agaugust:I will say it again!! We received 44 tanks in 1991, it was the first batch we received, Production carried n throughout the 90s. Secondly the SANDF owns 266 Tanks P.S it doesnt mean we have all 266 in service, some are obviously in storage: "The SA Army currently owns up to 266 of the tanks in five variants: the Mk2, Mk1B and Mk1A MBT in addition to about 16 armoured recovery vehicles (ARV) and two armoured bridgelayers (ABL)." http://www.defenceweb.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=18165 |

Henry120:You do know the Gripen C stall speed is about 170 km/h and the Hawk stall speed is about 180 km/h, both of which are about 20-30km/h higher than compared to one of the most Modern COIN/CAS aircraft the Super Tucano, 20km/h is not much if you ask me. So yes i think a Gripen and Hawk would do decently in COIN warfare compared to other prop propelled CAS aircraft. 1 Like |

Foreign Affairs / Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by jl115again: 3:27pm On Apr 30, 2015 |
agaugust:Uhm.....Go read your source again!! it states that The Czechs sold 58 Tanks to the Excalibur Group, not to Nigeria, provide a source were it states Nigeria bought all 58 Tanks from the excalibur group. And BTW @Patches689 was being conservative with hes views, he was simply implying that even if Nigeria bought all 58 Tanks(Which Nigeria havnt) from the Excalibur Group its still less than our over 150 MK2 and MK1Bs. |
Foreign Affairs / Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by jl115again: 3:06pm On Apr 30, 2015 |
agaugust:Nope you are receiving less than 16 T72s from the Czechs! |

Foreign Affairs / Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by jl115again: 2:38pm On Apr 30, 2015 |
agaugust:Uhm.... did we say we dont have MK1As ? We said we produced over 170 MK1Bs, that doesnt mean we have 170 MK1Bs in service, as i also said before 26 MK1Bs were upgraded to MK2 standard, and some MK1B were scrapped for spares, as i also also said before we have a handful of MK1A used for Training and demonstration, and we even blow some up time to time just for fun: Pic 2 Rooivalk firing at MK1A. "Development work on the Olifant Mk 1B commenced in 1983, with the first prototype being completed in 1985. Following trials with prototype vehicles by the South African Armoured Corps, the first production Olifant Mk 1B vehicles were completed in early 1991. It is believed that the first production batch of Olifant Mk 1B amounted to just under 50 vehicles. This upgrade programme has now been completed." http://www.army-guide.com/eng/product894.html We received just under 50 MK1Bs in 1991, Production of the MK1B continued into the mid 90's.

agaugust:"Your source says 224 Olifant MK 1 B tanks were produced, defenceweb says only 177 units of Olifant Mk 1 A and 1 B are in service as at 2013." Again!! Just because we produced More than 170 MK1Bs doesnt mean all are in service!! 26 have been upgraded to MK2 standard some were scraped ect ect UNDERSTAND? "172 units of Olifant Mk 1B tanks with basic ordinary steel armour RHA of world war I" MK2s and MK1Bs are almost identical externally, the only difference is the added optics(That big box with the camera) on the MK2, They have the same armor. patches689:Sh1t? How so? It has better range than the Mbombe. Higher ground clearance. Faster than the Mbombe. Carries more troops. And both have the same ballistics protection. 1 Like |

Denel finishes acquisition of BAE Systems Land Systems South Africa http://www.defenceweb.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=38966 This could potentially be geat news for Project Sepula: Denel now owns the RG35 which i think would be the best option for project Sepula, then they also have the RG41 which can fulfill any future requirement the SANDF might have: 1 Like
