when i was growing up as a kid, my father had a similar case like this. my father took the case to court and the case lasted for ten good years. we didn't pay any rent for that period and after ten years when the judgement came. we had already left few weeks before the judgement.

That was in the old testament sha, these days the landlords dont lose, they get someone to answer your name in court and agree to pack on a certain date, then he gets the court order to throw you out.
