Sports / Re: Juventus To Be Called Piemonte Calcio In Fifa After PES Deal by Jaycarnes01(m): 8:39pm On Jul 16, 2019
PES historically chose not to pay for expensive licences, instead letting its gameplay speak for itself.
And in PES 2019 Juventus were known as PM Black White.
Whether this latest development is the first step in a new direction is unclear - but it marks the first time that PES has got one over on its rival with a major licence.
Meanwhile, Fifa 20 has announced its own "long-term" partnership with Liverpool FC, which comes after Konami announced their contract with the Champions League winners had come to an end.

Sports / Re: Juventus To Be Called Piemonte Calcio In Fifa After PES Deal by Jaycarnes01(m): 8:38pm On Jul 16, 2019
PES v Fifa
It is a debate that has raged on for years.
The two games have been rivals since Fifa 95 and International Superstar Soccer (PES's former name) were released in November 1994.
Annual releases followed for each game, with Fifa almost always holding the licences to every major team and player, barring a few notable absences.
For example, EA Sports missed out on the licence to the other Ronaldo back in Fifa 99, where he was replaced by a suspiciously similar Brazilian called A Calcio.

Sports / Juventus To Be Called Piemonte Calcio In Fifa After PES Deal by Jaycarnes01(m): 8:37pm On Jul 16, 2019
Fifa 20 will not feature Juventus, after Konami, the games company that makes Pro Evolution Soccer 2020, signed an exclusive deal with the club.
Players of Fifa 20 will instead have to search for "Piemonte Calcio" if they want to play as Juventus stars such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Aaron Ramsey.
Piemonte Calcio will have its own badge and kit, designed by EA Sports.
This marks the first time in 25 years that Fifa will not hold the licence for the Serie A champions.

Alonso came through his boyhood club's reserve team, known as Sanse, before going on to win the Champions League with Liverpool and Real Madrid.

He was appointed on a two-year deal in June and began his new role on Tuesday.

"It's a beautiful day and very special," said Alonso, 37. "Everything I've lived was born here, first in Sanse and then in the first team."

Alonso made 124 appearances for Real Sociedad, helping them qualify for the 2003-04 Champions League, before winning Europe's premier club competition in his first season with Liverpool in 2004-05.

Sports / Nigeria Knock Out AFCON Holders Cameroon In Thriller by Jaycarnes01(m): 7:54pm On Jul 06, 2019
Holders Cameroon were knocked out of the Africa Cup of Nations by Nigeria in a five-goal last-16 thriller.

Goals from Stephane Bahoken and Clinton Njie saw Cameroon lead 2-1 at half-time after Odion Ighalo had put Nigeria ahead in Alexandria, Egypt.

But two goals in three minutes swung the game back in Nigeria's favour and set up a quarter-final with either hosts Egypt or South Africa.

Ighalo equalised before the forward set up Alex Iwobi to hit the winner.

Relive the action from Alexandria as Cameroon are knocked out
Nigeria had been on the receiving end of an upset in their previous game, a 2-0 defeat by Madagascar in their final group match.

Yet they produced their best performance of the tournament to end Cameroon's hopes of retaining the title they won in Gabon in 2017.

Ighalo's deflected shot gave Nigeria the lead before Bahoken side-footed the equaliser after Christian Bassogog's cross.

In an enthralling tie, Cameroon took the lead through Njie's composed finish.

Man-of-the-match Ighalo made it 2-2 with a volley after Ahmed Musa's chest down before Ighalo turned provider for Arsenal's Iwobi to slot in a dramatic decisive goal.

Sports / Nigeria's Rohr ‘scared’ Of Individual Errors In Cameroon Tie by Jaycarnes01(m): 5:21pm On Jul 05, 2019
Nigeria head coach Gernot Rohr says he is "scared" of his side "committing individual errors" in their Africa Cup of Nations last-16 tie with Cameroon.

The Super Eagles were beaten by underdogs Madagascar in their last group game after a defensive lapse from centre-back Leon Balogun.

The result saw the Super Eagles finish second in Group B and set up a meeting with rivals Cameroon in Alexandria.

"I hope we won't have individual errors again that will cost us," said Rohr.

He said the match against Madagascar was disappointing, adding "but we and the fans have learned to be humble".

"There were changes in the team to play some players and keep them in the rhythm of the competition, but now the best team have to start against Cameroon to make Nigeria proud," he said.

The two countries have had a long history of vying for dominance in the African game and Rohr says his side are hopeful of finding Cameroon's "weak points" despite missing injured captain John Obi Mikel.

Meanwhile, Cameroon coach Clarence Seedorf wants forward Karl Toko Ekambi to rediscover his La Liga form against Nigeria.

Ekambi, who scored the most league goals at Villarreal last season (10), has failed to find the net for the Indomitable Lions in three group matches.

The defending champions have only scored two goals in their opening three games but Seedorf has defended his side, and out-of-form striker Ekambi, saying "sometimes teams do not score for weeks and forwards do not score for months".

"Karl and the other forwards have to improve a few details, be smarter and create more chances," added the four-time Champions League winner.

"We pushed forward in each group game, we introduced attacking players off the bench, but we dare not try crazy stuff. We have to respect our opponents."

Sports / Frenkie De Jong: Ajax Hire Bus To Thank Barcelona-bound Player by Jaycarnes01(m): 11:56am On Jul 05, 2019
Dutch giants Ajax have hired a bus and taken out a full-page advert in a Spanish newspaper to wish Frenkie de Jong good luck as he joins Barcelona.

The bus, featuring an image of De Jong, will be driven through the Spanish city before his unveiling on Friday.

The message on the bus and in the newspaper reads: "Barca, enjoy the future like we do."

Barcelona secured the signing of the Dutch midfielder, 22, in January and will pay an initial 75m euros (£67m).

De Jong played 89 times for Ajax after joining from Willem II in 2015, and has won seven caps for the Netherlands.

He was part of the Ajax side that won the domestic double last season and reached the Champions League semi-final, where they were beaten by eventual runners-up Tottenham.
