The 2022 Commonwealth Games, authoritatively known as the XXII Commonwealth Games and normally known as Birmingham 2022, is a global multi sport occasion for individuals from the Commonwealth that is booked to be held in Birmingham, England from 28 July to 8 August 2022. Birmingham was reported as host on 21 December 2017, denoting England's third time facilitating the Games behind Manchester 2002 and London 1934. The Games were initially granted to Durban, South Africa, which pulled out in 2017 because of monetary issues. Two urban areas at first sent off offers for the games Durban, Boxing 2022 Commonwealth Games coverage South Africa and Edmonton, Canada. Edmonton pulled out its offered in February 2015, passing on Durban as the main bid to go ahead to CGF General Assembly in September 2015. Durban at first tied down the option to have the games, as they were the sole bidder for the occasion. The games were set to open on 18 July 2022, agreeing with the birthday of the late South African President, Nelson Mandela. It was accounted for in February 2017 that Durban may not be able to have the games because of monetary limitations. This was affirmed one month after the fact on 13 March 2017 when the CGF stripped Durban of their freedoms to have the Games.
