Nairaland / General / Children Don’t Need Phones With Internet — Teco Benson by Jahelastic(m): 12:46pm On Jan 22, 2017
How would you define fatherhood?

Fatherhood for me is a higher call of responsibility. It involves a lot of mentoring; a lot of hard work because every father wants the best for his children.

What has been your greatest challenge as a father?

Sometimes as a father, there are things one wishes to do for one’s children. But because the financial resources are not there, one has to make do with what one has. Also, the society is a problem.

There is a way that would lead to a better tomorrow for the children and one makes all the efforts to set them on that path. But the kind of system that we have in the neighbourhood, school, etc, are not helping matters.

One thus needs a lot of extra work to deconstruct the things they pick up in school. You have to be on your guard always. Also, social media has come with a lot of challenges. The cartoons we thought were not corrupt have their own challenges including the movies and several things around us.

How do you discipline your children whenever they act up?

The word of God has always been the key. I always tell them the ‘reason why’ whenever I chastise them for doing anything wrong. I also use myself as an example.

At what age did you become a father
?

I married at the age of 30 and by 31, I was already a father.

How did you feel the day you held your first child?

My first child is a boy and I have five children now; all of them are boys. I was really happy the first day I held my first child.

Did you have any preference for a particular gender prior to the arrival of your children?

My heart was open. In the heart of every man, he would want a 50-50 gender of children; like having two boys and two girls or a boy and a girl. As the boys kept coming, my wife felt we would have a girl and that was why they became five. At a point, it became obvious that the will of God cannot be changed. But I have no problem with the gender because my boys are wonderful kids.

What special gift has your family given you in appreciation of your role as a father?

My children are still young because I am not that old. They have not reached the age of buying things to appreciate me. The appreciation I get from them is that when I give them instructions, they get to school, behave well and return with good grades. They also return home to tell me how they resist temptations. That is higher than any kind of gift they can give me. My eldest child is just about to clock 16.

How do you appreciate your wife?

I have appreciated my wife in different ways and I may not able to start mentioning them. She can testify to that including those closer to us.

What do you think about parents having favourite children?

It is very dangerous because it can cause friction in a family. Parents should be parents to all their children because they all have equal rights. Having a favourite child among children can cause sibling rivalry long after the death of their parents.

It happened to Joseph in the Bible whom his father made a coat of many colours. It made his brothers jealous and they planned to kill him. Every wise father should be careful not to tread such a dangerous path.

How best do you think parents can monitor their children’s activities on social media platforms?

I agree that social media is a kind of disaster for children. There are some things that young minds cannot control and only adults can. Even some adults do not have self-control not to talk of the young ones.

The best thing parents can do is to also be scientific and Internet savvy. They should give their kids phones with no Internet if they have to use phones at all. It is the duty of every parent to monitor their use of social media. Children discuss a lot of things on social media with their friends.

What is your view on corporal punishment?

I believe so much in discipline. The Bible says, ‘Spare the road and spoil the child.’ If you do not spank at all, it is bad but it must be done in moderation and the children must be told why they were beaten. I love my kids so much and I let them know what they do wrong anytime I discipline them.

What do your children say about your movies?

My children have not seen all my movies but they have watched Mission to Nowhere, Accident and Fast Lane. The questions they ask border on technicalities. If they see a bomb explosion or blood effect, they want to know how I achieved the effect. I thus will explain it to them.

Did you influence their interest in acting?

I am careful not to control their career choices because I believe that every child has a destiny. God has a career plan He wants each person to pursue. Though I will want to see one or two of them show interest in my work but I have been careful not to influence them.

They tell me what they want to study in the university. I know that reality will set in by the time they become mature.

What do you wish to do differently as a father?

I have been a meticulous and careful person. I try to reduce my mistakes and do not have any regrets in that regard.

What vital advice do you give your children about life?
I told them that to make it in life, they must be humble. I taught them to respect everybody no matter the person’s status.

My late father, Mr. Okoli Benson, was a civil servant who instilled good values in us. He was God-fearing, hard-working and did not believe in much pleasure and leisure. He believed so much in cause and effect; that whatsoever one sows is what one will reap.

There was a day he called me and told me that anything I did would be on me and not on him because he trained me well. He told me that if I listened to him, I would turn out well in life. He added that if I became successful it would be for my own good. He was a kind and good father. I am trying to make my children imbibe the good values and principles I learnt from him.

Nairaland / General / Stop Harassing Mrs. Jonathan, N-delta Youths Warn EFCC, Police by Jahelastic(m): 4:21pm On Jan 14, 2017
Coalition of Civil Rights Organizations has warned Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC and the Nigerian Police Force to stop the harassment on the former Nigerian first lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan.
The youths of Ijaw Nation Worldwide who protested yesterday in Port Harcourt described ongoing probe of Mrs. Jonathan as political witch-hunt.

Speaking while handing over a protest letter to the Rivers State Police Command and the Zonal office of the EFCC in Port Harcourt, the president of the youths, Amb Sukubo Sara-Igbe alleged that the security agencies and the EFCC were carrying out the bidding of some few politicians the nation.

Sara-Igbe noted that the probe was an act of injustice, and humiliation against the former President who he said saved democracy in the nation.

Submitting the protest letter to the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris through the State Commissioner of Police said: “The EFCC, DSS and Police at various times have come out to say that they are only in court or at conflict with the former First Lady Dr. Dame Patience Ebele Jonathan.

“This is laughable, there is no way these agencies can separate a humble, loyal and loving wife from the physical. This treatment of disrespect is coming after a man had served this country meritoriously by leaving behind the biggest economy in Africa and as African’s exemplary leader.”

He, however, warned that the continued attack on Jonathan’s family may elicit national and international reactions that would not do the country any good.

Meanwhile, the representatives of the police, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, Mr. Ahmed Magaji and the Deputy Head of EFCC, Port Harcourt, Mr. Usman Muhammed Mutai, promised to communicate appropriate quarters for immediate response on the matter.

Nairaland / General / How I Took Osun Varsity Girl To Herbalist For N10,000 by Jahelastic(m): 8:00am On Jan 13, 2017
A herbalist, simply identified as Jelili, and a commercial driver, Elijah Oyebode, are helping the Department of State Services, DSS, Osun State Command, on what led to the alleged kidnapping and killing of a 400 Level student of Osun State University, Osogbo, Adebisi Rofiat Damilola.

It would be recalled that Rofiat, who left Ipetu-Ijesa for Osogbo on December 22, 2016 got missing along the way and her corpse was later found on the roadside along Ikirun/Iragbiji road few days after.

Sources within the DSS disclosed in Osogbo that the driver had confessed that the herbalist gave him the assignment to bring a young lady and get N10,000 as reward.

The sources added that Elijah, in his confessional statement, said Rofiat boarded his vehicle from Ipetu-Ijesa to Osogbo, while returning from the Ipetu-Ijesa campus of UNIOSUN where she was studying Science Education.

Elijah, who spoke in Yoruba language with newsmen in Osogbo, said: “I took her (Rofiat) from Ipetu-Ijesa. There were other passengers in my vehicle that day. The girl matched the specification that Ifa (herbalist) gave me.
“Ifa said I should bring a lady that has never bore a child. When I saw the student, I was very sure that she had not given birth to a child.

‘We used charm’

“Ifa had given me a charm that I will use to hypnotise any lady that I want to bring. He said once I put the charm in my pocket, I only need to have body contact with the lady and she would be hypnotised.
“The charm was already in my pocket when I saw the lady and I ensured that my body touched her. From there, she didn’t know anything again.

“After dropping other passengers at their various destinations, I took the lady to Ifa in his house in Ikirun and he gave me N10,000. I pitied the lady when I was leaving because I knew she would not come out alive. My conscience was telling me that what I did was bad.
“When I left Ifa’s house, I went to a bush to dump the lady’s luggage which contained some clothes.

Few minutes later, her phone started ringing. I knew her people must be looking for her. I took the phone to Yusuf to help me sell it. I told Yusuf that a passenger forgot the phone in my vehicle.

“The phone kept ringing and I later picked it. Yusuff told me that it was dangerous to receive the call because they could use it to trace us. I removed the SIM card and threw it away instantly to prevent her people from reaching us. We sold the phone for N20,000 and shared it.”

The herbalist, in an interview with journalists, said the driver was telling lies and that Elijah was just his contract driver that he used occasionally.

A top DSS official said there was incriminatory evidence against the herbalist, adding that he was lying.

Nairaland / General / When I Saw Funke, It Was Love At First Sight – JJC Skillz by Jahelastic(m): 9:14am On Jan 08, 2017
Singer, producer and video director, AbdulRasheed Bello aka JJC Skillz, talks about his career and marriage to popular actress and producer, Funke Akindele-Bello.

When was the first time you knew you wanted to do music?

I think I have always wanted to do music from when I was a young boy. I used to have an area group in Kano, and we used to do Apala music from door-to-door. I actually thought I was going to become a Fuji star. We’d go to people’s houses, knock on their doors and when they opened, we made them laugh by singing some funny songs. From then, I knew I wanted to become an entertainer. When I moved to England at 14, I became a hip-hop artiste. Meanwhile, I formed my first group in school called Secret Weapon, and it has always been that way. I was always forming one group after another, until I had a successful group called Big Brovaz signed to Sony.

How did you coin the name JJC?

Back then, I had a heavy Nigerian accent, and everyone used to laugh at me. Hence, the reason I gave myself the name JJC which is an abbreviation of Johny Just Come, which is used to describe someone who just arrived a place. When I realised that they weren’t going to accept me, I decided that the best thing to do was to bring people from the neighbourhood together that had the accent and the swag. I created my own group, signed them and started promoting them, even though I was about 19 at the time. Two years later, we won the Music of Black Origin (MOBO) Award as the best unsigned artistes from London. From that point on, all the record labels wanted to work with us.

You have an affinity for being in groups, don’t you think you can stand alone?

I will say I am inspired by many people like Dr. Dre, Puff Daddy, Timbaland etc. Those people have their own identity, just like if anyone sees me, they will know that’s JJC of We Are Africans fame. But more importantly, it is about being able to transfer that knowledge that I have to other people. I do not see myself as just an entertainer, but as someone that can develop people. And that is why I have been developing groups and artistes.

After I got Big Brovaz signed to Sony and we went platinum, we travelled to America to do the movie, Scooby Doo. After that, I stepped out of the group because I felt it was becoming too oyinbo-like for me. I wanted to create something a bit more homely, because right from when I was a child, I was one of those guys that went about saying Nigeria is the best land. Then, people used to think I was crazy for saying that, but I knew that one day, I would come back home, and here I am. Anyway, while Big Brovaz was still big, I started another group called JJC and the 419 Squad, which was very successful as we had over a million album sales and won KORA award. However, most of the members later moved back to Nigeria, while I stayed back in the UK. I then decided to start another group called Mr Skillz and the Crazy Girls, which got signed to EMI Records. After that, I left the music scene and went into video production which is my other passion.

Of all the groups you have worked with, which did you have the most chemistry with?

I think I had chemistry with everyone I had worked with. Right now, I am having the time of my life with Scene One Productions, which is a new record label I’m working on with my wife, Funke Akindele-Bello.

Do you play any instrument?

I play a bit of the piano. On every single group I worked on, I did a bit of production. I also developed other producers, like Don Jazzy, to produce for groups as well.

When you first met Dbanj and Don Jazzy, did you have any inkling that they had what it takes to become superstars?

The truth is I usually see greatness in people even before they see it in themselves. When I first met Don Jazzy, he was a piano player for Mr. Solek; he was not a producer. But the passion he had for music made me know that he could be transformed into a wonderful producer. Dbanj was a harmonica player and he was very fun to be with. He was funny, lively and had the charisma of a super star. I saw all that in them, and that is why I picked them. And I picked so many other people just like that.

What was Don Jazzy’s role while you were working together?

He was an upcoming producer that was set to take over the scene. And that was what he was there for.

Are you still on good terms with Dbanj and Don Jazzy?

We are all cool; it’s one family. But you know they say, there are no permanent friends or enemies; just interests.

When Mo’hits fell apart, did you try to mediate and bring them back together?

When their journey continued after the JJC university of music, what they did and what they created was none of my business. And it is not really my place to come into someone else’s business and tell them what to do, and how to do it. So no, I did not get involved.

How are you finding the experience of being a video director?

It feels like a natural progression because I studied video editing and production, which I passed with distinctions. While still in the UK, I got a job as a video editor and I did that for two years, working for big companies. Music is more of a situation where you are always pumping money into it, but video is where you make money.

So you have made more money as a video director than as a music artiste?

I wouldn’t say that; I have made money both ways. The good thing about music is that if you do it well and monetise it, the money keeps on coming non-stop. You can make money from a song years after it was recorded and released.

As an entertainer, what has marriage changed about you?

It has made me more focused. It has also given me more stability and peace of mind.

You once said that you were wary of any kind of emotional attachment, why did you decide to get married to Funke Akindele?

In life, when you find the right person, nobody needs to tell you to settle down. It is like finding God; you may be a bad boy in the club today, and the next day, you’re in front of the church shouting ‘Halleluyah.’ Nobody can determine when that change will happen, and I’m very happy that it has happened to me.

How did you meet your wife?

She had an idea called Jenifa’s Diary that she wanted to do, and she was looking for a good director and cameraman, so she called me to help her shoot the TV series, and that was how we met.

Was it love at first sight?

Absolutely, it was an instant connection. In fact, it was love at first sight. I saw her,she saw me and, we saw stars. From that point on, everything was aligned.

What were the qualities you saw in her that made you know she is the one?

Ask every single man that is married, they will tell you the same thing. It is the same qualities that everybody wants.

So what are those qualities?

To be honest, I do not want to talk about my personal life. My wife is my baby and I cherish her a lot. If I start giving you all the secrets, people may want to snatch her from me.

Even if you do not tell us all, just give us a sneak peek…

The truth is I work really hard all the time, and a lot of the people I dated in the past used to complain that I did not devote time to them. But now, I have found my better-half who works as hard as I do, so it is a perfect combination, and the world is in trouble because we are the perfect team. As I am playing music, she is making me laugh. We have the perfect synergy, and what we are working on right now will blow people’s minds away. And I want to advise people in the entertainment industry to go and look for their better-half within the same industry, because it will give you more focus and direction.

But many people feel inter-marriages in the entertainment industry do not work, can you share some of what you have discovered that can help them?

Pray to God for direction because I did a lot of prayers and God answered. Different things work for different people. All I know is that God has given me what works for me.

GERALD710:

Mobile money requires a phone with a sim card of a network that supports mobile money. I presume most meat sellers have phones, dont theyIn Kenya, we have something called Lipa na MPESA for Safaricom, Lipa na Airtel for Airtel and Orange Paybill which have zero transactional fee if it is for payment of goods .So you just pay to the meat seller's till number.
In Kenya, even fast food joints have the Mobile Paybil option, POS or in many cases, both.

In this case, that means Nigeria have just decided on their own not to develop at all.

Nairaland / General / Woman Kills Husband Over Christmas Food by Jahelastic(m): 8:11am On Dec 27, 2016
While Nigerians were celebrating Christmas in their homes, a housewife, Christiana Odo, allegedly killed her husband, Rominus, for failing to provide money for the family during the celebration.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the incident happened at the couple’s home on London Barber Street, Majidun, in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.

It was learnt that Christiana, 37, had asked the husband for money for food to celebrate Christmas, but the husband had said he didn’t have any money.

This was said to have led to a quarrel between the couple, which degenerated into a fight.

Our correspondent was told that in the ensuing scuffle, Christiana, a mother of three, picked a kitchen knife, with which she stabbed the husband to death.

A police source said the incident happened around 5.20pm, adding that it threw the community into confusion.

He said, “The woman asked the man for money for food, but the man turned her down, saying he didn’t have money. This led to an argument and the man hit her. They fought and the woman, in anger, went into the kitchen and got a knife with which she stabbed him to death.

“What attracted neighbours was the man’s scream for help as he was drenched in blood. The woman said it was not intentional.”

The landlord was said to have reported the case to policemen from the Owode Onirin division, who arrested the suspect.

The victim’s corpse was reportedly deposited in the Ikorodu General Hospital’s morgue.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident, saying the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba.

She said, “It was a resident that came to report at the station that the man fought with his wife. In the process, the woman stabbed him to death. The police visited and photographed the scene. The suspect was arrested and the corpse deposited in a morgue.

The case is still under investigation as we await the result of the autopsy. Meanwhile, the case has been transferred to the SCIID.”

People need to take advantage of the many cashless policies banks have now. I don't understand why many still need cash and have to go to the bank. This country needs to grow up. Money is no more that paper you have in your hand. It's now those electronic figures on your phone.

Kenya has been using mobile money for years. We need to learn from them.

You are very right but the truth is how will you pay some sellers if you decide to do cashless things, do you know that you still need cash to pay some people? People like meat seller, pepper seller, yam seller & lots of them like that. Remember they don't have POS.

Nairaland / General / Robbers Attack Calabar Christmas Village, Rob Kiss Daniel by Jahelastic(m): 7:13am On Dec 27, 2016
Fun seekers in the early hours of Monday scampered to safety after armed robbers stormed the Calabar Christmas Village while a popular Nigerian musician, Daniel Anidugbe, aka Kiss Daniel, was performing.

PUNCH Metro learnt on Monday that the robbers, whose numbers could not be ascertained, stormed the village at about 1am and shot repeatedly into the air while dispossessing people of their valuables.

It could not be confirmed if anyone was killed in the incident, but it was learnt that several people were stabbed.

It was learnt that some others, who sustained gunshot injuries, had been hospitalised.

The Calabar Christmas Village, which is located in the precinct of Calabar Municipal Council Secretariat, opens for 24 hours from December 1 to December 31 every year as a central location of revelry.

It was not clear if Kiss Daniel was injured, but an eyewitness said the robbers rushed to the stage while the pandemonium was on and succeeded in removing some items from the musician before he was whisked away by security operatives.

An injured shop owner in the village, Glory Andem, told PUNCH Metro that the presence of robbers became obvious when some spectators started throwing bottles at the musician.

She said, “It was a serious situation and I got injured. What happened was that some guys came into the village and tried to rob Kiss Daniel when he was singing, ‘Oya talk to me o mama.’

“They were throwing bottles and other things at him. Before we knew it, they brought out guns and started shooting. Some security men immediately rushed to the singer. But even with the security, the robbers rushed at him and removed his clothes and collected things from him.

“They would have killed that guy. To be honest, I don’t know how he managed to escape. You know there are several thousands of people in the Christmas village usually and the situation led to a serious pandemonium.

“They broke up everything in my shop. They took all my money. They robbed a lot of shops. Our chairs were broken. Everybody was running at the same time. It was a terrible experience.

“Several cars were vandalised. They broke the cars to steal from them. At a point, the lights went off and I thought I was going to die. As I speak with you, I have a serious cut from the incident and I want to go to a hospital to take a tetanus injections.”

But the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Jimoh Ozi-Obeh, said it was not a robbery attack, but a misunderstanding between the organisers.

He said the original plan was that Kiss Daniel and other musicians would perform at the U.J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar, but the venue was changed to the Christmas village without any notice to security agencies.

“There was no robbery incident in Calabar and nobody was attacked by robbers in any other part of Cross River State. What happened was that the government had initially planned to host the musician at the stadium, but the plan was changed to the Calabar Christmas Village. They probably had misunderstanding with the organisers. It was the change of venue that was not properly organised,” he said.

Efforts to get the state government to comment proved abortive as no official was willing to speak.

Business / Benin Residents Keep Vigil In Banks To Use Atms by Jahelastic(m): 4:07pm On Dec 24, 2016
Barely 24 hours to Christmas, residents of Benin city are keeping vigil in the banks to use Automated Teller Machines (ATMs).

Few of the ATMs in some banks visited in Benin on Saturday were dispensing cash.

Many of the residents said that they had been in some of the banks as early as 5a.m.to avoid the crowd that would arrive in the bank premises later.

They also raised concern about their suffering in getting access to the machines which they alleged were not even fed with enough cash for the day.

For instance, Mr John Ebidah, said people had been exposed to risk all in attempts to withdraw money via ATMs.

He called for the relevant authorities to urgently look into the matter, especially bank managers in Benin.
Another resident, Mr Osato Owie, alleged that the banks deliberately refused to put enough money in the machines.

“I don’t understand how one, with his money in the bank, can find it extremely difficult to make use of ATMs.

Similarly, Mrs Nkechi Goddy-Asekomhe, said after several attempt at making use of the ATM, she met with one official of a particular bank.

“He told me that it was because of the cash challenges that made the bank to load few ATMs,’’ she quoted the official.

Nairaland / General / Christmas: Orphanages Lament Low Gifts by Jahelastic(m): 11:17am On Dec 24, 2016
Olufemi Atoyebi, Samuel Awoyinfa, Success Nwogu, Jesusegun Alagbe, Enyioha Opara, Peter Dada and Gibson Achonu
Orphanages across the country have said that the gifts they received during this Christmas season are lower compared to previous years.

Pointing at the economic recession in the country as responsible for this, they expressed worry that poor donations to their homes could lead to hunger among children.

The Administrator, Hope Orphanage in Ilorin, Kwara State, Mrs. Grace Yeye, told Saturday PUNCH that the volume of gifts to the foundation had reduced by 30 per cent in the last one year.

Yeye said that 2016 had been a difficult year for the home.

She said, “Gifts donated to our home have reduced by about 30 per cent in the past one year and the reduction is because of economic recession.

“2016 has been a very difficult year. Nigerians should help us by donating more gifts. We do not have enough money again to cater for the children.”

The Ondo State Children’s Home was also affected as the volume of gifts to the home has dropped in the past one year.

A civil servant in Ondo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, who works in the department that is in charge of the children’s home, told one of our correspondents on condition of anonymity that the orphanage had never faced a harder time since it was established.

He said, “It is a serious matter; it has never been like this in this home. This time last year, our children’s home was full of gifts.
“But now, the recession has affected us. Though we got gifts from some people, they are far less than what we used to get.”

In one of the Cheshire homes in Ibadan, Oyo State, a storekeeper, who also spoke on condition of anonymity, said the story was the same there.

“Majority of donors who came this year were aged people who only came to thank God for granting them longevity. Even the politicians are not coming like they did last year.

“The children are helpless; some of us working here do so voluntarily because we do not base our commitment on commensurate remuneration. We appeal to the public, especially wealthy individuals and corporate bodies, to help these children.”

Also, in a private orphanage in Abeokuta, one of the workers there told Saturday PUNCH that the volume of gifts to the home had reduced.

He said, “We used to get many bags of rice from people, some of whom used to come here to celebrate their birthdays and wedding anniversaries, but now I can count the number of bags of rice in our store.

They are so few. I believe the reason for this is recession.”

Also speaking to Saturday PUNCH, a social worker who works at the Government Orphanage Home in Minna, Niger State, Mr. Haruna Abdullahi, said that unlike before, no one had identified with the home to give the children Christmas gifts.

“As I am talking to you, no one has called us to say they are coming with gifts, unlike before. It is unfortunate,” he said.

Describing 2016 as the toughest year in the 16 years of the home’s existence, Abdullahi called on Nigerians to remember to help orphans even in the face of the current economic crisis.

While lamenting to Saturday PUNCH, a worker at God’s Children Home in Osogbo, Osun State, Mr. Folorunsho Adeosun, also said, “It has not been easy. Many of our donors are from Lagos and they used to give without being reminded to do so. We have sent reminders twice in the past three months, but the responses we have got are not like what we used to get,” he said.

In Owerri, Imo State capital, the Matron of Red Cross Motherless Babies Home, Lady Cecilia Okere, described 2016 as a difficult year.

The Matron, who spoke through a volunteer, Mrs. Ogu Udoka, stated that the low patronage was borne out of the economic recession currently bedevilling the country.

She said, “The gifts received this year cannot be compared with what we got last year. 2016 is a very difficult year and has been full of challenges.”

Nairaland / General / We Hand Over Ige’s Killers To God For Judgment –son by Jahelastic(m): 7:43am On Dec 24, 2016
A former Commissioner for Lands and Physical Planning in Osun State, Mr. Muyiwa Ige, has said the family has handed over the masterminds and killers of Chief Bola Ige over to God for punishmenat.

Muyiwa said this in an interview with journalists during a service held to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the murder of the late politician, who was the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice at the time he was shot dead on December 23, 2001.

Ige, a former governor of the old Oyo State, was assassinated at his Bodija residence in Ibadan and those behind the killing had yet to be brought to justice 15 years after.

Muyiwa said, although his father died for democracy to thrive, Nigeria was not worth wasting one’s life for.

He said, “We thank God for his mercies. We thank God for wonderful legacies. It has not been easy but God has kept us on and by the grace of God, all the perpetrators behind his (Ige) death, God will deal with them. It was my father’s death that took away my mother some 20 months later.

“But whether the country wants to immortalise my father or not, I don’t care inasmuch as the State Government of Osun has named a university after my father, which is massive.

“It is the highest level of immortalisation. The road in this community is about 5km and it is named after my dad. There is a Bola Ige Information Technology Centre in Abuja. There are streets in Oyo State named after him.

“My father believed in Nigeria. He said Nigeria was worth living and dying for. The truth of the matter is, once your heart is in the right place, Project Nigeria is worth pursuing for all of us. Death is what we all owe and he paid the price for democracy to thrive.

“I am not so sure that Nigeria is worth dying for; however, we all have a responsibility to ensure that we don’t waste our lives for Nigeria.”

Earlier, the Anglican Bishop of the Diocese of Ijesha North, Rt. Rev. Isaac Oluyamo, urged the present day politicians to emulate Ige, whom he described as selfless.

The bishop said the free education provided by the administration of Ige was unparalleled. He stated that although there was still free education in some states, the quality of such programmes could not be compared with what Ige did.

The Owaniran of Esa Oke, Oba Adeyemi Adediran, also eulogised the late politician who he said sacrificed everything for the development of the masses.

Among the dignitaries present were monarchs, friends and family members including Ige’s daughter, Mrs. Funso Adegbola.

Business / See How MMM-NG Frozen Accounts Affect Banks Withdrawal Actions In Nigeria by Jahelastic(m): 10:37pm On Dec 22, 2016
Obviously, it is no longer business as usual for several banks in Nigeria as the most ever spread online induced financial community networking system frozen the "get help" request of assistant by all the its participant leading to the insufficiency of physical cash flow in the country.

" it turns out that MMM has been keeping some of our banks in business for a while and we didn't even know.

For your enlightenment and almost archaic mind, Most banks are now regulating withdrawals, giving you half of what you intend to withdraw.. 2nights ago, I needed cash so much that I went round Yenagoa, But to my surprise. No ATM could pay. In the whole of Yenagoa O, I had to call my friend to come pick me up because I had exhausted all the little cash I had hopping from one keke to another.

If you don't know what that means, I'll explain to you. Banks are trying to control withdrawals both on counter and outside the bank by loading their ATMs with less cash.. I could technically say our Banks are freezing too, because why on earth would you tell me I can't get all my money when I need it most.. Same reason in which the HYPOCRITIC and HUNGRY Nigerian Media Platforms have grossly and IGNORANTLY criticised MMM. A platform they know NOTHING about.

MMM critics, I'm starting to wonder why y'all suddenly went mute.. The bank didn't even notify you before taking this very sensitive decision that could send panic ripples amongst the masses, and let me remind you morons, your life savings and all your hopes are stuffed up there too. and Guess what, you don't even know when the cash crunch banks are facing at the moment will be over, or how worse it could get. We know of MMM, Its Jan 14th..

Data is now cheap, thanks to GLO,

Infinix, Tecno, Gionee, and other China phones are cheap too, so you can sit down at the corner of your one room apartment to type shades on social media about MMM. Many came out blabbing and Wailing of how they warned MMM participants prior, Claiming TB Joshua Upandan.. Infact we are just getting over your euphoria about the freeze.

I know none of those media platforms will say anything about this.. Infact I just got word that many banks are suspending online activities.

If your bank is still active, go get all the cash you will need for this festive period in due time and thank me later.

I am a proud participant of MMM and I will still put my spare money come January 14th, at least to keep Nigerian Banks in Business. Say whatever you like, It doesn't add to me nor belittle my status quo.

Millions of Nigerians Have benefited from MMM and they fully understand the risk involved to the letter.. They don't need your coward ass to remind them of their loss or gain. Instead of you to mind your business and wish them well, you keep criticising all about wasting your valuable time and secretly wishing the system crashed already, Just to boost your ego.

Wait, Is it your money? Is it your risk? or has anyone forced you to participate.. One of my mentor once told me "There Has Never Been a Statue Raised for a Critic"

So you can keep at it while I achieve my dreams with calculated risks

I could continue writing but I need to go queue on a very long Queue at the Bank..

Nairaland / General / FG Okays 5% Of Recovered Loot For Whistleblowers by Jahelastic(m): 7:02am On Dec 22, 2016
The Federal Executive Council on Wednesday approved the Ministry of Finance Whistleblowing Programme that may see individuals, who voluntarily volunteers credible information on stolen or concealed funds, smiling home with between 2.5 per cent and five per cent of the funds when recovered.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed; Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun; and the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, briefed State House correspondents at the end of the meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Adeosun said the programme was designed to encourage anyone with information about a violation, misconduct or improper activity that impacted negatively on Nigerians and government, to report such.

She said, “If there is a voluntary return of stolen or concealed public funds or assets on the account of the information provided, the whistleblower may be entitled to anywhere between 2.5 per cent (minimum) and 5.0 per cent (maximum) of the total amount recovered.

“You must have provided the government with information it does not already have and could not otherwise obtain from any other publicly available source to the government.”

The minister said the programme would serve as a stop-gap till a bill on the same matter, presently before the National Assembly, was passed into law.

She explained that there would be a secure online portal where the information could be submitted.

After submitting such information, she said the whistleblower could also check the status of his report on the portal.

Examples of information that could be submitted, according to the minister, are mismanagement or misappropriation of public funds and assets, including properties and vehicles; financial malpractice or fraud; collecting/soliciting bribes; and corruption.

Others infraction, the minister said, included diversion of revenues; fraudulent and unapproved payments; splitting of contracts; and procurement fraud that included kickbacks and over-invoicing among others.

Adeosun, however, warned that under the programme, personal matters, concerning private contracts or agreements, would not be allowed.

She explained that the information could be submitted through the online portal by e-mail or by phone.

The finance minister added that the information, which could be submitted on condition of anonymity, could be submitted through documentary evidence and provision of specific and fact-based information such as what occurred, amount involved, who was involved and dates of occurrence on the portal.

Adeosun added, “Confidentiality will be maintained to the fullest extent within the limitations of the law. If you choose not to disclose your identity, there will be no record of who you are. If you choose to disclose your identity, it will be fully protected.

“If you ‘whistleblow’ in public spirit and in good faith, you will be protected. If you feel that you have been treated badly because of your report, you can file a formal complaint.

“If you have suffered harassment, intimidation or victimisation for sharing your concerns, restitution will be made for any loss suffered.”

Adeosun added that the information provided would be reviewed and analysed to determine whether or not to open an investigation into the matter.

In matters that are criminal in nature, she said such cases would be referred to relevant agencies such as the police, the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related Offences Commission or the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The minister explained that apart from possible prosecution, those found guilty would be blacklisted from working with or doing business with the government.

Adeosun, however, warned that false information could attract prosecution.

She said, “A first-level review will always be carried out to determine credibility and sufficiency of information received.

“If you report false or misleading information, it will be referred to the enforcement agents for investigation and possible prosecution.”

Health / 10 Factors Responsible For Low Sperm Count by Jahelastic(m): 6:03pm On Dec 21, 2016
A man’s fertility rate generally relies on the quantity and quality of his sperm. If the amount of sperm a man ejaculates is low or if the sperm is of poor quality, it will be difficult and sometimes impossible for him to impregnate a female.

According to Prof. Oladapo Ashiru, a male infertility is usually caused by problems that affect either sperm production in the testes or sperm transport.
See 10 of such causative factors of low sperm count in men.

Prior surgeries

Certain surgeries, including vasectomy, might prevent you from having sperm in your testicles. Inguinal hernia repairs, scrotal or testicular surgeries, prostate surgeries, and large abdominal surgeries performed for testicular and rectal cancers, among others, are also suspect. In most cases, surgery can be performed to either reverse these blockages or to retrieve sperm directly from the epididymis and testicles.

Environmental causes

Sperm production or function can be affected by overexposure to certain environmental elements, including:

Industrial chemicals

Extended exposure to benzenes, toluene, xylene, herbicides, pesticides, organic solvents, painting materials and lead might contribute to low sperm counts. Exposure to lead or other heavy metals also can cause infertility.

Radiation or x-rays

Exposure to radiation can reduce sperm production. It can take several years for sperm production to return to normal. With high doses of radiation, sperm production can be permanently reduced. It is being reported that keeping mobile phones in the pocket, close to the upper thigh, is extremely deleterious to sperm production with resulting low sperm count and morphology.

Drug use/Alcohol

Anabolic steroids taken to stimulate muscle strength and growth can cause the testicles to shrink and sperm production to decrease. Use of cocaine or marijuana might reduce the number and quality of your sperm as well. Alcohol can lower testosterone levels and cause decreased sperm production.

Occupation

Certain occupations might be linked with a risk of infertility, including welding or those associated with prolonged sitting, such as truck driving. However, the data to support these associations are inconsistent.

Lifestyle

Men who smoke might have a lower sperm count than those who don’t smoke.

Also, obesity can impair fertility in several ways, including directly impacting sperm and by causing hormone changes.

Plastics

Bisphenol A, an additive to plastics found in many household products, can lower sperm count and motility. A 2008 study in the journal, Fertility and Sterility, showed that men with high concentrations of BPA in their urine also had low sperm counts. Food packaging is a major source of BPA which can seep into foods.

Pesticides

Scientists also noted that rural men who are mostly farmers who are exposed to pesticides tend to have low sperm count. The chemicals runoff gets into tap water and can disrupt hormonal processes.

Tumours

Cancers and nonmalignant tumours can affect the male reproductive organs directly, through the glands that release hormones related to reproduction, such as the pituitary gland, or through unknown causes. Surgery, radiation or chemotherapy to treat tumours can also affect male fertility.

Nairaland / General / Ambode Releases Lake Rice by Jahelastic(m): 4:51pm On Dec 21, 2016
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode and his Kebbi State counterpart, Alhaji Atiku Bagudu on Wednesday released the much anticipated Lagos-Kebbi Rice christened ‘LAKE RICE’, saying the partnership which culminated into the inauguration was not only designed to ensure food security but showcase the ability of Nigeria to become a producing nation.

Speaking at the launching ceremony held at Lagos House in Ikeja, Governor Ambode said the development was a great and historic moment for both states and Nigeria, as the rice would not only be sold at highly reduced price, compared to what obtains in the market, but is also very fresh and safe for consumption.

“Today is an historic day for Lagos and Kebbi States. In March 2016, we signed an MOU with an understanding that we, being proudly Nigeria, we want to come out with what is made in Nigeria and what is good in Nigeria. We took all that President Muhammadu Buhari said that we need to grow our food and we decided that we will prove a point and that is what today is all about.

“LAKE RICE is of good quality. The major difference between LAKE RICE and the ones imported is that the imported has a minimum storage of five to six years storage life span, but LAKE RICE is fresh,” the Governor said.

He said the partnership would in the nearest future lead to an expansion of production of the rice, saying that Lagos has the largest consumption market.

Giving a breakdown of the prices, Governor Ambode said that while the 50kg will sell for N12, 000, 25kg would go for N6, 000 and 10kg for N2, 500, adding that for now, an individual would only be allowed to purchase a bag to enable it go round.

He also commended President Muhammadu Buhari for supporting the collaboration between Lagos and Kebbi, just as he disclosed that the Federal Government has donated two rice mills to the State Government to increase production of rice next year.

Nairaland / General / Passengers Stranded Nationwide As Labour Shuts Down Arik Air by Jahelastic(m): 7:01am On Dec 21, 2016
Air passengers were stranded at airports across the country yesterday, following crippling of Arik Air’s operations by protesting unions.
The National Union of Air Transport Employees, NUATE, the Air Transport Senior Staff Services Association of Nigeria, ATSSSAN, and the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers, NAAPE, had embarked on the protest due to the airline’s inability to pay its workers seven months salaries and other anti-labour practices.

Arik reaches truce with unions, resumes operations Meantime, the unions that grounded the operations of the airline were yesterday said to have agreed to shelve the strike following the intervention of Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA.

The regulatory authority brokered a meeting between the unions and Arik Air top management. A communiqué issued after the meeting was signed for Arik Air by Deputy Managing Director, Capt. Ado Sanusi, Associated Vice President, Treasury, Arik Air, Mr. Garuba Akeem, while Comrade Ocheme Aba, Comrade Francis Akinjole and Olayinka Abioye of NAAPE, ATSSSAN and NUATE respectively signed for the unions.

Also, Capt Abdullahi Sidi, Director, Operations and Training who represented the Director-General of NCAA, signed for the authority.

The communiqué said Arik Air has undertaken to pay the outstanding salaries, including October and November, 2016 salaries before the end of the year Passengers’ experience Before the truce, passengers who had bought tickets online and were billed to travel yesterday couldn’t as a result of the protest.

Many of the visibly angry passengers swore never to patronise the airline again because of its penchant for moving from one crisis to another. A passenger in Lagos who simply identified himself as Ikechukwu, said Arik Air had forced him to spend about N70, 000 on tickets to fly to the east, lamenting that the flight was cancelled on Monday, only for him to report to the airport yesterday to meet a disheartening situation.

“I have no choice; I will have to go by road because I do not have any more money. I will never patronize Arik Air again. Why all these crises? ‘’Last week, it was London passengers; today, domestic passengers, and no consideration for passengers and their business that suffer,” Ikechukwu fumed.

Another female passenger who angrily told Vanguard to call her any name, said Arik Air had ruined her day as she had serious business to transact in Abuja. “I have gone to the other airlines’ counters but they are full. I cannot stand such crowd; I have resolved to go by road,’’ she lamented.

The airline’s international flights were also affected. An elderly passenger who told Vanguard to advise Arik Air owner to always take the interest of passengers to heart before fighting workers who make the airline survive, said until passengers started instituting legal actions against airline owners, they would not learn.

“How can this man ruin my business today, I will not buy their tickets again ,” he swore. Reports from Abuja, Benin, Port Harcourt and all other routes flown by the airline indicated a similar situation. Another passenger, Tomisin Olukare, said she bought a one-way ticket from Lagos to Abuja for N42, 000 three days ago.

“I came this morning and there is nobody to attend to me and my flight was supposed to leave by 10:00 a.m., so I am really confused,” she said. Chika Emmanuel, yet another passenger, said an agent assisted her to buy an Air Peace ticket for Abuja immediately she sensed that there was going to be a disruption in Arik Air operations.

Nairaland / General / Pay Us Now Or We’ll Take Bribes Like Policemen –FRSC Officials Threaten by Jahelastic(m): 8:44pm On Dec 20, 2016
Some officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps have threatened to obtain bribes the same way policemen extort money from motorists if they are not paid their November salaries and allowances before Christmas.

The officials, who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, said the Federal Government had refused to offer any explanation for the non-payment.

They said this was unfortunate, because they had been asked to work during the holidays as part of the ‘ember months’ campaign.

An official, who identified himself only as Patrick, said the government had no excuse for withholding salaries since the FRSC is a revenue-generating agency.

He said, “The government is being very unfair to us. Christmas is next Sunday and many of us who are male officials have been asked to remain on the roads to ensure that the roads are safe.

“How can the agency ask me to spend Christmas on the road and at the same time deprive me of my salary?

“They should not turn corps officials into policemen because that is what will happen if we are not paid.”

A female FRSC official, who is a single mother, said the non-payment of salaries had affected her, as she had not been able to do any shopping for her children.

She said, “Everyone knows that the prices of goods increase during Christmas and that is why most people try to do their shopping early December. It is bad enough that we are witnessing a recession but the government should not worsen our condition by withholding our pay.

“What will I feed my children this Christmas? Where will I get the money to take them out to have fun? They cannot tell us not to extort money from motorists and at the same time deprive us of our salaries. It is unfair.”

Another official, who identified himself only as Abiodun, told our correspondent that in the last five months, corps officials had been receiving salaries on the seventh day of the following month.

He added that the agency and the government had failed to explain to officials why things had gone bad.

Abiodun said, “There have always been bad eggs in the agency, but the fact that most officials are well paid sort of reduced the number of bad eggs.

“However, now that salaries are not being paid, the government seems to be giving officials the ‘green light’ to indulge in corrupt practices. You cannot flog me and ask me not to cry.”

When contacted on the telephone, the FRSC’s Head of Media Relations and Strategy, Mr. Bisi Kazeem, told our correspondent that the salary issue was not the fault of the agency but the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System, the platform through which Federal Government officials are paid.

Kazeem, however, said officials would not resort to bribes as they are paid separately for patrols.

He said, “The salary issue is from IPPIS and not from us; so, I suggest you get in touch with the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation.

“The salary issue is being sorted out and anyone who takes bribes knows the implications. Anyone who is caught collecting bribes will be dismissed.”

The victims were an assistant nursing officer, Abolanle Adesuyi and a serving corps member, whose identity could not be ascertained as of the time of filing this report.

Nairaland / General / German Govt. Threatens Facebook by Jahelastic(m): 1:11pm On Dec 20, 2016
German officials have recently threatened to impose fine on Facebook over hate speech and fake news, local media reported on Tuesday. Thomas Oppermann, the Parliamentary Leader of Germany’s Centre-Left Social Democratic Party (SPD), told Der Spiegel, the English language international edition of the German news source, that tougher measures should be taken against the spread of offending and fake messages.

He said “if after taking necessary checks Facebook doesn’t promptly remove the offending messages in 24 hours, then Facebook has to reckon with severe fine of up to 500,000 Euros (523,000 dollars).’’

Oppermann advised Germans to timely report hateful messages within 24 hours “to market-leading platforms” like Facebook for further check. The SPD leader added that these platforms should set up special departments in Germany that could provide users with round-the-clock legal protection.

He said that other measures would also be taken to keep a healthy environment on the internet. The German Minister of Justice, Heiko Mass in an article published on Saturday on Sueddeutsche Zeitung also cautioned Facebook against “legal consequences if it refuses to delete insults, hatred against certain groups or slanderous contents on its platform.’’

Mass added that penalty was also being considered to provide effective incentives for quick action. Adam Mosseri, the Vice President of Facebook in charge of news feed said a programme had started to work with third-party fact checking organisations to enable users to report a hoax.

Facebook had been under pressure for a while as it had many fake news on its network during the U.S. election year, misleading voters and having impacted the result of the presidential election. German mainstream media worry about such a potential impact on the results of German elections in 2017. Report says the European country is facing an increase in far right-wing groups.

Nairaland / General / IPOB Warns Buhari Against Visit To Enugu by Jahelastic(m): 10:29am On Dec 20, 2016
The Indigenous People of Biafra, on Monday, warned President Muhammadu Buhari to ‘stay clear’ of the South-East.

The President is slated to attend the opening session of the South-East Economic Summit in Enugu on Thursday.
But IPOB, in a statement entitled, ‘Muhammadu Buhari must stay clear of Biafra land or have himself to blame for the outcome of any such visit,’ told the President to cancel the planned visit.

The secessionist group, in a statement signed by its spokespersons, Emma Nmezu (a lawyer) and Dr. Clifford Iroanya, equally warned Igbo governors and other political leaders against hosting Buhari in Enugu or any other part of the South-East.

IPOB warned that the Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and other leaders should be held responsible for any breakdown of law and order in the state if Buhari went ahead to visit the Coal City on December 22.
The pro-Biafran group alleged that Buhari was a ‘killer and persecutor’ of Igbo and should not be allowed to visit the geopolitical zone.

The statement read in part, “The Indigenous People of Biafra have received information that Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) will be visiting Enugu on the 22nd of December, 2016. We object totally to this visit.

“We warn that any governor or Igbo politician that receives Buhari in Enugu will have himself or herself to blame. We make it public that should there be a breakdown of law and order in Enugu on the 22nd of December, greedy Igbo politicians will have themselves to blame.

“Any Igbo governor or politician that is found among those hobnobbing with Buhari becomes an enemy of the people and shall pay dearly for it.”

IPOB also demanded an investigation into the Amnesty International report, which accused the army of mass killing of Biafra activists.

The group urged all pro-Biafra activists to be in Enugu on December 22 to show their anger over Buhari’s visit.

“We are calling on all Biafrans to descend on Enugu on the said date of December 22, 2016 to show our anger and displeasure at this attempt by some greedy Igbo men to insult the memory of our glorious dead and those still in detention with our leader.

The police could not be reached for comment as calls to the Force spokesman, Donald Awunah, indicated that his line was unreachable. He had yet to respond to an SMS as of the time of filing this report.

Sports / We Have Nothing To Hide—nff by Jahelastic(m): 7:38am On Dec 19, 2016
The General Assembly of the Nigeria Football Federation has told the Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Barr. Solomon Dalung that it has done no wrong in its handling of the FIFA grant and development fund.

In a communique issued at the end of its Annual General Assembly in Lagos yesterday, the NFF passed a vote of confidence on its President, Amaju Pinnick, who it commended for his high sense of integrity.

“The Congress expressed satisfaction with the explanation provided by the Executive Committee on a number of issues raised by the Minister of Youth & Sports (Barr. Solomon Dalung) at the opening ceremony (division within the Board, FIFA Audit Query and late submission of memos), and submitted that the Minister was misinformed about the activities of the Board.

“Congress noted the submission of the Executive Committee that at no time previously (official or unofficially) did the Minister raise these issues with the NFF leadership to obtain clarification, which the Federation would have gladly provided, just as it did to the House Committee on Sports during a recent sitting on its budget performance and budget proposal. Indeed, the audited account of the Federation for the year, as audited by PricewaterhouseCoopers, an internationally reputable audit firm, was presented and adopted at the General Assembly.

Sports / Marseille To Make Mikel Highest-paid Player by Jahelastic(m): 7:02am On Dec 19, 2016
Struggling French Ligue 1 side Marseille may have succeeded in convincing out-of-favour Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi to shun big-money move to the Chinese Super League to help revive the club.

Former Los Angeles Dodgers owner Frank McCourt, who bought Marseille in October, had promised to invest heavily in the January transfer window to help manager Rudi Garcia build a team that could be European champions.

Les Phoceens were ready to rescue Mikel from his Chelsea nightmare in the summer but the player’s reported £3.4m-a-year salary reportedly aborted the move.

With McCourt ready to spend in January – and Mikel yet to play a single game for Chelsea since the beginning of the season – reports in France on Sunday claimed Marseille were ready to sign the 29-year-old.

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr also confirmed Mikel, whose contract at Stamford Bridge expires at the end of the season, was in talks with Marseille.

“I saw him in London. He is in advanced discussions with OM. Marseille is a serious option for him,” the German told Europe 1.

Chinese moneybags Shanghai SIPG reportedly offered Mikel £170,000 per week to move to Asia but Europe 1 believes the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner will move to Stade Velodrome next month as he will be a key player at the project at Marseille.

Garcia has said he will only sign top players in January and believes Mikel will bring a wealth of experience playing at the top level to help the side.

Former Swansea forward Bafetimbi Gomis is currently Les Phoceens’ highest-paid player at €420,000 per month, according to L’Equipe.

But reports say Marseille are ready to significantly improve on Mikel’s reported €350,000-a-month salary at Chelsea to lure him to France.

Chelsea’s Italian manager Antonio Conte has stuck with the team who chalked up their 11th match winning streak in the Premier League following their 1-0 defeat of Crystal Palace Selhurst Park on Saturday.

Mikel, who represented Nigeria at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, has won the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, Champions League and Europa League since he joined Chelsea from Norwegian club Lyn Oslo in 2006.

Nairaland / General / Before You Mock Anybody For Investing In MMM, Think About This by Jahelastic(m): 6:45am On Dec 19, 2016
I invested all my Savings from NYSC in Savanah Bank, The Bank Packed up and left me with Nothing. I bought 10,000 shares in Transcorp when Obasanjo and "Madam Stock Exchange" initially sold the fraud to Nigerians but up till today, no shares were allocated to me and my money was not refunded.

I remember my then employer deducting money from my wages and paying into government owned Housing Fund and also into the National Pension Fund, the 2 bodies were dissolved and my money dissolved with it. My Father and millions of Nigerians also paid into the same funds for more than 30 years and nothing came out of it.

Some state governments are owing their workers up to 1 year wages, the federal government and some parastatals are not different.

My father-in-law gave his life to NTA as a photojournalist travelling all over the country to cover events. Many years after his death, his widow is still waiting for NTA to pay his entitlements.

Remember how government came up with idea of community banks and encouraged Nigerians to patronise them, remember Allied Bank, Lobi Bank, Abacus Bank, City Express Bank, Assurance Bank of Nigeria, Hallmark Bank Plc, Ivory Merchant Bank, Lead Merchant Bank, Metropolitan Bank, All States Trust Bank, Coop and Commerce Bank, Commerce Bank, Credite Bank, Pinnacle Commercial Bank, Kapital Merchant Bank, Ivory Merchant Bank, Prime Merchant Bank, Republic Bank, Eagle Bank Plc, Liberty Bank, Progress Bank, North South Bank, Pan African Bank; remember pensioners who had their money in Societe Generale, dont forget the traders whose lives were destroyed by Gulf Bank, and many more too numerous to mention.

Should we blame these people for keeping their hard earned money in NDIC insured banks ? Dont ask me about NDIC please.

On a different scale, remember how many hours you spent at the polling booth to vote for Buhari, remember how we all campaigned vigorously to remove Jonathan and how many people you encouraged to vote for PMB. What has come out of it for us all?

How about the money you worked hard for and contributed when your Churches /Mosques wanted to establish those private universities and now your children are excluded from the qualitative education they offer because you can not afford the tuition fees?

What do you think about the money you pay to NEPA or whatever it is called now every month regardless of whether they supply you electricity or not ?

How are these different from MMM.
I agree that some people are into MMM because of greed but most of those who invested in MMM did so because they have been duped by some government backed schemes in the past.

There is poverty in the land and people are looking for ways to survive. They knew the risk they were getting into and were all willing to take the risk. Afterall, living in Nigeria at all at this moment is a risk and working for the government is also a risk slightly lower than investing in MMM.

The truth is every Nigerian living in Nigeria is into one form of MMM or the other and I do not see any sense in mocking anybody for taking a risk, as long as it is with their own money. Afterall, Nigeria itself is a Ponzi scheme. God bless Nigeria.

This was written by a Nigerian!

Nairaland / General / Mob Beat Couple To Death Over Witchcraft Allegations by Jahelastic(m): 2:11pm On Dec 17, 2016
LA mob beat to death an elderly couple accused of witchcraft in eastern India, police said Saturday, the second such killing in the region in two weeks.

Three people have been arrested over the lynching, police said, adding that the couple, both in their late sixties, had been suspected of using black magic to kill their neighbours in a remote tribal district of Jharkhand state.

After rumours spread that the couple had killed four people with witchcraft, the mob set upon them, beating them to death and burning down their house.

“The accused said they killed the couple in revenge to the death of their four relatives, who they believe were killed by the couple using witchcraft,” local police officer Amit Kumar Singh told AFP.

Last week, in another village in the improvised state, a 60-year-old woman was burnt to death by her neighbour on suspicion of having used black magic to kill a newborn baby.

Police arrested the neighbour on charges of murder.

Experts say belief in witchcraft and the occult remains widespread in many tribal and remote areas of India, where occasional incidents of human sacrifices have also been reported.

More than 2,000 people were killed in India on suspicion of witchcraft between 2000 and 2012, according to the most recent figures from the National Crime Records Bureau. Many of the victims were women.

Some states, including Orissa, have introduced special laws to try to curb crimes against people accused of witchcraft and superstition.

Nairaland / General / Nigeria Can Never Grow Or Develop! by Jahelastic(m): 8:46am On Dec 17, 2016
With the way the situation of Nigeria is going now, I have studied and see it can never grow nor develop. Is like the African complexture which is black is really affecting us and giving us set back. And I think that's the believe of white men world wide.

We so much complain about how wicked our leaders are which truly they are but forgetting that we the citizens are just same thing like them.

We the citizens complain every day about the way we are been ruled, but how do we by ourselves rule our family, companies, people working with us like our staff, maids, drivers, gardeners, cleaners and so on...........

In Nigeria, we see bad side of others forgetting Our own bad attitude & characters.

As a blogger, I sat myself down and look at how Nigerian medias are operating, am very disappointed in them. To me I think they are telling Nigerians and the whole world that they seems to have forgotten their roles and they have forgotten they need to be fear and balance.

Nigerians are so blind and wicked to the extent of always looking for down fall of a good thing or good people.

When something is in town, you don't need to castigate it just because you don't like it or you don't have interest in it.

Medias write most of their news based on what they were told without carrying out any investigation.

I have being reading different news through different websites, online news, blogs and so on concerning MMM. They have been publishing what is not happening and what they don't know.

MMM is a platform that when not on it, believe me or not, you can't know how it works or understand how it works, you'll only say it the way you are been told it informed.

All this while that MMM was still active & effective, all this hypocrites and bad people did not see the helps & assistant MMM rendered to people that Nigerian government can't do.

MMM have bring back to life some dead businesses in Nigeria, some dead companies back to life, those who are jobless where able to start something with the 30% they see.

What have Nigerian government done about jobless people, in which way have the rich people in the country help the poor people? Instead of helping and assisting the poor people, they turn them to slaves.

Look at how Nigeria is now, unless you wicked and bad people don't want to say the truth, ever since MMM have been well know in Nigeria, at least poverty rate reduce a bit if not much, rubbery rate reduced, baby kidnappers reduced especially this festive period, we all know what use to happened.

The Holy Bible have even said it that the heart of man is full of evil.

We don't wish ourselves well at all, all we run up and down for is the down fall of ourselves.

All the medias in Nigeria that are writing rubbish about MMM now as the participants account have been frozen for a very good reason, where were they when MMM participants are helping the community, giving goods to IDPs, people in the Hospital, motherless home and so on............

MMM does not have central account, participants send money to themselves.

Pentioniers (old people, I mean people's parent) are out there crying for their money after so many years government have used them. No media is talking about it. All this Pentioniers are doing rally from time to time, and some of them are dying in the process, government spending our money lavishly enjoying themselves, building hotels for themselves, buying expensive and flashy cars for themselves with our money and Nigerian are going hungry day by day, medias are afraid of saying the truth just because they've sold themselves out to the politicians.

Nigeria at 56years, our eyes are still blind to development. We keep doing evil to ourselves everyday and the evil we do, go after us.

I pray we become wise on time before its too late for us!
