Maybe I really don’t get what you’re arguing about because my post clearly allude to the fact that petrol should be cheaper when refined locally than when imported.

Your initially argument was that there will be no subsidy once we refine petrol locally and I corrected that impression that subsidy is not a function of local refining or importation but a direct result of price fixing by government.

If Dangote for example refines locally at a cost plus profit of N300 per liter and government fixed the price at N195, there will still be a subsidy element of N105 that government will have to bear to sustain the fixed price.

It is also not true that removal of subsidy started in 2012. We’ve been talking about removal of subsidy since the IBB administration. All the price increment under Obasanjo was about a gradual removal of subsidy. Jonathan only attempted to remove everything at once in 2012. So, it is nothing new truly but it dates far beyond 2012.

Using your own analogy, if Government is fixing price at N195, and paying subsidy on Dangote's N300, the subsidy paid will still be cheaper than subsidising N530 to N195.
My point is we MUST develop local refining capacity in order to reduce waste of resources on refining abroad, resources that can be used for develppment of so many other sectors
And on the subsidy issue, I said "came to public light in January 2012", because that was when the whole Country knew what exactly subsidy was about. Of course, it had been an issue long before then.

I projected the price to be around N400 if we are to refine locally as against the N530 national average.

Let’s assume I’m wrong, how much do you think petrol will sell for if we refine locally? N195, right?

Price of PMS is not what I can 'think' up, there's a pricing template that is used to compute it. But one thing I'm sure of is that the price per litre of PMS when refined locally will be way cheaper than when refined abroad.
The major consideration when refined locally is the global price per barrel of crude oil. That is why price should go up when crude oil price goes up globally. However with this increase in crude oil price, we as a producing nation should be smiling to the bank if we refine our crude locally, but the reverse is the case in Nigeria.
We should ask questions why huge sums of money have been spent on Turn-Around Maintenance of our moribund refineries for so many years now without anything to show for it.
Removal of PMS subsidy isn't an issue of today. This issue came into public light in January 2012 when there was the popular Occupy Nigeria protest, but what has been done in the past 11 years since then to ease the burden on the citizens when it is finally removed? Absolutely NOTHING! Nigeria as a country couldn't revive her moribund refineries or construct even 1 new one since 2012? That's a huge failure of our leadership!

The part in bold is wrong. Very wrong. Government is not paying subsidy because we import petrol. Government pay subsidy because Nigerians don’t want to buy petrol at market determined price. We want to buy petrol at a price regulated below the cost of production and profit margin of petrol importers and refiners. Let’s understand this and not confuse each other, please.

Actually you are wrong. From your comments on this thread, you keep on arguing that even if our refineries are functioning optimally, we will still be paying almost the same price per litre for PMS as we are paying now. That reasoning is shocking, to say the least.
Do you know the indices that make up the pricing of PMS?
Do you know the huge price differential when you factor in forex for exportation of crude, refining in another Country and then importing PMS to Nigeria, as against simply supplying the crude oil to refineries within the Country, refining it and then distributing the product around the Country?
The prices can NEVER be the same, or even almost the same. Even if you don't understand the economics involved, simple logic should be enough for some level of understanding.
Also, what do you understand by 'market forces' you keep on saying? Do you realize that FOREX is a major market force? And it applies to Nigeria in this case simply because we export our crude to be refined outside? Now imagine the price regime if FOREX isn't a factor!
Pls don't post false information here, it's very misleading for those who may come here to get info

Politics / Buhari Assents To Executive Order 11 On Maintenance Of Public Buildings by Jiggyronnie: 10:51pm On Apr 06, 2022
President Muhammadu Buhari has assented to Executive Order 11 on National Public Buildings Maintenance.

The signing of the document preceded the weekly Federal Executive Council held on Wednesday at the Council Chambers of the State House in Abuja.

In his remarks shortly before appending his signature, President Buhari directed all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) of government to set up maintenance departments, in line with the provisions of the new Executive Order.

[b]REMARKS BY HIS EXCELLENCY, MUHAMMADU BUHARI PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA AT THE SIGNING OF EXECUTIVE ORDER ON NATIONAL PUBLIC BUILDING MAINTENANCE POLICY, WEDNESDAY 6TH APRIL, 2022

PROTOCOLS:

"On the 4th day of January 2019, the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing presented a Policy Memorandum to the Federal Executive Council seeking for the approval of a Draft National Public Building Maintenance Policy which was granted.

"The Policy set out guidelines for the maintenance of Federal Government Buildings and Assets in accordance with professional standards in order to ensure the protection and lasting utilization of the investments that have been made by way of provision of public infrastructure.

"The memorandum recommended and Government accepted that maintenance of public buildings and facility management was not a matter of culture or lack of it, but a conscious economic driver that was required to support the output from our technical and vocational educational institutions by putting their skills into gainful and rewarding engagement.

"The memorandum highlighted Federal Public Institutions such as Federal Government Colleges, Federal Correctional Facilities, Federal Court Buildings and Federal secretariats where maintenance and facility management were immediately required and recommended that these should be extended to ALL buildings owned and or occupied by Ministries, Departments, and Agencies of the Federal Government.

"Some of the expected benefits of the implementation of the approved National Policy on Public Building Maintenance are job creation for skilled and unskilled labour and the expansion of opportunities for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises that produce and supply all of the tools and materials required to support maintenance.

"Since the approval of the Policy by the Federal Executive Council, the Federal Government has consciously started the implementation of Maintenance in Strategic Facilities like the Federal Secretariats in Abuja, Federal Secretariats in 24 States of the Federation, where at least 40 people are now daily employed in each of those 24 Secretariats in post-rehabilitation maintenance and facility management.

"The Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation has approved the Establishment of a Department of Federal Public Assets Maintenance as a vital step in support of the implementation of this National Policy, which is unprecedented in our history and approach to maintenance.

"In order to ensure the fullest implementation and impact of the Policy, it is my pleasure to sign this Executive Order that ties maintenance directly to our economy.

"By this Order I expect Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to set up and ensure the operation of their Maintenance Departments and make necessary procurement for their maintenance, in accordance with the provision of the Public Procurement Act.  I commend this National Policy for the consideration of the State and Local Governments and indeed the Private Sector.

"Maintenance of Assets is more than a culture, it is an economy from which many can prosper and we must nurture and water that economy by policy and actions that create opportunities and inclusion for our people.

"While it is true that our economy has been diversified and the non-oil sector is leading in terms of contribution to the Gross Domestic Product, the maintenance and facility management component of the services sector is an opportunity that is waiting to be maximized.

"It is my hope that this Order will open the door to this treasure of opportunities for young Technicians, for Artisans, for Vendors and Suppliers and for Small Businesses and Cottage Industries.

"Thank you and God Bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria."

Finally, one gone, more to go....hopefully...
Sports / Manchester United: Anthony Martial Completes Loan Move To Sevilla by Jiggyronnie: 12:19am On Jan 26, 2022
Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has joined Sevilla FC on loan for the remainder of the 2021/22 season.

The Frenchman completed a medical in Andalusia, after the two clubs agreed terms for his temporary transfer.

Martial has made 269 appearances for United, scoring 79 goals, since joining the club from AS Monaco in the summer of 2015. He has helped the club to win the FA Cup, the League Cup and the UEFA Europa League.

The 26-year-old featured as recently as Saturday's 1-0 win over West Ham United, when he was a late substitute and involved in the move which led to Marcus Rashford's injury-time winner.

However, Martial has been open about his desire to seek more regular first-team football, and will now hope to find that with the Rojiblancos, who currently lie second in La Liga.

After the West Ham win, interim manager Ralf Rangnick praised the Frenchman for his professionalism, saying: "I know that he is a top player – one of the best strikers in the Premier League – but we have other players in his position.
"It is his wish to leave but, like I said to him, it always takes different parts to find an agreement. The way that he trained and played when he came on [against West Ham], he showed his professionalism that I expect from everybody."

Martial, who will wear Sevilla's no.22 shirt, will become the second United player to appear in Spain's top flight this season. Our young Uruguayan winger Facundo Pellistri has featured in 17 league games so far for his loan club, Alaves.

Everyone at United wishes Anthony the best of luck for his time at Sevilla.

You know it takes a world class Manager to instill discipline in some of these 'big name' players... Fergie-Beckham row comes to mind. Same thing happened with Rooney, he benched him for the 2nd leg of Utd-Real Madrid match that year.
I just hope Utd invests in a world class Manager on a permanent basis after Ralf.
I don't see Utd making top four this season, so we need a world class Manager to attract big names to Utd next season without the attraction of Champs League.
And I mean a Manager who has a pedigree of winning trophies every season, and with an attacking style of play
N2B2:
First order of business: offload the 17 overpaid crybaby players in the club, who told the media they're unhappy and want Ralf Rangnick gone.

Take a cue from Chelsea; see how quickly they humbled Lukaku. The same Lukaku who, while still under contract at Man Utd, left England for Italy in the middle of the season.

It's about time the club takes a firm stand & set its players straight: "If you don't like it here, GET OUT!"

Ole is a useless coach; he had no tactics and groveled to the players, further spoiling them.

Ralf, on the other hand, hasn't been able to implement his playstyle because the players aren't willing to change, the useless lot.

Manchester United can confirm that our Premier League fixture at Brentford FC, on Tuesday 14 December at 19:30, has been postponed and will be rescheduled in due course.

Following PCR confirmation of positive LFT Covid-19 tests among the first-team staff and players, the outbreak requires ongoing surveillance. A decision was taken to close first-team operations at the Carrington Training Complex for 24 hours to help minimise risk of further infection, and individuals who tested positive are isolating in line with Premier League protocols.

Given cancellation of training and disruption to the squad, and with the health of players and staff the priority, the Club requested the match to be rearranged. The Premier League Board took the decision to postpone based on guidance from medical advisors.

Manchester United regrets the inconvenience caused to Brentford FC and to the fans of both clubs by Covid-19.

Ole will always be a legend at Manchester United and it is with regret that we have reached this difficult decision. While the past few weeks have been disappointing, they should not obscure all the work he has done over the past three years to rebuild the foundations for long-term success.

Ole leaves with our sincerest thanks for his tireless efforts as Manager and our very best wishes for the future. His place in the club’s history will always be secure, not just for his story as a player, but as a great man and a Manager who gave us many great moments. He will forever be welcome back at Old Trafford as part of the Manchester United family.

Michael Carrick will now take charge of the team for forthcoming games, while the club looks to appoint an interim manager to the end of the season.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Confirmed: Ronaldo's Shirt Number At Manchester United by Jiggyronnie: 8:53pm On Sep 02, 2021
Manchester United can confirm that Cristiano Ronaldo will wear the iconic no.7 shirt after returning to Old Trafford.

The Portuguese superstar famously wore the legendary shirt number during his first spell at United and we can now confirm that Ronaldo will have it on his back once again.

In his first six seasons at the club, between 2003 and 2009, Ronaldo made 292 appearances and scored 118 goals, winning nine trophies including three Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League.

As we all know, the no. 7 is a special number in the history of United.

It has previously been worn by club icons like George Best, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona and David Beckham. Now, it returns to the man who succeeded Beckham in it, Ronaldo.

Ronaldo inherits the number from Edinson Cavani, who wore the shirt last season and in our away win at Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend.

As our new signing is allocated no.7, El Matador will switch to no.21, the same number our prolific striker wears for the Uruguayan national team.

United’s first fixture after the international break, in which Ronaldo could make his return to Old Trafford, is at home to Newcastle United on Saturday 11 September.

We are all excited to see our returning no. 7 in action at the Theatre of Dreams once again.

Ronaldo no.7 shirts can now be ordered online from United Direct.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: Manchester United Withdraw From European Super League by Jiggyronnie: 11:40pm On Apr 20, 2021
Manchester United has today announced that executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward will step down from his role at the end of 2021.

Woodward joined United in 2005 and became executive vice-chairman in 2012.

Ed Woodward said:

“I am extremely proud to have served United and it has been an honour to work for the world’s greatest football club for the past 16 years.

“The club is well positioned for the future and it will be difficult to walk away at the end of the year.

“I will treasure the memories from my time at Old Trafford, during a period when we won the Europa League, the FA Cup and the EFL Cup. I am proud of the regeneration of the club’s culture and our return to the Manchester United way of playing.

“We have invested more than £1bn in the squad during my time here and I am particularly delighted with the progress the players have made under the astute leadership of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his coaching team in the last two years.

“I am sure that with the changes we have made on-field and to the coaching and football staff in recent years this great club will soon be lifting silverware again. It deserves to.

“I desperately wanted the club to win the Premier League during my tenure and I am certain the foundations are in place for us to win it back for our passionate fans.

“Our world-famous academy is flourishing again, with 34 players progressing into the first team since 2013, and it has been a pleasure to watch talents such as Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Axel Tuanzebe flourish in the first team environment. In the years to come the club’s production line of young talent will continue to push established first team players for their places. That competition bodes well for the future.

“We have also established Manchester United Women and their progress is further evidence of the demand for success at this great club.

“The last 16 months have brought so many unique challenges and the club's work in the community and around the world during the Covid-19 pandemic has been heroic.

“The financial impact on football clubs has been severe, but United have been one of the most robust and resilient in the face of extraordinary financial pressures.

“I would like to thank United’s passionate fans for their support during the good and bad times. I know this has been a challenging period in our history, but your support for the team has never, ever been in doubt.

“Finally, it has been a pleasure to work with so many magnificent, talented and hard-working people.”

Co-chairman Joel Glazer added:

“Ed Woodward has served the club with great distinction. On behalf of everyone at United I would like to place on record our sincere thanks for his tireless work and dedication.

“His contribution to the club has been massive, and he will always be welcome at Old Trafford as a part of the Manchester United family.”

nas00:

From the symptoms you described, your car's a/c compressor is about to give up. Most likely, if nothing is done, it will stop the intermittent cooling altogether anytime soon. I know this because a friend's 2007 Accord behaved exactly the same way recently.

There are 2 options:

1) You could have an experienced a/c technician remove the compressor and examine. The compressor clutch or armature could be partially burnt, and these could be replaced.

2) Change the compressor altogether.

My advice is to do 1, as the compressor may still serve you for years before warranting an outright replacement.

*Note: The recent alternator change is likely a coincidence.

Thanks so much boss! It's advice like dis dat keeps this thread relevant! Will do as u've advised.
Car Talk / Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by Jiggyronnie: 9:14pm On Feb 07, 2015
Gud day all. I'm having a nagging prob with my car, plz I'll like input on possible solutions from d gurus here. It's a long read, bt I just want to explain in detail as much as I can.

I drive a 4-cyl honda accord (2005). Few weeks ago, I observed dat d ac suddenly trips off while in use, and kicks back on again after a little while. Note dat dis isn't d usual intermittent tripping off due to d thermostat, cos when it trips off, d car actually feels hot b4 it finally comes on again (just d fan blows), which means it stays off longer dan usual.

Also, when I turn on d ac sometimes, d compressor vibrates a lot while trying to come on. Also, when d ac trips off in motion, b4 it finally picks up again, d compressor will vibrate abnormally a few times, like it is havin some difficulty coming on, b4 it finally starts coolin again. I noticed dat when it's vibrating and tryin to come on, d rpm drops to about 0.5 or just a little above. Initially I thot d engine was too low to carry d compressor so d 'idle' of d engine was raised a little, still it didn't solve d problem.

A scan of d car showed d following results P2185, P0141. I've taken d car to supposed experienced hands, yet no solution. D ac mechanics always tell me dat d ac system is ok, and d mechanics say my engine 'idle' level is ok too.

Plz I need help here, d heat these days is terrible and it's very annoying when d ac trips off like dat. Note dat dis happens both when I'm on d expressway (@ over 100km/h) and when I'm stationary. I've used d car for over 2 years, bt dis problem startd over 1 month ago.

I startd experiencing dis problem after I changed my alternator few weeks ago (don't knw if it has anything to do with it).

Thanks a lot. Hope to get a solution here.

Can't be really Jesus, there's no record of any description of his looks while on earth. If any d bible even said he was 'not comely to behold' so I believe he wasn't d way artists/movie producers have made him out to look.
