The Nigerian Air Force Commander in Kano, Air Commodore Mohammed Aminu Isah has commended the Commission for its role in fighting terrorism in Nigeria.

He made the commendation during a courtesy visit to the Kano Zonal Office of EFCC on February 17th, 2021.

“We are all working towards ensuring the security of this country, the EFCC is ensuring that crime in terms if financial racketeering is reduced to the barest minimum because it is when we have a stable economy that we will have progress.

Your work is very vital to curtail the spread of kidnappings and banditry. I commend you for your efforts”. He said.

He called on Nigerians to avoid short cuts to wealth and assured the Commission of the NAF readiness to come to its aid when dealing with hostile suspects.

“In the course of your duty, some people who have stolen public funds will be aggrieved when you come for them.
They feel you have come to take their ill-gotten wealth.
In such circumstances, you may need to apply a bit of physical strength and the NAF is just a phone call away”.

Isah also applauded President Muhammadu Buhari and congratulated the Commission for the recent appointment of Abdulrasheed Bawa, as Chairman.

He expresses admiration for the new Chairman and wished him well in his new assignment.

In his response, the Zonal Head, Sanusi Aliyu Mohammed, assured the Nigerian Air Force that the EFCC has both internal and external mechanisms which guide its operation and conduct of its staff.

“Internally, we have Directorate of Internal Affairs.

They monitor us, they watch us as we work and they also receive complains from members of the public where there is any unprofessional conduct by our staff”, he said.

The Uyo Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on Thursday, February 18, 2021 arraigned one Andrew Eigbokhaebholo, a staff of the University of Calabar, before Justice S. M Shuaibu of the Federal High Court sitting in Calabar, Cross River State.

He was arraigned alongside his company, Panandy Oil and Gas Nigeria Limited on one count charge bordering on obtaining by false pretence to the tune of N11,470,000.00 (eleven million, four hundred and seventy thousand naira) only.

The defendant who claims to be a travel agent, allegedly obtained the sum from a complainant on the pretext of helping to secure a United States of America Visa, accommodation and other logistics for his wife, who had planned to travel to the US to have her baby.

The petitioner swayed by the knowledge that the defendant’s children were US citizens, borrowed the said sum and paid the defendant only to be denied visa at the US Embassy.

A student of Kwara State University, KWASU, Malete, Atoyebi Ayodeji Blessing, was on Friday February 12, 2021 arraigned on one count charge bordering on romance scam and related imternet fraud before Justice Mahmood Abdulgafar of the Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin.

He was arraigned by the Ilorin Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Atoyebi, 20, currently studying Agricultural and Biological Engineering in the University while masquerading as a white female (Sophia Bambi), allegedly opened a gmail account which he used in defrauding unsuspecting victims under the guise of being in love with them before the law caught up with him.

The offence contravenes Section 6 and punishable under Section 8 and 1 (3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006.

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Seme command has said it arrested 15 suspects in connection with smuggled goods intercepted by officials of the command.

The intercepted items were said to be worth over N788million.

The items included 7,667 50kg bags of foreign parboiled rice, three 50kg bags of sugar, 1,080,875 litres of petrol, 127 units of smuggled vehicles, 1,514 cartons of frozen poultry products, 646 packets of hard drugs, 166 parcels of cannabis sativa and 31,868 general merchandise goods.

Spokesman Hussain Abdullahi said the suspects were arrested last year, some of whom released on administrative bail while others were being tried in the courts.

“The above landmark achievements can be attributed to the deliberate policies adopted by the Command, ably supported by the management of the Service under stewardship of Col. Hameed Ali rtd, appreciable coopration by sister security agencies and unwavering synergy with the host communities,” he said.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) yesterday also said that in less than one year, it intercepted at least 200 containers of fake and substandard pharmaceuticals that were intended to be cleared at the ports and borders.

It noted that this was the result of the revitalisation of the Clean Report of Inspection and Analysis (CRIA) scheme which was set up to establish the quality and safety of regulated products before they are shipped from China and India to Nigeria.

The scheme also prevented the export of over 40 pharmaceutical and food products that failed laboratory analysis into Nigeria.

Aisha Yesufu, popular activist has told the Nigerian government to meet the demands of End SARS protesters as that was the only way to end the protest.

Yesufu said this while condemning the arrest of Mr Macaroni and End SARS protests by the Nigeria police on Saturday at the Lekki toll gate.

Aisha Yesufu urged the government to end terrorising citizens, adding that making peaceful protest impossible will yield to violent protests.

Tragedy occurred, on Friday, in Atoyo area of Ogun State when a yet-to-be-identified truck driver was roasted to death during an accident involving the truck.

The incident occurred at about 10.45 am, outbound Ijebu-Ode, along Ijebu-Ode/Benin Expressway.

According to eyewitnesses’ account, the victim who was the only occupant of the Diesel-laden tanker was driving at top speed when it lost control and fell on its side spilling its content into the neighborhood.

Fire was said to have erupted before the rescue effort could commence.

An eye witness who pleaded anonymity said unfortunately for the victim, he was caught up in the inferno and was burnt to ashes, “the incident was caused by overspeeding on the part of the driver,” he said.

The incident affected the free flow of traffic in the axis before the rescue operation was completed by the state firefighters, Federal Road Safety Corps, the Nigeria Police, and Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE).

Confirming the incident, TRACE Public Relations Officer, Babatunde Akinbiyi said the incident had been incidented with the Divisional Police Station, Ogbere.

He warned the drivers of articulated vehicles especially tanker drivers to avoid reckless driving. Nigerian rapper, Folarin Falana ‘Falz’ has slammed the Nigerian government over the arrest of Mr Macaroni and other End SARS protesters at Lekki tollgate.

A recent report on condom access and utilization in Nigeria by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), in collaboration with the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) and other organizations, has shown that only 70 million Nigerians use condoms.

According to the report, this represents 34 percent of the Nigerian population, which is estimated to be 206 million, if latest figures by the United Nations is anything to go by.

It further revealed that there exists a gap of 564 million condoms needed annually in order to achieve 90 percent coverage across the country.

Furthermore, the report showed that the North Central, South-South, and South East used more condoms than any other region in the country, at 44, 42, 40 percent respectively. South West, North East and North West had 38, 26, and 22 percentages respectively in condom use. Also, more males had access to condoms than their female counterparts.

In his address Friday in Abuja, to commemorate this year’s International Condom Day, the Director General of NACA, Dr. Gambo Aliyu, noted that condoms play an integral role in the country’s HIV response strategy as regards prevention if used correctly and consistently.

He however stressed that the Agency is also keen on promoting faithfulness to one partner. Noting that if people are faithful to their partners, the use of condoms to prevent HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) will be unnecessary.

He said, “Today’s event, since its first commemoration in 2009 has been part of the various innovative ways of promoting the use of condoms and reminding sexually active people that correct use of condoms can prevent sexually transmitted infections like HIV as well as unwanted pregnancy.

“The difference in HIV prevalence between women and men is greatest among younger adults, with young women aged 20 to 24 years more than three times as likely to be living with HIV as young men in the same age group. Among children aged 0-14 years, HIV prevalence is 0.2 percent.

“NACA provides oversight and coordination of the processes and stakeholders involvement with the national HIV response. Prevention continues to be an essential element of the HIV response with condoms as an integral component. When used correctly and consistently, condoms are highly effective in preventing STIs including HIV, and remain a key component of a comprehensive HIV prevention strategy.

“Numerous demand creation, access and utilisation of interventions are in place to promote condom and lubricant to use at various levels through market research social marketing and targeted distribution social mobilization and capacity building.

“The government reinstates its commitment and resolve to mitigate behavioral and biomedical barriers influencing the spread of HIV by ensuring effective implementation of intervention to address individual risk reduction and the new HIV infections.”

Dr. Aliyu, while decrying the risk associated with having multiple sexual partners as it increases vulnerability among the youth population to HIV, urged Nigerians to avoid unprotected sex which often leads to unwanted pregnancies and increased risk of acquiring sexually transmitted infections including HIV/AIDS.

The Program Manager of the AHF, Taofeek Adeleye, who explained that the survey was conducted in 2020, and final report disseminated this year, added: “We have male condoms being more readily available than female condoms. We also have some females that are not even aware of female condoms. As an organisation, we are looking at issues around male and female condoms, and we are also intensifying on condom education promotion.”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Maiduguri Zonal Office, has closed its case in the ongoing trial of Aisha Alkali Wakil, popularly known as "Mama Boko Haram," before Justice Umaru Fadawu of the Borno State High Court, Maiduguri.

The prosecution closed its case today after calling the last two witnesses, Geoffrey Okolorie(PW3) and Bashir Abubakar (PW4).

Okolorie, a staff of the Digital Forensic Unit of the EFCC, Abuja office, while giving evidence told the court that his unit received a letter alongside five mobile phones belonging to Aisha Alkali Wakil, Tahiru Saidu Daura and Prince Lawal Shoyode from the Maiduguri EFCC office, requesting that digital forensic analyses be carried out on the mobile devices.

He said upon the receipt of the devices, a case file was opened and a number assigned.

“I compressed the devices and took out the SIM cards and extracted the data from the SIMs through the cellebrite universal extraction device. The data was extracted in one terabyte storage device.

Gunmen suspected to be cultists have killed two persons during an invasion of Rumuomasi community in Obio/Akpor local government area of Rivers State.

The victims were said to be coming from the market axis of Rumuomasi when the gunmen opened fire on them.

An Ilorin Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday ordered that Usman Abdulkareem, who allegedly conspired with a herbalist, friend to abduct his wife, be remanded in a correctional centre.

The police charged Abdulkareem, a herbalist, Babatunde Mohammed and a friend, Fatai Adisa with two counts of criminal conspiracy and abduction, to commit culpable homicide, contrary to Section 97 and 274 of Penal Code Law.

A man who chopped off his wife’s hands for failing to bear him children has been handed a 30-year jail sentence.

The court in Machakos, Machakos County, jailed Stephen Ngila, 39, for attempted murder for chopping off Jackline Mwende’s hands with a machete in 2016.

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, has asked Nigerians to hold the government responsible for killings by herdsmen in the country.

He said this while arguing a case seeking “justice and accountability for the authorities’ failure to prevent, account for and investigate killings, raping, maiming of Nigerians and other residents, and destruction of property across the country by herdsmen and other unknown perpetrators.”

In a statement on Friday, the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project said the ECOWAS Court of Justice in Abuja adjourned the suit to April 22, 2021, for judgment after hearing arguments fom Falana, who is the solicitor to SERAP, and the government lawyer, Mr Adedayo Ogundele.

TRAGEDY!!! Anambra Man Shoots Wife, 29-year-old Son, Sets His House On Fire And Killed Himself

Thursday, January 28, 2021 will remain indelible in the memories of the people of Amanuke community in Awka North Local Government Area, Anambra State. The unforgettable experience, unfortunately, is for the wrong reason.

Residents of the area had woken up on that fateful day without any inkling of the calamity that would befall one of their own later in the night.

Uchechukwu Nweke, an indigene of the community said to have been having a running battle with his wife and children for several years over an undefined matter, had concluded plans to bring the matter to an end on that day by not only taking his own life but those of his 55-year-old wife and 29-year-old son.

The 65-year-old hunter reportedly married to two wives with no fewer than 10 children, according to sources from the community, had allegedly suffered series of maltreatment, including being beaten by one of his wives and some of her children.

A resident of the area, who preferred anonymity, said the leadership of the community had made several attempts to wade into the matter with a view to resolving the lingering crisis. He, however, regretted that none of the efforts yielded results until tragedy struck.

He said: “I have always known the man to be a hardworking man. In fact, he built his first house in his 20s. He had about seven children from the first wife before he married the second one.

“I can’t actually trace what led to the quarrel between him and the first wife and some of her children, which made them to hate him with passion, particularly the one he killed together with his wife.

“The beating was so much that he, at a time, ran away and decided to build a house close to his farm. Before he finally ended his life, he has suffered internal bleeding from the series of beating by his wife and children, which he feared he might not survive.

60-year-old University Staff Allegedly Raped A 16-year-old Girl Because Her Mom Declined His Marriage Proposal

The management of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), has been accused of aiding and abating justice after the institution allegedly refused to hand over a staff member accused of rape to the police for prosecution.

The suspect identified as 60-year-old Mgbechi Wekwea, a staff in the security department of the institution reportedly abducted a 16-year-old girl at gunpoint and raped her because of her mother's refusal to marry him.

In a leaked telephone conversation between Awulu and a former council boss in Katsina State, the bandits commander admitted the group collected N30m from the state government.

Awulu, a top commander in the banditry group that abducted over 300 schoolboys in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State has said the government paid the group N30 million ransom before the boys were released.

The minister of education, Adamu Adamu while briefing the State House correspondents on Wednesday, 3 February, revealed that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the establishment of additional 20 private universities across the country.

Nine of the private universities are located in North Central, three in South-South, two in South East, five in the North West, and one in South West.

Nigerian activist known as Aisha Yesufu from Edo state, hits another banger concerning our nowadays ladies in the recent interview she did with BBC Pidgin.

In the video that Aisha Yesufu posted on her official Instagram page, she advises all ladies to go and woo the man that they love because time is running fast and they are not getting any younger.

She said that women that are close to 30 and 40 years who says they are waiting for a man who will come and toast them should go out and search for a man to toast and marry.

Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku has asked the Federal government to allow Nigerians carry licenced guns to defend themselves amid the myriads of security challenges facing the country.

Ishaku stated this on Tuesday when 15 local government chairmen of the state paid him a condolence visit after the burial of one of them who was kidnapped and subsequently killed by gunmen.

He lamented the worsening state of insecurity, adding that the situation has gone to its lowest ebb and demands reawakening.

“The security in this country has gone to the lowest ebb and we have to all wake up. We as leaders have given our advises severally as to the change to the security architecture, you cannot keep doing one thing over and over and expect a different result,” he said.

“If we cannot be able to provide security for our citizens, then allow all the citizens to buy AK-47, because if everybody is licensed with AK-47, I swear nobody will come to your house, or peradventure he does then it depends on who is faster.

“In a situation where we are all gagged with one security system that has been unable to work, and we are told to sit down and be counting the day our turn will come, I do not agree with it.”

N100K Paid To Herdsmen By Abia State Gov, Says It's The Best Way To Stop Farmers/Herders Crisis

Okezie Ikpeazu, governor of Abia, says the state government pays herders N100,000 for each cow killed as a result of clashes between them and farmers.

The state government on Tuesday accused herders of kidnapping citizens of the state and of destroying farmlands with cows grazing openly.

Despite banning open grazing in June 2018, herdsmen have reportedly continued to violate the law in the state.

Speaking on Wednesday on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Ikpeazu said the same sum is also paid to farmers whose farmland is destroyed by stray cows.

The governor said the initiative is meant to gain the trust of the people and to prevent them from taking the law into their own hands.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC Ibadan zonal office, on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 secured the conviction of Opeyemi Olasumbo Folarin and Ogunseye Ajibola Olamilekan before Justice Patricia Ajoku of the Federal High Court, Ibadan for Fraudulent Impersonation.

Folarin, who claims to be a 27-year-old Higher National Diploma student of The Ibadan Polytechnic and Ogunseye who claims to be a student of Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta were both found guilty of separate amended lone count of impersonation, an offence contrary to section 22(2)(b)(i) and punishable under section 22(2)(b) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) Act.

Both pleaded guilty to the charges, Justice Ajoku sentenced Folarin and Dike to six months and seven months custodial sentence respectively.

The judge also ordered that Folarin forfeits his Orange colour Iphone XR to the federal government of Nigeria, while Oguseye was ordered to restitute the sum of $700USD (seven Hundred United States of American Dollars) to his victim as well as forfeit his silver Iphone 6 Phone, one Apple series 6 watch, one Apple MacBook, one Playstation, 4 Game pad......... EFCC Arrests Two Brothers for ATM Card Fraud

Operatives of the Makurdi Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC have arrested two brothers, Samson Adayi and Jacob Adayi for alleged ATM card fraud.

The brothers who were picked up today February 3, specialize in stealing innocent citizens ATM cards which they use in transferring funds from Victims’ accounts to a POS terminal, for subsequent withdrawal.

The suspects have numerous accounts which they used in carrying out their fraudulent activities.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission [EFCC] in Ibadan, on Tuesday, February 2, 2021, secured the conviction of one Oluwatobi Damilola Aina before Justice Ladiran Akintola of the Oyo State High Court, sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The 26-year-old who claimed to be a fashion enthusiast, was arrested on September 29, 2020, when the Commission got wind of his fraudulent activities and consequently charged to court on one-count charge bordering on impersonation.

Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) have collected 56.18 million National Identity Numbers (NIN) since the commencement of the ongoing Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) registration started, says the Federal Government.

The government added that over 1,060 registration centres for NIN have been activated by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) across the country to give Nigerians and legal residents more time to integrate their NIN with their SIMs.

Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, who announced this in Abuja, explained that the NIN-SIM linkage deadline of February 9 had been extended to April 6.

According to a statement by the Director, Public Affairs, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr Ikechukwu Adinde and his NIMC counterpart, Mr. Kayode Adegoke, yesterday, the minister ordered the extension after a meeting of the Ministerial Taskforce on NIN-SIM registration.
