should past Governors and Deputy Governors in Lagos continue to enjoy same salary as the current Governor?
should we have 37 extra local governments in Lagos that only drain the revenue and contribute nothing all with political jobbers?
should Fashola have so many commissioners and still have Special advisers?

James Wolfensohn was born in Sydney, Australia, on 1 December 1933.
In 1980, he became a naturalized citizen of the United States.
He accepted nomination to serve as president of the World Bank in 1995.
In October 2010, Wolfensohn regained his Australian Citizenship.

Bottomline: James Wolfensohn was an American citizen while he served as World Bank President. Who knows Ngozi may be an American citizen too!

I think the issue this time is not really who did it but that the situation that encouraged MEND to carry arms are still existing today even with a core NIGER DELTA man as the President, an Ijaw woman as Petroleum Minister, a Niger Deltan as NSA and Minister of Works, money being made available to NDDC, a Ministry for Niger Delta, 13% derivation, Amnesty programme for militants, all sorts of scholarship for Graduates from the Niger Delta etc.

This may have been Sylva at work but the truth is that issues are still there and Niger Delta do not have to many years left, will our Niger Delta brothers just be content with sharing their oil money or they want real development. The day Goodluck leaves the Presidency will be a sad day in the Niger Delta if this Federal structure is not addressed 'cos it doesn't pay the Niger Delta and they may never get any shot at the Presidency again!

Akpabi and Amaechi both give us something to hope about and if you will Oshimhole too!
Politics / Re: Former Militant, Boyloaf, Becomes Presidential Envoy by jacobs123(m): 8:37pm On Feb 02, 2012
very soon it will be 2015 or 2019 (Ask OBJ, it runs very fast!!!) and the Niger Delta will still have no roads, no companies, no jobs, no schools and the militancy will start again! This time boyloaf, Tompolo and co will have to give way to new the folks. I don't think even GEJ and his crew will be able to live in ND when the wave starts.

Let's not forget that what ever zone takes over will be more ruthless than what we are witnessing now. Yar Adua and his Katsina taught us how to do it and GEJ and his OCCUPY gang have perfected the art, the next phase is how to outdo them both!!!

IT IS WELL WITH NIGERIA.

Jacob123, Dermeister is spot on in his assessment. The well in question is Funiwa Deep-1A drilled on OML 86 as exploratory. While I wouldn't want to hinge all the blame on Chevron, they could have done more to forestall the suituation. Investigation will go on in the coming weeks and I hope lessons learnt will be implemented and not cast aside. We had Macoondo in APril of 2010, just 3 months shy of 2 years we have Funiwa only fewer casualties. A lot happened on the well -safety-to-operating cost assessment will help nip such catastrophe in the bud. I hope everyone involvedwill come clean.

while it's obvious that you know for sure what you are saying, I wonder if social media is the best place to discuss some of the info you are passing out here. Do you know that caution that needs to be applied in these kind of situations?

DerMeister:

This is why I don't come here often, most people have no idea of what's being discussed and post meaningless, m-oro-nic comments. The rig was drilling an exploratory well and took a gas kick, this led to a blow-out and the explosion/flames.

This is due to errors on the Operator's part (chevron).

Any  who doesn't know about the issues at stake should stay away and stop posting s h i. tty. comments

Can you please, explain better?

A lot of the production is 60:40 but there are also PSC oil where the FG may not be getting up to 40% and these are the prolific fields in the deepwater. In some of the JV fields FG may also not be getting 60% for various reasons.

The jamboree was already budgeted for. I'm asking about the 1.7 Trillion we made but we didn't anticipate we were going to make.

Nigerians need to also ask for a Post budget report, let's know how we implemented the budget quarterly and this is more important than the allocations that Madam OKONJO is publishing.
Politics / Re: How Subsidy Is Calculated, N1.3 Trillion Explained - Simple Calculation by jacobs123(m): 10:07am On Jan 12, 2012
don't forget that there is an excess crude account which means that in 2011 we made extra $40 for every barrel. assuming a budget benchmark of $70 and average crude price of $110.
Because of amnesty, 2011 was one of the best years for crude production and export in NIGERIA.

$40 * 2,000,000*365 = $29,200,000,000

Let's say Nigeria's  share of that is 40% given that we have PSC contracts where FG's share varies and JV contracts in which FG's share is 60%.

$29,200,000,000 * 0.4 = $11,680,000,000 = 1.752 Trillion Naira (@150naira to a dollar).

Jonathan made extra 1.7 Trillion in 2011 and we cannot point to anything to show for this money instead we borrowed more money.

If you did not see the 1.7 Trillion, what makes you think you will see 1.3 Trillion?

I must also point out that as we speak there are NIGERIANS who have oil blocks and getting crude allocations daily even though, they never put a kobo down for the oil blocks. It is our money and our oil. DANJUMA's oil block should be collected from him! Shell just paid DAN ETETE $1.3bn for out of court settlement for our oil block. That money should be our money!

since when have we been able to insist on anything? BANKOLA is still a free man. NIgeria is the only country where someone is a billionaire for just being a Government employee.

Till today NITEL is still government owned and subsidized.

But technology allowed the organized private sector to circumvent NITEL and its apparatus and our Telecoms industry was reborn. Hence your phones work and we can post on forums while protesters sweat in the harmattan sun.

NLC is protesting the Reform of the Power sector. The Oil Sector. The Railways.

UNTIL WE HAVE A GOOD TRANSPARENT, BUDGET SYSTEM, The embezzlement and corruption will CONTINUE.

Buhari cannot be the president of Nigeria because he is a religious leader. He once said that Muslim should vote only those that will promote their religion. This kind of man will be biased against other religions. They should vote for those that will promote their religion, not those that are capable of delivering the dividends of democracy.

and your pastor has never made that kind of comment before.
Ask yourself where did he make the statement, was it in a mosque or religious setting or during a political rally

Many people are already regretting they voted Jonathan yet you have not any lesson. This is why some of you will still be crying in 2015 because you won't make the right decision only to come back and type nonsense on nairaland.

Please how much did these buses cost and who bought them? Furthermore, where did the money for the buses come from since it's not in 2012 budget and also not in the Subsidy reinvestment programme to be managed by CHRIS KOLADE.

my estimate is that the buses would have cost a minimum of 32 billion at a conservative cost of 20Million for one.

Is sanusi trying to scare us? As far as most NIgerians are concerned it can't get worse so BRING IT ON!
Fuel subsidy is the only thing they have and are ready to persih with it!
I listened to Sanusi yesterday and he sounded convincing but his whole argument about the cabal and corruption doesn't help the fuel subsify argument. What if the same cabal and corrupt people steal the savings, what if refineries are still not built?

I'd say to Mallam Sanusi that for most Nigerians, all they are saying is we don't care what happens!

on a lighter note, Sanusi is really brilliant so also is Oshiomhole. I think Diezeani is holding a job that is beyond her pay grade and brain.

Eti Osa-Lekki-Epe Expressway: Real reasons Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa is fighting Lagos State Government

Fresh facts have emerged why Lagos lawyer, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa is at war with Lagos State Government under the guise of opposing the proposed tolling of Eti Osa-Lekki-Epe Expressway. Among the reasons are the following:

1. Adegboruwa was compelled by the Lagos State Government to register his office located on the 6th Floor, NIPOST Building, Lagos for the P.A.Y.E. Tax Scheme on September 18, 2008. Prior to this, it may interest you to know that Barrister Adegboruwa had no record of tax payment before 2008.

So, in 2009, he was given a Tax Assessment of N885,000 out of which he cleverly paid N449,500 thinking he could beat the system. On November 17, 2011, he was issued a Non-Compliance Notice in respect of Personal Income Tax by the Lagos Inland Revenue Service.

Those thinking that Adegboruwa is fighting for the masses can see the Unclad truth.

2. Barrister Adegboruwa, the self-acclaimed ‘’Advocate of the Masses’’ owns a mansion on No. 1, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa Close, Adegboruwa Junction, Itedo Road, Admiralty Way, Lekki Phase 1.

But that is not the news. Our noise-making, principled legal practitioner did not obtain any Street Naming Permit, neither a Building Approval. LASG has asked him to regularise his documents, but he is going about fighting an unjust war over tolling.

3. For a man who has neither a Building Approval as prescribed by law nor pay taxes so that government can provide more social infrastructure, Adegboruwa recently registered two new cars (Honda and Nissan Capster) with customised Premium Number Plates branded, JOY.

Though we are nearing the end of the 2011 fiscal year, a Tax Assessment of the sum of N2,112, 583.20 has been raised against this so called social crusader by LIRS. A Letter of Intent to prosecute him for tax default has been served.

Therefore, his agitations are all meant to whip up sentiment when his trial begins. He is cleverly trying to create the impression of ‘’persecution’’ by the state for standing up to fight in defence of the masses. But Lagosians are wiser. Barrister Adegboruwa is a tax evader. Period!

This is not surprising that LASG will resort to this to scare the MAN. I challenge you to revale your name and see what we will dig out about you!

what is in a PIB that can't be discussed in the open? Shallow minded and secretive people even when there is no need.

A few weeks ago, they discussed the security situation with President Jonathan in secret with a BOKO HARAM insider in the person ALI NDUME in attendance. We never learn anything. Couldn't the senators have refused the secret meeting or they just wanted an EXCLUSIVE on the PIB.

I am almost certain that anything about the PIB gets to the IOCs immediately they finish discussing it. THIS is why SAHARA REPORTERS will always be relevant!!!

Stanbic IBTC Bank has been appointed sole financial adviser to the Lagos State government on the proposed Lekki-Epe International Airport project to be

developed on a modular basis at an estimated project cost of N71.64bn ($450 million) in its first phase.

Situated about 10km from Lekki Free Trade Zone (LFTZ), the proposed airport will boost economic activities at the LFTZ scheduled to begin full operations in 2012. It will also drive urban development and tourism in the Lekki-Epe axis of Lagos State.

Our foolish optimism is what has got us to where we are as a nation, "where we celebrate plans to build this, plans to pay salary etc"

How long were they supposed to take in building the lekki FTZ zone and how long has it taken with nothing to show?
How long were they supposed to take in building the lekki epe expressway and how long has it taken with nothing to show but toll gate?

It's only the most incurable optimist that will believe that this airport will be delivered while Fashola is Governor.

This Lagos state Government is a SCAM. I won't be surprised if the whole idea is make the land prices in those areas go up especially now that their Lekki FTZ has not been able to sustain the high prices of the land in places like ABIJO GRA, lekki Scheme 2.

if he really believes in the highlighted, Mamora will still be a Senator today. Also his wife and son in law wont be legislators or did it just happen that all the decent and able men are from his family? Also Funso Williams would have been the AD Guber candidate in 1999 afterall he won, was decent and capable but instead of democracy, AD went for Gerontocracy and we ended up with this THUG called TINUBU. One of the things that make me happy is that he made all those old men regret their actions back then!

The whole essence of a hospital is the doctor-patient relationship.
Poeple walk into a hospital to see doctors and get their problems addressed.
Other health workers are in support roles to help the doctor achieve his desired result for the patient.
The problem is peoople lose sight of this fact in Nigeria and that's what leads to unneccessary rivalry.People should be proud to be what they are and stop trying to compete with doctors, its an inferiority complex.

I have to second this. This is the same mentality that has led to the demise of Polytechnics in NIgeria. They were always competing with Universiites, now we have no vocational skills and no technical professionals. The university and the polytechnic graduates have now become uselesss while we look for welders and other artisans from other countries!

I understand the OP's frustrations with this issue but a Pharmacist or Nurse becoming the medical director will not solve your issues. There are other ways to address these issue and the Doctors need to be magnanimous too, this winner takes all mentality in the management of our affairs is not helping us.
