Agriculture / Invest In Jireh Project by jasper7(m): 11:32am On May 23, 2017
You remember my investment project I nicknamed Project Jireh? if No.

Visit
https://www.nairaland.com/2845218/project-jireh-investment-closing-ceremony

2 years ago I decided to partner with a select few Nigerians who cannot own or manage a farm. They invested in my Watermelon and Cucumber Production and we paid returns every 6months.

It offered a good source of short term income for our partners.

Project Jireh has been an experience. It has had its ups and downs. I have profited from it and so have my investors.

We took it out of the public view so that it will not just be a photo op farm. We can actually do work and make money for our investors. As I learned the hard way that spending too much time on the internet can actually affect farm productivity

We worked with our small circuit of partners and have tried our best to keep them happy, while remaining very happy.

We have done Jireh 2 and Jireh 3 successfully and now we move on to Jireh 4.

Unfortunately one of our major partners died during the course of Jireh3. And after much deliberation. We have decided to make his stake available to the public.

I can assure you it wont be available for Long.

Please forgive my shallow understanding on this topic, I owe that to the fact that I'm new in the agriculture biz, please I don't really understand this concept oh, is it that as a farmer once II harvest my crops, I should not sell it to those market women in mile two and the rest who would later sell it to the end users, I should instead sell it to vegolas who would then sell it to the end users, so what difference does it make, do I tend to make more profit by selling it to you, please I am not understanding #InAgu'sTongue... Please kindly help me explain in a more detailed and simpler way..thanks
my boss @Pavore9 has done justice to this.

I buy weighed ewedu, okro, plantain etc.

I do not know what you have on ground but l guess you have a digital weighing machine. Digital weighing machines are what is mostly used to sell meat in Kenya. so if you want N200 meat they weigh it there.

Have transparent nylon bags around the produce, so that customer can put different produce they have selected in different nylons (except for bulky stuff life pineapple, watermelon etc) so calculating their prices will be easier. If digital weighing machine is being used it gives room for flexibility and if the okro l may have selected weighs 871gms and you are selling a kilo at N250 then the machine should read N217.75
You are so on point sir... I have been looking for this weighing machine for a while. Finally had to order it last week. Yet to receive delivery for it though. For now, we are using a Digital Scale and doing the calculations manually

I swear, you motivate me in no small measures. I am proud of you!

Actually, I am a dreamer. I dream so much, but you are the realist and the practical one. You are the one who often bring my agricultural entrepreneurship dreams to reality.

You will succeed where others stumble and fall. I am following your progress.

Following:
are you making provisions to carry innovative small scale farmers along or is it only for established farmers who the rules of the game only. i just hope maybe your team could give out desirable seeds and maybe little inputs to the small scalers who will partner with your market in an organised contract basis to ensure year round production.
You are certainly on point! VEGOLAS was built for small and medium scale farmers... We have a farmers support unit... That offers improved input and technical support for small farmers. To improve both quantity and quality of their yield. 100%

So... As a farmer you can be a part of this Revolution!
If you actually pay attention to details in your planting. And you produce quality products... You can join the revolution. You can become one of the farmers on the VEGOLAS farmers Market.

We want your sweat to count for something... Let's seperate the wheat from the chaff. People should actually know the value of what they are buying... I cannot be selling my staked, mulched, and organic cucumbers at the same price as the person who just threw seeds in the ground and let them sprout. angry

If you have a product that you think is worth it, just contact me. And we will be more than happy to have your products in VEGOLAS.

Funny thing was our prices were unbeatable, we were making a killing as farmers. We discovered that the middlemen have been ripping us off all along! Lol

Our customers couldn't believe the prices of the things on the shelves... Farmer happy, Consumer happy, middleman hungry grin

So... A lot of people have asked me why I opened the first VEGOLAS prototype store in benin.

The answer is that Benin is central, to the east, West, south and Middle belt which are the major zones my farmer friends are Located...

On the 1st of october, we opened with 32 different fruits and veggies from over 20 different farmers, some of whom were present to interact with the consumers...

The stage has been set. VEGOLAS has come to stay.
Being that it is the first of its kind, There were a lot of challenges in setting up and logiatics but we believe before we Launch Lagos, Abuja and Port harcourt soon, we will overcome them all.

Remember early this year, I posted I wanted to quit farming this year?

I received a lot of calls from my concerned followers persuading me not to quit! Lol

Well, we took a step into the future as we Launched VEGOLAS.

VEGOLAS is a platform we are developing where farmers can sell their products directly to the end user in a healthy environment. No long chains, No middleman.

To me as a farmer, VEGOLAS is very important, because it offers me the opportunity to sell my products to the end users. When I remember the stress and protocol I go through to produce neat, healthy and high quality products. it bleeds my heart, taking my PREMIUM products to a place as dirty and as smelly as open markets like mile12, Sabo market, Relief market and Oba market. It just hurts, Really!

I can't complain forever, Really. I cannot complain. I have to step up and find solutions to my problems. and that was how VEGOLAS was born. First Stop: Benin city, Edo state

Thank you for teaching me a new term. Overtime, I've learnt to always choose institutions over individuals. Generally speaking, businesses ought to outlive people. I would like to see something like a publicly traded agriculture fund where proceeds go directly into investment in farmers and agriculture. Nigeria is all about diversification theses days, however, diversification for it to happen would require some big numbers which most small farms might not be able to produce given the skill and capital requirement.

Thanks !!!
Your submission makes sense but is a bit flawed... Individuals build institutions. If Nigerians don't invest in individuals How do you think such institutions will be established

Working directly with me can be fun... Because we get to try out things for the first time together... Like the yellow watermelon produced by previous Trainee staff I have been associated with. grin
And other things they produced just for fun.

Yummy!
