The family members led by Pa Bowofola Abraham converged at their family yard before moving round the town.

Sports / Man United Agree World Record Fee To Sign Leicester Defender, Maguire by InsightMedia(m): 4:17pm On Aug 02, 2019
Manchester United have reached an agreement with Leicester city to sign England centre-back Harry Maguire for a world record fee of £80m, BBC has confirmed.

The 26-year-old former Hull City player is expected to complete a medical at the club at the weekend.

He becomes United's third summer signing following the arrivals of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James from Crystal Palace and Swansea respectively.

Maguire made 69 Premier League appearances for Leicester after joining from Hull City in 2017.

The deal means Maguire becomes the world's most expensive defender, eclipsing the £75m Liverpool paid Southampton for Virgil van Dijk in January 2018.

United had a long-standing interest in Maguire but they backed away from a deal 12 months ago because they felt the £70m that would be needed for a transfer to be concluded was too high.

Politics / Democracy Day: The True Concept Of Democracy. by InsightMedia(m): 7:32am On May 29, 2019
Democracy according to Bernard Crick is the most promiscuous concept in public affairs.
Democracy has a system of government is the most widely used system of government around the world, it is a system of government that gives equality to all without prejudice or sentiments and grant access to freedom of speech and liberty to her citizens guided by a constitution which doesn't makes any one bigger than the law.

Thus, democracy refers to ‘rule by the people’. This began in the first half of the 5th century B.C. among the Greeks thus beginning what Robert Dahl (1989) calls the transformation from rule by the few to rule by the many. During the French Revolution (1789-1799), the French lawyer and political leader, Maximilien Robespierre (1758-1794), defined democracy as a “state in which the people, as sovereign, guided by laws of its own making, does for itself all that it can do well”.

This definition implies that there are things ‘the people’ may be unable to do or cannot do well. The questions then are: what are these things? Who then do such things? We will return to this issue later. In his Gettysburg Address, former United States president, Abraham Lincoln gave what has since become the most famous and widely accepted definition of democracy. In the Address, delivered at the dedication of the Soldiers’ National Cemetery on 19 November 1863 in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, Lincoln asserted that ‘all men are created equal’ and defined democracy as ‘government of the people, by the people, for the people’ (Lincoln. 1863).

This definition makes the people the subject and object of democracy or what Nkolika Ebele terms ‘the raison d’etre of governance’ (Nkolika,2007). This definition has many merits; although, like any other, it has its limitations. The definition stresses the principle of equality since all men are supposedly created equal. Harold Laski(1982) defines equality as the absence of special privilege. Thus, a democratic state is often said to be one wherein the citizens have equal access to justice, job, power, privilege, etc. Indeed, Andrew Gamble describes a democratic state as the ‘republic of equals’(Gamble, 1981).This is because democracy implies that there should be a substantial degree of equality among men both in the sense that all the adult members of a society ought to have, so far as is possible, equal influence on those decisions which affect important aspects of the life of the society; and in the sense that inequalities of wealth, social status, access to education and knowledge, etc should not be so considerable as to result in the permanent subordination of some groups of men to others. Democracy as a concept and as form of governance originated from Greece from two Greek words "demo" and "kratos" which means the rule by the people of which which is a form of collective decision making but has man progress and population continue to increase it has become harder for everyone's voice to be heard which then breed a new form of democracy emerged which is the one most widely used, it is called representative democracy. Representative democracy is a particular form of Democratic governance which allows the citizen to individually elect a collective representative in elected political office, the birth of Representative democracy gave birth to electioneering process and election.

Having discuss the concept and brief history of democracy, it should be noted that democracy in Africa is quite problematic due to its incompatibility with the African culture or the traditional political system. Democracy and Africa are two sides of a coin. Africa has witnessed several coup since independence of several nations while some nations in Africa are not truly practicing democracy but another forms of governance while using democracy as a shield and disguise.

Democracy grants citizens liberty to speak or question a sitting government be it at local, state or federal level, these are one of the benefit of democracy.
Nigeria is expected to be the home of democracy in Africa but Nigeria currently in terms of Democratic system of governance is concerned, Nigeria is not living up to expectations. In Nigeria today democracy being practiced is only on paper as democracy is not the political order of the day in Nigeria. It's somehow sardonic and lugubrious that when we as a nation should be focusing on how to strengthen our democracy and nurture it to an age of maturity we are still falling behind in the argument of having a democracy day and not a true democracy in practice.

I wasn't born during the June 12 1993 imbroglio but has a student of history, I have a good knowledge of all that happened then as documented in archives, also I was quite young when Former president Olusegun Obasanjo transformed Nigeria into a democratic state from several years of military rule on may 29, 1999 but it's worrisome today that the arguments among the policy makers and government in Council is on which day should be a democracy day in Nigeria by wanting to change it from may 29,1999 to June 12 to honour late MKO Abiola but my question is why should Nigeria as a nation have a democracy day or celebrate a democracy day when the government are not truly practicing democracy and the nation at large not being democratically governed .

Culture / Drama As Oluwo Drops 'oba' For 'emir' Title, Installs Waziri Of Yorubaland by InsightMedia(m): 8:10am On Apr 01, 2018
https://insightlinks.net/2018/03/31/drama-as-oluwo-drops-oba-for-emir-title-installs-waziri-of-yorubaland/

The Oluwo of Iwoland in Osun state, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi on Saturday made history when he dropped the the title of Oba and declared his decision to adopt the Emir title popularly known with Northern traditional rulers.

Speaking at the installation and turbarning ceremony of an Islamic scholar, Sheikh Yahquub Abdul-Baaqi Mohammed as first Waziri of Yoruba land, Oba Akanbi said he decided to now bear “Emir of Iwoland” because he wants to emulate the attitudes of northern Emirs.

Oluwo said his decision was informed by the better behaviours of the Northern traditional rulers are better behaved than his counterparts from the Southwest saying Yoruba Obas are full of bickering, acrimony and enmities.

Oba Akanbi added that Yoruba traditional rulers lack unity and expected royal characters saying the Yoruba Obas have been polarized owing to enmities.

He said until Yoruba Obas come together, shun enmities and backbiting, Hausas would continue to rule Nigeria.

“I have decided to officially adopt Emir title today because I want to emulate the attitudes of Northern Emirs. They don’t begrudge themselves like Yoruba Obas.

”It will surprise you to discover that for the past two years, there has not been meeting of Yoruba traditional rulers just because of enmities. There is nothing strange in adopting Emir title. I am the Emir of Yorubaland,” Oluwo said.

Meanwhile, amid tight security presence, Oba Akanbi installed and turbaned an Islamic scholar, Sheikh Yahquub Abdul-Baaqi Mohammed as first Waziri of Yoruba land.

The installation of the Waziri was against warning served on Oluwo by the League of Imams and Alfas in Southwest Nigeria, Edo and Delta States asking Oba Akanbi to desist from installing Alhaji Mohammed as the Waziri of the Southwest.

In a statement signed by the President , League of lmams and Alfas, Southwest Nigeria, Edo and Delta States, Sheikh Jamiu Kewulere Bello urged Oba Akanbi to limit the title to Iwoland and not to the entire Yorubaland as being purported.

The letters reads in part "The proposed installation of the said recipient by your Highness as the Waziri of Iwo land is no doubt the result of your avowed commitment to the development of lslam, the lwo Community and Osun State in general

“However, it is our considered hope that your Highness should as a matter of urgency correct the rumours making the round that the organisers of this event are trying to over blow the ceremony to capture the entire Yorubaland. This is not right.”

But Oba Akanbi shunned warnings by the Islamic leaders and installed the Waziri amid pomp and pageantry saying “Iwo has used this Waziri title to announce to the world that truly Iwo is the citadel of Islamic knowledge.”

The traditional ruler added that “Iwo has a unique and distinctive traditional history among the entire Yoruba race. And these peculiarities have made Iwo to be at the forefront in Yoruba land.

” The occasion of the installation of Waziri Yorubaland is another great opportunity to create the necessary awareness and promote to the entire world the deep Islamic culture and heritage in Iwo.

“Waziri did not come from Northern part of Hausa tribe but from God. So, there is nothing strange in installing Waziri. Yoruba has forgotten their history. Whoever is critisising me lacks history of Yorubaland,” the monarch noted.
Politics / Who The Heck Is Prof Adeolu Durotoye? Facebook User Asks by InsightMedia(m): 4:38pm On Mar 20, 2018
https://insightlinks.net/2018/03/20/who-the-heck-is-prof-adeolu-durotoye-facebook-user-asks/
WHO THE HECK IS PROF ADEOLU DUROTOYE?
To cut the long story short and make the short story very brief, I'll start by stating that I DO NOT know Prof Adeolu Durotoye in person, I have NEVER met him and I am not keen to meet him right
now. So My opinion and analysis are purely based on factual evidences
and not any form of sentiment, as I have nothing to gain. The first
time I saw Prof Adeolu Durotoye's posters was a couple of
months ago along Igbona road in osogbo and that day I said to myself
"who's this guy just wasting his time and money?" I finally concluded in
my mind that this Prof. Adeolu Durotoye is just an
attention seeker, or at best somebody who is trying to negotiate a lesser
position as many politicians do. Little did I know that I had just judged
the man wrongly. A few days after I saw Prof Durotoye's posters, I
stumbled on him during a radio interview on RAVE FM where he was
discussing his vision, proposition and manifestos and his strategy to take
Osun to a greater height if he eventually becomes governor of Osun state.
Throughout the rave FM interview, Prof, Durotoye was fantastic in the way
he presented and defended his manifestos, but I was not still convinced
that the man is a serious governorship candidate. Fortunately for me I
heard him again during a debate /interview on Unique FM with the current
APC chairman in Osun where he proved himself more to me that he actually
understands the business of governance but I had some elements of doubts
STILL. Before the end of the said interview the APC chairman said something
that surprised me about Prof Adeolu Durotoye. The APC chairman in his words
said "I know Prof Durotoye very WELL, he's a good man, and the right
candidate
that can take Osun to greater heights, but he belongs to the wrong party,
the PDP". Whether the PDP is a wrong party or not is subjudice and I don't
want to delve into that but the positives in the APC chairman’s remarks is
that Prof Durotoye is a good and credible candidate without blemish. Now
if the APC chairman can say this about a PDP GUBERNATORIAL ASPIRANT, what
other conviction do I need?
As from that point I started to follow Prof. Durotoye's activities on
social, print and electronic media and I noticed that he is making
tremendous progress and meeting with party leaders leaving no stone
unturned. Hardly would a week go bye that Prof. Durotoye would not be in
the news for positive reasons. He has also met with former President
Olusegun Obasanjo, the Ooni of Ife, the Ataoja of Osogbo and
numerous other political and traditional rulers. All of these convinced me
that Prof Adeolu Durotoye is a serious contender in the Osun 2018
governorship election and also he's not just an attention seeker, so I
searched for his profile and wow, it was fantastic. I immediately realized
that this is the kind of candidate that can win elections for the PDP at
this crucial time. HE IS YOUNG, VIBRANT AND HAS THE MENTAL CAPACITY TO
DRIVE THE DYING ECONOMY OF OSUN STATE.
Prof. Adeolu Durotoye is the link between the YOUNG and the OLD, as he is
just 48yrs old. Prof Adeolu Durotoye does not have any stains on his NAME,
he is the kind of technocrat that people would embrace
without stress, another advantage is also that he hails from OSOGBO, the
state capital that has very high voting power, where the governorship
election is won and lost.
Over 25% of all votes cast in the 2014 election was from OSOGBO. OMISORE
lost the elections with about 100k votes, which close to 60k votes against
him came from OSOGBO. This means that if the PDP were to present an Osogbo
credible indegene like Prof. Adeolu Durotoye for the 2018 governorship
election, osogbo indegenes would vote en mass for their SON, cos they have
no realistic chance of ruling Osun for the next 16years and it's an
aberration if Osogbo is not given a chance NOW. Prof. Adeolu Durotoye is
the best candidate in the Osun governorship race right now, and the PDP
should take advantage of this golden opportunity to return to power in the
state and also to save the masses from the shackle of oppression, hunger
and abject poverty, AJELE has put them through. Prof. Adeolu Durotoye is
globally exposed and locally bred, he has seen it all. According to Prof.
Adeolu Durotoye "good governance is 80% economics and 20% politics. This is
the kind of governor Osun state needs right now. The most catchy of his
manifestos is the promise of 200k jobs in the first 12months of his
administration as Osun state governor. 200k gainful employment would go a
long way in reviving the almost redundant economy of OUR DEAR OSUN STATE.
FINALLY, I must state again that I have never met Prof. Adeolu Durotoye,
and I am not in any way close to him and also not keen to meet him right
now, so my humble opinion is based on the premise of undisputable facts. NO
SENTIMENTS ATTACHED, as I have nothing to gain. I am from ILESHA WEST LOCAL
GOVERNMENT, in the OSUN EAST senatorial district. THE PDP HAS THE RIGHT
TOOL TO WIN THE FORTHCOMING ELECTION IN OSUN STATE, THEY HAVE THE ROUND PEG
THAT CAN FIT INTO THE ROUND HOLE, THE PDP WOULD WIN MASSIVELY IF THEY CAN
PRESENT PROF. ADEOLU DUROTOYE FOR GOVERNOR OSUN 2018, we the humble masses
