Agriculture / Re: What Are The Requirements For Cold Room Business by isiah60: 12:16pm On Oct 12, 2017
Prosperousman:
before establishing a cold room business, the first important factor to consider is the source of power.
SOURCE OF POWER
your area of business should have at least 10 hours of electricity per day. otherwise running generator will reduce your profit margin.
CHOICE OF COLDROOM
Go for a high quality grade cold room. this is expensive but on the long run it will reduce the cost of running your generator frequently because it can maintain the frozen state of foods for a period of 72 hours. using a freezer is not cost effective unless you have steady supply of electricity. one of the major causes of a spoilage of foods is constant thawing and freezing. once foods remain in constant frozen,it would be difficult for the food to spoil.
HAVE GOOD QUALITY PRODUCTS
Most people are now aware that eating chicken or turkey with preservatives is not good for the health. to be on the safe side, book your chickens from reputable local farms. most farms process and deliver to you according to your taste.
BUSINESS INTEGRATION
you can use your cold room for ice block if it's not in full capacity. this helps to increase your profit in the business. you can also help people to store their frozen foods.

etc. this would do for now
Prosperousman has put it perfectly well. I just have to thumb it up!!!

Business / Re: How Lucrative Is Cold Room Business by isiah60: 12:06pm On Oct 12, 2017
mayorjohnholt:
I wanna do Dis biz... Pls does anybody has d idea of d cold room??

Truly, Cold room business in Nigeria is very lucrative, if you can get everything right - from planning the business to execution. When I wanted to start my own frozen foods cold storage business in Abuja, the headache of finding where to buy coldroom was major.

In a dilemma of importing coldroom or sourcing locally made one. I researched and found a Nigerian Coldroom Manufacturer - DeKoolar Nigeria http://www.dekoolar.com/coldrooms/

Initially, I was skeptical about quality and reliability of locally manufactured Coldroom from the company but gave it a try and hasn't been disappointed.

Secondly, sourcing the products you want to sell from your coldroom is also a headache. However, there are many importers and major dealers of Frozen poultry foods and meat products around in Nigeria. The ones I source from are in Apapa, Lagos.

My overall advice, do your research very well and try to familiarize yourself with the business - this will determine the extent of your success doing cold room business in Nigeria.

butchery:
Meat processing and packaging
business
is a very good business you can do in
Nigeria and any other country for that
matter, but you need to get yourself a
solid business plan if you want to
actualize your business goals. It will do
you a lot of good to seek expert advice
and to learn from those who have some
form of experience in this business.
Considering the world consumption of
meat statistics, meat business is one
that has a ready market especially in
Nigeria. Your business will naturally
progress especially if it is well
positioned in a location where people
care for quality meats. The difference in price of meat purchased directly from a slaughter in the local market and one purchased from a meat store or off a superstore shelf is very negligent.
Processed meat can be classified as
sausages, cured whole muscles cuts or
restructured meat products so you need to identify with a niche before you start.
Considerations for Meat processing
business You need to do some serious
considerations in the following areas
before you set out to do your business
Type of meat:
Chicken, beef, pork lamd and goat are the main meat
that is processed for sale and you need
to make a choice of the type of meat you
will be processing. Also, you need to find
out what meat if any is forbidden in your
business area so as not to irritate your
customers when they find out that you
stock what they forbid.
Slaughtering:
Will you be slaughtering your meat
yourself or you will be buying from a
slaughter where you have made a good
bargain? If you will be buying from a
slaughter, then you need to consider if
they have the requisite permit and the
required levels of hygiene to do
business.
Processing: you will definitely need the
services of a butcher to process the
meat for you and you will need some
meat processing equipment for this job
as well as for cleaning up the meat.
Nigerians buy meat processed as whole
flesh, semi boned or complete bone.
Packaging:
Just like meat processing equipment,
you will also need meat packaging
materials. All these you can research, or visit someone who is already in the
business and learn. You will need meat
packaging machines, meat packaging
labels for branding your products,
Storage and distribution:
You will definitely need some form on
refrigeration for your meat products to
avoid spoilage. Depending on your
business capital and business strategy,
you may also want to invest in a mobile
refrigerator to enable your distribution
to be efficient. Also, like every other
business, you need to deliberately plan
your distribution techniques.
Irrespective of the country, you may
currently reside in, you can also
research into this business idea and
start benefiting from it. And finally, do
not forget to get the relevant operations
permit and business registration so that
you will be operating legally and
professionally too.

I think you don't have to rob a bank, or gather N10 Million to own a Coldroom - I discovered DeKoolar Nigeria - http://www.dekoolar.com/coldrooms/ offering modular Coldroom in Nigeria to enable small entrepreneurs to startup or scale-up in frozen foods business. Follow this Cold room in Nigeria website www.Dekoolar.com to learn more >>

Sabergol99:
There are players in the frozen food sector. Majority operate on a small scale because of inadequate infrastructure (light) and high cost of production. For instance, to get equipments required for a simple cold room is over N10Million. I don't know about you, but for now I earn an average of 60k monthly; that'll mean saving for the next 15 years on current income . Profit margin is good but mired by uncertainty, weak disposable income, price fluctuations and competition. Frozen foods for now is a high risk venture. I do love the idea of cooperating though. I believe the next wave of successful entrepreneurs are those who leverage on networking and business to business transactions.
