Education / Re: Should I Continue With Mathematics Or Write JAMB To Study Computer Science? by jaaif: 6:06pm On Jan 10, 2019 |
dauddy97: I'll advice you to continue with your mathematics program. Computer science is not something you drop out to study, with the proliferation of MOOCs everywhere on the internet, you can learn just about everything a CS degree in Nigeria would give you. Listen, myself and a lot of my friends are hardcore programmers and software architects and none of us have a CS degree, we learnt the art of our trade online, study mathematics and do the same. Though, these days, maths by itself is useless without programming. The beauty of maths in my industry is in the application which basically means you should focus more on your numerical methods. Scientific computing is hot right now and is a fine blend of both worlds (maths and CS). As for job opportunities, so long as you can master a few programming languages, you'll never have a problem. You're in 200 level, which means IT soon. Just improve your numerical methods skills (I mean master and own it) and you can apply at CypherCrescent LTD www.cyphercrescent.com, it's a Nigerian company that has some of the smartest dudes in the country, they do a lot of mathematical modelling, just the sort of thing you'll like. Look them up, contact me if you wish, I'll love to help you harness your passion for maths. Cheers bro. 2 Likes |
