Leader of the Civilian Joint Task Force in Borno state, Bah Lawan has been arrested by the Nigerian military over his alleged link with the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram. Lawan was arrested following revelations by some top politicians associated with the Borno state government, who had earlier been arrested and are undergoing interrogation by of the theatre commander, operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Lucky Irabor. According to reports, the highly influential CJTF leader was once arrested by the military over same allegation but promptly released at the instance of the Borno state Commissioner for Justice, Kaka Shehu Lawan. Since his arrest early this week, there has been more revelations on top Borno politicians suspected to be having related activities with the dreaded Islamic sect operating in Borno and the northeastern state generally. Reports said the arrested CJTF leader, has more than 20 houses in Maiduguri, an edifice in Nigeria’s capital Abuja as well as vast farmland along Pompomari Ward, housing and over 500 cows. A source who volunteered information on the arrested CJTF leader said,” We also found in his house N500 million Naira. And this is a man that before his appointment as leader of the civilian JTF barely feed his family and within a period has made so much money at the instance of innocent victims of the ungodly act of insurgency.” Following the arrest of six top Borno politician including a member of the National Assembly, Hon. Kadiri Rahis over alleged link with Boko Haram, Borno state governor Kashim Shettima in a state broadcast said, even if one of his sons was found to have any link with Boko Haram, he should be arrested. |
