Politics / Pope Transfigure Catholic Matrimony Cancellation Procedures by jeff500: 11:41pm On Sep 08, 2015
Pope Francis today transfigured the procedure for Roman Catholics to get marriage annulments, making them faster and simpler and calling on bishops to provide greater help to divorced couples.
The most substantial changes to Catholic marriage annulment procedures in centuries again showed Francis' desire for the Church to be more merciful to Catholics in difficulty. The 1.2 billion member Church does not recognize divorce.
In a document known as a Motu Proprio, Latin for "by his own initiative", Francis reaffirmed traditional teaching on the "indissolubility of marriage", but streamlined procedures that many considered cumbersome, lengthy, outdated and expensive. Full Story

Politics / Syrian Immigrants In Uruguay Said They Want To Shift To Elsewhere by jeff500: 11:03pm On Sep 08, 2015
Five relatives of Syrian immigrant granted asylum in Uruguay last year protested outside the president's offices on Monday, demanding they be allowed to leave the South American country in search of better jobs, even back in the Middle East.
Uruguay received the 42 Syrians fleeing civil war in October 2014, but the families said they felt the leftist government had failed to deliver on a promise of good incomes.
"I am not afraid to go back to Lebanon," said 36-year-old Aldees Maher, whose family had initially sought safety in a refugee camp across the border from Syria. "I want a place that guarantees me, my family a life."
Their protests come as Europe struggles to cope with record numbers of asylum seekers escaping conflicts in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, and illustrate the challenge host nations face integrating the often-destitute refugees.

The Minnesota dentist from Usa who killed Zimbabwean lion Cecil, sparking a global outcry from animal lovers, returned to work today (Tuesday) to shouts of "murderer" and "leave town" from a half dozen protesters, but support from some patients at his suburban Minneapolis office.
Walter Palmer, 55, did not have a word to reporters as he entered his Bloomington, Minnesota, dental practice. He shut the practice in late July amid a firestorm of protests after he was publicly identified as the hunter who killed the rare black-maned lion weeks before.
The death of Cecil, a familiar sight at Zimbabwe's Hwange National Park, triggered threats on social media, stoked controversy over big-game hunting and prompted three U.S. airlines to ban transport of African big game killed by trophy hunters.

Politics / The Former Governor Of River State Mr Amaechi Said Nobody Can Probe Me by jeff500: 10:23am On Sep 07, 2015
The former Governor of Rivers State, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, says no anti-corruption agency in the country can probe him.
Amaechi along with some other former governors: Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano); Sullivan Chime (Enugu); Babatunde Fashola (Lagos); Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom); Sule Lamido (Jigawa); Shehu Shema (Katsina) and Martin Elechi of Ebonyi State were being probed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and related offences Commission. reported by The PUNCH NewsHowever, Chief Tony Okocha, a former aide to Amaechi, told one of our correspondents that the ex-governor was not afraid of ICPC or the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission as long as the probe was not a witch-hunt.
Okocha, however, recalled that the ICPC and the EFCC had not vacated a court order stopping any of them from investigating any Rivers Government official and as such could not probe him.
He stated that Governor Nyesom Wike was a beneficiary of such order from the court, adding that until the court injunction was vacated, it would be illegal for the ICPC to probe his boss.
“I have always said that Amaechi is not afraid of the EFCC or the ICPC as long as such probe is not a witch-hunt. Again, there is a court order that the EFCC or other agency like it cannot probe any government official in the state. Wike is a beneficiary of that court order.
“Until that court order is vacated, the ICPC or the EFCC have no right to investigate Amaechi. Since what they are going to investigate is his (Amaechi’s) activities while in government, the EFCC and the ICPC do not have such right to do so based on the standing court order.” This is a link

Henry said the Eagles will sorely experience the absence of the former Vicent shot stopper in goalkeeping department where he reigns as a colossus.
“Vicent’s absence is a setback to the side’s Afcon campaign against Tanzania in Dar es Salaam on Saturday.
“Not to undermine the potency of the goalkeepers in the squad, but I don't think we have a credible replacement.
“Enyeama’s absence will certainly hurt the team. especially in the goalkeeping area,” said the former Nigerian captain to supersport.com.
Nwosu however said that the three-time African champions will overcome the Tanzanian hurdle.
“Tanzania is not a big time football nation but there are also no pushovers in the round leather game.
