The 23 year old would-be bomber of Northwest airline flight 253 has been identified as a Nigerian engineering student at a British university. Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab, tried to blow up a transatlantic aircraft nearing Detroit in a suspected al-Qaeda plot.

The Al-Qaida linked Nigerian, Abdul Farouk Abdulmutallab is an engineering student at University College London and the son of recently retired chairman of First Bank of Nigeria Dr. Umaru Abdul Mutallab.

The father of the bomber, Dr. Muttalab was born in 1939 in Katsina Township, the home state of Nigeria’s president, Umaru Musa Yar’adua.
