Infinix has announced that it will be the first to launch a smartphone powered by the Helio G99 SoC, introduced last month by MediaTek alongside the Dimensity 930 and Dimensity 1050.

Infinix didn't divulge anything about the world's first Helio G99-powered smartphone but confirmed that it will be a part of the Note 12 series.

The Helio G99 is based on TSMC's 6nm process and consists of 2x Cortex-A76 cores clocked up to 2.2GHz and 6x Cortex A-55 cores that can go up to 2GHz. It also has a Mali-G57 MC2 GPU to handle graphically intensive tasks, such as gaming and video editing.

The Helio G99 can support a maximum resolution of 108MP on a camera but doesn't come with 5G connectivity. You can check its specs below.

The latest addition to Infinix Hot 12 series is the Hot 12 Play. The device sports a massive 6,000 mAh battery, 90Hz LCD screen and boots Android 12 out the box. Infinix Hot 12 Play comes with a 6.82-inch IPS LCD with a centered punch hole cutout for the 8MP selfie cam. The back houses a 13MP main cam alongside a 2MP AI lens.

Unisoc’s T610 chipset sits at the helm paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage which is expandable via microSD. The software side is covered by Inifinix’s XOS 10 on top of Android 12. The phone’s massive 6,000 mAh battery only does 10W charging.

Infinix Hot 12 Play comes in Racing Black, Horizon Blue, Champagne Gold and Daylight Green colors and retails for INR 8,499 ($110). Open sales in India start on May 30.

Transsion today announced that its Infinix brand has released the world’s first light-painted leather technology that changes colors under sunlight. Using it, users can customize the back cover of their phones by drawing a personalized pattern by blocking the light.

According to reports, the light-painted leather technology works by reacting to ultraviolet rays. A photochromic compound is integrated into leather whose molecular structure changes rapidly under sunlight, resulting in color shifting. The effect is temporary though, as the color of the leather gradually returns to its original state.

Transsion says that unlike regular electrochromic technology, Infinix’s light-painted leather is a passive color-changing technology, meaning it does not require any additional energy from a smartphone to produce color changes. Simply blocking the light in different shapes is sufficient for creating different patterns, opening up the possibility of endless customization.

The new light-painted leather technology will be applied to future Infinix products soon.

YouTuber PBKreviews is taking on the Infinix Note 11 Pro with their durability tests. This is a budget smartphone phone available in limited markets, but the phone’s attractive cost with some stand-out specifications like the large 6.95-inch LCD display capable of 120Hz refresh rate, stereo speakers, triple cameras, and a large 5,000 mAh battery with 33W charge support.

First is the dunk test. Although the Note 11 Pro isn’t rated for water resistance, the phone is dunked under shallow water for 30 seconds. There’s no immediately visible damage, though a later video teardown will confirm whether any water managed to enter the device.

The phone’s display comes with factory-installed screen protector. The glass underneath sees scratches at a level 8 with deeper scratches at a level 9 of Mohs hardness scale. The phone’s entire build is plastic. The frame, speaker grille, buttons, and camera bump are all made of plastic. The lens over triple cameras is made of glass, but a small lens over the LED flash is also made of plastic.

Despite all that plastic, the build of the Note 11 Pro is strong enough to withstand the bend test. The host gives the Infinix device a subjective 6.5/10 score, with points docked for not having an IP rating, having a plastic build and its susceptibility to scratches.
