Health / Re: Why Is NCDC still adding discharged cases to their figures for states? by Iolo(m): 12:19am On Apr 23, 2020 |
OP, what makes you think you’re right? Funny how the average Nigerian believes his line of thought is the most correct. Check the calculations...the figures for each would never go down as discharges are still left in the total. The reason For this is that NCDC’s report is based on total (active + dead + recovered) cases so the numbers for each state would remain the same if the state as not gotten any new cases. 1 Like |

ZiriMane: The farms are there...maybe not getting as much attention. Most of these rice mills are off takers so they buy directly from small to mid scale farmers - process and then sell in their own brand name. Some of the big guys like Chi, Cosharis run this model even though they may have their own farms where they produce and then process at their mills. |

Asquare84: Imagine the level of corruption. The next step after enrolling these lecturers is to do a forensic audit. Ghost workers won’t work cause of NIN / BVN - it has to be tied to an actual person. Then they can always verify the qualifications against the job posting. 15 Likes 1 Share |
Education / Re: IPPIS: Ten Reasons Why Lecturers Did Not Register On The IPPIS Platform by Iolo(m): 6:09pm On Dec 22, 2019 |
FIRS and CBN are revenue generating bodies and they pay salaries from revenues they generate. Hence they may be exempted from IPPIS since the government doesn’t pay their staff from its coffers directly. The Nigerian Army and Police have all joined the IPPIS scheme and one thing everyone will agree with is that it has helped to curb the era of ghost workers. ASUU unfortunately is afraid that it’s arbitrary deductions from lecturer dues will negatively affect its ability to raise funds. Till date I am yet to see any lecturer or non-teaching staff who outside of ASUU complain against IPPIS. It brings about a new level of transparency our universities simply aren’t accustomed to. Many of the issues raised above like accommodations for lecturers above 70 years are system configured features that can be changed for university staff. Not to mention that until our universities are able to pay salaries from their own IGR the claim of independence from government remains mute. 60 Likes 6 Shares |

gaetano: Let me try to show you a different perspective in addition to what you’ve said which is also mostly correct. A country such as Benin is actually working to directly sabotage our economy. They are currently one of the top 10 importers of rice in the world. And this was by design through active steps taken by their government to promote importers into Nigeria through their ports. At the time the Nigerian goverment was raising imports on rice to 35%, they were decreasing theirs to 5% and promoting incentives. Besides fixing the corrupt customs, the Nigerian government must show its strong hand in being able to deal with economic saboteurs around it and this is what they are trying to do. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Goldencheese: The thing is fake medical reports are being used to circumvent corruption cases. People use these reports to stall their trials, get endless adjournments and previously travel aboard on “so called medical treatment trips” to never return. So it is within the purview of the EFCC to track and stop this so they can get more cases out of the judiciary in good time. 1 Like |

Politics / Re: IMF Backs Nigeria On Border Closure by Iolo(m): 7:44pm On Oct 19, 2019 |
I see five major benefits to the border closure: 1. Supporting the local industries: Making local rice more attractive to us Nigerians. People will buy what they see and if it takes banning imported rice for more Nigerians to consume local rice then this works for the government. 2. Saving Money spent subsidizing fuel smuggled to Benin: The government has realized that about 10% of our daily consumption as a country is being smuggled to Benin. The issue this brings is the country is effectively paying for another countries consumption. Easy solution to this is to remove fuel subsidy but doing that affects Nigerians adversely. Closing down the borders makes it all the more difficult to continue to smuggle fuel across. I don’t recall the numbers now but NNPC has recently reduced a drop in our daily consumption as a country which proves this theory correct. 3. Increase income from duties by encouraging importers to come through Lagos ports rather than cotonou: the goal here is simply revenue generation. The customs has proven this correct as well as their revenues have gone up in recent weeks. The government only needs to fix the port roads and drive more efficiency at the ports otherwise this will be a temporary fix once the borders are reopened. 4. Foreign policy benefits (I.e. resolving issues of economic sabotage) : this will give us more bargaining chips as the FG looks to resolve issues of economic sabotage coming from Benin republic. The Benin government makes a lot of money by sabotaging our policies. Case in point is a statistic that shows Benin as the third largest importer of rice in the world whereas we all know where much of that rice ends up. Importers who bring in this rice pay duties to the Benin government and then smuggle it into Nigeria. 5. Foreign policy benefits (I.e. resolving issues of non-cooperation was towards dealing with boko haram: a lot of our neighbors have taken a non commital attitude towards fighting boko haram head on. Some of our neighboring Countries such as Niger and Chad are entirely landlocked and rely on us (In addition to Benin and Cameroon to a smaller extent) for most of their imports. closing the land borders affects their economies adversely which idealistically makes them more willing to do our bidding. I hope this helps someone here better understand the issues being discussed. Disclaimer: I don’t work for the government or the APC. |
