Politics / Emir Of Kano Reveals How $12.5bn Disappeared Under GEJ by jerrex(m): 4:31pm On May 15, 2015
The Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, has revealed that under President Goodluck Jonathan’s rule more than half a billion dollars in oil revenues were disappearing every month in unknown direction.

Thus, up to $40 billion could have been diverted from the treasury during Jonathan’s five year rule.

Reacting to the results of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation’s (NNPS) audit conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers, Sanusi said: “You can suspend a man, but you cannot suspend the truth”.

In his article in the Financial Times titled “Unanswered questions on Nigeria’s missing oil revenue billions” the Emir reiterated that he was fired by Jonathan from the post of the head of Central Bank of Nigeria for exactly the same thing PricewaterhouseCoopers specialists did, questioning where around $20 billion in oil revenues had gone instead of the national treasury.

Sanusi stated in his article that it raises serious questions that should be addressed to the outgoing government officials of highest level including Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke.

He added that Diezani doesn’t have anything to say in her defense. In case these officials are guilty of embezzlement they must be charged, insists Sanusi, claiming that “Nigerians did not vote for an amnesty for anyone”.

“Contrary to the claims of petroleum minister Diezani Alison-Madueke, the audit report doesn’t exonerate the NNPC, it [PwC audit report] establishes that the gap between the company’s oil revenues between January 2012 and July 2013 and cash remitted to the government for the same period was $18.5bn.”

The Emir also revealed one of the embezzlement schemes which made it possible to divert several billion dollars in the unknown direction.

The so-called kerosene subsidy scam included $3.4 billion withheld by NNPC to pay for subsidies on kerosene to bring it to a price of 50 naira per litre. But common Nigerians have never seen any effect to that, having to pay up to 140 naira a litre, because this subsidy on kerosene simply didn’t exist in the 2012 and 2013 budgets.

The other way of diverting money from national treasure was through the NNPC’s subsidiary company, Nigerian Petroleum Development Company which paid only $ 100 million for oil assets worth at least $6.8bn.

“It was extracting crude worth billions of dollars but yielding very little revenue for the treasury”, said Sanusi, claiming also that “of the $18.5bn in revenues [for 19 months] that the state oil company [NNPC] did not send to the government, about $12.5bn appears by my calculations to have been diverted”.

Thus, at least $0.65 billion were diverted monthly. Hence, it is easy to calculate that up to $40 billion could have been diverted during the outgoing president’s five-year term, if that trend was continuous throughout his rule.

Earlier Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) had spoken exclusively to Al Jazeera following his sacking by Goodluck Jonathan.

“I’m not afraid [to be jailed]… the only way this country will change is if people stop being intimidated by the state,” he said.

Sanusi, who was suspended by President Jonathan over allegations of misconduct, has rejected the claims against him, insisting he was removed for highlighting alleged widespread corruption in the oil and gas sector.

Politics / Battle For Lagos: Jimi or Ambode.... Got this online by jerrex(m): 12:23am On Apr 09, 2015
Battle For Lagos:

Brilliant comment!

Onyebuchi Ememanka writes ~
What is the principal interest of the Igbos in
Lagos? What do we seek to achieve in our
sojourn here? My take is simple. We seek a
prosperous Lagos that is economically viable,
peaceful....a mini Nigeria of sorts where all
people are able to live and pursue their
livelihood without let or hinderance.

As a people that thrive on commerce, Igbos
want a Lagos where there are government
policies that promote the growth of commerce
and business.
A Lagos where government builds roads,
bridges, hospitals and is generally alive to their
duties.
Education is free in Lagos and our children
enjoy this.
No Igbo child has been sent away from any
public school in Lagos. Lagos state government
pays WAEC and NECO fees for all students in
Lagos....our children enjoy this too.

What do we really want in Lagos? The truth is
that we are strangers here. Lagos belongs to
some people, just like Onitsha and Aba. Let's
not carry on as if this place is a no man's land.
It is not!

All of a sudden, Jimi Agbaje has become an
Igboman....we have adopted him as our
son.....the same way we adopted
President Jonathan in the last election against
our strategic interest as a people...a decision
that has left us in serious political confusion
and our senators begging to be admitted into
the APC.

What is the difference between Jimi Agbaje and
Akinwumi Ambode? Is any of them Igbo? What
is our problem? I believe that we have a fair
share here. We live in peace unlike our people
in the North. I don't think there are more
Igbos in Lagos than there are in Kano, yet we
live peacefully here.

Yorubas are highly politically sophisticated
people and they understand that it is better
for them to have a government in Lagos that
belongs to the same party as the party at the
centre. Igbos cannot love Lagos more than
Yorubas. This is their land. If anything happens
here now, we will all leave and return home.
These people own here...this is their home and
we must respect their feelings. Every person
living in Lagos wants more federal presence in
Lagos. We want a 4th mainland bridge, we
want so many other things that the federal
government can do.

In the years past, Lagos hasn't enjoyed much
federal intervention because of political party
differences. Now they have that chance and we
want to spoil it for them by being more
catholic than the pope.

Let everybody vote any candidate he wants but
I reject any collective Igbo move to vote
against the strategic interests of the people
who own the land where we live and make our
living. Lagos has been good to our people. We
have succeeded here in business and the
professions.

Let's not disrespect the people of Lagos. I will
not support any move that will create an
impression that Igbos are against the interest
of the owners of Lagos. Nobody has murdered
our people here like what we see in the north.
Lagos remains the only state in this country
where Igbos hold top government positions.
Even our neighbors and brothers, Rivers State
have never given us that privilege despite our
huge population and presence there.
As for me, I want Lagos to progress and on
Saturday, I will proudly vote for Akinwumi
Ambode.
