Reason is just for work.
I visited but not these cities. I visited new York and went to queens, Brooklyn newyork and Binghamton.

Way too many blacks(I was almost feeling racist for counting black people cheesy cheesy) in Brooklyn and Queens. Things I noticed were that people were generally less trusting and accommodating.

1st experience in queens , a lady went into an eatery to ask them for their washroom and they refused to allow her use it. That wont happen In my friendly manitoba.

My friend was surprised that superstore in canada gave me a dollar to put in my cart without any hassle. Meanwhile while in Binghamton (which has more whites because it's a small city), I bought stuff from Walmart and paid cash and the cashier girl was busy staring at the 50 dollar bill and me like we were from Mars. Smh.....naija girl like me , I stared right back at her........mtcheww angry grin grin

So generally I haven't liked the feel from the few places I went but Canada get their own crase (professionally) so I wan separate from them ist before i know if i go file for divorce cheesy cheesy cheesy

As you are aware, the US is very diverse in all aspects of life.

Individuals have different preferences in choosing a city/state to live. While some prefer lower cost cities, others go for white neighborhoods, proximity to family, employment opportunities, weather, safety, traffic and even taxes.
Someone said that you are a Nurse, if that is right........I would prefer to apply as a travel Nurse, that would give you the opportunity to travel to different states/cities.....you get first hand experience of those places and can later decide where to settle down.

Anyways I live in Canada but would be moving south. I just wanted practical experiences like the gurus in the Canadian equivalent thread give.

Most people commenting here arent permanently living in the states. Visiting a place is different from spending at least a year there.

Info am seeking are things like mortgage price, insurance, cost of living in different places, best bank for a new commer, things to do and things to avoid.

So far I haven't gotten much info. Pls contribute if you have ideas about these things in Texas, Nebraska, new Mexico , Nevada, California (page 1 gave a little more on this).

Thank you all for your contributions.

Well some feel the other way round, you should have a good reason for moving south. It's always good to pay a visit. Why not travel down and have a feel

You are right though, cant imagine myself living in California, New York or even Chicago.. A friend told me he pays $2000 + for his apartment in California, shocked..

Really,

Interestingly there are a large populations of Nigerians in these areas. A friend once said the same thing until he got an offer in Northern California and left his house in Atlanta for the job. He later said he was just wasting his time there.

Central California is better when it comes to cost of housing compared to it's Northern and Southern neighbors but then I don't consider those things as very important as they are covered with the pay. Minimum wage in Atlanta is 7.25 while in San Francisco is 15. That means at the minimum level the person in San Francisco earns more than twice the person in Atlanta

Good afternoon all... Abeg I need help on immigration Visa.. A company in US offered me employment, they'll be the one to sponsor me including the flight fee. I'm still expecting my employment letter to arrive and the interview date to be fixed.. Does anyone have an idea how this process is and likely question the vo will ask while interviewing me.. thank you.

You have received good pointers from Thedream1900.

This is more like a generic information for others.

There are over 100 visa types issued by the US but I want to believe that your category falls under the H1B or EB visa categories.

These different classes take different processing times.

It is also a different process when you are in the US compared to when you are outside the US.

The interview can be extensive and your visa could be denied regardless of whether or not your petition is approved. Consular officers has powers

Take all necessary forms and documents along for the interview.

You should be well versed in the position that you will be filling. From your day to day tasks to your wages, the officer will likely question the specifics of your job in the U.S. It is important to remember that the purpose of the visa interview is to detect people who are attempting to enter the U.S. through fraudulent means. If your employment and qualifications are legitimate, then your interview experience should not be stressful.

Like I tell everyone if you are "good" the US needs you more than you need them.

True be told those Asian folks have better track record when it comes to IT or anything that has to do with numbers in comparison to an average Nigerian. Having said that, H1B is not limited to the field of technology as there are many fields that Nigerians excel as well. It's all about finding your niche.

You may be correct but that is a subjective issue but the truth is many Nigerians are not serious. The average Nigerian is more interested in the path of least resistance. You opted for employment based path not because it was the easiest but because your motivation was based on principles and determination. A number of your folks were distracted along the way, many overwhelmed by the American culture, even those married felt no qualms remarrying to obtain Green card, and others without the dexterity for higher education. Most of these ones have the financial backing but unfortunately couldn't follow through. In your case 80% were dropouts and that's not very different in other schools. If you could succeed other could. I will only excuse those in the minority without the financial capability to finish their studies.

Nice thread! I have been meaning to create a thread like this. Following!!!

By the way, I am a PhD student here in the US. Even though I am single, it is not my ultimate plan to use marriage to get a green card. It is never my thing. smiley

I like your motivation, provocation and inspiration. It is what you believe that you can achieve.

If it is not your car then whose? Why not find out from the owner to be sure.

You can see that the airbag was deployed.

I don't know if there is a topic about H1B visa on this platform but I have searched and could not find one.

There is no denying the fact that both indians and chinese dominate the pool for employment based visa in the U.S., but I believe there are Nigerians pursuing this highly coveted work visa/permanent residency. I'm pursuing my American dream through this path and would like to hear/share ideas with other Nigerians with similar experience.

Thank you!

Thanks for this. EB1, EB2, EB3 and H1B are great routes for migrating to the US. Quite unfortunate that many Nigerian students don't follow through on this. EB3 provides permanent residency while H1B is temporary which can also lead to permanent residency.
