Politics / National Assembly Stinks, Says Ex-panel Chair Jibrin by jessey22: 1:50am On Aug 01, 2016 |
Sacked House of Representatives Appropriations Committee chairman Abdulmumin Jibrin last night spoke of what he called “institutional corruption” at the National Assembly. He claimed that those behind the “massive corruption” frustrated his efforts to prevent the padding of Budget 2016. Jibrin was sacked for allegedly padding the budget. He denied the allegation, claiming that Speaker Yakubu Dogara, Deputy Speaker Yusuff Lasun, Chief Whip Alhassan Ado Doguwa and Minority Leader Leo Ogor wanted to use him to achieve their own ends. Jibrin, who accused Dogara, Lasun, Doguwa and Ogor of being behind the padding, alleged that 10 chairmen inserted 2,000 fictitious projects worth N248 billion into the budget. Read More

Politics / Turkey’s Request To Close 17 Schools In Nigeria by jessey22: 9:43am On Jul 30, 2016 |
The Nigerian Turkish International Colleges have described the call by the Turkish Ambassador to Nigeria, Hakan Cakil, for the closure of 17 ‘Turkish’ schools in Nigeria as “a spurious request.” In a statement issued on the school’s website Friday, the institution called on the public to ignore Mr. Cakil. “But for the fact that the statement contained misleading information, we would not have dignified it with a response,” the school said in the statement signed by Orhan Kertim, the Managing Director. “But as law-abiding schools operating in Nigeria since 1998, we owe Nigerians a duty to expose the ulterior motives of the Turkish Ambassador in the said statement.” Read More

Politics / Lawmakers Have Gone Mad Again by jessey22: 8:56am On Jul 30, 2016 |
To admit it right away, I deserve no credit for the above headline. It is simply an adaptation of the title of Ola Rotimi’s hilarious play wherein a soldier named Lejoka-Brown took three wives. The first he married while fighting in the Congo, the second he inherited from his late elder brother in a strange but enduring African tradition while the third was an America returnee and daughter of an influential market woman he married because he was contesting for an elective office. Politics / Governor Obiano Of Anambra Lied About $5 Million Vegetable Exports by jessey22: 11:00pm On Jul 28, 2016 |
An investigation by SaharaReporters suggests that Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State orchestrated a false and misleading campaign when he recently asserted that his state had earned $5 million by exporting vegetables. Speaking recently in Abuja, Mr. Obiano said his government had boosted agricultural exports and was selling millions worth of vegetables, mostly to Europe. Reports also said that these exports earnings are from pumpkin leaves and bitter leaves. SaharaReporters has found that, as part of Mr. Obiano’s campaign, he used images allegedly from Anambra farms depicting luscious produce, including red tomatoes. Politics / Tim Kaine Boycotted Netanyahu Speech, Backed Iran Deal by jessey22: 2:53pm On Jul 24, 2016 |
Democrats are touting Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA), Hillary Clinton’s new running mate, as a pro-Israel voice in Congress. The left-wing Forward ran a tribute exulting: “5 Reasons Tim Kaine Will Be the Jewiest Vice President Pick for Hillary Clinton.” Yet Kaine joined anti-Israel radicals in Congress in boycotting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech in March 2015 — the last plea of a beleaguered nation against an agreement that Iran is already violating with ballistic missile tests. At the time, Kaine dismissed Netanyahu’s speech as purely an attempt to influence the upcoming Israel elections — on which the speech had virtually no effect — and complained that Republicans were trying to make support for Israel a partisan issue. Bloomberg News at the time predicted that Kaine’s decision to boycott the speech “could resonate for years,” Read More |

Donald J. Trump, until now a Republican problem, this week became a challenge the nation must confront and overcome. The real estate tycoon is uniquely unqualified to serve as president, in experience and temperament. He is mounting a campaign of snarl and sneer, not substance. To the extent he has views, they are wrong in their diagnosis of America’s problems and dangerous in their proposed solutions. Mr. Trump’s politics of denigration and division could strain the bonds that have held a diverse nation together. His contempt for constitutional norms might reveal the nation’s two-century-old experiment in checks and balances to be more fragile than we knew […][/color] see video |
