There is absolutely nothing flawed in both school of thoughts cos survival in this context would be subjective. Since countries like Niger and Chad aren't extinct, I'm sure the North would and be on the same level as those countries. However, it would be one of the poorest countries in Africa and heavily dependent on foreign aids. Also, the South in this context would have to be the oil producing states and if they can harness what they have without leeches, that region can become one of the richest in the world.
