Nairaland / General / I Didn’t Steal Majek Fashek’s Song – Timi Dakolo by Jahelastic(m): 5:28pm On Jul 02, 2016 |
Music star Timi Dakolo has denied the claim that he stole veteran artist Majek Fashek’s song. Majek Fashek had told Saturday Beats recently that Dakolo stole his evergreen hit, Send Down the Rain. “He broke the rules of copyright. He is a thief because in music business, he must take permission before he works on someone’s song,” Fashek had said. “That is why we have COSON. I did not give anyone the right to do anything with my song.” But Dakolo, who had done a remix of the song in 2013, said he got permission for that. “My people, it saddens me to see such. I always try to do things rightly and lawfully,” Dakolo, who is also a judge on The Voice Nigeria, said in an Instagram post. “I paid his manager to remake the song, I got my invoice, I even mentioned to him during our rehearsals at the Headies. So, honestly I don’t understand this write-up. “Oga Majek Fashek. I respect and love you. Your voice gives life to lyrics. You are one of the best musicians I know. God bless you.” https://jahelastic..com.ng/2016/07/i-didnt-steal-majek-fasheks-song-timi.html?m=0

Nairaland / General / Sea Pirates Kill Three Agip Workers In Bayelsa by Jahelastic(m): 11:09pm On Jul 01, 2016 |
Hoodlums, suspected to be sea pirates, have killed three workers of an international oil company, Nigerian Agip Oil Company, in Bayelsa State. It was learnt that the incident occurred on Wednesday at a work station in the creeks of Nembe around Obama flow station operated by Eni Oil, a parent company of Agip. A security source, who craved anonymity, said the victims were two engineers and a driver. The source said the three workers were ambushed and killed along the creeks while carrying out repair work on Agip pipelines that were destroyed some weeks ago. He said, “The sea pirates, who operate in the area, carried out an ambush on the oil workers. The area is a notorious place where gunmen operate freely.” When contacted, the Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Bayelsa State Command, Mr. Desmond Agu, confirmed the attack, saying it took place on June 29. He said already, the search team of security operatives had recovered two dead bodies and their corpses had been taken to Port Harcourt, Rivers State, by ambulance. Agu said, “The search team, made up of civil defence, Navy, Army, gunboat crew and others left Obama station at 0915 hours on Thursday in search of the bodies of killed Agip personnel. “At about 1100 hours, the dead bodies of two killed personnel were discovered in Oguama River close to Oguama community in Bayelsa. They were taken to Ogbia jetty for onward movement to Port Harcourt.” https://jahelastic..com.ng/2016/07/sea-pirates-kill-three-agip-workers-in.html?m=0

Nairaland / General / We Can’t Guarantee Quality Teaching – Kogi Teachers by Jahelastic(m): 6:04pm On Jun 28, 2016 |
Teachers in public primary and junior secondary schools in Kogi State said on Tuesday that they could no longer guarantee quality teaching in the state. The teachers, under the aegis of the Basic Education Staff Association of Nigeria, told newsmen in Lokoja that the poor welfare condition of members had made quality teaching impossible for now. The Chairman of the state chapter of BESAN, Mr Ohino Baiye, explained that government had refused to pay members the minimum wage of N18,000 which other workers in the state had been enjoying since 2011. He also rejected the ongoing 60 per cent payment of teachers salary from the bailout, saying they must be treated equally with other workers by being paid 100 per cent. “Even the 60 per cent payment made did not go round,” Baiye said. The chairman also opposed the sudden increase in PAYE deductions from the payment of the outstanding March, April and May salaries of teachers, saying that this must be reversed immediately. He further appealed to the government to ensure the payment of leave allowance as well as effect promotion and annual incremental steps which had been outstanding in the last six years. https://jahelastic..com.ng/2016/06/we-cant-guarantee-quality-teaching-kogi.html?m=0

Nairaland / General / I’m Fine With Being Single – Banky W by Jahelastic(m): 3:39pm On Jun 28, 2016 |
Nigerian R&B musician, Bankole Wellington, a.k.a Banky W, says he is not in a hurry to get married as people who are on his neck on the issue are such that do not give much attention to marriage but the ceremonies. He added that his dream wife must not necessarily know how to cook. In a chat with Urban96FM, the bachelor said, “I am fine with being single and not in a hurry to walk the aisle. ‘I think people don’t give much attention to marriage but the ceremonies and I am not going to let that push me until I am ready. “My kind of woman is someone that is beautiful, she has to be beautiful because that is what will first attract me to her and she must be God fearing, she must have a sense of humor and be independent. “She must love music, she mustn’t necessarily know how to cook because I enjoy cooking myself, she should be ambitious and have a career and have her money, no one wants a lazy woman.” Speaking further, he addressed the Tee Billz and Tiwa Savage marital crisis and why he made no comments when it happened. He said, “I didn’t react all the while because it is a private affair. “I think that one of my problems with the world today is that we comment too much. I am a strong believer in not letting the world know about your dirty laundry. “So I am still not going to comment on the issue but I love both of them dearly and as a true friend. “I am trying my best to be a friend to them and to encourage them in the best way possible,” the ‘Jasi’ crooner added. https://jahelastic..com.ng/2016/06/im-fine-with-being-single-banky-w.html?m=0

Nairaland / General / UK Jails Nigerian Pastor Nine Years by Jahelastic(m): 10:16pm On Jun 27, 2016 |
A Nigerian accountant and part-time pastor in the United Kingdom, Samuel Kayode, has been sentenced to nine years in prison for stealing £4.1million. Kayode was sentenced on Friday by Woolwich Crown Court in South London for defrauding Haberdashers’ Aske’s state schools in the UK. The part-time pastor, who earned £57, 000 per annum, was convicted after being found guilty of £150,000 theft and £3.95million fraud. Out of the £4.1million, only £800, 000 was recovered from him. Described as “dishonest” and “greedy”, the court heard how Kayode lavished the stolen money on four women, his wife, Grace; a second ‘wife’ in Nigeria, Olubunmi Halima; and two other women in the UK. British prosecutor, James Thacker, said he also bought luxury cars including a Mercedes, an Audi TT sports car and an Infiniti car with the money. The court also heard how for seven years the convict looted the accounts of Haberdashers. He was said to be secretive, locking himself in his office to work late, “after arriving in a Mercedes, wearing £500 Gucci shoes and carrying a Louis Vuitton briefcase.” Thacker said the father of four from Ilford, East London, was too arrogant to admit his guilt even after he was caught red-handed in 2012. Kayode tried to blame the crime on his late wife and a junior colleague, saying that they conspired to tarnish his image by transferring the money to his account in revenge for his adultery. His crime was exposed when a school cleaner stumbled across some of Kayode’s documents. The cleaner was said to make an anonymous call to the schools’ Chief Finance Officer, Yvonne Smithers. The accounts manager started work at Haberdashers’ – which has links with the public schools of the same name – in 1997. According to the prosecutor, Kayode started using the BACS money transfer system (a system in the UK for making payments directly from one bank account to another) in 2006, to put “tens of thousands at a time directly into a joint account held with wife Grace. He then spent up to £98,000 a month.” Apart from spending money on his wife’s health care until her death in 2013, Kayode also signed documents showing he was making investments with Halima, and renting flats in Kent for ‘partners’ Toyin Lawal and Yetunde Turtak. https://jahelastic..com.ng/2016/06/uk-jails-nigerian-pastor-nine-years.html?m=0

Nairaland / General / How To Properly Charge A Phone's Battery by Jahelastic(m): 7:40am On Jun 26, 2016 |
Hello everyone. I've been searching through internet about that topic and I decided to share with you what I just found in a certain website: How to properly charge a phone’s battery: stop charging from zero to 100% and other tips Extend your battery's lifespan with these top tips, including how often you should charge your phone's battery. Batteries are one of tech’s most boring subjects … until your phone, tablet or laptop dies, that is. While most of us live in fear of a fading phone battery when we’re out and about, we don’t worry too much about that battery’s eventual lifespan, but there are ways to keep your battery in tip-top shape for a long and fruitful life. (probably between three and five years). Just how should you charge your iPhone or Android? Batteries do not enjoy eternal life. Most smartphone manufacturers say their devices rate their batteries at 300-500 cycles. Apple claims that its laptop batteries reach 80 percent of their original capacity after 1,000 charges. After this point batteries aren’t able to hold as much electricity and will power your device for increasingly shorter periods of time. So here’s some tips to extend your battery’s lifespan, be that in an iPhone, Android phone, Windows phone, tablet, or laptop. The big questions about how to re-charge a battery is whether you should let it run to zero before re-charging to 100%. One reason why people are unsure is something they’ve heard of called the battery “memory effect” What is battery memory effect? Battery memory effect is about batteries remembering remaining charge if you didn’t let them go all the way to zero too often. So a battery frequently charged from 20% to 80% might ‘forget’ about the 40% that’s left uncharged (0-20% and 80-100%). Sounds crazy but that’s sort of true – but only for older nickel-based (NiMH and NiCd) batteries, not the lithium-ion batteries in your phone. Lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries don’t suffer the memory effect so you almost need to do the opposite – charge them often but not all the way throughout the day, and don’t let them drop to zero. Don’t charge battery from zero to 100% The rule with Li-ion batteries is to keep them 50% or more most of the time. When it drops below 50% top it up a little if you can. A little a few times a day seems to be the optimum to aim for. But don’t charge it all the way to 100%. It won’t be fatal to your battery if you do a full recharge – most of us are forced to do this every now and again in emergencies. But constantly doing a full recharge will shorten the battery’s lifespan. So a good range to aim for when charging a Li-ion battery is from about 40% to 80% in one go. Try not to let the battery drop below 20%. When I should do a full battery charge Experts recommend that you do a full zero to 100% battery recharge (a "charge cycle" maybe once a month only. This recalibrates the battery – a bit like restarting your computer, or, for humans, going on holiday! The same goes for laptops, by the way. Should I charge my phone overnight? Most modern smartphones are clever enough to stop charging when full, so there isn'y a great risk in leaving your phone charging overnight. But some experts recommend you remove the phone from a case if charging for a long time, as a case could lead to over heating Should I use fast battery charging? Many Android phones have a feature that allows for fast charging. Samsung even calls its technology “ultra fast charging”. Motorola boasts about its Droid Turbo that promises an 8 hour charge in just 15 minutes! HTC’s Rapid Charger 2.0 charges devices such as the One M8, One E8 and Desire Eye 40 percent faster. These phones have special code usually located in a chip known as the Power Management IC (PMIC) that communicates with the charger you are using and requests that it send power at a higher voltage. Apple’s iPhone 6 doesn’t feature fast charging but its Qualcomm PMIC is smart enough to recognise when you use a higher-amp charger (like the one you get with the iPad), and that’s a good thing because fast charging will heat up that Li-ion battery and cause it increased wear and tear. For the same reason, don’t leave your phone in a hot car, on the beach or next to the oven. A hot battery will suffer long-term effects on its lifespan. And so will a super-cold one, so don’t leave your device in the freezer or out in the snow! So, if you can, switch off fast charging on your Android phone. Can I use any charger? Where possible use the charger that came with your phone, as it is sure to have the correct rating. Or make sure that a third-party charger is approved by your phone's manufacturer. Cheap alternatives from Amazon or eBay may harm your phone, and there have been several reported cases of cheap chargers actually catching on fire! Storing battery tips Don’t leave a Li-ion battery li-ing around too long at 0%. Try to leave it at around 40-50%. These batteries drain at about 5-10% a month when not in use. If you let the battery discharge completely and leave it uncharged for a long period of time it may eventually become incapable of holding a charge at all (that’s properly dead). It’s unlikely you’ll leave your smartphone lying in a drawer for very long, but some people do leave their laptop, battery packs or spare batteries unused for long periods of time. So try to keep them all at least half charged. https://jahelastic..com.ng/2016/06/how-to-properly-charge-phones-battery.html?m=0 1 Like

Nairaland / General / ‘pay-as-you-go Solar Energy, Solution To Epileptic Power Supply’ by Jahelastic(m): 5:10am On Jun 25, 2016 |
Pay-as-you-go solar energy has emerged as the solution to the hydra-headed energy problems bedevilling the country’s power supply system. This revelation was made in Lagos this week by Kunle Odebunmi, co-founder of Arnergy Solar Ltd, at a media parley while unveiling the solar energy apps developed by the company. The apps, according to him, are a revolutionary technology that allows subscribers to buy recharge pin usingRANA (Arnergy’s Mobile Electricity App) or via agents in several rural communities yet to connect with mobile network. The apps synchronize with Arnergy’s cloud-based server infrastructure to unlock the Solar Power System and supply solar electricity whenever the pin is keyed into the solar kit, and subscribers enjoy electricity 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Highlighting the advantages of the apps, Mr. Odebunmi added that they are easy to install with minimal technical know-how. https://jahelastic..com.ng/2016/06/pay-as-you-go-solar-energy-solution-to.html?m=0

Nairaland / General / Eagles In Group Of Death by Jahelastic(m): 5:04am On Jun 25, 2016 |
The Super Eagles will play Zambia’s Chipolopolo, Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions and Algeria’s Fennecs in the final round of qualification series for the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals. In what is already dubbed the group of death by pundits, the three-time African champions, who will not play in next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon, face a tough route to qualify for Russia 2018 given the high quality of their opponents in the group. The draw conducted at the Cairo Marriott Hotel put all former African champions in the same Group B, with reigning continental champions Cote d’Ivoire to tackle Gabon, Mali and Morocco in Group C. Tunisia’s Carthage Eagles head Group A that also includes Libya, Democratic Republic of Congo and Guinea, and Ghana’s Black Stars will do battle with the Pharaohs of Egypt, Congo’s Red Devils and Uganda’s Cranes in Group E. Senegal’s Teranga Lions, which reached the World Cup quarter –finals in its debut in 2002, head Group D that also includes South Africa’s Bafana Bafana, Burkina Faso’s Etalons and Cape Verde’s Blue Sharks. “It is a tough draw, but then I have always said that you have to beat the best to get to the World Cup. Now we have the draw, we know how to prepare. The preparation has to start right now and we must make good use of every single day leading to the kick –off of the series. “The other pools are tough as well, because for me, you can never afford to under –rate any team these days. Now we must quickly sort out the issue of Head Coach and his assistants and put every other thing in place in good time,” NFF president Amaju Pinnick said. Algeria knocked Nigeria out of the race to the 1982 FIFA World Cup, but Nigeria also overpowered Algeria to qualify for the 1994 finals in USA. Nigeria beat Algeria 3-0 to lift her first –ever Africa Cup of Nations title, on home soil in 1980, but the Fennecs avenged by beating the Eagles 1-0 to also nick their first African title, on home soil, ten years later. Cameroon stopped Nigeria from reaching the 1990 FIFA World Cup finals, winning 1-0 in Yaounde in a group contest even though Nigeria won the home leg 2-0 in Ibadan. In Yaounde, only weeks after the death of Samuel Okwaraji, Nigeria needed a draw to shove aside the Lions but lost 1-0. In a friendly in Belgium in October last year, the Super Eagles steamrolled the Lions 3-0. https://jahelastic..com.ng/2016/06/eagles-in-group-of-death.html?m=0

Nairaland / General / A $499 Phone For People Who Hate Phones by Jahelastic(m): 9:22pm On Jun 22, 2016 |
If you need a break from the constant stress of technology, you can toss your smartphone in a drawer, head to California's peaceful Mendocino coast, and admire the majestic madrone trees while picking up the occasional bits of plastic litter that wash up on the sand. Or you can pay up to $499 for a peculiar disk that acts like a parred down smartphone, available in reclaimed ocean plastic or sustainable madrone wood. The Runcible is an experimental new take on the phone from Berkeley, California, company Monohm. The palm-sized device is designed to look more like a pocketwatch than a phone. One side is flat with a circular 2.6-inch screen, the other curved with a small opening for a camera. Its main non-feature is that it is silent. The Runcible will not interrupt your deep thoughts with beeps, pings or alerts. The company calls it the anti-smartphone. The assumption is that we only look at our phones when triggered, and a passive device will return our attention to the real world. (Though the lack of alerts could lead to constant nervous checking for messages.) First previewed at the Mobile World Congress in 2015, the Runcible is now taking pre-orders on its Indiegogo page. It costs $499 for the wood version or $399 for the plastic. This is no ordinary recycled plastic. The company says it was taken directly from the Great Pacific garbage patch. The final models should ship later this year. The hardware and software are open source, so people can "co-create" their own phones by modifying it. It comes with WiFi, Bluetooth, a 7-megapixel camera, and 8 GB of storage. While it will have LTE capabilities for phone calls, the company doesn't have any relationships with carriers. It's still unclear how, or if, the device will have a cellular connection when it launches. The Runcible will run an OS designed by Monohm called BuniOS. It will include twee apps like maps that take you on the more interesting route rather than the fastest. It could be a tempting alternative for anyone worn down by the constant connections to work, friends, and strangers with strong opinions on the Internet. Simply unplugging or tossing a phone into a fire isn't always practical. There has been some buzz about switching back to less-complicated features or "dumb" phones that only have basic functions. The Runcible takes that trend and makes it more customizable, more attractive, and more expensive. http://jahelastic..com.ng/2016/06/a-499-phone-for-people-who-hate-phones.html?m=0

Elastic Blog clock One (1) today. Well when it comes to celebration like this, most people always says "like play, like play" but I will not say so cause I really have passions for it and I walked towards it and with God with me and the the full support of my boss when it comes to blogging, he's one of my wonderful friend, school and course mate but my senior; the person of Olorunyomi Tunde founder and owner of "www.duketundesblog.com". He thought me and put me through on how to register my blog on so many platform that I have to for it to be known, recognise and be available for the reading of people all over the world after I have signed up. This blog "Jahelastic Blog" started full blogging and operation Thursday June 18th, 2015. I happened to be someone who like posting of News and information, Updating the world on what's going on here and there. I first started by taking pictures of strange and happening things I see on my way out, my way back home or at anywhere I am and post it on all social medias I have sign up to. I enjoy seeing people go through it, liked it and even comment on it. People noticed this and started advising and encouraging me in so many ways like; - Oh we enjoyed your post - Are you sure this is real - Where did you see this - What exactly do you do? - Are you a reporter, News Caster, Information Officer and some many like that. The most encouragement came from my brother "Prince Ademowore Adelana Babatunde" (Naval Officer) a.k.a Neckshave who said something one day when we were talking and gisting. That, "I noticed you like posting information and happening things online. As a System Engineer, Network Admin, Website Design and Analysis, Access Data Base Designer and have little idea of Programming. Why not have your own website were you can be posting your happening and information things for people's enjoyment." I was so moved and very happy with the advice and moral support he gave me. Then I went online to search for a simple site to start from when I came about blogging. I first registered with one site like that which I didn't find easy to use and wasn't encouraged with it. I continued with my online research for another site when I came across "Duke Tunde's Blog". I checked it out and I see it's Google platform. I clicked on a link on his blog and I was directed to "www.blogger.com" where I now register mine. All this researches and registration was done on phone and ever since then till this time, all my blogging, arraignment, blog info update, designing of my blog official logo is being done on phone. Not long after I registered to become a blogger, my friend and my boss came across it, contacted me and said "I can see you want to become a blogger" I said yes cause I like and love giving people information. He now said, "with the little knowledge and experience in blogging that I have gotten, i will help, assist and support you" which he has really being doing till this moment. He always monitor every post I do, and is either he call, SMS, mail and contact me in so many ways (my social medias) to correct me on my errors and mistakes. He do tell me on how to correct so many things and do some arrangements on my blog which I always listen to him cause he knows more than I do and he as been on it before me. He also thought me how to gather News, Information and Trending gist. He told me about some popular bloggers to follow that by viewing their blogs, I'll get more understanding on how to be a good and better blogger. https://jahelastic..co.uk/2016/06/hip-hip-hip-hurray_18.html?m=0

Nairaland / General / 15 Things You May Not Know About Shaibu Amodu by Jahelastic(m): 2:27pm On Jun 11, 2016 |
The death of NFF Technical Director and former Super Eagles coach, Shaibu Amodu, has rocked the football world and thrown Nigerians into mourning, days after the shocking death of football legend Stephen Keshi. As football lovers and Nigerians in general mourn the demise of Amodu, one of the country’s most successful coaches, we look at 15 things you probably may not have known about him: 1. He has coached the Super Eagles more times than any other coach, having led the national team five times. His first appointment was Super Eagles Coach in 2001 and guided the team to secure qualification for the 2002 World Cup only to be sacked months to the tournament. 2. As Super Eagles coach, he led the national team to secure World Cup qualification twice but was fired before the tournament on both occasions. After being denied the opportunity to lead the team to the 2002 World Cup in South Korea and Japan, Amodu suffered the same fate in 2010 ahead of the World Cup in South Africa. 3. He helped break the jinx of northern football clubs’ inability to win the FA Cup in 1989 when he led the BCC Lions (of Gboko) to win the trophy. 4. Shaibu Amodu was born in April 1958. 5. He started his football career as a striker and played for Dumez and Niger Tornadoes. 6. His playing career ended after he broke his leg. 7. Apart from BBC Lions and the Super Eagles, Amodu managed such as BCC Lions, El-Kanemi Warriors, and Shooting Stars. 8. His coaching career extended beyond Nigeria as he also managed Orlando Pirates in South Africa. 9. He was first appointed as the Super Eagles coach in April 2001. 10. He was re-appointed manager a second time in April 2008. 11. Amodu was fired twice by the NFF in February of a World Cup year. His first appointment in 2001 was terminated in February 2002 he helped the team qualify for the World Cup. His second appointment was also terminated in February 2010 again after he helped the team qualify for the World Cup. 12. In May 2013, he was appointed technical director of Nigeria’s national teams. 13. He was re-appointed Nigeria manager in October 2014, replacing Stephen Keshi. 14. It was his fifth spell in charge of the country’s national team after which the Keshi returned to the role two weeks later. Amodu took over temporarily as the manager of the Eagles again after the late Keshi was fired in July 2015. He was replace by Sunday Oliseh on a permanent basis later that month. 15. His death comes three days after that of Keshi and he would be buried today according to Islamic rites. https://jahelastic..co.uk/2016/06/15-things-you-may-not-know-about-shaibu.html?m=0

The Police Service Commission says it has shortlisted 338,227 applicants out of the 911,438 that applied for recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force. The Chairman of the Commission, Mr. Mike Okiro, who disclosed this at a news conference in Abuja, said screening of successful applicants would begin on June 6 in the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory. Okiro explained that 44,661 were shortlisted for cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police, 87,736 for cadet Inspector and 205,830 for Police Constables. He said “I would like to emphasise that the initial shortlisting of applicants was done electronically. “Invitation letters were also sent to successful applicants through SMS and to their personal email addresses.” Okiro, however, warned applicants against fake letters from criminal elements, stressing that “the invitation, states the date and venue for each person’s screening. “Applicants will be grouped according to their local government areas and a date fixed for their screening.” The chairman said the steps taken were aimed at avoiding overcrowding at the venue and ensuring a meticulous exercise. He warned that no applicant would be admitted into any venue or appear on any date other than those allocated to him or her. Okiro added that after the screening, successful candidates would be invited to a zonal screening to be held in the 12 police zonal headquarters in the country. He said the national interview would be held in Abuja for those who were successful at the zonal screening. He noted that the Commission had been transparent since the filling and submission of forms started, saying “I want to re-emphasis that the Commission will be guided by the rules and will be fair, transparent and ensure that the process is merit-driven. “As a commission, we have collectively and individually swore to make this project a huge success. “The Nigeria Police needs the best, especially now that the nation is engaged in several battles.” The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of training, Mr. Femi Adenaike, said all training schools and colleges were rehabilitated. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that 262,426 applicants applied for cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police, 211,832 applied for Cadet Inspector and 437,144 for Police Constables. Nairaland / General / FG Scraps Post-utme, Pegs Cut-off Mark At 180 by Jahelastic(m): 6:51pm On Jun 02, 2016 |
The Federal Government has scrapped post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations, UTME, as a pre-condition to gaining admission into universities in the country. The government and stakeholders in education sector also pegged 180 as benchmark for 2016 admission into universities, polytechnics and colleges of education to improve quality of education in Nigeria. These decisions were reached at the 2016 Combined Policy Meeting on Admissions to Universities, Polytechnics and other higher institutions in Nigeria. The Minister of Education , Malam Adamu Adamu, while declaring open the meeting, said since the federal government and stakeholders had confidence in the examinations conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriulation Board, JAMB, there was no need for other examinations to be conducted by universities after JAMB exams. He said: “As far as I am concerned, the nation has confidence in what JAMB is doing, the universities should not be holding another examinations and if the universities have any complain against JAMB, let them bring it and then we address it. ”But if JAMB is qualified enough to conduct tests and they have conducted test, then there will be no need to conduct another test for students to gain admission. https://jahelastic..com.ng/2016/06/fg-scraps-post-utme-pegs-cut-off-mark.html?m=0 |
Food / Scientists Detect Pest Disease On Maize by Jahelastic(m): 6:17pm On Jun 01, 2016 |
A Soil Scientists, Prof. Lateef Taiwo and his team at the Institute of Agricultural Research and Training, Ibadan, have detected Armyworms devastating maize farms around South-West ecology. Taiwo made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Ibadan on Wednesday. He said the Armyworm was part of the order of Lepidoptera, the larval life stage of a fall Armyworm moth, adding that it can wreak havoc to crops if left to multiply. “Its name is derived from its feeding habits, they strongly prefer grasses, cereals like maize, it can mercilessly eat the stem of the crop as well as the leaves,” he said. The scientist advised farmers to maintain farm hygiene and use improved varieties of vegetables resistant to the diseases. “Some of the improved seeds of vegetables can be obtained from National Horticultural Research Institute, while improved varieties of maize can be obtained from, Ibadan, as both have mandate on the crops. “Farmers can also use control measures like chemical, biological control, use of botanicals that is the use of plant extracts; chemical control is not environment friendly though effective. https://jahelastic..com.ng/2016/06/scientists-detect-pest-disease-on-maize.html?m=0

Nairaland / General / A Shocking Incident In Which A Man Was Forced According To Tradition To Have S*x by Jahelastic(m): 2:23pm On Jun 01, 2016 |
A shocking family tradition captured on camera showing how a husband and wife had their first s*x while members of their family watch on has sent social media on meltdown. The odd incident took place in Woodlands New Town. A photo was posted by a member of the family earlier this week depicting an unexpected scene: a male and a female lie in bed, in the middle of intercourse, while members of their family watch on. The intimate moment was captured by the man’s uncle, who revealed it was a family tradition that has been passed down through generations. “While most people may consider it odd, for our family there is nothing more proud than celebrating a son, brother or nephew having s*x for the first time,” wrote the uncle, in a post accompanying the explicit photo. “We see it as the last step on the long journey to adulthood, and it’s also a special chance to witness the moment that a new life is formed.” The uncle explained that he’d also had his family present to witness his first intercourse. “I felt less nervous having my family there to accompany me, and also give me guidance on how to proceed. At first I had trouble entering my girlfriend, but my mother suggested I take things more slowly and relax, and I was able to eventually slip it in.” The photograph also captures the man’s mother and sister, who were sitting on the edge of the bed to provide tips and encouragement. “I snapped the photo right at the moment before he came, and it was truly a beautiful scene.” According to East Asia Tribune, feedback on social media has been divided over the family’s unusual tradition, with some Singaporean netizens labelling it as unnatural and obscene. “It’s quite disgusting that such a private act must be witnessed by the man’s who family,” wrote one commenter. “Sex is something that should be behind closed doors, without your parents and siblings observing.” Meanwhile, some users did have more positive thoughts on the practice. “I think it’s actually quite charming that the family supports their children so much during a pivotal moment in their development. It can’t hurt to have some extra advice when things are hard.” https://jahelastic..com.ng/2016/06/a-shockin-incident-in-which-man-was.html?m=0

Politics / Buhari Not Sound In Economy, Foreign Affairs — Obasanjo by Jahelastic(m): 11:18pm On May 14, 2016 |
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo says President Muhammadu Buhari may not do well in economy and foreign affairs, except in military matters. “Buhari is not a very hot person on the economy and foreign affairs,” Obasanjo said. The former President stated this on Monday at the third International Conference on African Development Issues — themed, “Driving inclusive and sustainable development in Africa: Models, methods and policies” — organised by Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State. While reacting to a question posed to him by a member of the audience: “Is there any hope for Nigeria under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari?”, Obasanjo replied, “Is there any hope for Nigeria under this administration? I came back from Geneva, Switzerland a few days ago to attend a conference titled, ‘Are elections giving democracy a bad name?’ We had an election, we elected a leader and the good thing about democracy is that the power you have to elect a leader is also the power you have to remove him. I am saying this because I said earlier that if you don’t see any leader that has done well in the 56 years of Nigeria’s independence, then let us forget about Nigeria. “I will tell you what I know and I will tell you what I don’t know. I know Gen. Muhammadu Buhari. He served under me in the military. His characteristics that I know, his behaviour that I know, he has not deviated from them. He was never a perfect man, he is not a perfect man and no leader can ever be a perfect man because they are human beings. But if you read my book, what I said about him is correct. He is not a hot person when it comes to economy. He is not a very hot person when it comes to foreign affairs. But he will do well in matters of military and he will do well in fighting Boko Haram.” The former president also said he tried his best in fighting corruption, especially in the recovery of funds looted by the late Gen. Sani Abacha and that as of the time he left the government, about $1bn was still to be recovered. Obasanjo said, “For me, we have no hope if we have no future. I am an optimist as far as Nigeria is concerned. If somebody doesn’t get it all right for now, we will get somebody who will come up and fix whatever is missing. The administration before this had no clue on how to deal with Boko Haram, there is no doubt about that. “You may not like the way he (Buhari) is fighting corruption. I fought corruption. We recovered over $1.25bn from Abacha and his men. We didn’t make noise. Also, we recovered £100m and about N30m and those who were helping us, the lawyers and the rest said there was still at least $1bn to be recovered at that time. I put it in my handover notes. But rather than encourage scrupulous persons, we had another spate of corruption.” Obasanjo added that fighting corruption would not be effective if it did not translate to better life for the citizens. He said, “Fighting corruption is not a one-day or a one-regime affair. If where we left it, they continued, we would have gone far. For me, the questions are: Is corruption being fought? And if it is being fought, is it being effectively fought? Are we getting the desired results? And if we are getting the desired results, what impact is it having on our society and on our nation?” Other speakers at the event included Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Prof. Joy Ogwu, and the Associate Vice-President, Research, McMaster University, Canada, Prof. Bonny Ibhawoh. They both said if Africa was to experience any development, leaders must match their words or policies with action. http://jahelastic..co.uk/2016/05/buhari-not-sound-in-economy-foreign.html?m=0

Nairaland / General / Nigeria Is World Leader In Anti-terrorism Fight — U.S by Jahelastic(m): 3:27pm On May 14, 2016 |
Mr Antony Blinken, the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, on Friday described Nigeria as the leader of other countries in the fight against terrorism. Blinken, who hailed Nigeria’s anti-terrorism stance, spoke to State House Correspondents after a visit to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo in Abuja on Friday. The U.S. Deputy Secretary of State is in Nigeria ahead of Saturday’s Security Summit to be hosted by President Muhammadu Buhari. “Now here we have this very important security summit that Nigeria is hosting, with countries around the world attending. “This is an evidence of the strength of the Nigerian leadership, with the effort that the President and the Vice President are making to strengthen the economy, fight corruption and deal with the security challenges”, he said. He further hailed the relationship between Nigeria and the U.S. since Buhari’s inauguration as Nigeria’s President. “I was here just a little less than a year ago in preparation for President Buhari’s visit to Washington and since then we have seen the relationship between Nigeria and the U.S. grow deeper and stronger”, he stated. Blinken expressed belief that all Boko Haram’s captives, especially the Chibok girls, would regain freedom. “We have been focused on this from day one, doing whatever we can to provide all the assistance and information that we can develop’’, he said of the Chibok girls. According to him, this is something that has personally touched so many people in the U.S., including President Barack Obama and his family. “It is something that we are focused on every single day. Of course there are others besides the girls who have been taken hostage by Boko Haram. “Our thoughts are with them as well and we are determined as the Nigerian government, not to rest until we get them home”, he added. http://jahelastic..sg/2016/05/nigeria-is-world-leader-in-anti.html?m=0 |
