An 18-year-old undergraduate of the Abia State University, Divine Ibeneme, has confessed that he acquired a locally made gun to protect himself from armed robbers and cultists on campus. Ibeneme, who was paraded by the Commissioner of Police in Abia State, Mr. Adeleye Oyebade, in Umuahia, said he was under threat by some group of cultists who once robbed him of his phones and money for allegedly wearing a bangle that belonged to their cult group. He added that he opted to acquire a gun to prevent a repeat of such intimidation. Ibeneme said, “Due to the rampant armed robbery attacks and killing of students in my school, I decided to purchase a gun for self defence because when the bad boys approach you, they will tell you not to talk and if you do, they will try to kill or behead you. “That was why I wanted to work for my safety. I bought the gun for N7, 000 in Rivers State. But unfortunately for me, as I was travelling back to school after purchasing the gun, my bag was searched by police officers at a check point along the road, they found the gun in my bag and arrested me.” The suspect, who hails from Umulolo in Imo State, denied being a member of any secret cult group. While insisting that he had no intention of hurting any student with the gun, Ibeneme maintained that he wanted to use it to protect himself from cultists. “I just got the gun so that if they (cultists) harass me again, I will show them what I have for them so that they will leave me alone. An official of Kano Electricity Distribution Company [KERDCO], Usaini Usman, has been electrocuted while disconnecting an electricity cable in Kano. The deceased, aged 37, died on Thursday afternoon when his head got in contact with a high tension power line at the Federal College of Education, Kano.
Alhaji Mustapha Rilwan, Kano State Director, Fire Service, confirmed the incident in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Friday. He said that a good Samaritan called the fire service and was dispatched to the scene, at about 2:33 pm. Multi-award winning Nigerian comedian, Bright Okpocha, popularly known as Basketmouth, has blamed former president, Goodluck Jonathan, for the economic problems currently being faced in the country. In an explosive piece posted on his official Instagram page, the comic actor also made it clear that he did not campaign for Muhammadu Buhari, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, during the last general election.

I usually try not to pay attention to comments from people that assume stuff or those who judge others based on perceptions. However I have also come to agree that when lies are said often enough, they begin to sound like truths. So I think it’s best I use this medium to clear the issue of “campaigns” and “support” now.
While many of my colleagues, friends and family members campaigned for the PDP, APC and various candidates during the last elections (and I cannot emphasize enough that it is their RIGHT to do so), I NEVER campaigned for BUHARI or ANY other politician. ALL those saying that I did should do everything within their power to “THINK”. I know thinking can be a very difficult task for some but trust me, it can be a painless and enlightening process. THINK of when I ever “CAMPAIGNED” for BUHARI!!.. Indeed I personally HOPED that he would win the election and perhaps that was evident in my “body language” and I am happy he won. But I did not campaign for him.
Nigeria was in a bad place by the end of the last administration and it was only a matter of time before we would have suffered the plights of Brazil and Venezuela. Truth of the matter is that I would have voted ANYONE that could speak 2 words of English against GEJ and that’s strictly based on the amount of greed and selfishness we witnessed from members of his administration in the 6 years that he sat on the rock. They put us in this Septic tank we are in right now…..well, that and the oil price downfall amongst other things.
I have said it numerous times that I am not a politician hence I try not to dabble in politics. However I think a few people interpret crying out against injustice by the one as campaign for the other. When the Late FELA KUTI and BOB MARLEY cried out against the injustices in their days, were they being partisan? Of course not. They were just being HUMAN!
I am forever grateful to God for blessing me with a flourishing career, a beautiful family, food on my table and small change in my pocket. However I see too many people everyday who have not been so lucky to travel and see the way things are outside Nigeria/Africa. I have seen how GOVERNMENT can influence and affect the lives of the downtrodden positively. I am still patient, praying and hoping that PMB can turn Nigeria’s economy around and help strengthen Nigeria’s social justice system.
Not so I can cheer him and be vindicated that I was right and some were wrong, but so my friends, family members and well-wishers who haven’t been favored as others can have renewed hope in our country Nigeria and the brotherhood we have enjoyed in this generation. Even the United States went through a tough recession in 2008 and with some patience they have been able to turn that around.
So long story short, did I campaign for PMB? NO! Do I support and PRAY that his administration should succeed and improve the life of the common man, increase security, food, jobs, infrastructure, quality of education, healthcare and every other area that will make Nigerians proud wherever they may find themselves? YES!!

Manchester United have completed their transfer of Paul Pogba from Juventus for a world-record transfer fee of £89m.

The French international has completed his medical at the club and signed a five-year deal, with the 105m Euros fee also potentially increasing through several add-on clauses.

A university lecturer at the Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, has been reportedly arrested in a hotel, trying to sleep with one of his students.

The lecturer, names withheld, was arrested naked at the Wembley Hotel in the University town with the student, Esther, who arranged the arrest.

Sunday Telegraph reports the victim told the police on July 19, last month, that her Course Adviser in Primary/ Nursery Education Department at the University has been harassing her sexually and threatening to fail her if she refused to yield to his sexual desire.

Two days after, during Mathematics examination, the victim raced to the police station to inform
detectives that she has agreed for a particular date for sex with the lecturer.

The state Commissioner of Police, Zanna Muhammed Ibrahim, at the command headquarters in Asaba, yesterday, said the lecturer was caught naked and ready to take on the student.

“Based on the complainant’s feigned acceptance of the suspect’s demand, she was taken to Wembley hotel, Abraka, by the suspect on, where detectives were invited and arrested him in the hotel room after he had already undressed,” he said.
While the CP said investigation had commenced on the matter, he said on the same day, a 52-year-old man was caught defiling a seven year- old girl in Sapele axis of the state.

According to him, a woman residing at Fobie Lane, off New Road Sapele reported the matter at the police station.

The victim, Sunday Telegraph gathered went out to play with other children in their neighbourhood but returned home crying and complaining of pain in her private part. On close observation, the mother discovered protrusion and bleeding in the minor’s genital.

The victim revealed to her mother that Papa Rukewe, a former Councillor in the area, dragged her to his backyard and put one of his hands inside her private part, while using the other hand to cover her mouth to prevent her from shouting. She added that the suspect later had carnal knowledge of her.

President Muhammadu Buhari’s wife, Aisha has spoken out about why she traveled to United States.

Aisha Buhari has addressed lingering questions about her US trip and Governor Fayose’s allegations.

Mrs Buhari, on Saturday revealed that she was on a week-long visit to the United States of America to hold discussions with aid organizations on how to help the women and children facing starvation in the north eastern part of Nigeria.

She made these revelations in an interview with the Hausa service of the Voice of America, VOA.

“Our children in the various camps are in dire situation and the government alone cannot do it, we have to get help,” she said.

Mrs. Buhari said already, she had met with organisations known for promoting peace and provision of aids to displaced children.

Mrs. Buhari said she met with officials of the United States Institute for peace on Friday and assured them that unlike what obtained in the past, any aid rendered to displaced persons would go to those who needed them.

She also said she told the officials that what was needed now was not even cash because statistics had shown that children between the ages of five months and seven years were dying in large number due to hunger-related diseases.

She said the United Nations International Children Fund (UNICEF) had been providing aid packages containing nut-related supplements, which, she said, areproduced in large quantities by Nigerian farmers.

Mrs. Buhari said she told the officials that there was need to set up a plant in Nigeria that could produce the package.

“It often takes between 6-8 weeks for these things to be shipped to Nigeria, before they arrive, many children would have died, so I suggested to them to set up the manufacturing plant in the country if they really want to help is,” she said.

Mrs. Buhari said she started pay close attention to the issue after recent revelations indicated women and children were dying of hunger in some IDP camps in Borno State.

Mrs. Buhari also said she sued Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, because he attacked her for no reason, while also raising false allegations against her.

She said Mr. Fayose had been insulting her and the president since during the 2015 campaign.

“At the time, he was not the only one insulting us, but people felt that it was just campaign,” Mrs. Buhari said.

“After the election, which we won and they lost, everyone else moved on except him and he extended his insults to me.

“I did not run for president. I am a married woman and I have never called his name. I never knew him. But as governor and chief executive, he kept insulting and raising false allegations against me, I have to respond and I decided to go to court.

“He made allegations over what he said I did here in the US, even though I have never met the people he mentioned.”

Mr. Fayose had dared Mrs. Buhari to visit the United States after he falsely accused her of having been indicted in the famous William Jefferson bribery scandal.

Following the invasion of Kpaidma village in Bosso Local Government Area of Niger State by a joint military team of the Army and Air Force men, five persons have been feared dead, two injured and four vehicles destroyed. The military and Air Force officers were said to be searching for arms and ammunition in the village. The operation was said to have taken place around 1a.m. It was gathered that the invasion was sequel to a tip-off that weapons were being stockpiled in the village. It was gathered that immediately the team commenced operation, the villagers woke up and responded in self-defence, thinking herdsmen had invaded.
When contacted, the state Police Command spokesman, Bala Elkana, confirmed the military operation, but said the Command was not aware of any death, saying “we actually received a distress call around 1a.m. that armed herdsmen had invaded a village.
“The command immediately sent mobile policemen and other combatants to the village, only to discover that it was a military operation. But I am not aware of any death.”
Elkana, however, confirmed that two persons were injured and were recuperating, while four vehicles belonging to the Army were destroyed.
He said immediately the military started the operation, the villagers who had always been on the alert since the frequent invasions of the village by armed herdsmen, immediately mobilised and embarked on counter-attacks, not knowing that it was a military operation. He said that the situation had now been brought under control with armed policemen keeping vigil in the area to allay the fear of the residents of the village and its suburbs. The Assistant Director Army Public Relations, Major Njideka Agwu, said there was information that “arms and ammunition were being stockpiled in the village and we went for a search immediately for verification and clarification.
“Unfortunately, the villagers opened fire on us and we do not know the number of causalities for now. The police in Kenya have arrested a group of secondary school teenagers posing n*ked for a photo-shoot to be released on a ****ographic site. it was reported that the minors were arrested at the weekend by police after they were found stripping at the Victoria Park in Kisumu County, Kenya.

The group of girls were exposed after people at the park could not take the indecency being displayed and called police. The underage girls could be seen posing n*ked in different provocative positions which irked people at the park.

They were apprehended and taken to Kisumu Central Police Station. Paul Pogba has agreed to join Manchester United, according to reports.

Spanish daily Marca say that the Juventus midfielder has given the thumbs up to the Red Devils’ proposal.

He will earn £10.8m-a-year on a five-season deal, according to the paper.

Real Madrid had shown an interest in the 23-year-old but United look to have won the race.

Pogba has apparently told his team of advisors – including agent Mino Raiola – that he wants to join United with Madrid as the only other team he would consider joining.

Raiola was widely expected to be set for a bumper payment for his role in making the deal happen but Marca say that would be because he owns 20% of the player’s rights, rather than a fee.

That means he will bank around £20m from the £100m transfer fee leaving Juventus with the other £80m.

The transfer will make the Frenchman the world’s most-expensive player after he left Old Trafford for just £800,000 in compensation four years ago.

His £100m deal eclipses Gareth Bale’s £86m move from Tottenham to Real Madrid in 2013.
