was declared winner of Nigeria’s February 25, 2023, presidential election in a race that pitted him against three formidable challengers. Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party came second, while Peter Obi of the Labour Party came third. Both politicians are now challenging Mr Tinubu’s emergence as president-elect, alleging Mr Tinubu’s ineligibility and irregularities in the conduct of the exercise.

While Mr Onaiyekan has publicly disclosed his reasons for withholding any messages to Mr Tinubu, Mr Biden’s office has yet to state any grounds for its decision. Although the U.S. State Department congratulated Mr Tinubu, the president-elect’s supporters said a message from the White House would remove any doubts about the U.S. leader’s acceptance of the new Nigerian leader. In 2015, President Barack Obama congratulated Muhammadu Buhari on his election in that year’s election.

“We have to defend the mandate freely given to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu because it is the right thing to do,” another protester Sherifat Yusuf said. “We cannot sit down and allow them to rob us of a mandate that was freely given to Asiwaju.”

The protesters said they would make their demands regularly until Mr Tinubu is sworn in on May 29.

“Their silence is very loud at this sensitive period because people out there are thinking that something bad may happen to this new government,” Ms Yusuf said while on her way to the Unity Fountain venue of the rally. “We have to show support to Asiwaju until he is successfully sworn in as president to take our country to the next level.”

In Another Milestone, Air Peace Begins First Direct Flight from Nigeria to Israel

Allen Onyema said the airline is prepared for the inaugural and subsequent flights, with two weekly flights then increase frequency over time.

Air Peace has once more made history as it begins the first direct flight from Nigeria to the State of Israel on April 20, 2023.
Industry stakeholders described it as great feat for the airline and a huge relief to Nigerians and Israelis who have to travel for 27 hours from Nigeria to Israel via other nations.

But a direct flight between the two countries would take just five hours.
Israeli government confirmed that Air Peace’s inaugural flight to Ben Gurion International Airport, Tel-Aviv, Israel would commence next month.
Israeli Minister of Transportation and Road Safety, Brigadier General Miri Regev who disclosed this in Israel, noted that this would be a historical feat, as there had never been a direct flight between the Middle East nation and Nigeria.

“Nigeria’s flag carrier Air Peace will begin operating direct flights to Israel for the first time, starting on April 20, the Minister of Transportation and Road Safety announced today (Sunday).

“Minister Regev today approved the aviation agreement signed between Israel and Nigeria, and submitted it for government approval.
“The signed agreement will for the first time allow the airlines of each of the countries to operate regular flights at Ben Gurion Airport to several destinations in Nigeria, such as Abuja and Lagos.  In the first phase, the Nigerian company (airline) will operate two weekly flights between Israel and Nigeria.

“So far, no direct flights have been operated between the two countries and the thousands of pilgrims who come to Israel every year from Nigeria have flown through Turkey or Ethiopia.  The agreement will allow Israeli and Nigerian airlines to make direct flights between the countries and increase the number of pilgrims who come to Israel every year,” disclosed Israeli embassy source.

Regev said Israel had started opening new routes to connect the world and identified Nigeria as one of the leading countries in Africa that maintained close ties with Israel.

“Recently we have witnessed a wave of new routes being opened to destinations all over the world, and I am happy to announce the launch of direct flights to Nigeria as well.

“Nigeria is one of the leading countries in Africa, and it maintains close ties with Israel in a wide variety of fields, along with traffic of pilgrims who come to Israel to visit the holy places of Christianity.

“I welcome the opening of the new line and am sure that it will contribute to strengthening the business and cultural ties between the nations and between the governments,” she said.
When contacted, the elated Chairman and CEO of Air Peace, Allen Onyema said the airline was prepared for the inaugural and subsequent flights to the Holy Land, disclosing that it would begin with two flights a week and increase frequency with time.

Onyema commended the governments of Nigeria and Israel, saying they made it possible, breaking old barriers to make direct flight between the two countries a reality, adding that it is an indication of the strong relationship between the two countries.

He also disclosed that the airline had completed plansto begin three times a week flight service to Jeddah and Medina in order to make it easy for Nigerians who wish to travel for pilgrimage, adding that it is in fulfillment of the promise the airline made to Nigerians of connecting them to domestic destinations and to the world.

He expressed confidence that the airline would secure approval from Saudi authorities for the flight service and in next few days would announce the date for the schedule flight operation.

Keep off Nigeria affairs, your candidate didn’t win – Fani-Kayode blasts UK

Femi Fani-Kayode, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has chided the British deputy high commissioner to Nigeria, Ben Llewellyn-Jones over a comment against him.

DAILY POST recalls that the United Kingdom, UK Envoy had on Sunday, tackled Fani-Kayode over his alleged inciting comments on social media.

In an interview with Nigeria Info FM on Sunday, Llewellyn-Jones expressed worries over the possible repercussions of derogatory comments being made by the former Minister of Aviation against opposition parties.

Reacting, FFK, in a tweet on his official handle, urged the UK representative to steer clear of Nigeria’s affairs, saying the country is no longer their colony.

According to the former minister, the preferred candidate of the UK envoy lost in the just concluded presidential elections.

He wrote, “I would advise this Ben, who I am told is the Deputy High Commissioner of the UK to Nigeria, to keep his dirty nose out of our internal affairs.

“I know that his preferred candidate did not win the presidential election but that does not mean he should cross the line and take liberties with us here. I wonder who the hell he thinks he is?”

UK govt slams Fani-Kayode over comments, reveals 10 people on visa ban watchlist

The United Kingdom has hit out at a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Femi Fani-Kayode, over controversial comments made during the electoral season.

In an interview with Nigeria Info FM on Sunday, the British Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Ben Llewellyn-Jones, faulted the APC presidential campaign council’s director of new media, for making derogatory remarks.

Last month, Fani-Kayode was invited for questioning by the Department of State Services (DSS), for claiming that the presidential flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, had a meeting with army generals before the elections.

“Yes, let’s be specific, there were some people, like Femi Fani-Kayode, what is he saying and why is he saying it? I don’t understand.

“It is wrong from my perspective that he will speak on behalf of a party and that party does not distance itself from him and say stop doing that. It is wrong to say that,” Llewellyn-Jones said.

Llewellyn-Jones has reiterated the fact that the UK government will issue visa bans to people undermining democracy.

According to him, there are about 10 persons already on the watchlist.

“We have a list, we are working through our list but we don’t publish those names. I know people say we should, but we have laws, and the law prevents us from doing that.At the moment the list is between 5 and 10 and it is growing,” he added.

Politics / CJN Travelled For Medicals, Never Met Tinubu – Supreme Court by Insecurity(m): 8:35pm On Mar 24, 2023
The Supreme Court on Friday distanced the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola, from a purported meeting with the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, in London.

There had been several reports (Not The PUNCH) claiming that the duo met in London. It was reported that the CJN disguised in a wheelchair and was wheeled into the aeroplane to London.

But debunking the reports on Friday, the Supreme Court’s spokesperson, Festus Akande, said the reports were false.

He said though the CJN travelled out of the country, he was out for medical care not for meeting with the president-elect.

the CJN has been in Nigeria, and presided over meetings of the National Judicial Council (NJC) held on 16 and 17 March,” Akande told Premium Times.

Akande explained that the CJN only travelled out of Nigeria briefly to London on 18 March for medical care.

According to him, the CJN was accompanied by NJC’s Secretary, Gambo Saleh.

“On 23 March, the CJN returned from his medical trip to London and later reported in the office (in Abuja), where he worked till 8p.m,” Akande said.

He added, “The only time the CJN travelled earlier this year was on 25 January, when he travelled for Lesser Hajj in Saudi Arabia. He returned on 29 January 2023.”

Meanwhile, pictures of the CJN surfaced online on Friday. The CJN was seen dressed in Ankara print and a cap to match. He was said to have attended Jumat prayers in Abuja.

BREAKING: Tension in APC’s camp as court orders service of petitions on Tinubu

There is growing tension in All Progressives Congress (APC), as Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) sitting in Abuja, on Friday, ordered the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, should be served with copies of petitions seeking to nullify his election, through substituted means.

The ruling, TRIBUNE ONLINE gathered, comes after separate ex-parte applications that were brought before the court by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar and his counterpart in the Labour Party, Peter Obi.

The duo accused Tinubu of deliberately avoiding the service of their petitions on him.

They told the court that several attempts they made to effect service of the petitions on Tinubu, proved abortive.

According to the petitioners, the President-elect deliberately made himself elusive with a view to frustrating their effort to hand him copies of the petition as required by the law.

Consequently, relying on Section 6(6a) and 36(1) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, Section 15 of the Court of Appeal Act, as well as Paragraph 8 of the First Schedule of the Electoral Act 2022, the petitioners sought the intervention of the Court.

Both Atiku and Obi further supported their ex-parte motions dated March 23, with affidavits of urgency and non-service, even as they persuaded the court to hear the applications, outside the pre-hearing session of their substantive petitions.

While Atiku’s application was moved on Friday by his legal team led by Mr Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, that of Obi and LP was moved by Mr Ikechukwu Ezechukwu, SAN.
