Nairaland / General / Malaysian Couple Jailed For Stealing From Missing MH370 Passengers by jbce(m): 12:19pm On May 22, 2015
A Malaysian court on Friday in Kuala Lumpur jailed
a couple for stealing from the bank accounts of
people aboard missing Malaysia Airlines flight
MH370, a news report said Friday.
Court Judge, Norsharidah Awang, said the former
bank employee, Nur-Shila Kanan, 34, was
sentenced to six years in jail after admitting 12
counts of illegally obtaining 21,600 dollars from the
bank accounts of people aboard the missing plane.
“I hope you will repent and take the jail sentence
as a lesson.
“It is very wrong for a bank officer to transfer and
withdraw money owned by your clients.
“You took advantage of the trust given by them,”
he said.
The judge said Kanan’s husband, Basheer Hameed,
34, had already been sentenced to four years in jail
and three strokes of the cane for admitting to four
counts of withdrawing 7,650 ringgit from the bank
account of a passenger.
Awang said the offences were committed between
May 14 and July 8, 2014, a few months after the
Beijing-bound plane disappeared on March 8 after
taking off from Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
Politics / Buhari Again Commends Jonathan’s Statesmanship by jbce(m): 12:37am On May 22, 2015
The President-elect, retired Maj.-Gen.
Muhammadu Buhari, has again commended,
President Goodluck Jonathan, for conceding
defeat at the March 28 polls.
Buhari, who gave the commendation in Abuja
on Thursday when he received Nigerien
President Issoufou Mahamadou, said
Jonathan’s action turned around Nigeria’s
nervous political process.
He said: “The Nigerien president purposely
came to congratulate me on my victory and
President Jonathan for the maturity and
statesmanship that he exhibited by accepting
that he had lost the election.
“His action actually doused tensions and
averted crisis in Nigeria.
“Not only Africa but the world has
commended the president for that because if
he had disputed the elections, there would
have been crisis in the country.
“That is what people don’t want, not only
Nigerians but other countries. So, he came to
commend President Jonathan for his courage
and statesmanship.’’
He said Mahammadou had also come to
show solidarity and acknowledged Nigeria’s
importance on the continent.
Buhari said but for colonialism, Niger and
Nigeria and all countries living along the
border were one as they shared similar
cultures, religions and mannerisms.
“As he rightly puts it, if Nigeria sneezes, the
rest of Africa catches cold because of its
importance, population and resources.
“So, Nigeria and Niger Republic are one
entity as one singer from Niger puts it in his
lyrics. We share a 1,500 kilometre long
border with Niger which stretches from Chad
to Sokoto, and all the people living along the
borders on either sides are same people.
“The colonialists separated these people
when they partitioned Africa at the Berlin
conference in 1885. They separated the
Fulanis, Kanuris and the Hausas from their
brothers who are presently in Niger.
“They separated the Yorubas of Nigeria and
the ones in Benin Republic. They also
separated the Fulanis and other tribes who
were living together as one along the
Cameroon border.
“So, all these countries around us were a
single entity with people of similar culture
and religion before they became separated
but time has changed and we thank him for
reminding us of our history of brotherhood.’’
Earlier, Mahammadou said he was in Nigeria
to convey the gratitude and salutation of
Niger Republic for the peaceful conduct of
the elections held in spite of challenges.
“President Jonathan conceding defeat and
this act will have a lasting impact and
influence on politics in Africa, West Africa
and Africa at large.
“So, I’m here both to congratulate the
president-elect and the people of Nigeria for
the smooth conduct of the elections,’
Mahammadou said. (NAN)

Education / Most Challenging Courses To Study In Nigeria by jbce(m): 5:32pm On Mar 24, 2015
No course studied in the higher institution seems
easy, but some are brutal and can snuff life outta
you. However, don't get afraid of them. They're
actually interesting. So grab a packet of popcorn as
I take you through them.
1. Engineering: the name of this course speaks for
itself already. The dudes that study this course
eh.....*winks*. It undeniably houses all heavy weight
courses in engine faculty like chemical engineering,
mechanical, production, petroleum...etc..any guy
you see rushing to lecture hall with a punching
calculator, they're engine boys o.
2.Medicine: What makes this course challenging, is
because you'll be forced to read(jack) like your life
depends on the degree of knowledge you obtain
from their heavy an bulky textbooks. Some of them
actually do go for thanksgiving, when they pass
their MBBS exam, that contains Anatomy, physiology
and biochem.
3.Biochemistry: people usually think that it's a
combination of biology and chemistry. If you're one
of such, abeg, it's a wrong impression. You will
actually get familiar with Bio molecules and giant
Organic structures, that will choke you up. This
course requires much logic.
What makes it challenging,is that you'll have to
learn a lot within a short duration. Metabolic
pathways might seem frustrating atimes...*winks*.
Another thing about this course is that their
lecturers are always sadists, due to long years of
studying brutal carbohydrate and enzyme
structures.
4.Chemistry: I call this course the power, because
these dudes can mix chemical concoctions of
Ammonia and HCL and blow everywhere...chem
guys, I dey joke o....Its actually one of the most
difficult in physical science, because you'll make
friends with differential equation in physical
chemistry, which will leave you wondering if you're
studying maths or chemical reactions.
5.Pharmacy: Its already obvious.don't know where
to begin with this course. It overlaps critical aspect
of chemistry. You hear stuffs like pharmacokinetics,
drug metabolisms etc.
6.Architecture: the funny thing about this course is
that it sounds cool and friendly, but when you get
in,you know that not all that glitters are gold. You'll
get familiar with geometric drawings, optics and so
on, which atimes is usually a pain to the ass.
