Politics / Re: Rivers: Tinubu Leads Obi With 42,623 Votes In 11 Lgas Announced So Far by jelel6: 7:04pm On Feb 27, 2023
I said yesterday that I was surprised Rivers would vote for Tinubu/APC to any substantial level. They never liked APC. One would expect Obi and PDP to take majority of the votes.

It's hard to explain this result from Rivers but there have been lots of strange results this election. With the way the election has been going, APC don't need to rig Rivers to win overall. Why risk soiling a largely free and fair elections with unnecessary rigging?

God bless AREWA

Every single politician of repute in Zamfara state is in APC. The court installed PDP-governor had to decamp to APC because he knew he can't win under PDP, even as sitting governor. No surprise they didn't vote Atiku in the presidential.

Not really, this very PDP contestant, Alimikhena is a 3-term APC senator and people actually say he's kind. I'm sure Alimikhena in APC would defeat Philip shaibu in PDP in Edo North, especially if Oshio supports him as same party. Just that oshiomole decided to contest himself.

Fair enough. But voting doesn't equate getting it right. Not like nobody voted in 2019.

Business / Re: We Are Still Collecting Old Naira Notes - ECOBANK, UBA by jelel6: 11:21pm On Feb 17, 2023
The reason why some of these banks are still collecting old notes is because they know CBN and Emefiele are dumb. Commercial banks haven't yet deposited all the old notes collected months ago with CBN, so who's to know where this ones are coming from?

You get sense so? Let's do this simple math, i have 500k old notes as a business man, i took the old notes to bank. They collected it without giving me the new notes. How do you expect me to pay my suppliers who are unbanked?, How do you expect me to pay for petty transactions? Logistics? Food? Water?...will all transactions be cash based?, You took 3 thrilling out and injected 500billion, check the ratio?....go to the banks, no cash in the vaults and ATMS, for a country of over 200million...i tried using app, it failed.... When all these cash brouhaha started, banks were still dispensing the old notes. Infact, the new notes didn't come out immediately. you must be a fool. And e no go better for you o.

Thank you. Bros, if many people get sense, we for no dey this bad as a nation and people.

The highest amount of the new notes I've owned at once was 2K (what can that buy). Since then, I never take eye see Emefiele and Buhari new money! We've had to put some building projects on hold because no money to pay workmen who claimed they don't use bank accounts.

Petty traders on the streets whose businesses are mostly cash-based and low volume, have few reasons to operate bank accounts unless they don't mind charges eating into their minimal profits.

I can't imagine a country wanting to implement a policy so bad that they are completely unprepared and immatured for like Nigeria has just done. I remembered that low-budget CBN governor, talking one time about how difficult it is to see 50 pounds or 100 dollar bills in the hands of citizen in those country, while Nigerians have no problem carrying 1000 naira denominations. How many people would ordinarily walk around with 70K naira in their pockets? Because that's what's actually 100 dollars in real value. It's foolhardy to think creating scarcity of hard cash would give the same dynamic that exist in the UK and US - different factors are at play here.

According to news I'm hearing around my locality, a 'smart' Nigerian has made himself a fortune by selling new 'money'. Can you imagine that?

Wetin dey shock me in all this is how the FG and CBN is still insisting on going ahead with what's not working

Dem no wan dey flexible at all concerning this issue

Even if dem no go release old ₦1000 notes, make dem release ₦500 and ₦200.

The most funny thing about all this is the Edo State Government supporting the CBN and FG on this issue at the Supreme Court, people they protest massively in this same Edo State right now, 3 people have been shot dead because of this policy their Governor is supporting.

Also for me, the main thing I can't wrap my head around. I read the CBN admitting facing unprecedented challenges, including printing paper scarcity, to then see them fighting the supreme court's order is beyond me.

Nobody want to be the prophet of doom but I saw this coming - vandalizing banks and pushback from police. Regrettably lives have already been lost. Those blood is on the hands of Buhari and the CBN's Governor for not having the balls to either suspend the hard deadline or honourably resign from that position.

The only reason things are not worse is because in most places like mine, people are still transacting with old notes with hesitation.

The Edo and Bayelsa State Government joining the suit against the FG should tell all 'wise' Nigerians that politicians are taking the side that is favourable to their ambition. They don't really care about our suffering or opinions. Tinubu, Atiku and Obi have all taken sides, and it's not hard to decipher how their position about the current monetary policy may come to favour them in the election.

If this is the best mechanism folks at CBN and FG can come up with to combat vote buying, I don't know who's more stupid - they or the people supporting them. Come February, all 3-4 major candidates will buy votes and we'll hear those reports on nairaland.

Even the World Bank don warn Nigeria government about this policy

People who reflect, people who read the room always knew it will come to this. If you look at the amount of old to new bank notes, it's like 98 to 1. It's utterly inconceivable that the country can function at this moment without people transacting with the old notes.

It is only a hapless fool that will insist on the February 10 deadline like the CBN has done, and a stupid idiot that will tell the people to endure the hardship. This is just absolute madness by the FG and CBN.

All the fuckiing major political parties like Labour, APC, and PDP will still buy votes come February 25. They'll do anything to win. Buying vote is not the most worse things they could do to gain an advantage.

Hehe. My old boy they enter Auchi come find old notes, him no gree see. Me self, na 2K remain. I go enter places tonight to withdraw old or new notes. Yet to see one single person reject the old notes from me or any other person.

Business people want to make their daily money, rejecting the only available money (old notes) is same as closing shop for now... And no business person wants that!
Politics / Re: We Will Start Accepting Old Notes, Kano Supermarket Tells Ganduje by jelel6: 2:38pm On Feb 13, 2023
Agadinaagwuofe:

The simple explanation is the owner of the shop is a victim like everyone else. His bank informed him they were not going to collect old notes from him and he decided to make amends to avoid him incurring a lot of losses. So if the Governor is fair he should have directed his force and hammer on the causative agent and not citizens reacting to adaptive features. Again Emefiele isn't the cause, Buhari action shows he is the one that approves and orchestrated the policy and Emefiele is only obeying his boss, I mean Buhari can sack Emefiele or reverse the whole policy if he feels Emefiele advised him wrongly or pushed out unfavourable policy but you know what is happening? Buhari is in court to defend it. The policy has it's merits and demerits and even though the implementation failed , it is only political stooges that plays ostrich will keep calling out Emefiele when they know he is only surbodinate to his Boss.

I agree the supermarket is a victim like most private entities, so they are expected to take measures to protect their interest. However, rejecting the Naira at this moment under the excuse of CBN directive is naive, especially when you are big enough that word will get out to local authorities in a state with vested interest.

Yes, it's certain that Buhari's government is behind the policy. But the CBN knows its own capacity and the challenges they are facing, does it look like they are advising the FG to extend the deadline to allow them phase out the old notes effectively? No. They are very much behaving like it's Feb 10 or Feb 15 and nothing else. Despite the reality on ground.

It was always ambitious for our government to think they can phase out old notes in less than 6 months. I have nothing against the policy - but it hurts the common people even more than the politicians they are targeting.

That your statement actually suggests you are complimenting the appearance of a 13 year old girl in a sexual context. Many people will find that creepy, keep your opinion to yourself.

I feel sorry for the man. To be spoken of like this without reason and looked at as a sexual predator without cause must be soul-killing. Perhaps, that's the peck of being a husband to mother of the year.

Some father over protect their children.
Last month I was in a garden I met a man and two other teenagers seated in the same garden. When the teenagers left, I approached the man who should be around 50years old.

Me : good morning sir. Please those teens are they your children or siblings

The man : why do you ask ?

Me: I like the girl . She is beautiful.

The man : my daughter? I'll call for your arrest right now. And I mean it.

Me : ah! What for ? I only asked a harmless question.

The man : she is just 13, and about to go to school. If anything happen to her.
He brought out his phone and was trying to call for my arrest

Me: hmmm! You just told me she is 13 , if I had insisted that I like her after that then I think you have the right to call for my arrest.

He then walked to my colleague to report me. And they told him there's nothing wrong with what I did.. I only asked a question.

The man: oh! You are all the same . Am a pastor, I just finished 40days fasting , I could have just cursed you the moment you turn after asking me the question.

Please de 0!

Actually, it's people like you that the lady is unfairly grouping with every other man out there.

What in the God's name would make you approach a total stranger and start complimenting his 13 year old daughter's physical (beauty) features? How can that be the topic of discussion you would want to have with a 50 year old father? Something is very wrong with you.

For your sake, quit that odd approach of randomly talking about little girl's appearance because it can easily get misconstrued.

(Me to go even report you to your colleagues because I don't expect them to be any bright than you)
