Business / Ebola Virus Impacts Shipping by jbhworldwide: 9:10pm On Aug 22, 2014
As everyone watches the ongoing West Africa Ebola virus outbreak, we all hope for the best. Hundreds of victims have been infected and died in the region. As a response, organizations sent medical professionals to help the sick in those nations. The international shipping industry is also taking precautions against the threat of the Ebola virus. If your business ships ocean freight containers around the globe, especially in the West African nations of Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone, then this issue might concern you.

The threat of the Ebola Virus has already forced three shipping organizations to issue a Red Alert. Those three organizations are the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), the International Maritime Employers’ Council (IMEC) and the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF). Recently, they announced guidelines for their shipping crews to ensure safety on the vessels that transport goods to or from West Africa.

The Journal of Commerce recently reported that many shipping companies are dismissing any worries regarding the Ebola virus. And even the World Health Organization agrees that transportation should not be a big problem. But there are still some shipping lines that are taking precautions. Some carriers might add a surcharge for transporting goods to or from West Africa. And some carriers might refuse to go to West Africa at all. There have even been reports of quarantining ships as a caution.

If business your needs to ship goods to or from West Africa during this crisis, speak to a freight forwarder who has great experience of shipping to that region.

jbhworldwide: Nigeria Seen by McKinsey in World’s Top 20 Economies by 2030

Nigeria has the potential to be one of the world’s top 20 economies by 2030 with a consumer base exceeding the current populations of France and Germany, according to McKinsey & Co.

Africa’s biggest economy may expand about 7.1 percent a year through 2030, boosting gross domestic product to $1.6 trillion, possibly pushing it above Netherlands, Thailand and Malaysia, the New York-based company said in a report today. About 60 percent of Nigeria’s estimated population of 273 million by then may live in households earning more than $7,500 a year, fueling a consumer boom, McKinsey said.

“Nigeria has a very positive outlook,” Acha Leke, co-author of the report, said in an interview with BloombergTV Africa in Johannesburg. “The most important thing that needs to be done to get it there is execution” of government policies.

As Africa’s largest oil producer with a population of about 170 million, Nigeria has consistently posted annual growth rates in excess of 4 percent over the past decade. That’s spurred foreign investors such as Unilever Plc (ULVR), Nestle SA (NESN) and Shoprite Holdings Ltd. (SHP) to expand operations.

Based on McKinsey’s growth estimates for the economy, annual sales in consumer goods could more than triple to $1.4 trillion by 2030 from $388 billion currently, it said.

Autos / How To Ship Vehicles Overseas by jbhworldwide: 4:57pm On Jul 31, 2014
How to Ship Cars Overseas

Whether you are shipping your car overseas because you are moving or starting an auto export business, you need to be aware of the auto export process and what to expect when shipping cars overseas. This post is also relevant to shipping boats, motorcycles, motor homes overseas. We will generalize everything as “car” and “cars” and sometimes “auto” or “autos” in this post. Let’s start with the different types of vessels and equipment available to ship cars overseas. There are several ways to ship cars overseas: Full Container (20′/40′/45′), RORO (roll-on, roll-off), or Flat Rack (20′/40′). Most cars are shipped via Full Containers or RORO. When cars or boats are over width, typically they are loaded in Flat Racks. Full Container Shipping (aka intermodal shipping containers): the vast majority of ocean shipments go via containers. The industry term is FCL (full container) when referring to shipping a full container and LCL (less than container) when shipping in a “shared container” with other shippers. There are multiple types of containers, this is a good website to learn more: http://www.evergreen-marine.com/tei1/jsp/TEI1_Containers.jsp RORO Shipping: this is a vessel with a large warehouse the ship designed to carry wheeled or static cargo such as cars, tractors, trailers, and other oversize cargo. Shipping cars with RORO is not available from every US port to every destination worldwide. So you need to ask if your freight forwarder has service from the port or origin and destination you are shipping. Shipping Autos with Air Freight: customers sometimes require their cars to be shipped urgently. In this case, shipping a car with air freight is the only available option. The price is many times more expensive, but urgency costs money! Breakbulk Shipping: this option is not used for shipping cars, but is good to know about. Breakbulk vessels are used to ship loose cargo that cannot be loaded in intermodal containers such as grains, oils, and minerals. What you will need to ship your car overseas:
• Original Title to the car (applies to all types except boats)

• Bill of sale with value shown

• EIN Number (for US Customs purposes)

• The car delivered with less than 1/8 tank of gas

You will be asked to fill out a Power of Attorney (POA) allowing your freight forwarder to file export documentation on your behalf as well as a Shipper’s Letter of Instruction (SLI) which shows details of the cargo (e.g. shipper, consignee, cargo value, etc). It is highly recommended to always buy marine insurance when shipping cars. This is because the freight forwarder is not responsible or obligated to pay you if your cargo is damaged in transit. Freight Forwarders typically have Terms and Conditions written on their invoices and bills of lading that limit their liability to $500 per shipment.
If you are shipping a single car, shipping in a “consolidation” is a good option if your freight forwarder has a consolidation to the destination are shipping to. Otherwise you can ask for a rate for a full container or RORO.

hello,
I am sorry it took so long to answer you.
I did not receive an email from the forum that someone was waiting for a reply.

Depending on where the vehicle is located it can take usually 3 weeks.
first, we would transport the car to the closest port available. this can take 1-7 days. (the closer to the port the car is located the faster it will get there)
second, once at the port, the vehicle has to clear customs(usually 3 days)
third, the ocean shipment takes 15 days.
hope this answers your questions.
if you need anything else let me know

Car Talk / Re: Cotonou Car Market Vs Berger Lagos Car Market by jbhworldwide: 6:00pm On Jul 15, 2014
who do you use to export the vehicles out of new york?
Freddieyankee: Well I would love to chip in... Before I traveled to the state I use to help people buy cars from Cotonou and I can say it much more better to buy in Cotonou than Berger cuz dealers from Berger also buys from Cotonou, take it back to Lagos to sell for higher price.
By the grace of God I am now in NYC and I av my own dealer license from 3 different car auctions companies and this helps me get better cars in term of quality and price....
If you av any questions abt buying cars in the states please let me know...... Only serious minded people please.
